Great that you addressed the reactivity on the leash. I never truly understood that, until now. Seems like my dog knows leash pressure but doesn’t care when she sees another dog. The curiosity is stronger.
This just happened to me yesterday! Thanks to listening to Robert's recommendation, I didn't lose Hansel (my 70 pound German Shepherd) He broke free of one collar but I had the back up collar on him. Thank you Robert!!!❤🐶
Thank you for the great explanation on leash reaction my 2 yr old is so good at obedience we have worked hard but can't get to grips with this I never allow her to get in to trouble but sometimes it just happens so I understand this better merry Christmas
Thank You Robert! I wish all dog owners watched your videos! I walked dogs off leash on a hike. A guy with a small dog, who is leash aggressive stopped and pulled the leash so tight that nearly hanged the poor dog. And then people wonder about leash aggression 🤦♀️🤪
Hello Robert: My 15 month old GSD is about 80 lbs & has a dominant nature. when I train and on our walks I use a "choke" chain and it works fine most of the time but when he's excited he doesn't respond to leash pressure very well so I want to try the pinch collar. I have never used one before but I have watched your instructional videos. You recommend the small size and I'm all for it but the specs on the collar limit its use to dogs under 66 lbs. Would you still recommend the small size for my 80+ lb dog? I always use a second safety collar attached to the leash so pinch collar breakage is a concern only in the sense that I will need to buy another or that it doesn't work on my dog.
🐕 Hi Robert & thanks for all the excellent training tips. I have a quick question about the Barking while on a leash & the flight or flight response. I've been working on that with my 2yr Ranger while on our walks & was doing almost the same thing you suggested, but putting him in a sit. FYI the dogs/ppl he usually will bark at start on the same side of the street as us but they see a 90lb GSD, then pick up their little dog & run across the street, which I think makes Ranger uncomfortable since they are running away from him? Thanks, also I found you through That Enzo and Lotus 🐕🖤🐶🤎
Hello Robert, I have two GSDs. A male (10 months old) and a female (7 months old). They both listen well when we’re 1 on 1 but when I bring the both of them together it’s all hell break loose. They can play fight all day in a kind of dominant way. And when toys are brought into the equation the male seems to get a little territorial, he allows her too chase him around but if she tries too take it he gives a growl and doesn’t allow the female too play with them too. What should I do?
My Golden was doing good on a prong until a barking dog on an electric fence ran out and freaked him out -he re focused his aggression and fear onto me and tried to bite me! Ever since then I stopped using it. I miss the control I had but I’m scared to ever retry
Hi Robert, I'm from India, I wanna get a GERMAN SHEPHERD, I know home Obedience training nothing special....should I go for working line or Showline?? Any help would be helpful..
Hi Robert, another informative video...I have what I think might be a curly question for you. I met a lady the other day who had just rescued a deaf dog and was having difficulty getting the commands across, I was thinking an e-collar using just the vibrate might be an effective way for her to train her new dog. I'm not a dog trainer but watch all of your video's and am trying my own Australian cattle dog at the moment and have had great success getting her accustomed to other dogs from your advise. What's you opinion ?. Kind regards David
Prong collar question: I have a 40lb lab. I'm using the small HS prong collar. I place the collar right behind her ears, yet it always slips down her neck during a walk. The collar seems tight and I'm worried to make it any smaller. What might I be doing wrong?
This is very common. It happens on my dog, too. I have taken a link out and it was pretty snug, but I used it that way for awhile. But, once when I put it on her she yelped, so I put the link back in and I’d recommend keeping it that way, even if it’s loose. When you correct, try to not pull back as much, but upward a little and that should help. One other thing I’ve heard of is putting a wide flat collar directly under the prong so it can’t slide down. Worse case, just stop every now and then and reposition it. Keep practicing the heel command and they will get it!
Hey robert! I have a 7 month old pitbull he is a very good puppy he listens to commands overall he is really good but sometimes he has those bursts of energy and he just jumps on me and my girlfriend and he starts to growl and show aggression... any tips to stop it immediately??
bonk it! Jeff Gellman Solid K-9 training on TH-cam or Facebook. Use a rolled up cotton towel or a medium stuffed animal. You have to stop this behavior soon before it turns to biting and fighting with other dogs etc...Read testimonials on Jeff's site
@@hectorskmetija3015 Indeed. He's a wise ass, too with a rapier wit and a sense of humor so dry you want to douse him. (Unless he's in the kitchen making boobs with KONGS). Then, he's just plain funny.👀
Choke and prong collars are designed to punish dogs for pulling by inflicting pain and discomfort. They can cause serious physical and emotional damage to dogs and should never be used.
The head halters that are “nice” can twist a dogs neck, a no pull harness compressed the shoulders and muscles that also causing discomfort, a simple slip lead can choke a dog out, a normal collar pushes against the trachea. Please, suggest something for me that won’t cause discomfort. The prong causes a second of discomfort and the dog has full control when he feels the prong and when he doesn’t. Don’t judge a training tool that you have never used
non sequitur Only if they are used incorrectly, any slip collar can be used incorrectly too, so can a regular collar. No one who is a good handler would ever use to punish any dog. Any collar can cause harm if used incorrectly.

Lol Robert, I’m gonna get you a T-Shirt that says “I know that, by the way...” 😂
Good one!😁🐺
Yeah that Was Way arrogant kind a hard to maintain people attention when you repeat it three times in a row👊👍😎
He knows that, by the way 😉
1:04 faster corrections, less bulk and the dog feels the weight of the chain itself a lot less.
1:11 same here
1:40 that's the real answer

Hire someone to work you through it. What a shame not to try again.

What about a Great Pyrenees who is a thick coat? What size prong is more effective? Thank you
Def Large!
And we are talking size of the individual prong, not the size of the collar, right?
@@gavinmasterson7843 the medium refers to both, the size of the prong ans collar size. basically a 3mm prong.. you size it to your dog.

My 5 month old rottie does the same thing. I bought spring collar today and not sure if it’s the right choice or not. What did you decide to go with?
I tried the bunker but it seems to make her scared and I stopped after only a few times. I didn’t like hitting her anyhow even with a towel.
He needs to double up on another collar
