More on “monofloral” honey: No beekeeper can guarantee, of course, that a bee hasn’t visited another type of flower. However, there are best practices they follow: Beehives are placed in an area dominated by manuka in full bloom. The honey is immediately extracted following the end of the nectar flow, and the honey is laboratory tested to ensure it meets thresholds for pollen count (and other variables).
I live in New Zealand and have been buying Manuka honey for years. We saw a sharp increase in price when we had an influx of Chinese legal immigrants over the last 15 years. I would see them grouped around the honey section in supermarkets debating on which one to buy in bulk to send back to China. This doesn't happen anymore as there is now a more direct commercial supply to China but the demand grew exponentially because of the belief in its health benefits. Here in NZ we don't experience the over-blown hype about its health benefits like I've seen on American TV...all we experience is the 2-3 times of it's price increase.
Interesting that you guys haven't succumb to the hype! In America it seems like we're always looking for a quick "magic bullet" to cure our ailments rather than doing the slow work of changing our lifestyles.
I’m not much of a follower but I actually get excited when I see a new video from you. There is a trust that I can’t explain. Thank you for True Food TV!
Hi Nicole, Thanks for the great discussion on Manuka Honey! Important point for wound care: Only use medical grade Manuka Honey that's been gamma-irradiated and sterilized for wounds. In many places, these dressings need medical device registration. Regular Manuka Honey is great for consumption, but wounds require the sterilized version. Medical-grade Manuka Honey dressings are fantastic for wound healing (in my experience!). Regards.
I'm a New Zealand beekeeper, not in a manuka honey area, so I have nothing to gain here my main honey crop is thyme honey and I completely disagree with the gamma sterilized comment. All raw honey regardless of point of origin has the ability to produce hydrogen peroxide because of a enzyme that honey bee's introduce into all honey called glucose oxidase. To quote a research paper from the national library of medicine called "glucose oxidase, an enzyme Ferrari" Glucose oxidase catalyzes the oxidation of β-d-glucose to d-glucono-δ-lactone and hydrogen peroxide in the presence of molecular oxygen. All honey has this property if it has not been heat treated or zapped with radiation which destroys the enzymes and makes it as worthwhile as a jar of sugar syrup. Natural honey is antimicrobial, antiseptic and promotes healing. Irradiated honey does not, the enzymes are destroyed. Manuka honey contains additional complexes but all natural raw unheated and unirradiated honeys have healing benefits, however some honeys can and do contain toxins and should be avoided such as rhododendron and tutin honeys.
👍🍯Great info and thanks for the simple breakdown. I love manuka honey. The only thing i would add is that multifloral manuka honey still has all the health befits if the MGO is over 100+. Lately ive been getting Gold Fern Honey, they have great Manuka at reasonable prices on amazon ❤

Either way, I think I'll stick with honey that doesn't cost a fortune. Thanks again! You are awesome!
They haven’t tried to suppress it… Anyone who has lived anywhere that “manuka” honey isn’t harvested knows that it doesn’t matter… How? Our mothers and grandmothers put honey from our area on wounds and fed it to us as kids and that is how we didn’t get sick. I would love to believe my family and others we know are just super human… But we’re not.. It’s the average, local raw honey we eat. Manuka is pushed because it can only be found in Australia and big pharma in American can capitalize on it… How else would we get it over here? Hilarious.

I love manuka honey. It has a distinct taste that is different from non-manuka honey. Primarily, it is not as cloyingly sweet. At the lower MGO/UMF it has a subtle note that is hard to describe, but it takes a turn from sledgehammer sweetness of non-manuka honey. Higher MGO/UMF tastes more medicinal to me and veers even more from the taste of non-manuka honey, which makes it less enjoyable for me. If I want medicinal, I'll just take medicine. Well, you are a healthy young person probably. That is why your statement about countless number of teaspoon of Manuka honey you are willing to consume sounds fair. Same time not many people can tolerate so much sugar to digest. MGO rating is a scientific one and can be measured. Assuming the vast majority of consumers buy Manuka honey as a medicine and not as a sweetener, a simple math can tells you the following. To deliver the same amount of a dietary Methylglyoxal into your bloodstream ( for maintain antibacterial effect) you can chose to consume 1 tspoon of MGO500+ or 5 tspoons of MGO100+ or 10 tspoons of MGO50+ . A regular New Zealand export type jar of Manuka honey contains 250 gr or 8.8 oz of honey or 15-16 tspoons ( it stated on a label). Now I offer you to make your own calculation counting US dollars you spent for cheaper Manuka vs. "expensive' one. Just multiply the cost of MGO100+ on 5 ( here in Brooklyn, NY MGO100+ costs around $25) , so $25 x 5 = $125.00 Here at Trader Joe's MGO50+ costs $13.99 , so multiply it by 10 = $139.90 Same time you can buy MGO550+ Manuka honey for $65.00 ( well at least on our website) Now I'd like to ask you again, in what potency you stay in favor ?
I just started it today for the first time and idk but I can never go to the bathroom and it worked for me within the same day I ate it! Mine was a +50 mutifloral $13.00 with a code I could scan and read about where it came from right to the bee keeper. Hive to hand

If it’s UMF and MGO rated/certified does it matter as much if it’s explicitly stated to be monofloral? You’re presumably getting the important compounds with a high rating.
Assuming the vast majority of consumers buying Manuka honey as a medicine and not as a sweetener, a simple math can tells you the following. Love the detailed chapters But I wanna know, can this be produced in any part of the world under greenhouses with just that one flower? Are there any who do?
For the people asking: No, you can't make Manuka honey by adding the tree oil in regular honey, because a big part of the flavor difference comes from the different glucose/fructose ratio in it, which differs from most types of honey and is significantly lower in fructose.
I heard about this a while ago when my elderly mother had wounds treated with “New Zealand honey”. It worked for that clinical use, but I didn’t taste it….
So it's gathered, processed and bottled the same way as all other honey's? Maybe TeaTree land is scarce? Then it's just localized as you said. Maybe postage is higher, coming from so far away 🤔
Can you provide please with a link to the court decision that substantiate your statement about Manuka honey could be from Australia or any other country where Leptospermum Scoparium plant is growing ?
multifloral seams to have a better taste to it do to the way monofloral is processed . monofloral is processed with the honey come witch includes royal jelly. it is healthier but has a horrible bitter aspirin like after tast.

only flowers for a few weeks, last year sharvest was very poor due to the weather and bee keepers struggled to keep bees alive, this year 2024 has been a good harvest
Did my thesis on honey. Manuka's cost to health benefit ratio is not good. You're just paying like 30 more dollars for miniscule improvement of certain aspects. Not all mind you, only few aspects. Just stick with your local farmer fresh honey. Those are great.
Anti-bacterial only works for bacteria. Many ailments are viral or fungal in nature and it won't help at all. I don't think the anti-bacterial properties are what's soothing sore throats as even the cheapest artificial honey seems to help and most common forms of throat infections are viral. Outside of direct contact to skin and strep throat, im very skeptical of any medicinal properties. It also clearly doesn't effect the gut biome as the anti-bacterial properties don't discriminate between the "good" and "bad" gut bacteria. Therefore it would upset our gut biome like anti-biotics do.
its only worth buying semi expensive manuka honey if you are appling it topically, if eating it you dont really get any benifit, but hey i also get it for free
I may be one of 10,000 people, maybe more, but I do not like Honey. I like tea, I like coffee, as it is. Nothing else. Well, with tea, a bit of lemon, but I do like lemons & other citrus fruits.
The brain is a highly metabolically active organ requiring a large amount of glucose. Methylglyoxal (MGO), a by-product of glucose metabolism, is known to be involved in microvascular dysfunction and is associated with reduced cognitive function
I been taking manuka honey for over 3 years now usual with an MGO between 400-850 and I swear by this stuff it has changed my life for the better. It helped me in so many ways but every time I try to state the ways it helped me my comments get removed for breaking the rules. TH-cam and big pharma really do not want us getting to word out
There is a monofloral honey in North Carolina from the blooms of the Cataba tree it is white or transparent honey. All honey has anti-bacterial properties and so what if this honey has a little more, it is all hype to me as my soap has anti-bacterial qualities also. This is just Bee-keepers dreaming to get rich. If you have a lot of money burning your pocket I have some crypto-currency investments I would love to talk to you about.
Every raw honey has antibacterial properties. So just for that it's not worth it to overpay for Manuka. That said, Manuka has multiple biochemical compounds not very well studied that do appear have significant healing properties and antibacterial BS has nothing to do with that. These compounds come from the tea plant indigenous to Australia and NZ and provide immune support, can balance hormones, are anti-inflammatory, can help with arthritis, skin diseases and heart protective (this is not exhaustive list). As Nicole said, high price does not guarantee quality, this is true, so do your homework. Australian Manuka is cheaper but appears to have the same quality as NZ.
Antibacterial properties can be measured. Not all honey's have the same level of effectiveness as Manuka. Having said that, there are cheaper options, which are just as effective. But, if you want o pay $300 for a honey, go ahead. You better like it a lot or have a very specific use for it.
Manuka honey is produced from the Tea Tree, which is indigineous to Australia,, introduced to New Zealand. Australia has been producing it for over a hundred years. NZ named it Manuka, a Maori word, and patented it to cut out Australia.. They sued Australia for using the word, and lost the case. Australian Manuka is far more potent, because we have over 30 varieties of Tea Tree, NZ only one.. Recently some NZ beekeepers were prosecuted for selling fake Manuka, because they couldn't keep up with demand.... 7:17

Do some research on it. Helicopters are used snd scientific labs to say it's authentic. Both are expensive.

I guess Centauri Honey is best among all
white manuka honey is great.
fantastic video
Thank you! 😃
In America, if you know how to market it, Americans will buy it.
Honeys been around since the Bible times n it worked!
or just buy tea tree oil?
its only worth buying semi expensive manuka honey if you are appling it topically, if eating it you dont really get any benifit, but hey i also get it for free
Sounds awesome!!
Manuka was recommended by my physician.

Methylglyoxal (MGO), a by-product of glucose metabolism, is known to be involved in microvascular dysfunction and is associated with reduced cognitive function
raw fat is best for your brain
Let's start with buying honey from beekeepers, and never in big shops. :)
❤❤❤
No, i prfer notmal honey, cause hanuka honey distinct scent that overpower everything you added in, even in milk, unless you like the scent.
So... How many 300$ bottle I have to eat to because immortal 🤣
I Want It😮😮😮
We don't need to know how God makes honey work inside us. All we need to know is that honey is tasty and healthful. Period.
If you have a lot of money burning your pocket I have some crypto-currency investments I would love to talk to you about.
monofloral honey is a joke, you cant control where bees go unless you have a sprayed monocrop thats like 16square kilometers.
There are areas where manuka is the prevalent flower in bloom. See pinned comment above.
Latest news on manuka honey is David banfield, the fired CEO, drove the business to the ground along with his boy toy Andy chen😂
No magic superfood? Try Raisin Bran!! Happy going in, happy going out.
To me it isn't any better as the raw honey didn't c any health benefits then other raw honey.
Damn girl. Lookin alright 🤭🤭
See scientific research for Centauri Honey , not a claim but scientific facts

Honey enema?
I s was ent with w/the $16.00 version 😂
Manuka honey is produced from the Tea Tree, which is indigineous to Australia,, introduced to New Zealand. Australia has been producing it for over a hundred years. NZ named it Manuka, a Maori word, and patented it to cut out Australia.. They sued Australia for using the word, and lost the case. Australian Manuka is far more potent, because we have over 30 varieties of Tea Tree, NZ only one.. Recently some NZ beekeepers were prosecuted for selling fake Manuka, because they couldn't keep up with demand.... 7:17
