They sure could!! The whole concept of Juneteenth centers around the fact that blacks in Texas did not even know the civil war was over and they had been granted their freedom. And this was years later!! Crazy times indeed, and ugly.
Interesting. You may or may not have heard of an old TV series called "The Texan" The main character was Bill Longley. It's how/why your video caught my attention.
I don't now recollect where exactly I read how bitterly Longley complained about his impending execution while John Wesley Hardin "got off" with prison time having killed many more people than he had. Texas was home to some rough characters in the post civil war era. I really appreciated your factual presentations of these infamous characters without a lot of fluff. The historical facts are certainly enough as you present them. Well done sir
Wester lore is very difficult to sort through. News accounts from the times are not only inaccurate, some are extremely exaggerated, even completely fabricated. Some historic figures whose actions can be considered questionable were promoted in a positive way & sometimes quite aggressively. One example is Custer's widow played a large role in how he was viewed (over time history has judged him more objectively, & harshly).
Wow, a fellow historian for sure. Libby Custer was on a mission to have George forever instilled in the American Psyche!! I am not sure it worked for her, even in the short go. Their final posting was wrought with salacious rumors of affairs, entitlement and grift of government funds and equipment. What a great comment, thanks for leaving it.
A history lesson on the real Custer would make an interesting episode. You would have to work to cut out it down to a reasonable time limit. Maybe two parts?
I really been enjoying these stories. I've been watching your channel for a good while now because of the testing you do with guns and ammo. I always knew you were in Ohio but didn't know you were in Findlay only 40 minutes away from where I live. wondering do you have a brick and mortar store or are you just on line.
Ammomart is only on line, but the backbone of the channel and where I train is Buffalo Trading Company. Buffalo is a full source gun store and indoor range. Thanks for viewing!!
Texans during the civil war started killing each other over leaving the Union. Reconstruction Texas post civil war was even worse! But of course violence was endemic all over the West
Enjoy hearing stories from the old west. Great story 👏
Excellent...a product of times ...some times could be ugly,

The historical stories of the West are a great addition to your channel.
I very much enjoy the "old west" stories, please keep it up!
Been waiting for this one!!
I am glad we covered it for you! Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.

I was totally not aware of that. I will have to try and check it out. Thanks for the tip and the comment!!!
If an old and foggy memory serves, Rory Calhoun played that heroic figure.
@@patrickaltman4502 that's the one.
GREAT INFO THANKS
Nailed it again!
Great work

Yes, absolutely

My quick search indicates Ammomart is online only. Which shouldn't be confused with The Ammo Store in OH that has physical store.

Justice was a rare commodity back then, as outlaws and lawmen weren't often differentiated by too terribly much.
They needed Tom Horn to take care of him.
