Thank you! I watched your video, took apart the dryer, measured the belt (93in) looked up the part number and it's listed 92 in. I realize over the years it stretched. So when putting it back together after watching your video I would have doubted myself if I had not watched the pulley and over the motor shaft part. You gave extremely clear visual on how to put everything back together. I hope 9 years after making this video you are still checking your comments 🤘🏽
Update: I just replaced the belt in my dryer and your video came in handy for more than one reason. You showed how to loop the belt around the idler pulley better than other videos; you made me careful not to drop the lint filter screws; I discovered that my idler pulley was also defective; and you made opening/closing the dryer body a snap!
Thanks for this! Especially the part about getting the belt around that wheel. I think our dryer is about 51 years old and we just fixed it by buying a new belt for $20.99. They don’t make them like they used too 🙃
Thank you Bill. My 92 year old mother is on a fixed income. Her dryer belt broke and the local companies wanted way to much money. Thanks to you I was able to order the parts off Amazon and fixed it myself. The only difference between this one and mine; mine has a small panel at the bottom of the door and the door had springs. It didn't take me long to figure out how to get the door off. Thanks again.
Bill you save me a whole lot of money over the past year . I have a 30-year-old Browntop Kenmore that will not die .lol. The heating element just went out and I replaced it and the belt went out and I replaced it . Unbelievable this Kenmore that was 30 years old ran that long without an issue .I guess it's good for another 30 years LOL
Thank you sooo much, you saved me. I watched other ones before I found yours and I was like WHAT..? Watched yours, went straight to it and fixed it...Yay...!
Bill, a million thanks for your video! When scrolling thru the videos to watch for replacing the belt, "Brown top Kenmore Dryer" and thought, that's my 27yr. old dryer! Followed your vid, step by step, and it couldn't have been easier, by myself. You saved me and my dryer!!! I appreciate it more than you know...
I am currently trying to get an old dryer back up and working, I have completely disassembled it and needed to know how to install the belt, this video is great in the instruction. To not to lose the screws, I found by stopping the chute with a cloth works.
I hope you still read the comments on your video because this was fantastically helpful. Rather than buying a new dryer for $500 or a house call -- $100+ -- it cost me $8 for the belt, a few days wait for the part to arrive in the mail and 30 minutes of my time to put the machine back in operation. Maybe it will last another 30 years. ...
Thanks, Bill! You've saved me hundreds of dollars and kept my trusty old friend, my browntop Kenmore dryer, running like a champ! I replaced the belt, the timer, heater element, and various thermostats over the years and she just keeps going. Thanks again, Bill!
Thank you! ( years later after you made this video, I found this, and fixed the belt issue, we replaced the felt belt that goes in the back of the drum, and we didn't install the motor belt on right, and your video showed me how...thank you!
Hi Bill - I'm not too handy because I never really had to be. So when my Kenmore dryer belt broke and I told everyone I was going to fix it, I had many doubters (including my own mother - lol). I followed this video and nailed it with ease. Thank you so much. I subscribed to your channel and will recommend you to others in the future.
Thanks Bill! Your instructions saved me hundreds of dollars. Replacing my dryer belt cost $8.00 for the belt and little elbow grease. Cleaning out all the lint took more time than the repair. Great tutorial; everything was exactly as you described. Thanks again!!!
Thank you so much Bill. I had resigned myself to buying a new dryer, but your video made me feel like I could replace the belt on my own. The dryer is humming along again as I make this comment. Thanks again!
Thanks a ton Bill . Have this 1986 brown dryer now for 3 years and belt broke off to lowes to fix and now after a day of it and no service call its fixed !! .
Thank you. I have an old gas dryer that's more than 30 years old. It keeps on tickin' but every once in awhile it needs something new. Last time it was a heat sensor and this time the belt. Still, not bad for coming free with the house when I bought it.
I do read the whole description! ☺️👍 Thank you very much for your help!!! 🤝🤝🤝 I think it'd be also helpful if you include a link to get the parts (belt in this case) and or the part number. Anyway, thank you, thank you, thank you!! 🙏🙏🙏
THANKS FOR THE HELP! My grandma's Kenmore 500 broke down and this was the assistance I needed. Thanks for the clear and concise instructions. Keep up the great work.
Bill, thanks for your excellent video!!! My dryer stopped running and my dad suggested it could be the belt. I bought a $14 replacement from Lowe's, found your video, and it's fixed! Others may have already suggested this, and perhaps you've discovered a trick since this was posted, but i heeded your warning about the lint trap screws: i took a small bundle of work rags and tucked them into the hole while removing and inserting the screws. Elimination control! 😁 Thanks so much!!!
@BillNewberry An additional question on this same dryer: is there a way to replace or recover the cushion on the back edge of the drum? Mine has split in a few places and i would love to slip a new cover over that edge, if possible.
This morning my dryer not spinning. I think, well it's old I probably should just buy a new one. I start pricing new ones, I think, well, let's see if I can fix it, which I did for 8 bucks and the help of your video. Thank you so much!
It looks pretty easy thank you for doing it slowly , because being a woman and learning how to work on things myself it sure makes it easier when you take your time lol
Bill, you created a very helpful DIY video that made the job very simple. Thank you. Some others may have already offered a solution to losing the screws down the lint chute. I will offer one also. Seal the filter chute with "painters" tape before removing the screws, then remove the tape after reinstalling the screws. "Painters" tape will not mar the surface nor leave adhesive residue. No more lost screws to retrieve. Keep up the great work! Ps, yes I read the whole description, but not until after I left this comment.
Thank you! I'm not very handy but your video saved me. My heart sank when I heard the original (30-year) belt snap and thought I'd have to find a plumber to help during shelter in place. Installed the new belt tonight and just ran the first dryer load! It worked! The biggest challenge was figuring out how to disassemble/re-assemble the front panel (I have a 2 part piece). Other than that, getting the belt on was easy.
My dryer belt broke last night. Love this video because this dryer is very similar to mine. Thank you for providing such a clear description of how to replace the belt.
Thank you Bill for doing this video. I have the exact same dryer with a broken belt. Your instructions were perfect. The dryer is running like a champ again! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Your video saved me $150 if I had it serviced by the retail store. You explained it well and walked me through it perfectly! My wife and I owe you dinner if you are ever in the Central NY area!
Great video but I did call my dad with a question about the noise it was making after I changed the belt and he asked if I checked the drum rollers and the pulley so maybe you could add checking out those things as well as he belt change in one video for us ladies who want to do it ourselves so we know everything about fixing our dryers. I have a kenmore brown top it is my baby, I love it had very ten years and i don't want a new dryer so knowing everything about maintaining it would be awesome. Thanks you are my favorite you tube repairman!
Thanks SO MUCH for getting the footage of you putting the belt on properly at the bottom of the drum! That's key to the whole process. I can't wait to try this for myself as soon as I buy the replacement belt.
Thanks bill your the only video of probably 10 that I've found with the dryer I have I was so pissed until I saw this and had it fixed in 5 minutes cause you finally showed how to run the belt
I baught this very same drier today real cheep. But it did have a broken belt and or belt switch. Thank you very much i will check back in on your other videos You explain very, im very handy but it doesn't hurt. James
Thanks for this video. The spouse and I were able to use this to replace the belt. Having two sets of hands helped. Dropped one of the front panel screws under the drum and behind the dryer screen panel. Now I keep a magnet in my tool kit. :)
This video helped me find out why my dryer didn’t start.. needless to say I tested nearly everything else and studied the schematic hour and a half later I watched this video since I have a kenmore and my belt was snapped clean in half thanks man !
Thanks for this video, which guided me thru the replacement of a broken belt. I struggled with some steps of the repair of my electric dryer that went smoothly in your video: During re--assembly, the drum seemed to sit further toward the front so that the front panel would not fit on. Also, I could not keep the drum levitated in the front and it kept slipping off the back circular ridge. Finally I tipped the dryer over on its back panel, after removing the exhaust hose. With the dryer lying on its back, I could set the drum on the back circular ridge without having to hold it in place. I discovered that the drum was sitting too far to the front and slipping off the circular ridge, because the drum was sitting against, rather than riding on, one of the guide rollers. That roller was free to slide 1 to 2 inches along its axle. During my first attempt with the dryer upright, the axle was pushed backward far enough that the drum was not riding on it, but against it. I could see all of this and correct it, when I laid the dryer on its back. I didn't return the dryer to upright position until I had reattached the front panel.
I used a piece of coat hanger type wire by bending a hook on both ends and letting the drum hang off the back frame of the dryer at just the right height.
I thought your pace of instruction was very good. Not too fast, not too slow but comprehensive. No editing needed. Got my new belt and ready to give this a shot.
Thank you very much disabled vet and very happy not good with call or tablet but very happy with video im also a senior citisone im almost 66 very happy with video aint changed belt yet going to watch it a few times just so i got everything down good never looked anything on video but dont think i will have any probablems thanks again sorry for spelling but thanks very much cant afford tech to come out thanks so much tought a old dog a new trick saved me a lot think you again😂😊
Excellent video. Very helpful. My dryer is 30 years old, robust enough to be worth repairing. Only thing I noticed that you could have added was the correct number for the replacement belt which is 341241. I would suggest getting a belt made in US versus Chinese. My $.02
wow ... GREAT job on this video. 6.5 min total is good, pacing was perfect (not too slow ) and camera work perfect. ( lol ... now I will go open my dryer and see if it IS in fact the belt causing the "no spin".)

Thanks so much! Great video. Just had to pay for the belt. Forgot to plug the wires in of course, but was able to squeeze my hand in to connect without taking the front off again.
thanx man. Made it super easy. they built them back then so that any one could work on them and they'd last for a long time. the only problem was my front was a 2 piece and the disassembly was difficult and the springs for the door were attached to the base. to those that have this model pop the bottom down first(pry the top out) unhook the springs from the bottom and then proceed as above.
Thank you so much. I used your video and I was able to fix the same dryer with my in law. But the belt that I got was alot tighter than the one from your video. Thank you for the counter clockwise rotation tips. It would've been a pain to figure that out.
well done video!!! Nice slow pace and clear voice...... I will take my dryer apart tomorrow not sure if I have a broken belt, but, this video will help me determine that......
Thanks Bill. I'm fairly handy and could probably figure it out as I go but REALlY helps me to see you do it first. I appreciate what you do here! Thanks!
Well done my man ,much appreciated for a good video on replacing the dryer drum belt . I easily could have paid 200-300 bucks for a 15.00 dollar part way to go man.
Exactly what I needed. My model was slightly different in that it has a two panel front. The main front panel which includes the door and a smaller lower panel which allows service just to the lower area of dryer.

Hello Bill.....I just bought a belt for $10 at a used appliance store....took my dryer apart....a lil too much....saw your video for the placement of the bottom roller had it working in under 15 min....thanks for the assist.......
Don't we wish that every DIY video could be as clear, well-shot, and concise as this one?

Yup... I have Kenmore washer and dryer from the late 80's... hopefully it will outlive me. I hear the new appliances don't last 10 years, if that.
