I still watch your older video's for reference. You've got a great & worthy archive that's interesting to those currently considering older machines, like myself. Thanks man.
I've just bought one of these as my 1st triumph and love it, mine also has the arrow can which sounds good. Its also really good with a pillion as long as they don't mind a bit of mountaineering to get on.
I have a 2007 Tiger 1050 that I bought in 2014 with 24K miles on it. It's been extremely reliable. I agree that the motor is fantastic. It sounds wonderful (I have the stock exhaust) and has lots of grunt down low. It gets really exciting above about 4K RPM so you can have a thrilling ride too. I have the stock seat and in my opinion, it's actually pretty uncomfortable. My biggest complaint with the seat is that it's slippery so I'm constantly sliding forward o it. Maybe they 2009 model is grippier. Overall, this is a really nice bike.
My buddy has one of these, he recks he could ride it all day, no aches and pains. I went out with him following on my zzr1100 and I would smoke him on the straights but on the twisties he was quite hard to stay with. He has an aftermarket exhaust and it sounds raw! Lovely little bike.
I'm from the other side of the pond and I love your video. You seem very knowledgeable and it shows. I love my Tiger and I agree with the clunky gearbox. Take care friend
I agree about all of your points. Used to have one. I fitted a HID unit on the dip, and it was a floodlight, never needed main beam at all. Lowered the bike 25mm with dog bones and dropping the yokes. Modified the standard seat foam to round off the edges, and got an upholstery shop to refit the cover. £20. Rode mine all over Europe, it would happily cruise at 100mph all day. I am tempted to get another Tiger.
Glad you agree - and yes I lowered mine with dog bones too, just makes it that much more manageable. I sold the Tiger about 6 month ago, I kind of miss her!
Was reminiscing about all the bikes I’ve loved before today and thinking how I ended up with my current rides. Trying to get the story behind the story on you selling this one, though the true versions are generally not very spectacular and instead more practical, in my case anyway.
Any chance of getting the part numbers for the add-ons? I have the same bike, bought it in 2020 and having difficulty finding the handguards and oil reservoirs . Thanks!
The SE ABS comes with center stand, hard cases , and heated grips all standard. Its hard to find one with the stock top case. I have no idea why. People sell them? Idk. They are slowly winding down on replacement fairing pieces. A piece up by my talk cracked and had to have a body shop fix and paint it.
Hi mate - absolute long shot but any idea what GIVI box and rack it was? I've just picked up a 2011 tiger 1050 and I have the original triumph side luggage but no top box & the GIVI SR225 apparently does not fit with the side luggage
I know this is a old video, but anyone know what the standard height of the front shocks through the yokes is, just been to look at a used example, the forks look to have been raised a lot, through the yokes, I assume to lower the front end.
Hi can I ask you say this bike is heavy that’s why you put the crash bars on it. Do you know if it’s as heavy as the tiger 955i because I’ve just recently had mine written off by a lady who ran into the back of me. I’m after a lighter bike and was looking at the 1050 as it does seem to be narrower than the 955i. The 955i is super top heavy. Can I also ask do both sets of headlights come on together or is one just for main beam
I like how you said "No frills." When it has hand warmers. The 07 Tiger 1050 I have is the first bike that I bought with hand warmers and I am feeling a bit pampered now, because of it. The 6th gear is nice too.
Since my previous comment I have crashed and written off my 2007 Tiger 1050 and replaced it with a 2011 model. I agree with all your comments but on the new bike don't have the problem with back brake pedal - weird. I found Suzuki Vstrom 1000/1050 hand guards bolted straight on - might be cheaper than KTM ones. I fitted a pair of NZ$13.00 chinese led lights from Temo that are according to my mates super bright. I just cannot think of another bike regardless of price I would replace it with.
I have a 2012 SE ABS last year in the U.S. Sweetest motor I have ever been on. Ton's of torque. Very linear power band. Any gear and you are going!!! It does have a Harley like gear box. A little clunky but if you try different oil you will feel a difference. Negatives. I am 6' and have the gel seat and I cant flat foot at a stop. Im on the balls of my feet. It is very top heavy. I have been riding for 30 years and I dropped mine twice. Walking slowly down a driveway and doing a u turn in gravel. Once you are moving it feels very nimble and light. Tons of fun. No big ass shaft like the BMW Go with chain. Windshield is horrible. Got a Madstad on mine wow what a difference. No wind noise or buffeting. I wish it had cruise but its not ride by wire so oh well. Im getting a KTM 1190 Adventure next Not a big twin fan but the 1190 has 150 hp so it makes up for the twin feel. But that triple is smoother than any Japanese in line 4. Great motor. Amazing in fact
@@infantlightgaming4475 very reliable. Never had one issue with it. The only i cant figure out how to get the oil filter off cuz there is only about an inch of it exposed. I tried every oil filter wrench out there. I finally just took it in. Big deal. 3 qts plus a filter. Its a heavy tall bike and takes a little getting used to at slow speeds but once you are rolling its very balanced and easy to ride. Love the bike. Highly recommend it. Get the SE ABS lower gel seat. Very comfortable. That triple is an absolute blast to drive.
Great review! and cool sounding accent. Question about the bark busters. you mentioned KTM fit them. Which model would you buy to have them fit this bike? I want the two point mount but can't seem to find the model KTM to buy it from. Any help would be appreciated! (a link if possible)
+Michael Stanley Thank you Michael, it was a long time ago since I bought these (I will try and find a link later when I'm back home) - all I recall was that I bought generic hand guards from EBay and that when they turned up they were actually a KTM fit, not sure there was a specific model mentioned...thanks for the kind comments, and what do you mean "great accent" - I don't have one!! :0)
There is a used 2008 Tiger 1050 for sale at a local dealer for $4,795. I test rode, and it ran just fine. It comes with a full set of bags. I am not a great mechanic, I am tempted to pay more for a new bike with a warranty, but I would save a ton buying this nice adventure style bike for less than a new 300cc bike.
Just watched this Very good video in summer 2024,I'm thinking of upgrading from the 955i tiger to a 1050.The only bit you got wrong is the weight(unless you meant 230kg WET?)as the weight is actually more like 198 to 200 kg dry.whereas my 955i is 215kg dry.🙂
Thanks for the review. I test rode a 2010 model today, lots of positives and bugger all negatives. The bike is a little top heavy, noticeable on a round about, probably something you just get used to? The bike has done 43,000 kms and has NO service history! The bike is in immaculate condition but with those kms on the clock would I be opening up to experiencing wear and tear issues? Probably. I am currently riding a 2008 vstrom 1000, the tiger 1050 feels better in most areas particularly brakes, suspension and handling and I am on the cusp of buying one! Feedback is appreciated, cheers.
Hi, what was the range on your tiger I’m very curious as I have one and am riding to Portugal with pillion and passenger in August. I have looked online but nothing really solid to base my trip on. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks
Great video. Question: You say the bike is heavy. But when I google the bike it seems like the 2009 Tiger 1050 is "only" 198 kg dry. That is even lighter than a 2017 model of Tiger 800. The spec I found might be wrong - or is it just that it feels heavy?
Its just it feels a little top heavy when compared (for example) with a GS which carries it's weight much lower. Not a problem once you're on the move, the Tiger 1050 is a great bike, the newer Tiger Sport better still....
I'm looking into buying one and love the mods you have done. Lovely bike all round and well cared for. If you still own this and are looking to upgrade. I would definitely be interested. I'm in West Yorkshire.
I am really loving the Triumph, same year as yours. Couple of comments my previous bike a 650 Vstrom 'felt' more top heavy to push around the garage. The lights during the day my mates reckon are a bit weak but the previous owner fitted a couple of extra lights end of problem, I found the back brake pedal did not come easily to foot maybe just a case of getting used to it. Interestingly my grand-daughter said she felt 'safer' on the back of the Triumph though as someone else said a mountaineering exercise to get onto the back seat. Just a lovely bike but the windscreen could be improved for an all day ride.
Love this bike. I'm contemplating getting a second hand one of these or a multistrada 950. As you've had experience of both which do you prefer? To me the ducati sounds much nicer. Many thanks and keep up the great work!
Hi T.M.F. I Am looking at getting one you have the Givi. top box fitted with the Triumph side bags what fittings have you used for the top box rear rack and box plate and where did you get it from thanks keep the vlogs coming enjoy them all
They are lovely bikes I've got the 2006 sprint St with the 1050 engine and absolutely love it! I noticed you did a great review on that bike recently, how would you say power delivery is between the two. I ask because I've noticed the St seems to be quite a bit higher geared with a 19 front and 42 rear sprocket. Where is the Tiger has a 18 front and 44 rear I believe. Did you find the tiger a bit more wheelie happy and exciting in the lower revs? By the way love the channel 👍😁
Mister Flyer, do you remember the model of KTM hand guards you used to have on this bike? I'm going to need some for my 2007 now that colder weather is imminent.
I found OEM Triumph handguards on EBay for cheap. Pretty sure they were off a wrecked bike due to some scratches on it. But it’s worth it for the cold weather and even rain. It fits right on.
Love the Triumph story too mate, i rode Tridents back in the day, love the triple engine ..about to buy a Speed Triple, then i can pretend to be Ray Pickrell all over again :)
Hi, I'm actually thinking about buying one of these models, 2010 one, and could anyone give me some quick insight what I could watch for, or ask maybe around the owner? Thanks!
@@lofej congrats! How is the bike? You bought the adv version or with the 17"wheels?i am thinking to buy tiger 1050, tiger 800 or smt 990 and I don't know which bike to choose.. I love all the bikes.. This is problem:)
vagelis koios i love it, has torque from down under pulls nicely and smoothely, its a 2011 version, not the XC, this is with alloywheels, front 19”, feels good in corners no problem at all and can easily do offroad too if tou have exp. In it since its 220kg, no regrets for me with this bike and its beautiful too. I would recomend tryin it out first. Which ever you chose it will be personal to you for your liking.
I see that someone asked a while back if you would be so kind as to say which KTM bike your hand guards came off of... I would also like to know. BTW - Your video was a large part of the reason I chose a TT 1050. Where will I look for your reply? Thanks muchly! MS
I'm not sure what bike they're from - I bought them from E-Bay and they were labelled as for KTM but fitted the Triumph - it was about 6 years ago now...sorry I don't have any more detail!
I have a Tiger the same as yours and I have to say I hate the Arrow exhaust, I think it sounds so...add on. If you listen to the bike the engine and end can don't work together, they sound like two separate systems working on the same thing but not together. I bought a Daytona 955i with an after market can and got rid of it for a number of reasons, however my current standard Daytona 955i! sounds so much better. I appreciate after market exhausts may save weight but I've yet to hear one which sounds like it's at one with the bike. Other than that, love the channel and you make a refreshing change from the 'lets swear a lot' motorbike channels out there.
Good review, I have the same bike, same color, same exhaust... I wonder which tune are you using for that Arrow... I am using the road tune, with KN filter... tend to stall from time to time, shuts off sometimes when coming down gears... and idle is a bit unsteady (but that can be the terrible gas we have around these parts) Greetings from Costa Rica!!!
Hey Fernando - Great to hear from Costa Rica! I'm not sure which tune my tiger had, but I had zero issues with it running OK, never stalled or idled erratically....so maybe you're right, perhaps they water down your fuel! Incidentally I also had the KN filter fitted....good bit of kit. Thanks for watching and enjoy riding the bike - TMF.
+Jon Lloyd Hi Jon, yes, the gearbox can be a pain on these and was one of the reasons I ended up selling the bike - every now and then I had real difficulty going from 2nd to 1st and vice versa, not always a problem but intermittently and was a nuisance rather than a real problem......shame 'cos otherwise I loved that bike! Cheers for watching, all the best - TMF.
I thought I seen your bike for sale. Similar mods too. Only reason I'm here is I'm tempted to buy it. I'm kinda tall though so hopefully not too cramped.
+Waltham Hillingdon No problem at all in traffic, engine is a peach - filtering can be tricky if you're short in the leg (like me) as it's a fairly top heavy and tall bike - worse if you have heavy panniers - no issue if you're a bigger bloke though......
+holden caulfied Yes these are great machines aren't they, brilliant engine - the modern ones are superb (have you seen my Tiger Sport videos??) - thanks for watching - TMF
generally a medium with anything on my head, including helmets. you should just about be able to fit me for a nice outfit now. what will i be wearing, again? something stylish yet functional, i should think.
Thanks Stephen - I don't do anything unusual, I tend to only ride in dry conditions, if I do get caught out then I always rinse her off afterwards. I also make sure I use good quality cloths and cleaning kit....other than that it's just TLC and ACF50 ;0)
I dislike the tiger's stock lights. They could probably be re-focused to cast further out but I have a pair of Twisted Throttle fork lights that compensate nicely. The stock low beam casts a silhouette that resembles a Spartan helmet; it looks cool but it's hardly functional.
Agreed - I see for the newer model (the "Tiger Sport") these projector lamps have been replaced by much better stock lights....Thanks for watching David, all the best - TMF
Steve SALF replaced the rubber seals on the slider pin, the ingress of dirt in the slider was the cause and the calliper couldn't retract, it's all good now ;) Thing is I rarely use the rear brake anyway, don't need it with a triple engine as rolling off produces sufficient engine braking for me and I'm not in to that drift shit.
I have the 2012 model and the gear shifting is quite rubbish, specially between 1 and 2 when the revs are up a bit.... and sometimes at the lights its impossible to shift to neutral. I am going to try a different oil viscosity to see if it helps. Still, great bike though. Love the way it looks and comfortable enough to do a trip across Australia without problems.
My 2010 shifts like butter Almost all bikes do the Harley clunk from neutral to 1st. Big deal. Deal with it. 2-6 is one of the best shifting bikes I've ridden. My 2010 is a little slow off the line compared with my old 2012 1050. Not sure why. Same motor? I could wheelie no problem with my 12 but my 10 got to add a little clutch? Not sure why
@@TheMissendenFlyer THM, following my own logic, I should be dead to myself because I traded in my Tiger 1050 for the 1200 XRt. And to be honest, I wish I hadn't. The 1050 was an animal after I had tuned it, the 1200 while not a tractor like the BMW GS1200, it's a little sluggish. I haven't seen your video yet, but if we could buy the Tiger Sport here in the Colonies, I would do it tomorrow.
If anyone reading this owns a Tiger 1050, here are the must do mods: airbox mod and tune, change the goofy bars to the Tiger Sport bars, lower the footpegs (if you're normal height, 6 foot plus), raise the seat with foam, double bubble windscreen, rebuild the forks, and new shock (stiffer spring at minimum). Damn I miss that bike, I'm thinking of picking one up cheap now that I know exactly how to mod it.
Hi Paul - Yes, I loved my Tiger, the looks, the grunt, the sound of the triple engine made for a great bike. However the bike is basic compared to current new offerings. The electronics package, fancy suspension, bigger engine, riding modes and so on take the BMW into a different league (plus I was very lucky in that I was able to buy any new bike I wanted, and for my needs the BMW GS is my "dream money-no-object" bike).....
they are a great bike. I have two. Took one from UK to OZ other year. also have to mention the clocks and the button things are waste of time, too difficult to use unlike the new ones with buttons on the bars. If anyone fancies buying one .. I'd have no hesitation in saying go for it. No I have not been sponsored by Triumph ... yet! If you want to see one go across the world look here www.perthtoperth.com

Sadly I sold this about 6 years ago - miss that engine!
Have you tried the MRA Varioscreen?
@@TheMissendenFlyer No I haven't but will have a look. Thanks for the tip.
Love this bike. I'm contemplating getting a second hand one of these or a multistrada 950. As you've had experience of both which do you prefer? To me the ducati sounds much nicer. Many thanks and keep up the great work!
Hi T.M.F. I Am looking at getting one you have the Givi. top box fitted with the Triumph side bags what fittings have you used for the top box rear rack and box plate and where did you get it from thanks keep the vlogs coming enjoy them all
They were the standard Givi plates for the Tiger 1050 bought from a local bike dealer (On yer bike)...
I owned a 2011 SE which was a great bike especially if you are 6 footer or above! I believe still the only bike TMF has ever sold to date?
Not quite true - I sold my old Yamaha 600 diversion before the Tiger...
To be honest it was so long ago since I rode the tiger I can remember!
@@TheMissendenFlyer fair enough, your riding too many bikes you lucky boy! 🤣
Mister Flyer, do you remember the model of KTM hand guards you used to have on this bike? I'm going to need some for my 2007 now that colder weather is imminent.
+Mighty Mighty Wiggus I'm afraid I don't :0(
I found OEM Triumph handguards on EBay for cheap.
Thanks!
Hi friend.. Finally you bought it?
@@vageliskoios1062 No, i went with a Tiger 800 :)
@@lofej thanks bro for the informations..!! I think that I will buy the SMT but I don't know.. I change my mind every minute.. Haha
I know this might be a long shot but do you remember what tyres you had on this bike?
It’s on the tip of my tongue!!
But I can’t remember - it’ll come to me later...
Waiting with baited breath
I see that someone asked a while back if you would be so kind as to say which KTM bike your hand guards came off of... I would also like to know. BTW - Your video was a large part of the reason I chose a TT 1050. Where will I look for your reply? Thanks muchly! MS
I'm not sure what bike they're from - I bought them from E-Bay and they were labelled as for KTM but fitted the Triumph - it was about 6 years ago now...sorry I don't have any more detail!
Hola, dónde consigo un indicador de marchas para mi trimph tiger 1050 2011?
Sorry Fernando - I don’t understand Spanish!
@@TheMissendenFlyer Hi, where can I find a gear display for my 2011 trimph tiger 1050?
Thank you!
Good review, I have the same bike, same color, same exhaust... I wonder which tune are you using for that Arrow... I am using the road tune, with KN filter... tend to stall from time to time, shuts off sometimes when coming down gears... and idle is a bit unsteady (but that can be the terrible gas we have around these parts)
Greetings from Costa Rica!!!
Have you ever had any issues with gears sticking, 1st to 2nd?
+Jon Lloyd Hi Jon, yes, the gearbox can be a pain on these and was one of the reasons I ended up selling the bike - every now and then I had real difficulty going from 2nd to 1st and vice versa, not always a problem but intermittently and was a nuisance rather than a real problem......shame 'cos otherwise I loved that bike! Cheers for watching, all the best - TMF.
TMF, do you think the 800 is good enough for touring or do you need the 1050.
The 800 is a great bike, but if you're loaded or 2 up then the 1050 would be my choice :0)
TheMissendenFlyer The 1050 price is getting dangerously close to that of the BMW's though.
+Boodieman72 ....in that case, the Beemer it is ;0)
what KTM where the hand guards off ? Please thanks
Perry - Did you ever find out which KTM hand guards they are?
I thought I seen your bike for sale. Similar mods too. Only reason I'm here is I'm tempted to buy it. I'm kinda tall though so hopefully not too cramped.
Really? I’ll have to look that up (I sold this bike about 5 years ago).....
Thanks for review, good look
My pleasure!
What is the bike like in heavy traffic and filtering?
+Waltham Hillingdon No problem at all in traffic, engine is a peach - filtering can be tricky if you're short in the leg (like me) as it's a fairly top heavy and tall bike - worse if you have heavy panniers - no issue if you're a bigger bloke though......
Thank-you
This bike is good for filtering.. but not with the panniers mounted.
Great video. I have the '10 SE model. Love the bike. Triumphs are the best.
+holden caulfied Yes these are great machines aren't they, brilliant engine - the modern ones are superb (have you seen my Tiger Sport videos??) - thanks for watching - TMF
missendenflyer, how tall are you?
5 foot eight, what shoe size do you take?
right about a 12 in US sizes, what's your trouser length?
Medium - what size bowler hat do you wear?
generally a medium with anything on my head, including helmets. you should just about be able to fit me for a nice outfit now. what will i be wearing, again? something stylish yet functional, i should think.
Great TH-cam channel this guy really dose a good job but he has a lot more cash than your average biker. Seriously minted looking at this garage
I wish!
Is it like the BMW K bikes?
Not really no....
@@TheMissendenFlyer I have a 88 bmw 75c with a triple and was thinking about getting a 09 tiger for 3k.
lovely video thanks again great machine as im about to buy one
Great bikes these...
Wow! Stunning looking Tiger. How do you get it so clean? Must take you hours!
Thanks Stephen - I don't do anything unusual, I tend to only ride in dry conditions, if I do get caught out then I always rinse her off afterwards. I also make sure I use good quality cloths and cleaning kit....other than that it's just TLC and ACF50 ;0)
We have same "in condition" bikes. We clean them in 4 hours each and protect them with quality products.
Hi, thanks for that great Video, it helps me in my desicion to buy a 1050 👍👍👍
Glad to be of service Carl ;0) - they are great bikes, you won't be disappointed......ride safe - TMF
I bet you wish you had affiliated links for all the stuff you put on it. I want the oil reservoirs. :) nice video.
Nice review of a great bike
Thanks Danny :0)
Nice one, thanks for the review :-)
+codsworth You’re welcome...
and lower seat I think
back brake is positioned terrible, forever cleaning the bloody thing and it locks on a lot. love it though..
Agree re positioning but never had mine lock-on! Sounds dangerous!!!
Zer0kbps never had mine lock - I'd have that looked at quick!
US version claims to be 188KG = 416lbs
No way
This bike is close to 500 dry
Good looking bike still
Agreed!
Think I might after swap my africa twin for a 2018 tiger sport😆lol
good review
cheers
They didnt fix the clunky gears in the next model.
+Eelko van der Well the on the one I rode they did! Hugely improved gearbox compared to my old 1050....
My 2010 shifts like butter
Almost all bikes do the Harley clunk from neutral to 1st. Big deal. Deal with it. 2-6 is one of the best shifting bikes I've ridden. My 2010 is a little slow off the line compared with my old 2012 1050. Not sure why. Same motor? I could wheelie no problem with my 12 but my 10 got to add a little clutch? Not sure why
MissendenFlyer, I just read you sold the Triumph. You're dead to me.
+holden caulfied Well I still have the Street Triple...did you see my recent videos around the Tiger Sport?
😁😁
And yet you got a B M W ? ? ?
Lights are garbage. Very top heavy, but it's a screamer. This bike goes like a raped ape. Yes tranny clunky, but u can pick one of these up with cases up to a 2012 for less than 5k bucks
Hi . I have 1050 tiger sport 2015 and i love it. ❤️
