Ed is the poster child for misogyny. He wanted a vulnerable, young, beautiful woman. But since all he had to offer her was money he treated her like he was buying a car. He wanted to know her mileage. He wanted to make sure she knew he saw flaws so he could get her at a good price. He never thought for a second Rose would be strong enough to hold onto her dream of more children and leave him. Because misogynists don't like for women to actually verbalize their desires. She really dodged a bullet by letting him go.
