Marc Bolan was saying "Monitors" indicating that he wanted the sound coming from the small boxes (monitors) infront of group which enable them to hear themselves playing turned up. The band couldn't hear themselves and that's why Bolan was a bit miffed at the start.
Don’t forget this concert was 1972 when the concert facilities were less than ideal! You had thousands of screaming fans plus the stress of this gig being filmed and recorded for the born to boogie movie. Ringo from the Beatles was directing the filming of this concert in March 1972 in London. He was running around trying to get usable film of the concert.
Yep ! Great performance from T rex !! Just to clear a few things up on sound Quality ! This gig may be not brill for sound ! Check out David Bowie ! same year give or take ! From the "Ziggy Stardust " concerts ! sound was fine , tracks such as " Moonage Daydream " with fab solo by Mick Ronson !! well worth a go !!
This concert was filmed by Ringo Starr for the movie "Born to Boogie" It is very far off the mark to think they didn't want to be there. They all spoke very affectionately of the two concerts at the Empire Pool, one in the afternoon and one in the evening. The movie also features studio sessions with Ringo Starr and Elton John. There was a technical difficulty with the microphones and Marc makes an aside about the monitors. The guys are loving every minute of it. The drummer did indeed have that sneering drummer face. I have to comment because this concert was very significant in the band's career.
@grahamrogers3345 hi Graham, oh no brother he buried his money that deep off shore even he couldn't get at it , why?, to stop his own ex wife and SON ! from getting a settlement him, to suggest he was generous is completely false 🏴✌️
@@JamesDickson-vs5of Well that is utter nonsense. I have read every biography of Bolan in existence. He did not bury his money offshore. He was like many artists misadvised in this case by shady figures who set up an offshore company called Wizard in the Bahamas. After several years out of the UK he stood up to his management company and returned to the UK as he told them he didn't care about the tax consequences. When he died it became apparent that he and obviously Gloria and Rolan had been ripped off. His estate was virtually worthless. You really think that is what he wanted for Gloria and Rolan? I have written extensively about Marc and am in email contact with Gloria and I can assure you your view is not shared by either Goria or their son Rolan
Marc had nothing to do with the wages and as for the offshore money, yes he had his money in trust funds in Jersey to avoid paying the extortionate super tax in the 70s like most rock and pop stars back then, it was only when he died that the trust fund banks refused to recognise illegitimate children and the bands management had trouble getting royalties from them alsonot a lot you can do about that when you are dead.
@@kenhewitt7357 Well spoken sir. Why there is such and vitriole towards Marc s beyond me. Rick Wakeman, Steve Harley, Ringo Starr and Noddy Holder all described Marc as one of the most decent generous people they had ever met. Claiming he tried to rip off his partner and son is frankly disgusting. I will call out BS about any artist I admire not just Marc. Most rock stars were not angels but relatively few of them were demons.
Exactly. In fact Bolan's guitar playing is analysed on the excellent "Wings of Pegasus" website and they come to the conclusion.that he is an innovative guitarist who doesn't keep to the rules.
Makes sense. Seems like front of house was a little lacking considering that during the song, the percussionist kept pointing at the mics that he knew weren't working. Several times.
@SPKdesign1 One of my cousins was a session musician, and he worked with him on and off. He said that he was obsessed with how people perceived him and used to spit the dummy if his singles didn't do well.
Never heard much of this song on the radio, mostly just get it on and Jeepster. Anyway, wasn't all that impressed with this live version, certainly looks like half the band didn't wanna be there and I'm glad I'm not the only one who heard the wrong key.😅
I know Marc had his place in pop history , no issue with that , but apart from a few rocky singles like Telegram Sam and Jeepster he was never a fav of mine and by the time he was introducing The Jam on his toe curlingly embarrassing tv show ‘Marc’ he had become an anachronism and was heading for irrelevance imho. No need to come on Graham Rogers and correct me , your clearly a massive super fan and taking offence on Marc’s behalf , it’s my opinion and not up for debate or correction 🤷♂️ 👍🏴
Actually I totally agree about the TV show. Interestingly in Germany they had a show called Musikladen where all performances were live. The miming on UK shows was cringeworthy but was hardly unique to Marc's show. I am not a suoerfan I have never been to a T.Rex convention or anything like that but to be honest you seem obsessed with Bolan in a negative way. I hear lots of music on this channel and elsewhere that I don't like but I don't feel compelled to write about it or to slag off any artist or their music. Music is very personal to people. I can't stand rap but I wouldn't go in a bar where a customer has just put rap music on TH-cam and say "What's this garbage?" as some people would. Have a nice day.

Great stuff from a great band and artist.
I miss Marc. A true British National treasure.

This is my favourite song by them.
Enjoyed that 👍Agree with others about cosmic dancer, everything on the electric warrior album is great
Lots of bolan's guitar fills and solos wandered weirdly off-key but it just worked and sounded uniquely original. Very hard to mimic

Bolan was the only member of trex, that had any chance of affording a Cadillac, with the wages he insulted them with 🏴✌️
Fake news. He never decided the wages. Most people who knew Marc said he was a very generous and kind man and he always had time for his friends.

Saw your face in the solo at the end. Bolan's scale for soloing tended to be root note + a whole tone. It's a recurring theme that you get used to...

Quite good,
but looked like the musicians were tired and not so enthusiastic to play this day.
