Hi Everyone! I am so glad that you are here! Today for you - a story about a poor Stihl 026 PRO Arctic that was picked out of the trash! We are going to try to find out why it was thrown out! If you enjoy my chainsaw content and you want to see more - like this video! Tell me in the comments - do you own or have you owned a Stihl 026? What do you think about them? I enjoy them! I hope you enjoy watching me repair them because I have a couple more 026 saws coming to my bench! Thank you to everyone who watches and likes my videos. Have a wonderful day and thank you for spending a little bit of it with me!
Good morning, was a shame to discover that in a dumpster, has red fuel looks like Tru fuel, should have been retired to a shelf, it is so complete, thanks for bringing us along on your adventures
The 026 is my favorite Stihl saw. The 026 saw is why I got into working on saws in the first place. I used my 026 for all my firewood cutting, and while cutting I noticed something about the way it was running that just didn't seem right. I end up putting it on the shelf for over a year until I decided to give it a try fixing it my self. I really didn't have the cash to have a dealer look at it. So after a ton of research I come to the conclusion that the crank seals were leaking. I ordered an oem gasket kit that come with both seals. I made my own blocks for the intake and exhaust and a whole made pump and got my old 026 back to running like the day I bought it. I wish I would of had your videos to watch back then, it would of made things a lot easier. Can't wait to see part two. Hopefully the intake boot only has a loose clamp.😂
I have an 026 I inherited from my grandfather, and an 026 Pro I bought as a teenager. The 026 pro stopped working all of the sudden one day cutting firewood. The coil went bad, new coil and it still runs like a top. I cut about 10 cords of wood a year with it.
I have ran into that red fluid in the gas tanks. People don’t know what they’re doing. They’re just pouring straight stable into the tanks. I’ve seen them filled to the top with straight stable and not a drop of gas in the tank.
Encourage the customer to let you fix it. These are excellent saws. I had one for a short time and regret selling it. The 49cc's pack a lot of punch on that one. If he doesn't want to fix it I'll be happy to pay for the shipping and you can ship it to me, no joke.
Sad as it is for those chainsaws that can't be saved, at least Erica is able to salvage everything usable from them. Imagine these lying in landfills. She ends up with a nice collection of parts, able to help those with older models extend the lives of their saws. Well done, Erica and those who bring these saws to you.
Red fuel is fuel that has the Echo Red Armor 2 cycle oil. Which is one of the best 2 cycle oils out there for chainsaws, weed eaters, ect. It has a better lubrication then even the Stihl oil.
Hopefully, it lived well and did a huge amount of work in its life. Tony and Lily will have to pay everyones’ final respects to the saw. Rest in peace. 😢
I would think that one of the best things about having a chainsaw shop would be all the throw away equipment you'd come across for free. I once came across an 034 Stihl that somebody had got mad at and thrown on the side of a forest road. All it needed was a carb rebuild, new filters and a good used muffler I got off Ebay.
Hi Erica! I'm a marine diesel mechanic over here in WA State who runs saws pretty often and I have found myself glied to your channel! It is really refreshing to see a fellow female repairing these saws and working through issues the way you do! Would love to collaborate with you someday! I teach engines and would love to meet you down the road!
Down in South Carolina near the mountains... you could live cam that snowfall and I'd watch it all day long! (We might get a lil snow come January or February, but it's rare)
Hi Erica! Yes, it's your favorite xlogger from southern Virginia again. I find myself drawn to your videos again, just can't help it. I always learn something new...or something i forgot. You are much appreciated.
Another great video, Erica! I hit 👍 before I watched! My first saw was an 026. 1989 I believe. It's now a parts saw. I replaced it with a MS260, which now needs lots of loving. I also purchased two more mint 026's. I love these saws. Your videos are top-notch. Every little detail and explanation are covered 👌. Thanks for the time you put in for us! See you on the next one.
I like that you use a spark tester. Alot of guys just put the plug against the cylinder and pull it over to check for spark. That works to tell you that you have spark but does not simulate the resistance inside the combustion chamber like a inline spark tester. Can really throw you for a loop if you don't know better. Sometimes a coil can still produce spark but be too weak to provide sufficient spark while the engine is running or at WOT. One of the first things I do on a used saw is clean the exhaust and exhaust port. Have had carbon ruin to many cylinders. Bet the saw didn't run because the carb diaphragms are shot. That's my guess but I'll keep watching to see.
I'd went back forth with a guy about most stihls having plastic handles. I dont mind em at all. Some of my plastic handled saws are 20 yes old without a failure. He said, well havent you ever pinched your bar and had to yank on your saw? I can tell you from having had done my own saw mechanicin that that's a bad idea. You'll either do like this saw had with that intake boot,or mess up antibes stuff,or break or bend your handle. Carry an extra saw or at least another bar and chain. That way you can unbolt the powerhead and keep on working g until your bar gets freed.
@@marriedwithsmallengines You found the reason it was in the dumpster and it wasn't just because someone was cleaning out grandpas garage. The other two are probably no better.
Can’t beat this old saw if you taken good care of it, ours is just like new as far as service goes but a ton of hours in 100/103 texas summer temperatures, year after year 😊😊😊
I'm repairing one right now, a newish Poulan 3314. I don't rally need it, but someone gave it to me and I like a challenge ( it looks as if the purge bulb is cracked). If I get it running I'll keep it in the truck for emergencies; no drug addict will steal a saw no-one wants to buy!
Hello Erica. Love watching your repair videos down here in Australia. Not familiar with "Arctic saws" here. Could you explain how the handle gets heated please? Thanks and keep up the terrific work. Cheers.
@@marriedwithsmallengines It really is, and mine just kinda fell in my lap too. Found it on market place really cheap, $150, couple of the bolt holes for the recoil cover were stripped out. Couple of Time-Serts later and I have an impressive saw. Just looking for another to replace my fathers Poulans.
Good afternoon to you and I'm glad to be here . I really enjoy your videos I really dig you working on these old and bringing them back to life. I too really want to know the history of these old saws It would be really interesting to know.
@marriedwithsmallengines these definitely are my favorite type of videos you produce My second favorite is the ones that are damaged by people and stupidity.
people go to gas pump that have 3 kinds of gas. the lines can hold over 1/2 gallon of the last fuel sold. they need to put a gallon in their truck then fill premix can or go to no ethanol only pump.
Enjoyed! I guess if it were me I would like to see if the heating system worked before continuing with the repairs. In the States that arctic would be of value as you cannot purchase a new saw here with that. I used my heated handle saws this week and they were great!👍
Thank you for posting this excellent video. We will have to see what the "dumpster diving owner" decides. I was thinking that it is hard to know if one or more people have bled on the saws. There could always have been someone who sustained a bodily injury and the person did some bleeding on the equipment. Also it is just remotely possible that the saw came into contact with body fluids of some sort when it was tossed in the dumpster. Like baby diapers. Or dead animals. Do be cautious!
Thank you for the video. It is interesting that your experience observed the handle not quite in the original shape. Buyers may not know that unless they work on their saws a little and know the handles well. Good diagnosis. I am interested in hearing what the customer decides. I am curious what as close to an equivalent replacement saw would be compared to the parts to progress further down the diagnostic path.

What I think would be so interesting is to go into my stihl dealership and see all these saws around the room in the shelf just to look at like a museum.
Holding the throttle open allows air through the carb during the compression test. I will do a compression test with and without holding the throttle open next time to see the results.

"True Fuel" canned gas is a pinkish colour. It may be what you're seeing. You probably know this, but, hey, comments help the algorithm! 😉 oh, and I just heard you say it was True fuel so...nevermind 😅
Absolutely, I thought about the other 026. I will look it over , but it is not Arctic so the handle won’t work. Maybe the other 026 will be a good saw. Time will tell!
I was at our township cleanup days and there was an older guy there about to throw his stihl 045 chainsaw in the bin I quickly said don't throw it away it's a stihl so he handed it to me and said you want it I said yes do you know what's wrong with it he said will not start ok I brought it home checked it out put a chip in it runs awesome
Another great video! Why do you always pour the fuel into the plastic container and then into the glass? It seems like you can do some things to save time.
The large plastic cup is easier to pour into and less chance of spilling gas. Then I pour into glass so you can all see better. If I wasn't filming I would not take the extra step of pouring into clear glass for viewers to see. The videos are not really made with the thought of saving time, but more to show you the small details.
Hi Erica! Seeing as he got it for nothing would it be worth spending a couple of hundred bucks to get it fixed? Could end up with a good saw for a lot less than a new one..🇦🇺🍺🍺
I could make this saw run, but he will still have a saw that has started to score and looks like it has a pile of hours on it , and has a bent and twisted saw (which likely took the intake boot out). It’s a tricky one!

I can not believe how many saws you have for repair if one buys a saw, he/she should get to know it, I do all my small engine work the only reason I go to small engine dealers is for parts, I can't order online
We do see a lot of saws in for repair and servicing. There are a lot of people out there who depend on someone else to take care of their equipment for them and I am happy to do it. It gives me purpose ☺️
If a chainsaw could talk the stories it might tell Perhaps tales about the trees it was used to fell The Birch, the Maple, the Beech and the Pine Or maybe about the owners who treated it fine They disassembled and cleaned it after each use And did not subject the chainsaw to dirt and abuse It might also speak of the owners who were to it cruel Who neglected loving cleanings and fed it dirty fuel The owners who never sharpened the cutting chain Adding to the engine’s work load and making it strain The owners who thought service was a four letter word That created down time and unnecessary expenses incurred How did a chainsaw go from performing well and working ok To end up left in a dumpster at the end of the day? Thankfully there is Erica a "Chainsaw Whisperer Extraordinaire" Who can maybe save it with some parts and loving care Will this saw be resurrected and brought back from the brink of death? Stay tuned to Married With Small Engines to see if it breathes another breath!
While it would be nice to hear it run, he'd be crazy to put that kind of money into a dumpster find. All the parts you listed doesn't address the lite scoring and the reduced compression. And you haven't factored in labor. He'd have 500 plus into a 30 yr old saw.
Erica, LTR is the manufacturer of the gauge. Pretty sure that many videos ago, I saw the name of Druck on your tester. They would be the manufacturer of the tester and they just use LTR for their gauge since they don't manufacture those...similar to Stihl installing others' spark plugs. Look closely around the Druck name and you should find a model or part number. Druck is a good company. Or at least they were, but they since been acquired by GE.
What a shame. In the end someone has to make a decision! Is it worth the expense of saving? If it were me the answer would probably be YES! Lynton G4XCQ

May be a good idea to check out both 026's and swap parts back and forth to see if you can get one running before calling the dumpster diver....
Absolutely, I thought about the other 026. I will look it over , but it is not Arctic so the handle won’t work. Maybe the other 026 will be a good saw. Time will tell!
I was at our township cleanup days and there was an older guy there about to throw his stihl 045 chainsaw in the bin I quickly said don't throw it away it's a stihl so he handed it to me and said you want it I said yes do you know what's wrong with it he said will not start ok I brought it home checked it out put a chip in it runs awesome
when you pulled the spark plug it dry no fuel
That’s right! The saw is sucking air through the intake boot.
I have two 024 that really need attention, but I never seem to get around to it.
Might have something to do with watching youtube instead...
Yuck! I’m hating what ECHO is doing with their outside facing clutch’s. Great video though, lol keep it up!
Did you run the serial number thru the dealer network?
Yes, but often times these older units have no records. I could call Stihl and ask them, but they are going to get sick of me really fast! Lol
@ post the numbers you have here and let the internet sleuths give it a go!
more plaid 😁😁😁😁😁

Anyone know the still part number for the intake block off ?
I am working on a tool video 😊
I can not believe how many saws you have for repair if one buys a saw, he/she should get to know it, I do all my small engine work the only reason I go to small engine dealers is for parts, I can't order online
We do see a lot of saws in for repair and servicing.
There are a lot of people out there who depend on someone else to take care of their equipment for them and I am happy to do it. It gives me purpose ☺️
If a chainsaw could talk the stories it might tell
Perhaps tales about the trees it was used to fell
The Birch, the Maple, the Beech and the Pine
Or maybe about the owners who treated it fine
They disassembled and cleaned it after each use
And did not subject the chainsaw to dirt and abuse
It might also speak of the owners who were to it cruel
Who neglected loving cleanings and fed it dirty fuel
The owners who never sharpened the cutting chain
Adding to the engine’s work load and making it strain
The owners who thought service was a four letter word
That created down time and unnecessary expenses incurred
How did a chainsaw go from performing well and working ok
To end up left in a dumpster at the end of the day?
Thankfully there is Erica a "Chainsaw Whisperer Extraordinaire"
Who can maybe save it with some parts and loving care
Will this saw be resurrected and brought back from the brink of death?
Stay tuned to Married With Small Engines to see if it breathes another breath!
Wow, wow, wow! :)
While it would be nice to hear it run, he'd be crazy to put that kind of money into a dumpster find. All the parts you listed doesn't address the lite scoring and the reduced compression. And you haven't factored in labor. He'd have 500 plus into a 30 yr old saw.
If that was my saw, I'd spend the money. It's a fairly rare model.
Erica,
LTR is the manufacturer of the gauge.
The maker is Leitenberger (abrreviated to “LTR” on the gauge). Druck just means “pressure” in German. They have a website.
Druck is German for Pressure
That fuel looks like ATF to be honest.
What a shame. In the end someone has to make a decision! Is it worth the expense of saving? If it were me the answer would probably be YES!

Serial number doesn't give the year?
If it does, I don’t know how to read it
