I really feel like Doja alienated her fanbase, tried to create a whole new persona, and really emphasized her being "edgy" only to release music that is honestly not that different than her music before
My 4 yr old niece, who enjoyed the radio/clean versions of a couple of her songs, also enjoys the radio version of paint the town red. Because the music is the same. She just wrapped it up in different packaging
Coming back to this video after she just posted a pic of her wearing a shirt with a neo nazi on it. I can't even imagine what corners of the internet she must frequent to even get a shirt like that. Lets be honest with ourselves.. Doja is an incel, 4chan poster. Its getting very difficult to separate the art from the artist. She's barreling towards a Kanye West type of downfall smh
When Doja was 19, people were less socially aware in general. People who are Noahs age are also more digitally literate and he grew up in a time where concerns about privacy are more talked about
@@almamater489posting a funny convo you had in DMs with a fellow celebrity and saying slurs (and keep in mind she didn't stop saying it) are two very different things.
@@almamater489that made no sense. How is being 17 more mature than 19. And no. You don’t have to follow a crowd. You can easily not say slurs. Trying to be a good person does not mean you have to see others being good to do the same.
I’m one of the fans that used Hot Pink to get through a breakup and was hurt over her saying it was a cash grab. It was a big reminder that sometimes we have to appreciate art not the artist.
Same and agreed! Hot Pink & Planet Her were some of the albums that helped me get through break up and also just made me feel good/happy. Appreciate art, not always the artist.. and honestly i've been feeling that way for quite a bit since I never kept up with Doja til few months ago, it was unavoidable on twitter and even now.
Im sorry but thats what most artist do, why would you be dissapointed. I dont even like doja cat but an artist job is to make you feel something through Music and she did her job.
@ilovegot7754 I can no longer enjoy the music, the same as before. Same can be said of other artists/actors I can't in good conscience fully support anymore. How good of a "job" did she actually do? Maybe it's asking too much of artists to all be decent human beings.... but the value of the art DOES go down, with certain "revelations." Just a note.
Yes!!! Hot pink was the reason I left a very very toxic relationship and now I just feel embarrassed being a fan cause she hates us so much. I just CANT listen to her music now cause i felt almost manipulated by her in that scenarios. Made huge life decisions just to be laughed at by the person who helped me make that decision. Still very grateful!! She’s so incredibly talented and deserves success to reflect that talent It just changes the music for me though
I was understanding with the "I dont love you guys", but what made me fall out of love with her is her handling with the allegations of her bf (or ex bf) when she literally made a whole album about woman empowerment
ok. and women dont need it at all? you can't even touch her heights judgmental about something you barely get. (im telling you right now you can never be in her situation who are you to judge sure stop listening to her music but posting public she should have released specfic music?? go say it to her then) i love doja ive been listening to doja since before nintenhoe. your wrong for this.
So, like… can we admit Doja Cat has always been footsying with Nazis now or are we supposed to pretend her wearing a shirt featuring a white supremacist was another “out of proportion troll”…?
The stuff she does is a desperate attempt to be accepted and the reason it doesn't get called out is because she isn't a "male" doing this stuff so it gets downplayed to trolling.
Not to mention that She's pushing 30. No normal almost 30 year old celebrity would be going around trying to "troll" their own fans that are mostly teenagers. She truly is an incel Edit: for y’all in the replies getting mad at me cry about it. She’s an incel weirdo idgaf lmao
@@pill1154 You spelled insecure wrong that's the only reason someone would do that she's ashamed of who she is. That's called seeking validation but I'm sure someone like you know all about it.
Wait, so she wants to be excused for things she did at 19, but is holding a 17 year old accountable on an adult level? This young lady seems to not have matured fully. Perhaps she is very confused and conflicted.
The idea that people’s brains definitively mature at 25 is based on bunk science, but for some reason people keep repeating it as if it’s fact. Your brain is developing and maturing your entire life; there is no singular, definitive age that you’re fully mature and developed.
what’s interesting to me is that she’s been degrading her old music but at the end of the day YOU’RE the one who’s making the music and not taking pride in your own work😭

Honestly the amount of times Doja has been associated with Neo-n@zi stuff is too many, on top of inappropriately dunking on other serious topics way too many times. The chat-room fiasco even removed from the exaggerations was already fool-me-once. The fact that that situation is one of the few times she took things seriously from the beginning makes all of the other times after look even worse. Yeah, she’s always being unserious, but being unserious about serious shit isn’t excuse-able. It’s giving “why can’t you take a joke.”
yeah, where theres smoke there's fire, and this video seems pretty biased tbh. I'm sure it's not on purpose, but I think there's such a thing as giving someone too much benefit of the doubt. When you subconsciously overlook things that are red flags and hand wave the problems people do have along with the petty/silly things people don't like her for. I personally unfollowed because I think she has a big head and is trying so hard to seem like she doesn't care that it's working too well and seems like she *really* doesn't care about anyone or anything. She's got some growing up to do
The way Doja Cat is trying to use the satanic panic for her persona is basically the exact opposite of how Lil Nas X used the satanic panic in his music. When he utilized it for Montero, it was meant as him reclaiming demonic imagery after having it be used against him for his sexuality all his life. He took all the claims about how being gay was against God and took it to its most logical extreme. Doja Cat isn't really saying anything with the imagery, and whatever point she might've been making (fame is like selling your soul to the Devil yadda yadda) has already been said and done in more creative ways.
Agreed. Lil Nas X's "Montero" was filled with symbolism and was actually interesting in its hellish imagery. The man is smarter than people give him credit for. He's also funny.
Exactly and instead of her facing criticisms it's like she warped herself down into it all. Her use of devils isn't artistic nor symbolic, it's more like "Yeah I've changed, thanks for noticing. 😈" along with "Is this what you all wanted? I'm such a bad person let me show it in the most edgy way possible." as if taking some sort of pride, when really it just shows up as an edgy teen phase. It's so embarrassing. If you're going to use an oversaturated concept at least transform it somehow or don't use it at all, sheesh.
First of all saying owning demonic iconography by queer people is new is an uneducated statement. Queer history is full of it (not that Lil nas is unoriginal. I love the dude and that era of his music). Secondly the insinuation that iconography in art should be tied to someone's life and trauma is just bad art analysis. By that logic you would think Lovecraft was called cthulu in his middle school. Thirdly, the songs were bops and the marketing is awesome and that's art and your opinion is wrong
@@MissFunky98 Yeah, also Lil Nas X is also.. likeable?? He just seems like a funny but overall well-intended dude. Doja on the other hand.. man, reminds me of 4chan a bit. lol.

My biggest Issue with Doja Cat is that she did all this "No more trash basic pop!!!" edgy "I hate fans i hate pop culture!" mumbojumbo Just to release the same ol music she has always released but wrapped in a red/black/bloody package lol

i really don’t even care about the rest of the “controversies”, even her hating on the fans, but her blocking a victim coming out against her boyfriend just made me want NOTHING to do with her. i could pretty much forgive anything else, but blocking victims is just not something i could ever look past
I'm GENUINELY curious about other people's opinion on this matter because I can't settle on where I stand on it. One one hand, that guy definitely did abuse his influence, but on the other, as D'Angelo said, he hasn't since (as far as we know). We obviously don't owe him anything, but if he did "grow" from it or whatever, and Doja Cat can see that, what is she supposed to do? It's really easy to say "I would break things off immediately" but I'm just not sure everyone calling her out would actually do that IRL. They know each other on a much more personal level, so while we can publicly refuse an apology or refuse to give him any kind of platform, I don't think anyone (aside from the people involved) can make a FULL judgement on it. I don't know what I would do if a person I really seemed to like was being called out for past behavior that has maybe been worked on since then. I feel like if she wrote a long explanation saying how he's changed or something would just yield the same response and wouldn't really convince any of us that he's a better person now. Blocking is pretty aggressive though.
@@JV-vc1zfyou don’t “grow” and then block and silence the VICTIMS. Not the onlookers but the actual victims. That shows they have no respect or remorse
Exactlyyy if she wasn't just blocking all of the people who tried to bring it to her attention. Like over smth serious like this she could've at least said "thanks for bringing it to my attention, but he's not the same anymore." if he was better. Like girl it isn't that hard to handle it in a better way 😭😭
i definitely wish we had more information on the whole situation, we’re definitely missing pieces of the picture here. however, his actions were bad enough that he did come out & issue an apology. if he is remorseful & has changed his behavior, i don’t think his past should be held against him forever (as long as he didn’t assault anyone, but i don’t think anyone accused him of that). that being said, if a victim comes forward to you for any reason, you should at least hear them out. doja could’ve offered a simple “that’s not who he is anymore” or “i don’t condone grooming” vs literally BLOCKING them & going on to call others miserable hoes. you can let your fans know you’re disappointed with their behavior or that they’ve overstepped your personal boundaries without being hateful J cyrus also could have stepped in at any time to come to his own defense side note: TWENTY or more women came forward, that’s a lot of people! i can’t be for sure, but it’s likely that there’s more victims who didn’t come forward. this is someone who has affected a lot of people. his victims at least deserve to have their voices be heard idk, i’d definitely like to see if anyone comes forward with any screenshots or other evidence (not that they owe us that)

She sent DMs to Noah knowing he'd answer her and get a kick out of it because she's a star. That was her flexing power from the start. Why the hell wouldn't he share that nonsense?
I was always confused on how she couldn’t find Joseph quinn insta bc it’s literally his name. Also how she chose to message the youngest of the main crew who is still a minor rather than the other adults. It honestly seems like she knew Noah who is the most active on the Internet and when she messaged him she expected him to give her more information such as maybe Joseph’s number or something more bc she this big celebrity but then he said the obvious thing(dm Joseph). So if anything seems exploitative or a power-play to me, it seems her choice in choosing noah of all people to message.
Doja needs to realise she’s not the first and won’t be the last. She’s slapping this “alienated” and “estranged” label on herself when in reality… she’s not really stirring the pot. She’s not political, or attempting to communicate a greater message - it’s all identify and “me” - nothing wrong with that, just not groundbreaking. Respectfully, she needs to log off and/or grow up a bit.
So true. My sis got upset and told me she unfollowed her and I'm just like, nothing she's doing is surprising or interesting. Lil Nas X was literally just doing that the previous 2 yrs and many artists before them have as well. I honestly think she's going to look back and be a bit embarrassed tbh.

The rest of Scarlet is a mix of genres and definitely not pop. You have to have a few radio-friendly songs just to keep the label happy, which is why Attention, PTTR and Demons was released first…Think about it, if she released Scarlet first instead of Hot Pink, she wouldn’t have blown up. But now she has the recognition and accolades she can do other things and not worry about making money for the label. This is why most signed artists have a banger album then a filer album and people say they ‘fell off’.
I’m not religious but I kinda understand why people are fatigued with the demonic imagery in the music industry; and it’s mostly because no one is doing anything unique with it. It’s literally just black or red demons running around and nothing else. Say what you want about Lil Nas X but at least he did something different.
Yeah thats how I feel about it too. Like okay, demons. What's the reasoning for it? With Naz it was symbolism for his Sexuality and how he felt shame for it before accepting it. It was nice and fresh and wasn't just doing this to be edgy. Can't say the same for doja tho..
also because it’s so shallow and almost always completely missed the point. artists try to switch the narrative about selling their souls which is just a metaphor for sacrificing their integrity for money and fame, when in reality that’s not something to be proud of at ALL. so much of it is rooted in capitalism and materialism and i’m tired of seeing these brain dead idiots bury the point beneath shitty music videos and cash grabs on tiktok. embarrassing.
I feel like Doja's Cat's career started as one giant practical joke that involves her being like "what, that s*it worked?!" and escalating to see how much she can get away with and still make money.
It can take very little effort to make something pop off. I was a member of JCyrus' twitch community at the time of the big collapse. I was not one of the women he solicited nudes from/lead on, nor was I in their close social circle on discord, but I can tell you a little about what it was like there. It was safe, like a warm blanket. Everyone knew everyone's names, not their screen names but their NAMES. You'd show up and say hi and everyone would greet you like Norm from Cheers, including Jeff himself if you frequented the stream enough. It was full of lovely, kind people, and Jeff took advantage of this. He branded himself as a safe person, because look how safe and inclusive the stream is, right? He always made a point to thank us for being so wonderful, sometimes cry (probably crocodile tears in hindsight), and always always ALWAYS thanked his mods... on stream. A close friend of mine learned from one of the mods that he would frequently have them on discord calls screaming at them... these sweet hardworking people volunteering their time to moderate his chat. ALL behind closed doors, of course, so we all thought he really loved and respected and treated them well. We thought he was a genuine, trustworthy person. And then the women started coming forward. And it felt like the world falling down around us, because during covid we would all come together and spend all day at the stream or in his discord. Many of the victims of his mistreatment have private twitters with the exact details of their situations which I will not air out as many of them wish to move on with their lives, but all share a common thread of being made to feel special, to feel CHOSEN, and then used for their bodies one way or another, then dropped like a bad habit as soon as he was done. I've seen these women - they are all incredibly conventionally attractive. He is or at the very least was a manipulative snake who will NEVER regain the trust of those who were there when this all went down.
I was in his community too, it literally was a punch to the gut when we found out what was happening. Just wanted to let you know that I'm here and thank you for explaining this whole weird, upsetting situation from the perspective of Jeff's former community. Sometimes I see him streaming and it makes my stomach actually hurt. Sometimes it was hard not to feel sorry for him, but really I just feel pity. He took advantage and would've kept on doing it with the excuse of his mental health in his back pocket. And with the way he came back, and the way he's letting Doja defend him knowing he was in the wrong, it just lets me know that he was never sorry in the first place. He never learned a lesson and def never worked on himself.

doja desperately wants to pretend her music is edgier and grittier and deeper than it is- it’s different flavors of sparkly pop music. i won’t dock her for wanting to take things in a direction she’s more passionate about, but i just think she almost regrets what she’s already created for herself, her sparkly pop fanbase
Regret 7 billion views on TH-cam? Billions of streams and millions of dollars? 😂 I think not. Doja cat is a troll, if you choose to take her serious I feel like that’s your problem, because she’s the most unserious person on earth. 💀 Sure her fan base annoys her, because they act like their entitled to her entire existence but, so do Cardi’ fans annoy her, SZA fans occasionally annoy her and many more..
I even like most of her music that I've heard, it's just absurd to watch her do this schtick of pretending her music is something it's not. She's clearly aware of it on some level what with the "it's gonna be a german house/jazz/rnb album" bit, but at the end of the day, under all the layers of irony and trolling- it does seem like she enjoys the type of music she makes, but wants to make people believe it's more countercultural, because she dislikes the fan base she's accrued. That's just my take though
I am still waiting to hear anything other than sparkly pop from her music tho 😂 the problem with her is she can't correlate between what image seems cool to her and an actual music style to fit it. She just makes regular pop.

The whole Doja satanism controversy is funny because there are underground musicians who are far more serious and open about, it but the types of people who actually worry about that stuff live in a bubble so their only perception of satanists are celebrities who act weird for attention.
It's such an old little trick, too. The Beatles released Nr 9 after their fans thought Paul died and if you play the track backwards, nr 9 sounds like "turn me on dead man". You missed her ranting when her fans didn’t come wait for her at her hotel after a hurricane when she cancelled a show (even though they were all there the night before as the hurricane started). She’s been very annoying to her fans for a whilllleeeee so the fan reactions you’re seeing isn’t based off just one faux pas.
I also agree with this, when he said he wasn’t bothered at her not liking her old music. It’s not the fact that she doesn’t like her old music it’s the fact that she disrespected the fans who liked it and said they fell for a cash grab as if she wasn’t crying when she won awards from said cash grab. I also dislike the fact he didn't put that portion before the "unwarranted rude fan comment" The fan probably said that because doja had already just called her fans music taste trash and wasn't feeling her "antics" and really thought she was just being rude. The fans comment isn't really unwarranted when its put that way. If made no sense or am wrong let me know.
Doja’s “Mediocre Pop” rant is giving Cole Sprouse’s Tumblr Social Experiment reveal. There was also a TH-camr by the name, “Stuff with Scoutfly” who also acted like Doja and dissed the fanbase that he grew. If someone doesn’t want to interact with their fanbase, then they should do so without insulting and humiliating their existing fanbase. If anything, this proves that not everyone should read the comments or other responses.
@@tsundor1 Back in the 2010s, Cole Sprouse had a tumblr blog where he made posts and interacted with fans, and later on, he abandoned the blog and revealed on his twitter that his tumblr blog was a "social experiment" that he made as part of some college assignment and everyone got mad at him for it. Then he clapped back by saying how it's their fault that they fell for his experiment or something along those lines.

finally someone bringing up that she's SOOOOOOO INSECURE like it's crazy how insecure she is & her behavior shows it 😭 everyone's just saying "she clearly doesn't want to be famous." no, she just is insecure, miserable and probably going through some mental health issues.
100% my opinion on her, so glad someone else said it. she needs to get a good therapist and get off the internet for a while, like her entire personality is based on shitty 4chan and reddit threads and "it was a prank bro!!!". she needs to stop being so defensive and find her actual personality that isn't """trolling""" or mocking/shouting back at women who had been abused. that's not funny and it's not ~cool feminist empowerment~ or whatever shit her fans have said about her behaviour. I'm older than her and was essentially raised on the internet, too, but somehow I managed to grow out of my edgy teenager phase and realised I was just being a little shit to everyone. I actually don't think she has any interest in quitting. She has done none of the work or commitment to quitting - if she wanted to do so, she could and would. Of course she is super famous but if she just decided to be a recluse, invest her money and never make music again, another version of her will pop up in the next few years with a different twist on it. Doja is insanely talented but the world is huge and talent is (almost) endless. There's tons of poor kids around the world with more talent than her that we never get the privilege of hearing. The reality is that Doja doesn't want to stop being rich and influential (and I don't blame her). All of this is a farce. Otherwise, she wouldn't constantly be on live and doing crazy things to gain attention and profiting off the new Satanic Panic. She knows what she is doing and she doesn't want to stop being in the limelight, she is just insecure. Ofc none of us actually know her but based on what I've seen I think she's super friggin insecure & defensive and I think she doesn't view pop music as good and valid music (SO untrue) because she spends her time with edgelords who have probably convinced her that the fact that a bunch of GenZ girls and gays love her music means it's garbage. This is why she has started hating her fans and saying she wants to make 'real rap'. She's insecure.@@sillycheese301
It’s wild to me that she went off about how she hated her pop tracks and wanted to deviate from that and made her fanbase feel like shit about it, then subsequently came out with a song that sounded similar to what she claimed she hated. Whats more wild is that her pop tracks were unique for pop when they came out. Say So created a trend of pop songs with a similar style.

I kind of just always thought she was annoying. Her online persona was not my cup of tea and that's okay. I think where she gave me the ick was her blocking victims, and blocking people genuinely concerned about that man. But then turning it into a crusade about parasocial relationships to take attention from that seemed very pointed. Then going on a rant, where it wasn't troll/meme, she seemed very angry, about how some of the artist she likes does horrible things, and she doesn't care about the horrible things, she can still enjoy all of it. It made me think of all the people defending her for working with Dr. Luke, when she pretty much admitted there she didn't care in the first place. But again, I was not her fan, I thought some of her songs were catchy, but she's kind of just to annoying to me personally at this point. I think everyone has a ridiculousness threshold. This in combination of how she was with that kid from Stranger Things, it's just not for me.
I was OK with the trolling and hyping her new music up to be something completely different from what she was doing before, it was funny. But like you said, the blocking victims thing, calling Noah a "dumb kid" and etc, was weird...
As far as her blocking people on twitter (I'm not sure if she blocked any of the actual victims, the girl D'Angello showed in the video didn't seem to claim to be a victim, she was just giving her account as a minor who was in the community), with how many people were going nuts and lying about the situation it would've been very hard for her to know who was telling the truth and who was just insane. I don't quite think it's fair to expect her to comb through the tweets of everyone she wants to block to make sure they're telling the truth when there were likely dozens of accounts she blocked. But her initial response to being called out for saying the f-slur was INSANE. The following responses really just read like pr to me, and the fact that she defended her use of the f-slur is utterly absurd, and by far the worst thing she's ever done.

It's one thing to clearly note the level of impact things like colorism does even up playing into the favor in Doja in these scenarios, catering to a f*tish fantasy of alt-right, neo-nazi time and time. The shirt might stand against it, but the shirt itself never did showcase that it said that phrase which continues to support the profit of her catering to this group of people. Furthering other incidents that include using alt-right, neo-nazi terms about Black people dying at the hands of police brutality as a song title that even if wasn't the intent highlight a dichotomy where Doja seems to constantly profit of her Black and Jewish identity solely for the the gaze of neo-nazi and other people willing to support racist ideologies for nothing more than pretending she's making a deeper commentary not... enabling these people to treat these groups worse.
Doja is just more proof that "cancelling" just isn't a real thing for celebrities/influencers. Between the edgy nonsense, the racist chatroom shit, and literally dating a whole ass predator (also blocking the victims), she's still getting numbers one while the same (pathetic) people in her fanbase she insulted defends her like crazy. I’ve been a fan of Doja Cat since before “Moo” and her music meant a lot to me. It provided me a fun, lighthearted energy at a difficult point in my life. So, to hear her tell us all it was a cash grab and we “fell for it” was really disheartening. Also, when she teased that her next projects would be work that she could actually stand behind, I was expecting something deep. So when she popped back out with the same “cash grabs” with spooky visuals, I was confused.
As a rare individual who has been following Doja Cat before her Moo song blew up, none of her current actions came as a surprise to me. Many of us know about her antics on 4chan and problematic past.
her new aesthetic seems totally harmless to me but the reception to it being so bad is also unsurprising. on one side of the fence there's the tiktok conspiracy theorists who are pretty much a lost cause at this point. on the other side there's the alternative people who are sick of the style being picked up and dropped with the trend cycle regardless of its history or music or politics. it's brainwashed people vs gatekeepers tbh

at first i respected doja more because she actually challenged the parasocial relationship between a pop star and her fans by saying she doesn't "love" her fans because she doesn't know them. But then it turned sour
Right? Could have become a really interesting and insightful conversation about how tempting it is to fall into parasocial relationships with public figures, how misplaced those relationships are and how much pressure they put on that public figure to be 'perfect' in some way by putting them on a pedestal / suggesting that they're somehow no longer 'normal people' like the rest of us, which I can only imagine would really mess with your head. It could have become a nuanced discussion of what a celebrity owes the fans who gave them their success, what boundaries public figures can demand for themselves, etc - but instead, here we are. Pretty disappointing outcome from what could have been a really beneficial conversation that would no doubt have received widespread engagement and prompted lots of people to critically engage with how they participate in fan culture for potentially the first time...

in some way, Doja's rise to fame reminds me of Lady Gaga's debut. they are both extremely talented and make earworms that are begging to top the music charts, but they also have a particular skill of memeing themselves into being the hottest topic of conversation. Gaga did it with her crazy outfits, and Doja does it with behavior on social media. the main difference is, Gaga was always over-the-top theatrical so it was always pretty clear that she was putting on a performance, while Doja seems to be a genuine troll. she has perfected the art of stirring up drama and using it as free publicity. the downside is, she tends to get lost in the memehole and the lines get blurry. it's sometimes hard to tell how much of her trolling is performative and how much is a defense mechanism to protect herself from crazy online fans (and haters).

Pretending her behavior is any deeper than her being immature and insecure and thinking being a dick is funny does a disservice to artists. She doesn't have to say she loves her fans but she cannot just pretend they started it. Just kind of cringe, as someone who really enjoys the alt scene and use of religious imagery as metaphors. She's trying too hard.
It’s crazy how this drama simply doesn’t exist for people who aren’t terminally online. I asked my mom and my brother’s fiancé both about this and neither had heard about any of it. I want what they have so badly.
I haven't either lol I only knew her through the Say So hit song from 2020, mostly through outside references, and that was it. Her entire stage personality is very much tied to internet culture and, even though there's nothing inherently wrong with it, it ends up being very contained within internet circles and apparently within her own fan base.
I didn't know about most of it either lmao, I'm online I just don't have Twitter and never use Instagram xD The only thing I was aware of was the Noah Schnapp because I watch Stranger Things 😅
Glad you brought that up, because back in the day when music and movies became a big commercial business, record labels and movie studios realized very early on how important image and perception was to their bottom line. They used to do everything to control the narratives about their stars, and that's when PR (public relation) became a crucial thing for them. It feels now that with the advent of the internet, that model seems to have been totally neglected. Investment in artist development is nonexistent, and we see the consequences when everybody has their own platforms.
I got her confused for a totally different singer (tbf I do that a lot because many singers basically have the same vibe) and I have not listened to her music at all, but the clips make it sound generic and not interesting for me personally 😅 I’m always on YT!

That one was puzzling to me for so many reasons when the usual generic statement would have been sufficient. The 3 days she stayed in Paraguay she never said hello or something to the people stayed to receive her (before the storm happened). Nobody complained about it, everyone agreed it wasn't a big deal if she didn't wanted to come out the hotel to say hi. The problem started because Doja complained saying "nobody was waiting for her", that they didn't welcomed her and I think even called them like 'fake fans' AFTER all the storm thing, after people lost family, their house, mascots, etc. One of her tweets also was worded inappropiately, looking like if she was mocking people for 'drowning'. At the end she just blamed Paraguayans and played victim, saying she would quit music because of them There was also videos of people who worked at the hotel she stayed and said she especified she didn't wanted them to look at her directly at the eyes. But this one could be fake tho
@@_makocap_3562 I don't think she was in Paraguay for a full 3 days. Also, wasn't there some famous blogger in Paraguay that posted something fake and people thought it was Doja? And when she saw people attacking her she was confused and clapped back and made things worse. Then somebody started calling her racist but I think it was probably somebody in the US and not Paraguay. Either way, I don't know if it was ignorance or lack of experience on Doja's part and her people not saying something like Miley and MGK did.
All i'm saying is if she wasn't beautiful and skinny people would not have allowed this sorta behavior, like "oh she's the anti-pop star" and "she's ONLY in her 20s" like as if she can't be an amazing artist and fashion icon while also being chronically online, manipulative, and just flat out mean.
The lyric that’s always bugged me on Paint The Town Red is “I don’t need fans, cause my boo like it” (it presumably being her new music or behavior). Like.. Doja, sweetie…. Your boo is a big reason why people are mad
Funny how this appeared in my recommended right after she posted a pic where she was using a shirt of a neon*zist, at this point I think that we'll probably need a sequel soon...
Doja´s success right now is due to controversy. That will not last long. Hate watch is only temporary. When you are disrespectful to the people who listen to your music and follow your career, your success has an expiration date.
I’m wondering if she’s gotten to Chris Br*wn level where she can do literally whatever tf she wants and will still have fans/be able to sell concert tickets
I agree that what she’s said isn’t good for the long term. But who knows, maybe she doesn’t intend on having more than one more mainstream era. Let us also not gaslight. People have definitely bullied her and created narratives about her with little to no evidence. It’s not a surprise that she would lash out considering her personality type. It’s certainly not mature. But we need to stop acting as if it’s happened for no reason.

Well said. It is just shock factor without the substance, like jump scares in crappy horror movies.
Exactly and instead of her facing criticisms it's like she warped herself down into it all. We obviously don't owe him anything, but if he did "grow" from it or whatever, and Doja Cat can see that, what is she supposed to do? I don't know what I would do if a person I really seemed to like was being called out for past behavior that has maybe been worked on since then.
Say what you want about Lil Nas X but at least he did something different.

also because it’s so shallow and almost always completely missed the point. artists try to switch the narrative about selling their souls which is just a metaphor for sacrificing their integrity for money and fame, when in reality that’s not something to be proud of at ALL. so much of it is rooted in capitalism and materialism and i’m tired of seeing these brain dead idiots bury the point beneath shitty music videos and cash grabs on tiktok. embarrassing.

Azeliea Banks moment
This needs way more likes! I didn't know I could hate the man any more but damn he is DISGUSTING
I’m glad I read this reply and was actually able to see the full story behind it. I decided to unfollow Doja because of him but to know that he treated women like that and essentially broke down an entire community of people and Doja deciding to stand beside him is sickening
@fluxonite4254 My online friends are way better friends than my irl friends who live no more than 20 minutes away with me yet never bother to even text. Having online friends is completely normal and not "incredibly unhealthy." Sounds like you've never had the pleasure of developing strong relationships in small communities, especially ones built off twitch. Friendships made from twitch/discord communities are not the same as Stan twt friendships. Discord essentially becomes a group chat with all your friends n acquaintances. doja desperately wants to pretend her music is edgier and grittier and deeper than it is- it’s different flavors of sparkly pop music. i won’t dock her for wanting to take things in a direction she’s more passionate about, but i just think she almost regrets what she’s already created for herself, her sparkly pop fanbase
she doesnt regret those pay check lemme tell you that
Regret 7 billion views on TH-cam? Billions of streams and millions of dollars? 😂 I think not.

I actually don't think she has any interest in quitting. She has done none of the work or commitment to quitting - if she wanted to do so, she could and would. Of course she is super famous but if she just decided to be a recluse, invest her money and never make music again, another version of her will pop up in the next few years with a different twist on it. I NEVER defend people with allegations like Doja Cat unless it’s very specific misinformation or I am VERY sure what I’m talking about because every single person like her is skating by on the benefit of the doubt… the allegations about the internet chatrooms were WAY more serious and documented than he lets on in this video but you have to be on some truly bizarre places on the internet to see them. Of course he wouldn’t know! He has a life offline.

Not to mention all the people who collabed like how rude to Nicki, Ariana, the weeknd, Rico Nasty, Smino, Gucci Mane the list goes on 😂 I don't think any of them signed up to make a mediocre cash grab
@@thefelicitsexactly dude like god forbid ppl listen to music for fun sometimes? idk why she had to dog her own albums as if anyone was even being that picky abt it
@@thefelicits I'm also sure all of the people you listed understand the qualms of trying to establish as close of a true-to-self identity when there's millions of strangers attempting to definitively do that for them. In other words, I'm sure they understand where she was getting at and you probably care more than they do.
The following responses really just read like pr to me, and the fact that she defended her use of the f-slur is utterly absurd, and by far the worst thing she's ever done.
yea I was trying to explain why she was off putting to someone, but I forgot about the blocking thing, and just felt so terrible because I couldn’t remember something super important.
so i watched this video and was like "fair points on all accounts, i think i'll give her new album a listen eventually" and i'm glad i didnt because now she posted a selfie wearing a shirt with a neo-nazi on it, deleted it, cropped it, and re-uploaded with eyerolling emojis. like some of the things i was able to get past with your explanations and specifications, and at this point i think it's clear she just........ is not a good human.

I thought the shirt said "Sam Hyde is a terrorist" tho? Isn't that the opposite of supporting...
IDK how to feel about all this tbh. I feel like I did agree with all his points, but at the same time he did leave out some stuff like when she said she was going to retire music. I feel like she really needs therapy at the least. I will say. I have listened to the album tho and uh. I am kind of obsessed with it so😭😭😭😭😭 damn no distancing for me anytime soon.
@@sprinkles06 "Sam hyde is s terrorist" is a right wing extremist, 4chan user inisde joke between Sam hyde and his neonazi fans. Even if it wasn't, why tf would she wear a neonazis face... she is SO clearly trying to pander to racists. She is a bigot. Don't listen to her music
@@sprinkles06 The problem is none of this is new. This videos coverage of the chat rooms severely downplay the actions and seriousness of the issue; often willing to cater and lean into the the neo-nazi fantasy which has really gross undertones as in 2019 she openly states that she is Jewish.
Unless you do something hardcore and it's proven without a doubt, you can literally just ignore the "cancelling" or even provoke it. They literally have to allow themselves to be cancelled.
yeah i think "canceling" don't work is due to those crazy fans still supporting them. then when they re-brand, the new fans won't know of the controversies. crazy how this works.
Exactly celebrities cancel themselves by how they react to it--move on with your career like Jeffree Star, Shane Dawson, Trisha Paytas, etc. or stop posting and "cancel" yourself. Cancel culture only exists when the person gets arrested.
“The racist chatroom shit” was debunked, as D’Angelo says in the video.

Oh no, the controversies didn't end in 2022. She actually got in a feud with Paraguay fans after Lollapalooza was cancelled because of a storm, where actual floods happened and she got mad because when she was leaving her hotel there were no fans there... to celebrate her, i guess? Wild

If her new aesthetic why not do sm that represents good to most ppl all over globe instead of what’s associated with evil to almost everyone. Your logic is skewed obviously, I’m not religious but this market strategy isn’t rocket science it’s annoying
at first i respected doja more because she actually challenged the parasocial relationship between a pop star and her fans by saying she doesn't "love" her fans because she doesn't know them.
That's what people get for getting attached to an artist to the point of obsession.

in some way, Doja's rise to fame reminds me of Lady Gaga's debut. they are both extremely talented and make earworms that are begging to top the music charts, but they also have a particular skill of memeing themselves into being the hottest topic of conversation.

What happened there?
That one was puzzling to me for so many reasons when the usual generic statement would have been sufficient. Somehow, it seems like in her mind she feels like she's the one being victimized based on how she handled everything.
