I really don't get the hate. This song is fine imo. For people that want old thornhill, there's 2 eps and an LP for you. I've been a fan since TDP and honestly I think the newer stuff is much more vibey and captivating
Also, the hatred is a very small, buy VERY vocal group. Its very obvious majority of thorny fans fw the stuff post tdp when you see them live, people know the tracks word for word, everyone is moving. Even with viper room, that song is sooo much fun live and majority of people seem to enjoy it! Can't speak for thornhill fans outside of Australia but that's at least my experience with thorny!
I got into thornhill with Heroine. First single I heard was Raw. I used to think Heroine was better than The Dark Pool. But then I really got to know the bands entire discography. Everything from 13 all the way now to Viper Room. I know every song they’ve put out pretty well, and while I’m glad Heroine exists and definitely do not think it’s bad, the dark pool really grew on me, and so did butterfly honestly. That set of 17 songs in my opinion are some of their best. But I do love tracks like hellfire club, Hollywood, and blue velvet off heroine. I seem to like the slower songs off that album more, and maybe that’s partially why I didn’t love viper room. It’s got the more upbeat vibe going on. Still neat tho.
I'm going to replay the dark pool and their old stuff and see if it grows on me. Most music like that takes a few listens before I really start to love it
Got into Thornhill when Hollywood released, and loved Heroine once it came out (easily took my AOTY for 2022). Really dig this, especially considering it's similar to Heroine's sound but still different in its own way. Really freaking excited for more!
GREAT song if you are a casual listener, if you are a huge Thornhill fan, you will be severely disappointed. Thankfully I was like you and I never really was into their first album until much later, so I really like this direction, but I can see how some of the hardcore fans would feel if they released this... lmao (100th sub btw :) congrats!)
I made it to 100! I feel like an equivalent to this would be if Chelsea Grin or somebody like that put out a song that sounded like Sleep Token. Like it wouldn't necessarily be bad, just not what people wanted
Its a shame so many hate what they're doing now compared to TDP - Heroin and THIS SONG ESPECIALLY are really good and I like what they're doing now more than ever
I love that they're doing this new thing kinda in between esk, Go explore your own sound, I've been listening to Metalcore, punk and hardcore since a verry young age. These days metalcore sounds so simmular. i love this song
I love TDP I'm one of those who agree it's one of the best metalcore album's, in fact it's my favorite metal album. I like Heroin, it's good for many reasons. It's totally different sonically, but still awesome in its own right. I think it boils down to lyrics for me TDP feels like it has much more thought out and meaningful Lyrics, whereas Heroin is more uh...sexy metal? I think this one in itself is fine. Far from my favorite, but the drums are sick.
TDP is an absolute masterpiece of an album. The emotions.. the tone.. the heaviness.. the lyrics. Heroine felt very much like 'lets do what's popular.' Still love a ton of songs on Heroine.. but TDP is just phenomenal. Viper Room is just harder Muse. It's AIGHT.
I think I stand by my belief that Heroine might be a better album, but every song on The Dark Pool blows Heroine out of the water (particularly Red Summer)
I definitely like it more as an album. I think Lily and the Moon is the best Thornhill song but the other songs on TDP don't hit as much as the entirety of Heroine
Was never a fan of Thornhill, but I dug this song. Gave me Royal Blood/Queens of the Stone Age vibes/Muse vibes.
Definitely not as bad as those Invent Animid fans say
@@coreyclip1 Bloody Invent Animid fans!
@@coreyclip1i love both bands, personally

The vibe-y stuff is what I liked most about Heroine. The melodies on Hellfire Club and Blue Velvet are my favorites

That seems to be the consensus. The haters seem way more plentiful online than in real life with a lot of bands

I love different stuff and I'm excited to see where their sound goes from here

ooooof angry commentsss! nah but seriously they are both great albums I love them equally
I'll have to spin dark pool a few more times to fully take it in
I love that they're doing this new thing kinda in between esk, Go explore your own sound, I've been listening to Metalcore, punk and hardcore since a verry young age. These days metalcore sounds so simmular. i love this song
Exactly. Metalcore is too much of the same thing. It needs some good variety like this

Just a short opinion, this is a song from thornhill’s discography
It is indeed
I think I stand by my belief that Heroine might be a better album, but every song on The Dark Pool blows Heroine out of the water (particularly Red Summer)
I liked it on first listen but it usually takes a few spins for me to really like an album
Thorny are yet to drop a song i dont like yet tbh
Heroine is way better than TDP
I definitely like it more as an album. I think Lily and the Moon is the best Thornhill song but the other songs on TDP don't hit as much as the entirety of Heroine
