I honestly really enjoy when they make weird and experimental stuff. They have become such a unique band over the years.
It’s sounds like Queens of the Stone Age mixed with Muse with a Thornhill twist. I fuck with it haha
Honestly when I separate this from what they used to sound like, I fucking love it ,its only when you label them as the metalcore they use to be it seems off ,but all in all I do like this song
I really liked this new song but nothing tops the dark pool for me
They are never going back to Dark Pool, and I wish people would stop expecting it / saying "it's not the Thornhill we know". Bands change. We need to learn how to separate expectations and give new music an honest chance. So good on you for giving this a go!
Heroine was hard for me to get into. I did not like it upon release. But I gave it another go last week, and while it is by no means their best work, I really enjoy most of it! Except for that vocal effect haha.
This track is groovey and vibey. Fun live. They've been playing another new song on their current tour here in Aus as well, and it's also very groovey, has screams, and some little nu-metal influences. It was great!
First thornhill song for me. I really like this sound so far so sorry for all the OG fans im seeing the comments and yall dont look to happy
@@IfWhatYes one of the dudes in the chat said "i give it a 6, which is about the most i can give for this genre" lmao it says enough about the metalcore audience when they can't even compartmentalize genres
@@FormaAlert yeah, that's the problem with bands who do metalcore and then they tryna experiment. People did the same with Spiritbox's Void and Rotoscope EP for example, I saw a lot of hate that they don't know where they are going with that music and they didn't like it cause it wasn't metalcore LMAO
I'm so glad I am the kind that listens to most genres and I just appreciate good music
I'm just glad they finally mixed the vocals correctly this time. I enjoyed this more than the majority of Heroine.
They said they have done everything the could in metalcore with dark pool.
When you already make near perfection that youd likely never top, why would you try and get a steady decline.
Better do something new and keep it fresh, explore something new for a bit.
I actually really love this new sound! It is VERY Queens of the Stone Age which I am 100% okay with!
Also top tier reaction as ever my dude! 🤘🏻
I loved Heroine, I like this single. Both a clear departure from their earlier albums sounds and that will naturally create frustration with old fans. But I'm here for it
love their whole catalogue. got Heroine at one of their shows and Jacob, Ethan and Ben signed it. Super nice guys.
This song sounds like it could be right off the album Songs For The Deaf by Queens Of The Stone Age. I get Millionaire vibes from this.
I had to give this song a few more listens before I started to love it I also loved heroine and I’m probably one of the few people who liked the distortion on the vocals and how they mixed them and I also loved the more metalcore aspects of heroine and even though Viper Room has took out a few of those aspects I still love it and the overall sound
i do vibe w this. I love the heroine era and I like this vibey grungy 2000s era
Personally some of my favorite Thornhill songs are on TDP but I think I actually connect with Heroine more as a full album. I love the direction they took with it. This new single I don’t hate but the mix is definitely trending a bit more to even less heavy than Heroine and that kinda stinks. I still they’ve got some bangers left in them to write tho so I’m not writing them off yet
Darkpool is my favorite album, and Viper Room makes me excited for whats to come
i love this song sm
This gives me mad Death From Above 1979 vibes with the guitar/bass 👀 I was still into Thornhill when Heroine came out, Hollywood is such a banger, but this feels too much like stuff I listened to in the early 2000s for me. I respect them for doing what they want wit their sound though!
I'm a new Thornhill fan, and I recently listened to TDP and liked it, but Viper Room really hits that "Old School" rock or punk feeling. This song isn't hesitating to be different from their popular stuff and it's EXTREMELY apparent.
Bro Idgaf, this is sick. I love it.
I really love this song; it hits a particular spot for me. Yes, I love heavy Thornhill, but I also love this. Judging this song on its own merits. However, I hope to hear some heavy songs in a possible new upcoming album.
saw them on friday night and they played a new song which was full of jacob screams and a sick riff so there definitely seems to be some heavier stuff coming for those who enjoy it
@@ashleighjane yesss. the whole show was great but that was definitely a highlight a surprising and welcome one too.
This song rules
Watching them perform Viper was something else 😍 but they still managed to get a decent circle pit and the vocalist broke out some vocal fry just to show he still could lol
Super strong QOTSA/Royal Blood vibes.. I'm not familiar with their earlier stuff (first time hearing the band), so I'm totally unbias towards it, and I think it sounds cool :)
The Dark Pool is in my top 5 albums of all time, it is an absolute masterpiece. But their new sound, I'm not sure...
I wish I could get into this new direction but I just cant. I am not sure what it is, I may be biased since I loved TDP so much.
Overall just glad they dropped the staticy vocal effect from Heroine
Yeah the instrumental mix still sounds off to me. Their new song Obssessed is awsome though.
I personally enjoy this song, but to me it feels like they know they cant beat TDP so theyve taken the easy way out and settled with this type of rock music, which is cool. Im a big fan of the neighborhood and I got the same vibes off this
Other side of that is that they're aware they dropped one of the best metalcore albums ever made, so they're just chilling and doing stuff they haven't done before because they might comfortably be able to make an even better metalcore album without trying
This just sounds like a cross between QOTSA and Royal Blood
I mean this song does it for me.
I like it. Reminds me of Muse.
You gonna check out new Rivers of Nihil too??? Also...new Inferi and Darko is about to drop!!!
I really liked Heroine (especially Arkangel), but Darkpool is hard to top!
I feels like their keeping Heroine but more grunge rock perhaps? It's like they added a touch of Cleopatrick in it and love that shit personnaly.
I'm getting used to the new sound and like it but not as addictively as the dark pool
I'm enjoying it - definitely feels like Muse, QoTSA, and Royal Blood had a (less good) baby though.
a bit of muse, mars volta, foo fighters, queens of the stone age for sure
They cleaned up the vocals a lot on this one, so much clearer than Heroine, but not as much as i'd like. I wanna understand the lyrics. Its a darker Arctic Monkeys. As much as I lived for The Dark Pool and what they were doing on that album, I still appreciate and like this vibe from them. 8/10 and hoping for more good vibes
Very much like muse here...
It’s too bad they went this direction with the band imo. I’m sure some fans like it, but not for me.
Why ya'll saying they doubling down on the sound from Heroine. Heroine is like a Deftones - Diamond Eyes sounding album? This sounds more like Royal Blood
new Thornhill has Muse written all over it
The video looks like a wong kar wai film
I think their new sound is like Muse mixed with elements of metal
While I do like their new sound I’m just spoiled in wanting them to return to the sound of The Dark Pool just because that album is so insanely special and unique in my opinion
I liked 4 or 5 on the Heroine album. This is just steps down from even that album. Wish they would just go back to the Butterfly/Darkpool album style!!!
They aren't. But you can still listen to Butterfly and TDP on whichever streaming service you choose ✌️
People can talk shit all they want, but you can’t deny that you could hear Jacob in this song lmao
I get people are upset this doesn’t sound like progressive metal, but this is still a nice sound. Sometimes metal can get boring
TDP was a perfect album, in terms of unique, fresh sound, in terms of topics they brought to their lyrics, every track was something special, this is bleak to me, Heroine lyrics basically were about the same thing, it is stylish, for sure, can give them that, but from this point i have less excitment for their further music
Yes! For me, one of the most disappointing things is how shallow their lyricism has become. Like you said, They just talk about the same thing over and over now, where they used to talk about all kinds of things.
people saying this sounds like 2000 alt rock as a complaint and that they prefer 2019 metalcore thronhill witch sounds like every other metalcore song ever from that period is insane
yall have bad taste in music
this over whatever old music they have
In my humble opinion it’s a good song but not quite their best song overall it’s catchy song it won’t get a high repeat I was iffy if I wasn’t gonna like this gave me queens of the Stone Age and the instrumental break was cool overall in my opinion it’s 3/5 that’s my take on it.
They are trying to hard to sound like Muse and I don't get it. They had such an amazing and creative sound With their first two EPs and first album why they went so far different. Maybe music was to hard to write with their style before? I really deep down think they believe they are being creative with this different style, but it just comes off generic and unmemorable. I sometimes have issues with some metal not having much replay value, but there sound was crazy catchy for what it was before. I listened to Heroine once and have never heard it sense.
Pretty obvious why Matt Van Duppen (second guitarist) left the band. I believe he was also their manager
They’re going simplistic and mainstream, just like Hands Like Houses did. 😵
I personally don't like the direction Thornhill took with Heroine, and this song, I think nothing will surpass The Dark Pool. also the Butterfly album is 🔥
i do not get why people like the dark pool so much, maybe i just don't like metalcore that much idk. Heroine is really good imo though, Raw is peak.
Not a fan of their new sound. It made me forget about them. If they are true to themselves then good for them if they’re happy. I’ll just listen to their old stuff.
It’s like watching someone who had it all going for them sell out to become something smaller but they’re happy. Part of you thinks it’s a shame but ultimately if they’re happy, they’re happy. Thornhill were my next favorite band and now I don’t even think about them🤷🏽♂️
Like. Making the art they want to make instead of what fans want or what would sell is the antithesis of sellout
Breaking news, changing your sound because you aren't interested in making the same music anymore is selling out. Crazyyyy
I actually quite liked Heroine. Had to grow on me but I am glad it exists. The Dark Pool and Butterly will always be their best work in my mind, it’s some of my all time favourite music. Though heroine is still great. But viper room got me sorta worried cuz I don’t like the direction it’s going in. If their next album is going to lean more in that direction I’m worried I won’t like it. Cuz I don’t like Viper Room much at all. It’s not awful or anything but I listened to it like once or twice and I’ve had my fill. I don’t need to listen to it again. Which sucks cuz I was very excited for it when they announced a new single. I wanna love everything these dudes put out, but I just don’t unfortunately. Kind of a bummer ngl
I did not like the song at all it’s forgettable and not going on any playlist of mine. Their last album was a no for me as well. It sounded like arctic monkeys or some British pop song
I only liked their EP lol havent been a fan of much they have had some good songs here and there but as albums as a whole I havent enjoyed
I think this could be a shorter song. They REALLY need to go pop because they have awesome ideas.
it's a grower same as herione
Very very bad, i don't like the new Muse direction style...
Caught their biggest headline show ever this past weekend, in their hometown for good measure. This and the Heroine songs are MASSIVE live. The heavy parts in Casanova and Arkangel stood out far more than almost anything else. There is a seriously great journey to go on with these guys if you can accept that they've actually improved as musicians and songwriters. And that takes absolutely nothing away from how great The Dark Pool is and was.
This! So much this! I caught them at their Perth show, managed to get in early so I was front and centre and the newer songs were amazing live! I was very very happy they played a bunch of tracks from The Dark Pool (personal top 5 album ever for me) but you’re so right about the heavier parts of the newer songs in a live setting were just 🔥🔥
I have enjoyed everything they have put out from the get go and I’ve loved seeing their evolution
I took a friend to the Brisbane show... he gets it now lol
I caught them Supporting 'The Butterfly Effect' and yeah I liked them. Enough to pick up Heroine on Vinyl. However I can't get Scott Wayland out of my head now everytime I listen to them thanks to the shirtless dancing 😅😅😅. Pretty infectious stage presence
Caught them last year, and the end of Casanova was honestly the heaviest part of the show and one of the best live breakdowns I've ever seen
