Bingo!!! Our house was built in 1905 with wonderful detail with large beautiful thick glass windows. The prior owner repaced the windows on second floor approx 20 years ago. Now after 20 years the "new" vinyl windows are shot; foggy and will not stay up if not locked. The remainder of original windows are still intact and just require some love and attention that I have found in your videos - including DIY storms. Great info in a very organized format. Keep the info coming.
Do you have sounds entering in the windows from outside?
He makes some good points but most older homes in Florida are block with aluminum windows. Wood is not an option. The aluminum double pane are more prone to leakage. Vinyl is crappy but everyone seems to have it for lack of an alternative
We have insulated vinyl windows in our 1956 ranch-style house in the SFR Bay Area. They were poorly measured, poorly made, and poorly installed about 15 years ago but we cannot afford to replace them. (The house probably had aluminum-framed single-paned windows when built.) Now working on insulating the big gaps between the window frames and the window boxes using wood, rock wool, and caulk to tighten them up. What a mess!

The Andersen 100s are also FIBREX and also MUCH cheaper. Home Depot sells and installs them.
Some of it is Fibrex , they are builder grade windows , also , HOME DEPOT ?!?!?! They use ANY guy that has an LLC . NY neighbor had home depot put in a patio door BY A PLUMBER . LOL
@@JayCWalkin Windows are different, they don’t use any day laborers, the installers have to pass background checks just like a HD associate.
Plus they are NOT builder grade windows.

You are so right!!! I just my vinyl n they SUCK! We have already issued n they were installed 2 month! N yes the insulation suck too!! I’m so upset now, I regret it! 😞😞😡😡😡 DON’T BUY VINYL!! I had to call the company already, n I assume they are going to tell me is nothing they can DO! Where is my old windows! 😩 btw... I thought it was going sound proof n guess what no difference from what we have!
Vinyl window frames leak sound from outside do they?
Not mine. The double hung has made the home quiet and we don't get noise from the outside. That's an improvement in itself. Love my vinyl windows. They are 4 years old and I have seen a great improvement on my utilities and the winters are warmer. I also appreciate the cleaning and the clarity with views when I lift my window shades. I also love the night stops. I don't worry about leaving them open all night and day when possible. I also enjoy opening the windows from top or bottom. I was ready to throw out my wood windows when I first moved in. 😂
Pella just replaced my windows and what a nightmare! big dents all over outer frames
upon installation as well as dents in screen frames!
If pella did the work you should have a warranty to cover all that. Call them up! That’s why you pay a premium

They are not the same as RBA windows. Installation absolutely matters.

Agreed, I'll only use Andersen or Renewal by Andersen. Our apartment has old Andersen Narroline Double Hung Windows. They're over 30 years old and they're showing their age and blow in air, but both sashes move up and down just fine. I'd rather have my old Andersen Windows than get a plastic window.
