Gorgeous rendition - just recently I saw a TH-cam of the two of them singing it - from 40 years ago. Beautiful then, beautiful now. GMCLA and the kids from the Creative Planet School for the Arts - what a genius pairing of stunning voices - passionate and dignified and touching. Thanks.
Absolutely brilliant. I'm blessed to be friends with a few members of LAGMC. and, as a member of the NYC Gay Men's Chorus, I proudly salute all of my fellow 'brother in song' on this beautiful work of art. Bravo!!
This came up in my recommendations in the week that innocent people were murdered in Copenhagen, Denmark, and at an Independence Day parade near Chicago. Since this performance, how many have failed to listen to the message? How many have died because of that failure? Will humanity ever learn the lesson that peace is the way forward? This performance is a touching tribute to innocent victims across the world.
As a former singer of GMCLA I offer a little history to add to the video description. The Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting occurred on Friday, December 14th, 2012. That evening the chorus went through their dress rehearsal for that weekend's holiday performances. This piece had been planned months in advance with the children from the Creative Planet School of the Arts. When we got to this part of the rehearsal many members of the chorus, including myself, broke down in tears realizing how very poignant and significant this part of the concert was after what had happened and it was decided that Peace On Earth would be dedicated to the children whose lives were taken that dreadful, awful day. As you so very well pointed out, it seems that we still don't seem to be able to learn from the past.
Incredible! This is so beautiful! We were so very fortunate to be there and witness this incredible performance! It was so powerful! Thank you so much for giving us a wonderful holiday memory that we will cherish always. And, for providing this video on TH-cam. It is so very gracious. Thank you all! RIP to the victims of Newtown and victims of violence everywhere.
"Peace on Earth" was originally written for David Bowie to sing as a counterpoint to Bing Crosby's "Little Drummer Boy." Bowie performed it first. It's mentioned here to differentiate it from other songs called Peace on Earth.
it didn't go over my head...I just interpreted it as written. The written word can never be interpreted the way it was meant. Thank you for explaining. I am a member of this chorus and I guess I got a little defensive. I'm glad you thought it was beautiful. It really brought the house down.
Bowie's appearance with Bing Crosby has been described as a surreal event. See wikipedia[dot]org/wiki/Peace_on_Earth/Little_Drummer_Boy for the backstory. Watch youtube[dot]com/watch?v=DiXjbI3kRus for the video.
Why dont you think before you write, rather than saying "just kidding" as though it was OK in the first place. So "God" hates us, huh? and he doesn't hate YOU for being so cruel? That was a despicable outrageous thing to say.

David Bowie and Bing Crosby. My favorite Christmas song of all time. Thanks for the beautiful tribute with such a beautiful song.
That was beautiful. The Crosby/Bowie version has been my very favorite Christmas song ever since it's release. And you all really nailed it.
I'm speechless. Standing ovation guys and kids.
Thank you, Jeff. As a member of GMCLA, we do what we can to help others through our music. Happy Holidays!!

Search for David Bowie and Bing Crosby.
Okay on my 3rd time and I could use a tissue.

Beautiful ... but, uh, what does David Bowie have to do with it?
Where was God in all of this? Right here.

I believe in democratic republican government. I do not sing praises to any god , lord, or king... thank you!
