I wanted to tell people about the per-hit durability because I didn't hear anyone else talking about it, and depending on how you play you might not go into the caveling areas before you start farming.

Durability is not that a problem. 4 wood -> wooden pickaxe -> destroy -> spare part -> repair your best pickaxe or armor. And root seed gives infinite wood.
