Blue Beauty Anole (Anolis equestris potior) - Care and Breeding

  • The Anolis equestris potior is the crown jewel of my collection. By far the rarest and most beautiful species that I am working with. The number of people breeding them in the United States can be counted on one hand. That will certainly change in the future as this is a very hardy species that breeds readily under ideal conditions. They are one of the largest species of anoles and by far the most colorful. Their care is not advanced and they are not delicate animals.

    I am a herpetologist in Cuba, I know the species in the wild and I have a captive pair in outdoor vivarium (1x1x1 m). Very enjoyable animals indeed. Glad to see you don't have obese animals. I would very much like the hobby not to genetically degenerate this species because, although it is considered a subspecies of equestris, its limited population has a high evolutionary significance and it could still be considered a good species in the future. Perhaps it is good that there is a captive population (although the first animals were illegally collected from Cuba), but that some aberrations due to artificial selection and inbreeding do not start to appear as is typical in the hobby.

    Awesome Video!! Thanks for the shoutout to David (my fiancé) He has worked so diligently with this species and they mean a great deal to him. As I can tell they do you as well! Hope we can meet up someday!

      Ok, so not long ago I got a knight anole, not a blue beauty unfortunately. But he is wild caught of course, and he’s like a bearded dragon. You won’t believe me when I say this, but he’ll let me take him out all the time, usually no problem

    If only leap habitats made a bit more variety in sizes. The 22x17x36 is pretty solid by all means but I feel like a 30x18x30 would be pretty much perfect. Would be easier than a 36H for temperature control and with the extra 8in in width that would be tons of extra room to move around and get comfortable.

    Fantastic video! Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge so others can learn from. How do you get air flow in the tank so it doesn’t become stagnant with the high humidity?

    • @LivingArtbyFrankPayne
      @LivingArtbyFrankPayne  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! The top is all screen and the bottom front panel is screen. This allows for excellent air flow via the chimney effect. As air is heated toward the top of the enclosure it rises up and out pulling fresh air through the bottom front panel, constant fresh air while still maintaining humidity. :)

    What's an appropriate size enclosure for a breeding pair indoors? And can a 1.1 pair be raised up to breed in same enclosure or should they be separate and only put together when breeding ? Tbanx!!
