    Here in the Philippines, we also have several species of flying lizards. The common species here in my hometown is Draco mindanensis or Mindanao Flying Dragon. People catch them because of their ability to cure tuberculosis and pneumonia, which is a myth. They boil them and drink the water.

    So, I live in Indonesia. I remember when I was a kid, me and my dog caught a draco in the woods near my house. One of the most beautiful animals I ever seen in real life.

    Wow those are cool it would be awesome to keep one in a huge enclosure where you could see it jump and glide between branches

    Thank you! I almost worked on the biophysics of these guys and came across draco about 20 years ago when I did field work in Malaysia! So cool.

    They are absolutely gorgeous. I wouldn't dare try breeding these but I would love to have a sociable adult

    Great video! I totally agree on your husbandry and care, however I might provide a little less strong uvb. I used to keep these and got to hatch the eggs of the females that came in gravid. Hatching the babies is not difficult (as you explained) but the care is so hard. I think the key for succes in keeping them hydrated and providing stable high temperatures. I'd love to give this species another try in the future for I believe they can make a great addition to the hobby. I hope you can keep us posted on your findings!

      Thanks for the tip but the uv provided is still so much less than they would experience in the wild. I do make sure to provide plenty of shaded areas where they can completely get away from it if they choose.
      I do think my temps may be too cool at night for them but I’m not sure of course.

    I have a 150 gallon tall aquarium 48x24x30. I am considering angelfish or a rainforest vivarium. I don't have the time for a reef anymore. I have a daughter entering high school next year. This would be a dream lizard with a Mist King setup and a ton of live flora; only if they / it would parachute / glide. I keep bonsai, orchids, and have a beautiful Border Collie. Animals and plants are my passion other than my family. Do you have any experience with seeing them in captivity with a setup as I've described? I would obviously put months into establishing the vivarium.

      Yes. They open them to bask and do occasionally glide when jumping.

    Frank I see your website says you are no longer working with this species. Why is that?

    • @LivingArtbyFrankPayne
      @LivingArtbyFrankPayne  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Basically because they haven't been imported in years. My adult breeder females which were WC passed away from old age. If they are imported again I will start up with them again. I do have several CB males that are making great pets for some of my customers still.

    How can we tell if it's male or female

    • @LivingArtbyFrankPayne
      @LivingArtbyFrankPayne  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Males have a thickened tail base due to hemipenes, a gular flag, and a more robust head.
