Do you have to put up some sort of collateral for them to take out the margin difference or will the IRS send you a letter in the mail like I don’t understand how they’re going to take your money if you don’t have anything for them to take if you’re borrowing the asset in the first place

Good to know that there are exchanges that allow this. Even if I never short crypto, it's good to know that shorting is an option; if all exchanges prohibited short-selling, there would be more opportunities for insiders to "rig" the game.

i wish I had shorted bitcoin when it was in the 60k range.
You know what shorting btc reminds me of ? The Simpson's when homers banging on the food truck saying " weres my burrito weres my burrito" and the awning come loose and hits him in the head. The reward for shorting is just not worth it the maximum. Win is still just a whole burrito.

The second I buy a position it drops. It never fails. I am cursed. Everything I touch withers and dies. I am a plague. I am death. I want to learn how to short. I will be unmatched. Now that I know I am a piece of shit, I want to use that against itself. The only way I can make money is through the short.

Great content. I’m used to TradeView soooo much easier than Etoro but Brokers allll suck for small accounts.

Theres major shorting on all the altcoins forgetting BTC for the moment. The question is how n where n on what exchanges is all this shorting being done? And why don't exchanges allow all tokens be shortable, if they aren't shorting these themselves? Who can answer this question? (I'm talking about ALGO ZRX REN etc on n on)

Alt-coins can also be short traded by large institutional investors but this is unlikely, IMO because only bitcoin will predictably rise after a short spree. And even if they did go down in price with Bitcoin they will all move up again with Bitcoin. In any event, they probably won't be viewed as being worth the trouble.

Moral of the story don't go shorting around
If everyone would long their BTC, we would't have any flow, any transactions and the price would collapse. The easiest strategy is to hodl - true, but there are people, companies who can squeeze millions from short-selling.
You might have used this opportunity to explain the practice of simply doing a sideways move from bitcoin into a stablecoin like Tether as a hedge against price drops.

This is what i was thinking and is it possible ?
Example,
Buy 1 bitcoin at 30k
(Price goes up a little bit)
Sell at 31k
And buy again bitcoin when its around 30k... which leaves me with the 1k profit from first trade.
If you do this 3-4 times a week with profits between 500-1k thats 4-5k profit every week and IF the bitcoin will crash real hard you still gonna have the profits there. (BC wont crash ever bitcoins is to stable with to many and rich investors).
