I watched several videos about short selling and I got the idea of what it is and its purpose but not how it is actually done and where the money to buy the stock is coming from. After watching this video I understood everything. Thank you for a good and to the point explanation.
This is the first time.... its May now? This is the first time Ive actually UNDERSTOOD what happened with gamestop. You are amazing. Please please make more videos.
Thank you for the upteenth explanation on how to short stock. I have to relearn how it works every time because the down side (which you describe so well!) is so massive I automatically brain dump the info so I don’t do it. I’m much happier just buying and holding.
THANK YOU! You finally gave me the missing link to understanding this! I was missing that when you short it, you immediately sell it and use it as leverage.
How did you learn so much at such a young age, my dear lady. I am a theoretical physicist and hardly know much about the topic you have covered. It has been in the news for the past three days. Now I know what was all the news about! Thank you.
Wow, I finally get it now. Cnbc and all the so called "experts" being interviewed in the media should've just called you to explain it all...So really though, what's a stock?
Thanks for the explanation. I am not a “short seller” but I like learning more about it and hearing other people’s thoughts and opinions about the subject. Keep your insight coming! Love your channel! I’m following!
I've watched video after video on short selling, and this is the absolute best explanation of short selling and how it works. You also just gained a subscriberrr...Thank you!! 🌠
Great explanation. How long can the short seller wait before paying it back? can they wait as long as they want until the price goes down or is there an expiration date?
Perfect! That part about what the broker does was what really helped me to get my head around this. I couldn't figure out if the one that shorts actually owns the stock after he bought it. Best explanation about shorts I could find.
Such brilliance from such a young person. Wish I had such a fund of knowledge when I was that age. And so articulate! Best explanations I've found anywhere on the internet; so thorough and easy to understand. Really impressive! After 40 years of investing I think I still don't have as clear an understanding as this young lady does of trading. Guess I'm just not as intelligent as I like to think I am.
Can you put a STOP LOSS ORDER on a Short Sell Order? If so... How do you go about it? As opposed to a STOP LOSS that STOPS and SELL... Does it STOP LOSS at the price you set and... BUY to COVER ???
Amazing video, perfectly explained and I took multiple pages of notes and spent multiple hours writing all of this down. Again, great video and thank you!
You're awesome! I wish I had known about your channel sooner, I would be in a better position with AMC. Thank you for making such quality video explanations. Can you share with us, how often these shorts need to be covered? Is it EVERY week, Every Friday etc? I know they only have certain # of days to make good on them but they are cheating with these short ladders. Did the squeeze happen already? I see charts and graphs that it's not over yet - but hedgies are keeping the price low with their black magic - the free market is being stunted, big time. Any additional info is appreciated. I'll be over here holdin' the bag awaiting your reply. Thanks again. Peace!
Remember arvabelle you didn't cover this for self directed traders you must have a margin account to short sell not a cash account your a excellent tutorialist and watching you all the time..
Is it reasonable to keep the short for overnight or several days? Or that it is for day trade? Thanks And I would like to compliment that your accent is so easy to understand!
Ive seen a few of your videos now and definitely a fan. You break these topics down very clearly. Did you study Finance in college? How much of this is personal learning? What other businesses do you run that has given you insight into these discussions?
Smart guy to short Tesla. That was my plan! Is there an alternative to shorting that removes some of the extreme risk but still allows you to profit from falling stock? Or is regular long positions in the competition the only safe alternative?
Brand new to the stock world and just subscribe to you bcuz you’re really helping the most to understanding this stuff anyways ... question tho? So when betting that the stocks will drop is it a certain time limit to the drop? Meaning is it immediately when it’s dropping or does have to stop below the market price for a period of time?
This is the one topic that made me feel pretty stupid for not understanding it. I love watching videos on things like quantum mechanics, but I just couldn't wrap my brain around this concept until your video. Thank you. During the housing bubble, I mused that I would love to sell our house to a bank at the market price with a contractual obligation that we had to re-buy our house at the market rate 18 months later. As it turned out, the bubble burst four months later. So in effect, I wanted to short my house. We would have made more than what we initially paid for it. The one question I have is why would someone lend a stock? Would it be that it's value is going down and the borrower would be on the hook for the losses incurred during the loan period (providing a respite to the lender)? Can the lender ask for it back at any time? Again, thank you!!!
Actually that's a very good question! That's another danger - the lender can ask for it back at any time, and a broker can force a short position to be closed. The lender would be benefiting off of the margin interest & borrowing fees, which is why they might lend it in the first place.
I have twice been long on two stocks during short squeezes this year, 2021. In both instances I had 300-500% gains and certain that AFTER THE SQUEEZE, I will be able to buy back at a much lower price than I sold for. When I sold, during the wild price fluctuations I LADDERED my shares with LIMIT ORDERS in small lots RATHER than selling all at once and certain I gained thousands more than trying to determine what the high might be. I try to buy in the same fashion, just be patient.
Hi and first of all thanks very much for the explanation video. Just one question, is there any rule as to when you need to cover your position after borrowing the stock ? I mean, does it have to be by the end of business day or any time ?
I'll be interested to find out the result of the SEC investigation into the trading brokerages and clearing houses (specifically, their vested interests). Will there be a determination that hedge funds and other entities were performing "naked" or synthetic shorts on stocks such as GME, which was exposed by the WSB revolution. Also, will this continue to have a cascade effect across the market; impacting investor sentiment about the integrity of our market.

I love how you explain so clearly. So many people talk so much around the topic, it gets confusing. I'm a fan!! Keep doing what you do girl.

You have such a wonderful way of explaining things in a really simple way. Thank you for sharing!! Have a wonderful weekend :)
Thank you! You too!
perfect and easily explained. I watched 10 videos on TH-cam but was confused. thnx
I watched several videos about short selling and I got the idea of what it is and its purpose but not how it is actually done and where the money to buy the stock is coming from. After watching this video I understood everything. Thank you for a good and to the point explanation.

Beautiful Explaination! ☑️ Excellent Presentation!☑️
Thank you for the upteenth explanation on how to short stock. I have to relearn how it works every time because the down side (which you describe so well!) is so massive I automatically brain dump the info so I don’t do it. I’m much happier just buying and holding.
well explained , thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
THANK YOU! You finally gave me the missing link to understanding this!

you.
thank you so much
I wish from you to do another video talking about fidelity platform strategy
Thank you Arvabelle for explaining this to me like I'm 5. This is the only video I've found that didn't use technical terms.
This is the clearest explanation that I've seen about shorting stocks. Much appreciated!
Of all the videos on shorting I’ve seen, your explanation was the best
Oh and btw, this was the best explanation on the subject on U-Tube IMO
Thank you for making the subject so much easier to understand in plain English words.
Wow, I finally get it now. Cnbc and all the so called "experts" being interviewed in the media should've just called you to explain it all...So really though, what's a stock?
They are the one's that are shorting companies that is why they spoof fud and degrade companies relentlessly
Youre an amazing teacher
Thanks for the explanation. I am not a “short seller” but I like learning more about it and hearing other people’s thoughts and opinions about the subject. Keep your insight coming! Love your channel! I’m following!
It's definitely good to know how other aspects of investing work!
So, to short a stock is a fools errand. You can win a little a hundred times, but, if you short a stock that goes to the moon your broke ass.
I've watched video after video on short selling, and this is the absolute best explanation of short selling and how it works. You also just gained a subscriberrr...Thank you!! 🌠
After watching the video about limit and stop limit I had to subscribe. Easy to understand straight to the point keep up the great work.
Thank you!!
You did a really good job being so involved in this video but you can explain everything
Great explanation. How long can the short seller wait before paying it back? can they wait as long as they want until the price goes down or is there an expiration date?
Position has to be paid by margin call
Loved the video!!
After 12 videos I finally understood what short selling is.
This is the best explanatory video on short selling I've ever seen! You've made it so simple to understand. Thank you!
i really do like how this young lady does her presentation. make it so easy for me to understand trading
Perfect! That part about what the broker does was what really helped me to get my head around this. I couldn't figure out if the one that shorts actually owns the stock after he bought it. Best explanation about shorts I could find.

Retail Markets needed this. Thank you girl!
Haha you're welcome!
Probably among best explanations on TH-cam. Great videos...
Can you put a STOP LOSS ORDER on a Short Sell Order?
If so... How do you go about it?
As opposed to a STOP LOSS that STOPS and SELL...
Does it STOP LOSS at the price you set and... BUY to COVER ???
Thank you, very clearly explained. We watched this after seeing the “Dirty Money” episode on Valeant and the people who shorted it.
I've seen other videos with millions of views and they don't explain as clearly as u. Great video
In one word - Brilliant!!! The most simplified and lucid explanation of an abstruse concept. Keep'em coming!!!
Best explanation!

Clear and concise as usual, thank you Arvabelle.
My girl back at it with a new video!!!! This Friday just got better!!!!!
Haha thanks!
You are super amazing in simplifying and explaining seemingly complicated hard to understand ‘things’. Thank you.

Great video. Question: can a stop loss order not sell it early for you?
looking for that answer too.
Amazing video, perfectly explained and I took multiple pages of notes and spent multiple hours writing all of this down. Again, great video and thank you!
That was an excellent breakdown of shorting. Thank you.
you are amazing!!

Great explanation. For how many days can one hold position in short selling?
This came at the the right time ! Eye opener. I hope I never do short selling in my life.
It's risky for sure!
Love you AB for explaining it in simple terms, can you maybe make a video on best crypto wallet and exchange application.
Remember arvabelle you didn't cover this for self directed traders you must have a margin account to short sell not a cash account your a excellent tutorialist and watching you all the time..
Thank you! I enjoy trading stocks but I want to know the safest ways to trade options. What do you prefer? Going long or swing trading?
Thank you now I understand what is a short squeeze.😁
I had been looking for a clear explanation of short selling and I just got it. Now I know I will stay away from it…thanks!!!
Excellent explanation! Are you primarily a Stock/ETF trader or long-term hold investor?
thank you for the video good explanation , can you do one on call options?
Great explanation!
So how can one protect themselves against price going up when shorting a stock, to limit the loss?
Excellent. Thanks for explaining in simplest possible way.
Is it reasonable to keep the short for overnight or several days? Or that it is for day trade?
Thanks
And I would like to compliment that your accent is so easy to understand!

Smart guy to short Tesla. That was my plan!
Is there an alternative to shorting that removes some of the extreme risk but still allows you to profit from falling stock? Or is regular long positions in the competition the only safe alternative?
Excellent explanation. Right to the point and very clear. 👍👍
Great quality content! You explain things so well. Thank you 🙏
Fantastic way of explaining stock trading concepts as always. Pretty much an ABCD channel to the investing world!!
Very informative. Thank you for the education. Keep up the great work.
I always enjoy your knowledgeable presentations!

@@Arvabelle Thanks!
Great video . Really insightful .
You are amazing with your delivery. Thanks!
Glad it helped!
There was a movie made in the 80s called
Trading Places. Watch the orange juice scene. That is a great example of short selling
I have twice been long on two stocks during short squeezes this year, 2021. Subscribed because of your great thorough explanation. Well earned
Good video. Short selling explained in a simple way!
Excellent explanation!
Very informative! You explain everything thoroughly! Well done!
Glad it was helpful!
Great discussion .. sounds like the "perfect storm" trigger could someday collapse the entire short and long system due to it's inherent design.
What a great video! Very well explained and super easy to understand. Thank a lot... keep up the great work! 👍🏽👍🏽
