You can’t go wrong with either one of these-I LOVE Flight ukes. They’re consistently good quality with excellent intonation and easy playability. They can be used as a primary uke, not just for travel.
Like you I prefer the Tusl models. On my concert I did replace the strings with Martin M600s but the soprano was still preferred sound wise. I do like the concert size but with the long neck version of the soprano there is no advantage to the concert body except possibly that it does not slide around as much if no strap is used. There is also as you say a greater variety of sound board options for aesthetic differences. Both sizes are make nice travel instruments without the worry of damage.
Hi Chris, I enjoyed this comparison. I had been looking at the TUSL Though now I am interested in the TUC. Mainly because its larger body size would be easier for me to hold. Both sound nice in their own way. I purchased a red and a blue soprano for two of my grandkids shortly after they could walk knowing they could handle abuse and still be functioning when they are old enough to learn to play them. They have had them for several years. I may get an Amara TUC so that I will have the "Grandpa" version of their ukuleles. Thanks again for the comparison.🙂
If you do get a TUC, be sure to take a photo of the family with the ukuleles! I need to look at your channel and see if there are any videos that I have missed! I hope you are doing well!
Hi! I love your review. Question: is there a difference between the travel concert tuc55 and travel concert dark blue tuc35 ? Thank you, hey 😊from Canada 🇨🇦
Body & Neck will be exactly the same; the acacia certainly has an acacia veneer, if not made from all acacia (acacia plywood; not solid). The TUC35 will be all linden wood with the grain showing with a watercolor effect. The sound should be almost the same. The difference will be mainly cosmetic.
I also like Flight Travel ukes. I like the feel of them. I have a few "expensive" ukes - $130-200 - (Islander, Koa Kalane/Kaleo, Uma Baby-T) but they just don't make me smile like the Flights do, for some reason. I have a few sopranos in different colors/finishes, a concert, and the KIDZ soprano long neck. I also have an Amahi bamboo, a Kremona/Flight and an Oscar Schmidt OUNDolphin that are pretty much Flight Travel clones, but not as refined as Flight (I bought them precisely because they are made like Flight Travel ukes).🤪

Agreed!

I have now seen 2 break in school settings, and both were repairable without any noticeable damage afterwards. That makes me like the model even more.
