- In this video I show how to install and use the Dremel Keyless Chuck. This is a nice upgrade to the collet and collet nut system and I show the benefits of using the Dremel Keyless chuck. The Dremel chuck works with accessories from 1/32" to 1/8". Thanks for watching!

I'm lost, why use a keyless chuck if you still need to use the wrench everytime?

I asked the same question but, I know they'll call me the angry b man.
Saves the 10 seconds it takes to spin off the nut and change the collet. People have no patience. But I do look at both sides of the sword. If you're somebody that's constantly putting different sizes in and out on a daily basis. I guess those 10 seconds would add up at the end of the day. So it suits its purpose for the right person and job.
@@The_old_grey_wolf Well, another thing you're leaving out is the EZ Twist, since this system completely eliminates the use of a wrench, why do I still need the "keyless chuck"?
I mean, the "keyless chuck, not only does it require key/wrench, it never seem secured you, I've since used it and I can't count how many times it just unscrew on it's own and left a disc spinning at 35k rpm by itself, smh. I'll put in some extra 10 seconds work and tighten things by hand at least, I'll trust my own hands.
If you're familiar with power tools, particularly a drill, you'd already know that a traditional chuck requires a key to tighten the jaws to hold your bit. A keyless chuck requires no key...he's using the wrench to fasten the chuck to the threaded end of the Dremel which is two entirely independent operations. Once you tighten the chuck to the threaded end with the wrench, you'll never have to do it again unless you take it off and reinstall it.

thank-you Ken G. , I bought the 4300 and returned it becuase the shaft turned when openng and closing the keyless chuck, The locking button on tool is hit or miss, and putting the wrench defeats the keyless/toolless change.

can these keyless chucks have balance problems? I have a proxxon and with the empty chuck it has some weird vibration/resonance above 16k rpm, and that doesn't happen with the chuck off
Is it safe to use the larger cutting wheel with the keyless chuck? Can't find anything online about this (although the Dremel website does *not* list it as one of the recommended uses). I asked ChatGPT and it said
"Using a large cutting disk with a keyless chuck can be dangerous as the chuck may not be able to grip the mandrel tightly enough to prevent it from slipping or coming loose during use. This can result in the accessory flying off the tool, causing injury or damage."
But dunno whether to trust it.

Does that chuck make Dremel compatible with standard hexagon shank bits?
Yes, if you have something 1/8 inch or less.
I'm guessing all the keyless chuck does is saves you from having to change collets along with bits because of its range from 1/32nd to 1/8th.
Are these less safe or have other disadvantages compared to using the normal collets. If not why don't dremels come with them?
Hi and thanks for watching. I can't speak to the safety portion of it because I have no idea. My guess for why Dremel doesn't include these in most of their packages is because this is an upgrade that they want those interested to pay for. That is only a guess though. Thanks again for watching!
Why don't all cars come with leather interiors?
The 4 sectors in a collet will center the corresponding shaft very precisely. A 3 jaw chuck may not be as precise- for accuracy and safety always check for runout at the end of the bit and adjust as needed before starting to work. BTW- the wrench feature built into the nose cap (which saves you from having to keept the little wrench nearby) doesn't quite fit the 3 jaw chuck. You can carefully reduce the diameter of the area with the flats by holding a file against it while the Dremel is running. Work carefully and check frequently. If you have calipers, use them to check progess and compare to the collet nut specs as the nose cap DOES work with that.
con i get one that is for biger shanks such as 5/32 and 3/16?
There is a 1/4 in Mega chuck for Dremels on Ebay.

I can see you used the wrench to tighten the keyless chuck I mean, doesn't that defeat the whole idea of getting a "keyless chuck"? I mean "keyless" chuck is what it's supposed to be isn't it? I know people will say I'm crazy now for pointing this obvious cognitive dissonance out. It's like saying I'm the CEO of a company and equally the apprentice in that company.
Somebody please explain to me(God help you) how we're still expected to be using the wrench to tighten a keyless chuck down each time we change bits, I'll wait.

It's not necessary...just like his instruction to turn off and unplug the unit before changing bits is not necessary. I've never once even used the wrench for the standard collet and I use my Dremel(s) regularly for many years.
@@Dayna312 Yes you do, maybe all you're doing is drilling something real soft but, soon as you try cut something tough, your bits might fly off and god knows what it hits. Look, you doubt me, I've got videos on it.
Many times with light loads, finger tightening is all that is needed. Just be careful, make sure bit is in straight (no runout), and use eye protection. Note- the newer Dremels have EZ Twist nose caps (also available online) that do the same job as the wrench and they are already on the tool. They work perfectly with the collet nuts. But the portion on the keyless chuck that has the flats is a little too big in diameter to work with the nose cap. You can put the chuck on the Dremel and carefully hold a small file against that area and turn it down. Use eye protection, work slowly, and measure often (calipers will help gauge progress). Once the nose cap will fit on it- STOP! Now you can retire that little wrench to a safe place!
Doesn't work for me. I can unscrew the keyless chuck all the way off of the dremel and it still holds tight to any bit that I have in.
Mine was locked closed ...right out of the package. No amount of force could open it !
The runout on these is shocking. The collet at least are straight.
