    I have owned the Dremel Multi Chuck for about eight months, and as a professional carver I have put it through its paces. This review is my own opinion on this, it is formed from the style of carving I do which is mainly detailed work, and in no way was this a sponsored video.
    IMPORTANT SAFETY TIP AT (3:56) = Please Note: This happens only occasionally to me when carving, I do a lot of detailed carving. This loosening of the bit may occur more if you use your dremel to aggressively remove lots of material. SOLUTION: You can tighten your multi chuck with a spanner to secure it more.
    Please wear the appropriate safety gear when using these tools.

    Like the video and how you went through things!
    I tried that on my Dremel. I have to say, I was NOT impressed with it at all!!! For the reason you pointed out about the bits coming lose and moving. I was having that happen even on softer woods though. I promptly went back to collets.

    • @MattCarves
      @MattCarves  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Interesting Chris. I use mine all the time, I do always tighten with a spanner though.

    • @therep49er
      @therep49er 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MattCarves I can't remember if I "always" spanner tightened or not. Logic would say I would have ended on using a spanner and when did not work enough I would have stopped.
      Maybe something for me to try again... Or, maybe mine is dysfunctional 🤣😂

    The chuck is fast, but the collets have a design advantage. Collets are very accurate, making runout of a bit almost impossible. A 3 jam chuch does allow sloppy placement of a bit with the attendant runout or possible loss of the bit at speed! The chuck is fast, but be precise! BTW the nose cones on the newer Dremels have a plate inside that can grab the collet nut, acting like a built in wrench, no more searching for the little spanner!

    Matt, that was a good point you made about it flying out. It happened to me when I was carving a celtic heart recently and was using a big cone spear burr. That thing flew off and also messed up my dremel flex shaft. Small warp. Glad it was under the 30 day return. Anyways, I never did find that burr either in my garage and I saw that it hit my glass table and carved out a chunk. It could have been my neck! Anyways, glad you pointed that out and warned your users. I will stick to the basic one in my new flex shaft :-) If I do decide to use this one again, I will make sure it's nice and tight with the wrench.

    Hi Matt, thanks for the info. I still tighten the chuck with the spanner since my flame burr came loose at high speed and bent like a banana before i could shut off the Dremel!

    • @MattCarves
      @MattCarves  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great Solution Claire, I have put a note in the description about this. I have bent a few burr, mainly flap wheels, had some success in bending them back. But sometimes they are too far gone.

    • @clairetolmie5640
      @clairetolmie5640 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I managed to save it by cutting off the shaft before the bend, there's only about 1cm left but it tightens!

    thanks for the video . im just getting started wood carving . i just ordered the kutzal flame burr today . question : i have firewood and there is so much bark on it . whats the best easiest way to remove the bark so i can get to the smooth wood . do you think an angle grinder ? this is all new to me .

    • @MattCarves
      @MattCarves  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah bark is a pain to remove. I use an angle grinder with a kutzall disc. I haven't really removed alot of bark so my method might not be the best or cheapest. I am using it in this video at the start th-cam.com/video/FsskvDK2bMo/w-d-xo.html

      @@MattCarves ok thanks , i went to harbor freight and i bought a 10 pack of burrs /cusps last week. i didnt realize that they wouldnt fit the dremel . they were 1/4 inch . anyway i put 1 in my old power drill today (the old drill with the chord) and they worked great taking the bark off the firewood pieces that im gonna use . and they worked great stripping down the bark on the 7 foot branches that im gonna use for walking sticks when my kutzal flame burr gets delivered . i have a question : (im new to carving) i cut branches off the tree to use for the walking sticks . how long should they dry out for before i start carving them ? or is there any tricks i should know ? thanks man , love your channel !! your a superstar !!

    Thank you Sir ! That's very informative 😊will this take 1/8 kutzall burr or 1/4. Thanks

    • @MattCarves
      @MattCarves  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It takes a 1/8th kutzall burr. I mainly use the 1/8th kutzall burrs they are great. My favorite burr is the flame. 1/4 is to large for this multi chuck and for Dremel in general. Matt

    Good video, but I could not take my eyes off of the drop-cord light behind you that has exposed wiring. Not smart in a dusty environment that all woodshops have, yours included. Might want to replace it before you catch fire, Matt.
