This is the content we need! Everybody has their hard drives jam packed with unfinished great tunes, we need more videos on how to actually complete tracks and get them out there!
So great !!!! Love to see you do this on the fly. In my studio if i do not have that vibe, you are always such an inspiration, and then suddenly my day flows by with playing an tweaking synths. This kind of music, is the stuff that keeps me going, thanks, thanks and that thanks!!!!
Workflow is king. Make ideas. Make them into arrangements. Complete the arrangement with all the tracks / instruments, automation and sections needed. (Track instruments to audio optional. Takes time but has benefits.) Mix. Master. Done.
Quick question - when you mentioned track instruments to audio , you meant to convert it from midi to audio ? And if so, can you please explain the benefits of doing so ? Thanks for the reply, all the best ! 🙌
@@mxeria Its called "Freezing" or "rendering" and saves CPU, it also help prepare your VST / MIDI based sounds for mixdown and eventually all of the channels need to be rendered down to wav / audio stems for mix master anyways.
@@Enders I was not just referring to freezing and rendering. If using hardware, it will also be necessary to track that to audio into the DAW project. Also processing plugins externally brings benefits.
Super interesting approach Ricky. In visual art terms, it's like the difference between painting and sculpting - when painting you're adding stuff, and when sculpting you're taking stuff away.
I always say that making music is like sculpting. Big sledge hammer at first and then a small hammer and chisel for detail, I think Michelangelo said that “The sculpture is already complete within the marble block, before I start my work”
@@nazarartykula401 Yes, there are some really lovely ideas that feed into sculpture, that there's no reason electronic music makers shouldn't borrow. The notion that you are "revealing" the sculpture or song that's already there can also take some of the pressure off the creative process.
Super interesting to watch this since I don’t use a DAW at all. I work in MPC One completely in standalone. I’ll build a two or four bar drum loop. Then double those bars and start making a bass line or melody that runs 8 bars. Double that and add another melody that runs 16 and then just build stuff up on that 16 bar loop. Then once I have a “full loop” I double it over and over until I’ve built up maybe 5 minutes or so and then I’ll mute and and unmute tracks live while the song is playing to build it up and break it down and keep it interesting. Then I work on my mix and export.
My dude I just had to slide through and shout you out for all the dope work you do. I learn so much from your take on production. Appreciate how you're always digging into the craft and are willing to share.
A buddy of mine I produce with introduced me to pressing 0 today actually. It's funny because all this time I would right click the clip and force my dyslexic eyes to find the word "deactivate" lol
Next to Compact Creations these tracks from a loop videos are my second favourite. Appreciate you doing them! I would have liked to hear each element in the beginning quickly on solo to get an idea of the pieces being used but overall it was still a fun watch. Are you going to show us that modded 606 you let us glimpse a few weeks ago?
The struggle of making music for DJs and not algorithms... My last release I just made the single short and sweet and then the other 2 tracks were more DJ friendly lol.

Feels a lot like painting by numbers. Pretty square production workflow for a pretty square result. No wonder people are worried about AI taking over the music biz. When productions are this generic who would know or even care if it was made by a human or not.
This blew my mind as a Reason and Logic guy curious about Live. Your style of sharing is super inspiring, Curious what mouse your using here? I’m looking to get a better DAW mouse from the Apple Magic Mouse. Thanks man 👊

Inspiring piece this week - most of us have some unpolished jems on the drive. Thanks for the roadmap on how to get em polished and out!
always on point with the house music vibes
As always, great stuff, Ricky. Man you really have groove in your soul. 👏 👏 👏
This is great, would love to see this done with a boom bap hip hop track!

Great video. Love watching your workflow. Its what I aspire to
Very helpful video mate. Been listening to your tunes quite a bit lately - Detu being my fave.
Super Dope! 🛸🕺🎛
Ricky, I think you’d really like bitwig. I’m not sure of all the ableton features, but in bitwig you can auto fade those little clips instantly.
Ricky you're like my gateway to production! TYSM ❤
Super loops are life. I make 16 and 32 bar loop parts and then build a whole song off it.
great video, the shaker reverb tip is awesome
... and hit CMD + S every now and then ... 😆
oh, and markers every 8 bars are very helpful
Thanks for sharing the fun ...
Geezer mode! Thank you!!
THANK YOU, Ricky! This is AWESOME!
I mean for a sketch of an idea it’s fine but I def wouldn’t call this finished the harmony never changes in any way
It could actually be a perfect video for Ableton Move

Able, Disable, Undisable, then Redisable
Don't forget to undisenable it
Its the Ableton way!

Cool 👍👍👍
thank you!
wonder how you get that dark theme with these settings?
My life is a 4 bar loop
Ricky find an 6/8 track good sounding mixer and do the summing outside the box, TRACKS ll sound better and u ll have an easy life
my 2 cent
Any recommendations for a good sounding 6-8 track mixer?
