They swept it under the floorboards.
It took an Afro American person, not the rich Hollywood jet set to bring this out into the light of day…
      I wonder why…

I'm so happy that our history and contributions continue to be found and told to the masses. So many of us don't know because our stories were withheld from us. Technology has been a huge assets in finding out what we don't know. As a bw who served in the military I was so proud to see this movie. It was a reminder of where my work ethic and drive comes from. It's in my DNA.

I have someone else now to study.
This woman was born as an amazing person so full of resilience and given the task when everything was against her she showed them as a woman she could get the job down.
She deserves even more recognition for being in charge of so many women.
An amazing feat at that time.

@ The medal of honour is far and beyond the reach of most mortals. ALL the ladies should have been given one and their names never forgotten. The Oscar is a lame invention by Tinsel town that did not recognise Afro Americans along with Hispanics when we were having to take back row and behind the scenes roles for far too long.
It had to take a us to bring this to light.

If anyone ever has the opportunity to visit the woman's museum at Fort Gregg-Adams, I suggest you take the opportunity. It tells the story of the 6 triple 8 and is amazing. It has back stories of many of the units members. And many amazing artifacts like the actual mail bags. The mail sorting desks and even some of the actual uniforms worn by the women.

It’s critical for our youth to hear these previously untold stories. The women of 6888 were not deterred by the task before them, processing 17 million pieces of mail in half the time given them. Three months! They worked in challenging conditions, dodging enemy fire. Thank you to all of the women who served. Special thanks to Anna Mae Robertson of Milwaukee, WI and her children who I had the good fortune of befriending during my college years. Let’s keep these stories alive!

Thanks for the history lesson. To all the women for their service-thank you!. What's amazing melanin cannot simply tell their true story without the whytie role. Kudos to those actors esp. when have to echo the racial slurs.

I wish with all of my heart that our history would be told. I think it would make a difference in school with black students that we was more than slaves 😢

Well alright then. Thank you for your service to the 6888! Ladies, I salute you. I know AIT for some soldiers is held at Ft.Gregg-Adams but I'm not sure people know the history, the important history, behind these bases, being renamed! And for good reason.

The movie was great. It's a bit sad that these women are all gone before the movie came out, but the movie does a great job in putting them in the spotlight. It is hard to watch the way they were treated by some of the white military men, and the way they held their heads up high through it all.

We are very smart and capable of handling any task given us it is a very sad thing that a nation would keep these very proud moments out of the history books, and would only tell the history of slavery,I am sure that was by design.

Since the colour purple I HAVE NOT BEEN SO MOVED.
What a wicked and sorrowful USA was ( maybe today it has not changed that much…) in its treatment to the Afro American.
Being black was one thing, but to be a black woman was even worse back then. Harsh treatment was the norm. Pure ignorance existed and hatred towards them
But as always, the woman of this planet will always rise up, come through and show us men what it is to stand together and overcome oppression.
I thank this woman and ALL those who came together to shine a long lost light on these dear women who made a difference to all the American soldiers, whatever race they were.

And still, you still see some of the white male members of Congress treat their black female colleagues in a similar way. 😡
