    Those machines are huge... I have a 9965 picker and even mine is enormous.. The damage on the back is nothing.. You can repair it with a hammer.. No big deal... Once I had bend the whole basket of the picker because I forgot to close it all the way.. Happy to see other farmers in the same crop as me.. Totally different picker than what we have here!

      That is really hard graft. No cotton here, but I remember pitching hay bales and straw bales up onto the trailer with a pitchfork. If you've not seen it, think "slow motion pole vaulting". At less than five feet tall, and weighing about sixty pounds ( if I was carrying thirty pounds of hay), it was hard work.

    • @southernfarmer
      @southernfarmer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Michael Nichols often times we do, but if there are any muddy spots, drains, rough spots of any kind to cross we go ahead and try not to carry it through them or across them with the picker. Sometimes we would end up on the opposite end at which the bales were being lined up, which would be counter productive. The spear tractor burns minimum fuel anyways. Not really a big deal if the have to go a few extra rounds a day

    • @southernfarmer
      @southernfarmer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adrian Chetwynd many times we get as close as we can to the headland we intend to store the modules at, but many times we are going the opposite direction so that’s as close as we will be with that bale before turning. Also, if there is any thing at all on the edge of the field where you plan to turn and head back you are very limited on turning room with a bale on the handler. Another reason to drop them at “random” might be there may be a drain or mud hole to cross where the handler could potentially drape, or the picker it’s self might strain to the point of losing power.... which is never good, and just another avoidable problem.
