I've had the DT1990s for a year or so. I picked up the 560s on Friday and played using them over the weekend. While I prefer the DT1990s a lot more, by a very wide margin, my takeaway was that if I was playing "competitively" (and by "competitively", I mean filthy casual stuff like The DZ in The Division 2, or free roam in GTAO), I'd probably use the 560s. However, if I wanted to savor/enjoy the game and It's audio, the DT1990 takes it hands down. IMHO, the 560s is like a boneless, grilled chicken breast with a little pepper. The DT1990 is a delicious basket of chicken wings slathered in hearty, spicy wing sauce. One is for keeping you alive and healthy (in PVP), and the other simply tastes (sounds) phenomenal. 😅
I think your analogy is pretty bad. Especially since 560's annihilate DT's in competitive aspect. You can make the bass a lot better on 560s, but by default it is flat for studio mixing. Benefit of this is it benefits competitive gaming not messing with EQ. Treble also helps with picking up things.
Finally a reviewer who talks about his epxeriance with the products rather then putting Cringe thumbnails and either dislikes eerything or recommends everything he reviews. You earned my Sub brother.
@@FreshReviewsYT You are welcome. I just got the ZEn air can and was looking for a good dac to go with where I found your video about the ZEN Dac v2. Dio you ahve any other good Desktops only dac which I can use with it Thanks
Just bought the 560s from Best buy Canada for $199. The DT1990Pro cost basically $1,000 Canadian dollars. I am sure they are amazing, but even if they would have been better in gaming. There is no way to justify 5x the cost for maybe slight improvement. But you said 560s was better for gaming. So good choice I guess. In reality it's not hard to see since Sennheiser is king when it comes to mid-range (not talking price but audio). The mids are the best. Beyerdynamics often have v-shaped sound. Of course not all cans they make. Still.
Amazing comparison, have seen most of your headphone videos and really enjoyed the presentation. Hope to see more videos from you on this subject, would be great if you can do a yearly ranking video of headphones for gaming, like some do with the laptops (S, A, B, C, D, E, F Tier).
It's a relief to hear you say that you didn't get the same imaging and audio separation and being able to pick out sounds with a lot going on with the PC38X. I have those and I feel the same. I just bought the 560s and hearing you say you CAN hear more distinction is great news. I haven't received the headphones yet, but that is what I partly was hoping for. More "clear sound and resolution" of the sound.
@@subarashii1613 honestly fresh is on the money with these reviews. The only thing you should now look out for is "comfort" out of his picks and comfort can be subjective especially if you're getting iems.
@@python5666 i have iems but cheap ones. My fav tarkov streamer was usig 560s i think now hes wearing 64audio iems just just like lvndmark. He said these are far better with footsteps but also can bo too loud some times
So incredibly tempted to pick the 560S up, just worried they won't be a justifiable switch from my old DT 880 (which a lot of people compare it to and say they're similar, but you're the only "gamer-gamer" who actually goes properly into useful stuff like FPS soundstage). I feel like I've only had that true "wallhack headphones" experience once(!) in my life, and that was almost 20 years ago now playing Soldier of Fortune II multiplayer at a friend's house; a relatively cheap Koss headset I had plugged into his little brother's onboard audio(!!) was just insane, I could hear and pinpoint absolutely everything. Never had anything close to that since, and I'm pretty much resigned to not really hearing where anyone is anymore, just using experience to interpolate as soon as I hear anything... Your previous video has brought my hopes up so high by talking about _exactly_ what I've chased for soon plural decades (geez...) and know can be done! So scared of having my dreams crushed and sitting there with two $200+ headphones for no reason 😅 Great reviews by the way, loving the channel. Found it researching the Viper 8KHz and you helped tip the scale towards getting it (and I'm SO pleased with it! ...aside from having to unplug & reinsert it on every cold boot for some reason, apparently common problem).
Thank you! If you get the headphones make sure it's somewhere you can return them if you end up feeling the price point does not justify the advantage! Soldier of Fortune... man that brings back memories haha
Dude I loved your orochi vid it’s what made me order one! This channel is exactly what I’m all about rn. I randomly found it again when looking up this exact comparison and was like (click.)
I have the Sennheiser HD 560 s for my Xbox series X pair it up with a steelseries Gen 2 DAC amp. I am telling you right now in conjunction to the audio EQ tune for FPS and also my Dolby Atmos app on my Xbox that's also tuned. Two words. Wall-Hacks😊... would not have it any other way it is beautifully perfect..😊
I just bought these because of your review. The only thing I dislike, from what i'm told. With the headphone adapter, all my friends can hear me clearly but I sound like I am far away with the mic they say. I might just buy a standing Mic unless theres a way around.
This is amazing, I had the 6xx for a while, looking for an upgrade since I started diving into the black hole. This is what I needed. Appreciate your efforts
560s isnt much of an upgrade for 6xx, most people would say 6xx is better than 560s unless you're a producer or someone looking to not enjoy listening experiences as much and just analyze and interpret audio, depends what youre going for.
@@eggtastic3555 It's subjective for sure. The 560s are MUCH better for gaming when compared to the 6XX, they have better soundstage & imaging compared to the 6XX. The 560s also cover a wider range of music genres in my experience, where as the 6XX tend to be too warm/smooth for genres like EDM/Dance music.
@@Justfillintheblank yeah i got the 560s, theyre okay, i didnt like the lack of bass at first but the clarity and soundstage made up for it, i need to get an amp dac stack to truly make them live up to their potential but so far, with my astro mixamp, theyre not bad.
@@Justfillintheblank the bass issue may have been that i just came off of using a gaming headset, and as you know, theyre known for their iconic "drowning everything out with bass" attribute, but i just used dolby atmos to compensate for it, its perfect on the music setting. Theyre hyper comfortable as well and feel like nothing after a while, the transparency or open backness is the only issue as i always have background noise, i made a change that reduced it but its always gonna remain as long as i have a fan running. I needed to see what the hype was about with audiophiles and their headphones, not bad.
Thank you so much. Literally just order the h560s. I have sone dt990 pro headsets and love em, but i feel in my games like apex, things are being lost in all the action. The fact you are actually showing gameplay and telling us your experience is exactly what i needed.
Really great review thank you. I used to own the DT1990's but now use some Sennheiser HD800S as my main headphones. Funnily enough I used to love the DT1990's but since using the HD880S I went back and they didn't feel open-back, I know that sounds a bit weird but everything just felt muddy or muffled. I'm actually looking for a spare headset to use with my laptop when I am away from home, didn't want to spend anything like I did on the HD800S lol. So anyway I read a few good things about the HD560s and here I am, thanks for the comparison!
@@MadGaming10 hd800s imaging is actually bad for gaming. Don’t make my mistake. It stretches shit so much u can’t tell positional audio it’s over rated. My Pc38x image better than my hd800s it’s kinda lol
@@jasonemanuel9070 I did too man.. a few months later. .. I'm.. not extremely.. but super happy I would say. I think on that budget this is the best option for gaming still. Paired the 560s with ifi zen dac V2.
Great video. Nice to see someone review headsets from a gaming perspective and not purely for snobbish audiophiles. Even though I'm the snobby audiophile ;) Might I recommend giving the Dan Clark AEON Flow RT Open a try. It's planar magnetic and I find the soundstange and positional audio to be fantastic. I can't compare it to the 560s directly, but I can tell you it's far superior to the Sennheiser 58x and 6XX. There is an AEON 2 but I find for the extra price it would not be worth any marginal benefit you might get.
@@ippothedestroyer I have both tygr 300 and dt 990. I'm about to get 1990 soon but I prefer 990 over the tygr cause it sounds more clear and I can pinpoint where people were. Tygr had too much bass for me and it seemed to drown out the treble I don't know. But I prefer 990
@@fitfrek Hmm that is very weird for beyer to call the tygr 300r a gaming headphone. I have a dt 1990, its a very good headphone, very clear. Its great in tarkov.
@@ippothedestroyer I have sundaras and 560s. Go with 560s, the imaging is pin point accurate. I do tend to enjoy the sundaras more for non competitive gaming though. But the 560s is still a great gaming headset just be warned they're very accurate to its source and certain games can be poorly mixed and have way too much emphasis in the treble (probably sound designed for console gaming). In those cases the 560s can sound painful, examples: horizon zero dawn, ori and the will of the wisps. The sundaras have a much smoother high end and can bring down some of the harshness from poorly mixed games. You could also pair the 560s with a hybrid tube amp to smooth out that treble and keep a clean signal.
Your a legend! I've been on the same adventure for competitive fps. So far I've tried dt 900 prox Astro a40 with mixamp Dt 1990 pro Hifiman edition xs Steel series arctis pro. Next I'll try the 560s. Gaming on pc for reference.

Great Review. After my third “gaming headset” tore up and trying some expensive IEM’s I decided to go with just headphones and a stand alone mic. After reading reviews it basically came down to these two and I opted for the hd560s. 80% of my pc time is spent on competitive games so this hit all the questions I had and what I’m looking for out of my audio. Thanks
@@scruffayxd5593 I did go with the 560s and I’m very happy with them. I love the open back and how I can hear the room or noises in my house like if the door bell rang for instance. I can’t stand feeling like my head is in a can with the IEM’s but even the closed back headsets weren’t as bad if they had a pass through option. They are much lighter than I expected to so they don’t bother me at all gaming for long periods. The only thing left is the durability so will see if it holds up over time. But so far they are perfect for me for the price would recommend.
Genuinely curious what "gaming" headsets you went through. I personally have Steelseries arctis 7's that have been run through and am thinking about upgrading. Just worried it won't be big enough difference to justify them, although $200 isn't really that terrible.
As a comp r6 player i will live and die by the grado hemps, the sound stage is much wider than anything i've ever tried (25+) , the bass is there but it is light and tight, the travels and mids make footsteps pronounced and you are able to pinpoint the enemies position, also the 9-10hz peak isn't that much of a issue, unless there are like extremely sharp s's. Also look into iems, the tin T2 are a good starting point, but soundstage is very overlooked in the iem market.
I've been using the HD 560S for siege and they are phenomenal. I have also used the TYGR 300R. The HarmonicDyne Zeus is amazing as well, it's just hard to buy. It's actually the first time I'm hearing about the Grade Hamps you just mentioned. Is there anyway you could compare them to the 560S?
You are making me want to cancel my PC38X order and pick up the 560s. The problem is with the 38x I won’t need an amp at all or a separate mic. I’m on the PS5.
I was almost buying the pc38x after watching a lot of reviews. After seeing his first comparison between the pc 38 and the hd560 I was sold. I personally play a lot of apex and the hd560s delivers perfectly. I’m playing directly in the controller and the sound is loud enough. I must say that i already ordered the steelseries dac to complete the setup for my ps5.
i cant thank you enough for these vids. so valuable coming from someone that actually plays games and is good at them. ive been looking to replace my hd700s and after watching all your vids you have sold me on the 560s.
You need to make a comparison between Sennheiser HD 560S vs. Philips SHP9500 - I think it will get popular as hell. Nobody has really made a good comparison between the two in terms of FPS gaming. :) They seem both to be praised, but there has got to be winner, right? I hope you can point one of them out from your perspective :D
DT990 Pro 250 Ohms are an infallible footsteps detector, precise imaging and effective sound-stage but they need decent DAC/Amp. I use Mayflower ARC MK2 works wonders, but my ears gets tired for its treble.
Very great review, as i was looking for an upgrade to my headphone(cloud alpha) that just doesn't cater to gamers but as someone who wanted to experience sound/music more, im glad I also seen this review that it can also give an advantage in imaging in games!
Can you please do a DT 900 Pro x vs HD 560S? Apparently the Pro X has better sound positioning/directional audio & accuracy so im hoping its even better for esports/comp
I've had the dt1990 in my car for a long time. I own the dt990 pro and the cable is shorted so have been on the hunt. Agree with comments other reviewers don't go into depth with gaming as you did. You just helped me maked my choice. Thank you
I'm not sure if you'll reply but taking a chance. I just ordered the 80 ohms dt 990 pro and am curious if you ended up liking the hd560 s headphones more?
@@davisterisboss3387 using them right now. The sound stage is much better in my opinion. I've had them a little over a year and you can hea everything gaming wise. Sound wise for music and videos are great as well. I'm currently looking for IEM to try as these do get sweaty after long use.
@thebrickelshow5507 Im at the complete opposite of you 😆 I have some iems currently they are the linsoul kz zs10 pro x. They are rather decent for the price. I just miss having a headset. Iems tend to get in the way quite frequently even with an extension cable but have rather decent directional audio. I just ordered a dac amp as I've been having a lot of issues with steelseries Sonar app so I'll be doing some more testing with the iems as well. After a few hours of use your ears will start to ache. Just a heads up on that. Taking them off and putting them back on is a pain as well as you need to twist to fit everytime.
@@davisterisboss3387 that makes sense. I'm still gonna use the hd560s but gaming I wanted to try IEM seem to be alllll the rage. Ha. But I do love these hd560
Currently embarking on the same journey myself! I'm diving down the rabbit hole and from what I've been able to determine, if you like Sennheiser, it would only be logical to suggest the HD800S as the ULTIMATE headset and the Mass Drop 58X and 6XX at alternatives at a killer value. Other things that come to mind are the AKG K812 which is revered for it's imaging, the Koss ESP 950 Electrostatic or a planar such as the Hifiman HE400s for their accuracy and speed, or something SPECIFICALLY tuned for gaming by a company that actually knows what they're doing such as the Audeze LCD-GX or Beyerdynamic TYGR 300R.
58x and 6xx are great music headphones... the 6xx is NOT for gaming. The soundstage is terrible for gaming but awesome for music. The 58x is better, but not that much better. The pc38x kick it's butt. I have all of these headphones except the 560s. I also have the tygr 300r's, akg 7xx, Sivga p-II. The pc38x is better than all of them for gaming. The tygr's are great music headphones, decent gaming, but they are more fun than accurate and you have to really crank them up to hear footsteps compared to the pc38x and the pc38x is much better for fps games.
This is the video I was looking for. I upgraded recently from the HyperX cloud II to the HyperX cloud alpha S, and was severely disappointed with the headset's ability to mix game and chat audio. I'm returning these and was thinking about the HyperX Orbit S (yes I'm a HyperX fanboy when it comes to how comfortable these headsets are) until I heard that you tried them and thought they were too strong in the bass. After watching both your headset videos, I'm sold on getting the 560S and picked up the HyperX solocast mic with boom arm altogether for the same price as the Orbit S. As a computer / gaming enthusiast, I really appreciate your competitive approach that a lot of TH-camrs don't talk about. I play Apex as well and hit masters this season, and have always hated the audio in the game with my current setup. The way you talk about the directional audio coming from multiple directions and being able to hear them all at the same time made me feel like a little kid in a candy store, haha. No other TH-camr talks about being able to differentiate and distinguish sounds when you have multiple audio sources at the same time. I just want to say Thank You for steering me in the right direction!
Nice video. I have the HD560s and it has phenomenal imaging. I wanted to upgrade and tried some headphones but the only one to impress me was HD660s2. The 660s2 is better at imaging in games and provides an extremely precise 3D depth to the audio image. If the 560s is better than 1990 pro for games then the 660s2 is steps ahead of both. Edit: Infact the original HD660s also had stellar imaging.
Fantastic video! Exactly what I've been looking for in terms of a great high tier gaming experience from the hd560s (mainly regarding clarity, Soundstage and imaging). I see you have a specific dac/amp you use and another cheaper one you recommended down below as well. I was curious what benefits these dac/amps provide for the hd560s specifically (regarding the same qualities listed before). I don't fully understand their functionally but I do know that the impedance of hd560s is 120ohm which I've read isn't very difficult to drive/power effectively. Overall what major benefits would be provided by using an external dac/amp let alone one more expensive (like the ones you use/listed) compared to the base motherboard option. Once again loved the video, and will be definitely checking out more on the channel! Also the motherboard I have the aorus elite x570, so nothing special but still a relatively new mid range board (2019-2020 I think, roughly around 200-250 dollars).
I bought the HD560s a week ago. I would suggest the AKG K701 as a possible option against the HD560s. I used it for 4 years now as my main headphone for competitive FPS. They are very close in terms of imaging accuracy. Ofc the AKG has a bigger soundstage, etc etc. The HD560s are better overall for a mix of gaming and Music etc. The AKG are perfect for fps games, but not for general music listening. They are veeeery flat. Try it out!
Hey. I know this is an old video. If u think the sennheiser 560s is good. U wanna hear the sennheiser 600 or 650. They will blow the 560’s out of the water. And even till this day the 600 and 650 is still one of the best in the world. Good video by the way :)
I have 560s. Have tried Fidelio x3, Sundara, k712, DT 1990 Pro, Amiron Home, Lcd1. All using Creative g6 7.1 on PC The 560s is great for competitive gaming, but my god I find them boring. They lack energy and aren't as clean sounding as i like. The Sundaras are probably the best headphones I have heard but build quality, weight and clamping force made me return them. Great soundstage and detail monsters. Imaging was decent. I found DT 1990 pro with A pads and a slight EQ down at 8khz to be pretty amazing. I find their soundstage to be the most natural sounding. They have exceptional imaging as well. No issue telling where people were coming from. Clean. My only issue was their weight as well. I returned because of this but may buy again. Forget PC38x garbage. Cheap build, narrow soundstage (3 blob effect) and insane clamp pressure.
I've tried the pc38x, 560s and sundara. I totally agree with this guy. Pc38x sound awful and feel too closed in for "open back"sundara sounded slightly better in imaging, resolution. And maybe, a tiny bit better in Soundstage. Was it 150$ better? not quite. and the Quality control is what made me return them, Mines came with one side screw already coming undone and since I've heard of the bad quality control. I returned them. Not gonna pay 150$ for way worse quality control (specifically and in manufacturing, build defects) and barely noticeable improvement in audio. In short they sound great, and for sure worth 350$ but hd560s are really killer for 200$ with out the quality control issues.
The HD660s could be better. It has very similar driver. I doubt it's worth paying double, but it's still cheaper than the dt1990. What would be more interesting though, would be to find out how dependent on a good dac/amp the HD560s are. Maybe try a common behringer interface, the schiitt fulla 4 and the motu m2?
@@h4m2_ oh yes that is what I have heard. I have the 770s and wow it really hurt my head initially for many weeks but they’re fantastic now and I believe the same would be with your 990s. Beyond comfort wise, which sound did you prefer out of the two as I’ll be looking into trying open backs? Thanks
@@mbj920 so I had the 990s for a few months and I still feel like this kinda tight compared to the 560s. I am a gamer so I prefer footsteps in the 560s. In terms of music I can't say tbh they have their own signature sound however pretty similar. I find the 560s more comfortable as you can also detach the cable whereas the 990 has cables which if pulled can break the headphones.
I had both of these and somehow I had the totaly oposite experiense. DT1990 were like a walhack for me while the 560s was very good but sometimes misleading.
For me the directional audio in game is not realy good on the DT1990. For music the DT1990 is absolutely fantastic. For Gaming I’m using a Sennheiser HD600. For FPS it’s just way better because of the directional sound. I kept the DT1990, because it’s just too good for music (and well build) to send back. Now I have 2 headphones.
I have the 560s really enjoy the directional audio as well, glad to see the beyer taking the L on this review, it satisfied my curiosity. Now I'm curious how the 800s compares and if the price jump could be worth it from a gaming perspective
I was wondering how the dt990 pair against the 560s for gaming, they're are somewhat around the same price point of each other.. Imo if you using 1990pro for gaming purpose, you better be making those games as well.
They're similar, but different. In my experience, the DT1990 is the Acura Integra Type S to the DT990's is the Civic Type R. They're similar, but the 1990s just look and sound more luxurious/upscale. IMO. The DT900 Pro X slots somewhere in the middle... Maybe a Civic Type R tuned for SCCA events? 😅
Two things that may affect this review. 1. You should use the 'analytical' earpads that come with the DT1990 if the sound is too bassy. The 'balanced' earpads have a bass bump. 2. The DT1990 likes a good quality DAC and headphone amplifier. This will give better separation between left-right amongst other improvements. The HD560s may still win despite this, I don't know. But the above can make a difference.
For competitive Gaming the Sennheiser might be slightly better than the 1990’s. For music and other games the 1990 are way better in my opinion! Way better, more exciting and deeper sound. Especially on techno, house, hiphop and music with some bass in it.
Ordered 1990 recently and was disappointed. There's significant rumble in right earcup in the lower frequencies. Before that I was using 990 for a long time, and there were no problems. So eventually I had to order Sennheiser 660S2. It's totally impossible to work with this rumble with 1990
Love the vids man, I recently picked up crinacle zero blues and I’m honestly not a fan, I feel like I can’t pinpoint enemies at all, would the 560s be better just for competitive gaming? Or would you recommend something else
I own the Dt1990 and run them from a Topping amp. I use them for all games single player and competitive currently and my biggest take away was the front and back. I agreed with your statement that they tend to blur together. However I found separation of sounds was great. Battlefield in particular I could hear all my team mates all the enemies all the vehicles and shouting and such. But I found the weakness in distance. I'd hear things from far away and close but struggled figuring out how far they were from me. I have ordered the HD560s to see the comparison for myself.
@@primemachine146 Sound staging and imagining are top notch. Great for competitive shooters. However the sound quality was a rough step down from the DT1990. But it’s a $900 headphone compared to a $250 one. They should sound better. But pure gaming the Sens win. Not by much but they do win. I’m currently using Hifiman Ananadas. Same imaging quality as the Sens and sound staging is even better with the quality of sound in the DT1990s.
@@dustinmihalcheon5013 So Hifiman Anandas are better than HD560s when gaming? I've also heard rumors that Anandas are hard to drive. Do my Motu M2 headphone output have enough power to drive them? looking 4 your reply bro.
@@huangelliot5601 They seemed just as good of not better at imaging direction and distance as the 560S. Sound staging is around the same. Height imaging (above and below you) is better probably due to the size of the drivers. And the audio quality is just hands down better. Now that I have had them for awhile the bass is better as well. Fuller and deeper without being over done for hearing detail. And honestly of all the high end headphones I have had (anywhere from 300 to 1600 Canadian) they were among the easiest to drive. You should be fine. The OG non stealth Hifiman Aryas are power hungry though but double the price. If you have the money to throw at a gaming headset these are the best I have heard for the price range and above. And that incudes Audeze LCD Xs and Beyer DT1990s. My only quip is even though they include two cables (3.5 mm and 1/4 inch) they seem kinda cheap for an expensive set of headphones.
@@dustinmihalcheon5013 Hey man! I've got the 990 pros and I've had them for a few years, I was thinking of switching them up with a 1190 or 900 X or HD 560S, what would you pick? Number one thing for me is comfort and 990 pros have been pretty good at it!
I stumbled upon your channel recently and just wanted to say you've done great reviews and I really like this competitive audio series! I've been on a similar quest over the past couple of years and tried many of the same headphones (including the HD800s) you have and reached similar conclusions. I do have a question for you on this one - When you tested the 1990s were you using the balanced or analytical ear pads? Balanced pads are on by default, and they have more bass than the analytical pair. I'd be curious to know your thoughts on the analytical pads and potentially the aftermarket Dekoni Elite Velour which are a well-regarded pair of aftermarkets that sound great on the 1990s as well.
@@FreshReviewsYT Ah ok. In that case, were you thinking the 1990s also had a bit too much bass to pick out lots of audio cues at once, even with the analytical pads on? Looking forward to your next videos :)
What annoys me is just because a lot now days use headsets the game devs are stopping giving us what was the gold standard of sounds in games and thats real 5.1+ surround sound so your home system was so good at directional awareness. The only reason any had headsets back than was to lower noise in the house or because home system cost so much.. We are paying more for games and literally get less

However Ive got 125$ gift card and thought maybe ill put it towards a second option for when the wife isn't in the same room ( So I don't drive her Crazy) and try open-back out. Ive got a blue mic so the PC gaming version isn't ness. But this version is on sale at my local Guitar center. Would the 560s be an upgrade just plugged into my cloud II dac? or should I not waste the money?
@@FreshReviewsYT I use Dekoni Elite Velour pads myself. They actually have a bit more bass than stock analytical pads (measurements available on Dekoni website). Maybe its the distance to the driver that gives you the perception of less bass since the analytical pads are super flat. Other than the pads I also use a passive filter that gets rid of that nasty peak at 8 kHz . I have yet to find a better sounding headphone. It just sounds "right" to me.
@@FreshReviewsYT in your comparison between the 900x and the 1990 you mentioned something about the 900x has better bass impact or something.. giving you a better "feeling" of where the enemy is. But here they are too bassy? Do the dekoni pads get rid of more bass? How does it help it out? Sorry if you already made a video, I couldn't find it on your channel
I am considering upgrading my headset. At the moment, I own the Beyerdynamic DT 990 Edition 250 ohms running them with the FiiO K5 Pro, but they are lacking a bit in gaming, possibly because of the high treble or something. Been interested in the DT 1990 Pro. Would I see any difference between the two, as my primary use case will be gaming. I used to have Sennheiser HD 558, but I didn't really like them. Thanks!
Nice review man, I wasn't sure which one of those to get. Is this an older version of the 560S headphones which comes with the microphone or did you just swap the cable?
Now, time to get serious; 560 vs 660 vs Edition XS. ;) XS has INCREDIBLE technical performance(especially for only $500), but is a touch too bright for me. LOVE 660 for FPS.
I don’t know if it’s just me, but while I can pinpoint where the sound is coming from PERFECTLY with dt 1990s, I have trouble hearing footsteps with even a little bit of range, unless I have them too loud which destroys my ears and mushes the sounds together. I have a fiio k7 as well with them. This is especially true for games like Rust and PUBG.
@@FreshReviewsYT the thing is, 2 friends of mine have e10k (which is way worse, also fiio) and dt 990s (not 1990s like me) and have no trouble hearing footsteps at range, that seems to be my biggest problem. Range. It’s weird

Hi guys great video ! I am gaming with my CA Andromedas which are great for stereo imaging but not for gaming ( vertical ). I have used my Meze Empyrean but need to drive them with hugo 2 which works well but not brilliantly so I am wondering how you think these would compare to eg hd 600, DT 900 pro x or AT AtH70x? Mostly for cs2, tarkov, insurgent sandstorm. Any ideas ?
Aye bro solid af! yet to find a reviewer that mentions warzone specifically and how its requires something completely differant compared to other fps titles. having a really hard time choosing between the astro a40, steelseries arctis pro and logitech g pro x. i dont wanna get a gaming headset personally but there alot less hassle. do any of these come close to the footstep clarity of the 560s? if not what others would you recommend on top of the 560s? good work again bro
Thanks so much. I think the Logitech g pro x are the best out of the bunch you listed. I’ve tried all of them and I find them to be slightly a better all around package. The problem though is none of them do a very good job keeping footsteps clean while bassy sounds are going off. The pc38x is a solid option for the price and they’re an all around package with the mic included. Even the razer black shark v2 is a fairly good option. I liked it a bit more than the Logitech except for build quality. I found myself saying, more times than not, “wow no footsteps???” When dying with those headsets. The audio technica AD700x are really really good at around 100$ but they can be a little fatiguing with the treble. Really good for positional audio though
@@FreshReviewsYT far out man thanks heaps! Yeah i really would like the best of the best if i could. Can you think of any others that come close to the sound signature of the 560s incase i cant get them cheap enough in Australia or would you say there the best of the best? and would you say open back is preferable? I tried the dt 990s with the sound blasterx g6 and although the game did feel more immersive footsteps were kinda all over the place and i had to stop as ears were ringings for a good day after using them. Not sure if im sensitive or if its the amp or if i just didnt set them up right but i felt my shitty 20$ jbl close backs with windows sonic surround were better for footsteps. Pretty gutted. If the amp is the main problem what would be your go to? Ive heard good things about the evga nu sound card which i think is a dac amp just internal. In short aha your best combo you can think of for wallhack like clarity on warzone and do you just leave on stereo or is it better to eq and add 7.1/5.1/dolby atmos. Sorry for all the questions man but cant think of a better dude to ask.🤙🏽
Hey Fresh! After watching your videos, I bought this ABLET Boom microphone cable along with the Sennheiser HD560s. Any recommendations for a dac amp that will work for this mic cable? I'm also a competitive FPS player looking for a good dac amp or gaming sound card. Many thanks.
Brilliant comparison! Can you compare the hd560s with the Takstar hd2050 (or his clone, the isk hi2010) and the Takstar pro 82? The hd2050 are the open back version of the Takstar Pro 80 which is the model from which the hyperX cloud 2 were based on. The takstar Pro 82 is the model from which the cooler master mh751/mh752's where based on. They are both very affordable headphones with amazing build quality and great sound. I think they diserve more attention. I own both and I was thinking about getting the hd560s but don't know if that's going to be an upgrade or I'm going to be disappointed. I play on consoles exclusively, do you think the hd560's are going to work well plugged to the controller, or they need an amp? Thanks for the amazing comparisons. 🙏
I have a sound blaster x g6 and an audio technica ath-g1. While i really do like it. I do miss the clarity of open backs. I previously had a ath-adg1x but hated the wing design. Do you think the g6 will give me the desired clarity paired with the 560s? I think thats kind of the only thing holding me back right now. Great informative vids from a gamers point of view. Wish there was more vids like this. Keep up the great work.
Thanks! The G6 should be sufficient with these. Worst case scenario, I would try to EQ down some of the bass if the bass comes through heavy. My experience with the G6 was the bass always sounded a little more powerful. You should be set though!
@@FreshReviewsYT I had the Philips but from my experience with them (compare to the Audio-Technica ATH-AD900X) , they were pretty bad at imagining / as bad as the AKG 702. Let us know ;-)

Great comparison! How would the HD560S compare to DT770 Pro? I have the Tygr 300R AutoEQ'd, but my friend with the ATH-M50x hears footsteps further away much earlier than I do. Would getting the HD560S or DT770 be an improvement? (Understand open vs closed back, but interested in performance in the above situation) Thanks!
For anyone that’s interested, I purchased the 560S and they do have better separation and clarity than the TYGR 300R - tested only on Hunt: Showdown. The difference isn’t massive but it’s there. Having a flat signature makes a positive impact on clarity especially with a ton of overlapping noise at different frequencies - doesn’t get muddled. However the vertical positioning - while decent, doesn’t beat the TYGR 300R (e.g. whether sounds are coming from above/below/same level). I miss the Tygr’s accurate positioning in some situations. If only I could quickly swap back and forth 😊 My very broad ratings - based on my 2 key considerations in Hunt: Showdown (competitive FPS) - HD 560S: Excellent separation and clarity (5/5). Good positional/directional audio (4/5). TYGR 300R: Excellent positional/directional audio (5/5). Good separation and clarity (4/5). Btw for those unaware, this game is renowned for its audio detail, among other things.
Thanks for your comments, I’m actually deciding in between both of these headphones right now. I’ve ordered both to try them out. Do you run a DAC/AMP, and if so which one? I’m struggling to pick those right now.
I use the FiiO BTR5 (2021). I find I need to turn up the volume when using the TYGRs, so yea definitely get the DAC/AMP if you decide on these. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the comparison after you get the headsets!

@kintsugi3932 My analogy is bad but you agree with it? I literally said that the 560s were better for competitive gaming...

Still.

So scared of having my dreams crushed and sitting there with two $200+ headphones for no reason 😅

HD800s are insanely good.
I just want to say Thank You for steering me in the right direction!
let me know how it goes! I am excited for you! HUGE upgrade
out of curiosity what audio option were you using in warzone when testing the 560's (high or low boost) ?
Would also like to know lol.
This is a late comment but try boost low. I’ve found footsteps are very clear
low or studio
Also the motherboard I have the aorus elite x570, so nothing special but still a relatively new mid range board (2019-2020 I think, roughly around 200-250 dollars).
thank you to your video I got me a 560S and OMG it is so good I can't put it down. SUB
Haha love it!
All using Creative g6 7.1 on PC
The 560s is great for competitive gaming, but my god I find them boring.
Cheap build, narrow soundstage (3 blob effect) and insane clamp pressure.
which had the best imaging out of all of them?
which?
What about the K712 and Fidelio??
I was in a doubt which one to buy 560s's or dt 770 pro , well after this review I think I will stick with the 560s's
Great review bro. By the way what mice is that with the glowing light?

have you tried dt 990 pro
tygr 300 r ?
how would you compare the 560s to those
Have not tried tygr. But they’re better than the 990s for sure
Thank you so much. I got the DT 990 Pro but wanted something more comfortable and performed better!
The 990s are more comfortable than either of these, if purely after comfort
@@mbj920 I like the 560s more. I find the 990 pro too strong of a clamping force
@@h4m2_ I'm a gamer too and I've heard wonders about the sound space and footstep tracking on the 990s but i'll have to look into the 560s
I had both of these and somehow I had the totaly oposite experiense. DT1990 were like a walhack for me while the 560s was very good but sometimes misleading.
Did you have enough ohm going to the hd 560 s?
THANK YOU!
so basically 560s has further range of footstep hearing but the dt 1990 pro has clearer sound direction right?
I felt the 560 had better sound direction too for most games
For me the directional audio in game is not realy good on the DT1990. For music the DT1990 is absolutely fantastic. For Gaming I’m using a Sennheiser HD600. For FPS it’s just way better because of the directional sound. I kept the DT1990, because it’s just too good for music (and well build) to send back. Now I have 2 headphones.
definitely helped me to choose these
I have the 560s really enjoy the directional audio as well, glad to see the beyer taking the L on this review, it satisfied my curiosity. Now I'm curious how the 800s compares and if the price jump could be worth it from a gaming perspective
Come on you just wanted to justify your purchase even though every other review says the 1990 pros are far better than anything else under $500
@@alxexp haven't really seen any other reviews covering this exact comparison so cant really comment on that

Just got mine, play Warzone, with autoEQ 560S sounds very good!
Updated review coming by this weekend
For competitive Gaming the Sennheiser might be slightly better than the 1990’s. For music and other games the 1990 are way better in my opinion! Way better, more exciting and deeper sound. Especially on techno, house, hiphop and music with some bass in it.
@@jimrobbe390 agreed

How did it it go??
Ty!! I tested both pads but I’ve given good thought in buying them again and testing them with dekoni pads
@@FreshReviewsYT Ah ok. In that case, were you thinking the 1990s also had a bit too much bass to pick out lots of audio cues at once, even with the analytical pads on? Looking forward to your next videos :)
Hey man a great covered and high detailed review 👍 you should try out the hifiman 5xx drop for a comparison 👍
Great vid, helped me to pick the 560S,which mod mic is that on the 560S

Is the 560s still the best FPS headset under $200 or would you recommend anything else? I have a standalone mic so that is not a variable
I currently have the hyperx cloud IIs with the 3.5 to USB dac that comes with it. Ive been considering trying an open-back headset for Hunt Showdown; its a cytek game that uses stereo sound. I think I hear well with the current closed back set.
I’m thinking you probably wouldn’t get enough volume through the usb dac. Might be worth a try, but I don’t think it would fly
If the bass is too much on the 1990 you can use the analytical pads that come in the case.
I actually did. However, after this video I tried dekoni ear cups and it made them fantastic
It sounds like it’s the fiio tbh. Some amps/dacs can feel more open and provide more depth and stage

(Understand open vs closed back, but interested in performance in the above situation)
Thanks!
If only I could quickly swap back and forth 😊
My very broad ratings - based on my 2 key considerations in Hunt: Showdown (competitive FPS) -
HD 560S: Excellent separation and clarity (5/5).
