My address was White Top, VA when I was born. I was born in Jefferson, NC because that was the nearest hospital. Everyone in my mom’s family lived in VA but went to school in NC. They were tobacco farmers but switched to Christmas trees. A lot of the time White Top still has snow on top of the mountain in the summer. I grew up in Smyth Co (Marion, VA). Mom ended up living near Grayson-Highlands Park. From the park you can look in the valley and see a church and cemetery-final resting place for many of my relatives. I live in FL now and miss the mountains but love the ocean too! I just returned from the GA mountains and the fall leaves were beautiful!
I'm just now seeing your comment, and we are actually sitting in the North Georgia mountains, eating at the Dillard House. Thank you for sharing your comment and your memories. West Jefferson and Southwest Virginia is very nice. We've been to Grayson Highlands, but it's been several years.
I really love your videos, they are very informative and interesting. I was wondering if you all have ever been to the north Georgia mtns .the fall colors are beautiful this time of year.
We went to Helen and Dahlonega the year before last, on Black Friday. We made videos there. We've been to Brasstown Bald, Helen, and Dahlonega a couple of times.
Are you referring to the leaves? I'm sorry, but I don't remember what I said about a drought in that video. There were drought conditions going on at that time. I may have made reference to it, but I'm not sure exactly what you are referring to.
If y'all want some really pretty views of the leaves try elk knob State Park on top that's our favorite place to take pictures of the leaves. We don't live very far from there so I guess we're bais😂.
The most popular fresh cheese at the NC Cheese Factory is the curds(or squeaky cheese). My Dad was born(1917) in Lansing(my Grandfather built a grist mill there), later moving to Smyth County. Years ago, I bought some blackberry moonshine at the Cheese Factory! 😮When my Dad grew up, every Saturday night(spring-fall) there were Blue Grass bands playing all night at White Top Mt.on a large stage! My mother grew up in Konnarock. I grew up in Chilhowie, VA, enjoying many picnics at Mt. Rogers & Grayson County State Park. After leaving for college, living in several big cities in the USA, I now live in Charlotte! Thanks for the ride down memory lane!
Nice! Thanks for sharing your story with us, and we are so glad our video brought back some fond memories for you. Not sure if you saw our drone video from this same Fall, but we actually have some footage from various areas, including Smyth Co, VA. I get the cheese curds every time we go to the Ashe County Cheese Factory! I love them!
Thanks for the video, the view was beautiful and the drive would be so nice trying to find the mountain top. I appreciate you naming the roads to the final destination. Be Safe.
Hope you had a good time during your trip. I don't know what is going on here with the leaves since they seem to be running behind and the colors are not as pretty as they normally are in my area of North Georgia. It's cool like fall but we have not had any rain in over a month so that may have something to do with it. Noticed at the start and end of your video there was a cute furry little head that kept popping up in the seat behind you. Have a blessed day and safe travels.
@user-nw4oj2sb1o Yes, I don't remember the exact title of the video, but it should be something "Aerial Footage" or "Drone Footage" from Fall of last year. Some of it was recorded the same day that this video was. But it's just drone footage put to music.
@user-nw4oj2sb1o Here it is... th-cam.com/video/8VdRMNcJGRw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jYghgzWEwt-4xcVg It's almost a 20-minute video, but the part with Smyth County, starts just after 7:50. There are scenes from various areas, including the Smokies, Ashe County, Avery County, etc.
Very nice! We enjoyed our fall drives on the Smokies. Absolutely beautiful ! Weather was great! Nice people, crowded here &, there but expected for that time of year . Bears on Roaring Fork Motor Trail. Saw nothing in the Cove! Not even a deer! Strange......Lil River Rd was breath taking with color 😊
Little River Road is one of our favorite fall drives. We are going to be up there next weekend, but if it's really colorful now, we will probably miss most of the color along that road. We will probably also try Roaring Fork Road.
Thank you so much for the subscription, and for commenting. So glad you enjoyed the video of the area you are from. I noticed your last name is Dollar. Do you know where Dollar Mace Road is, very close to Buffalo Road?
@@NCMemoryMakers Yes sir That was my Uncle Mace. My family place is on Dollar road which is about a mile past buffalo road on the left. After viewing your published video list I see we frequently visit the same places. You guys do wonderful work!
@@NCMemoryMakers Oh nice! I’ll have to ask who that might be when I go back up. Are you familiar with the Virginia Creeper mural in town? That’s on my Aunt Jo’s old tire store. I remember as a kid the train coming right through our front yard and being thrown candy from the engineers. Also have family in Lansing and Helton area which y’all commented on. Looking forward to watching more of the videos!
@John_Dollar I'm not familiar with that mural, but I'll have to check it out. We ate at the Log House in Lansing for lunch, this past October. Really enjoyed it. I wish I could remember the names of the people we bought him from, but that's been about 10 years.
Pretty area my Mom birthday is Oct. 21 she would be 96. Happy Birthday to your Dad also. They live on in our hearts. Thanks for taking us along to see this area I've never seen.

We just had supper in the North Georgia mountains tonight.
If the drought is effecting them the will feel it.I am everything is still green.

I agree about the roads - bet they want to keep it remote from a lot of traffic - you found a lovely area
Probably. But a person could really damage their vehicle on that road.
Growing up in Smyth County, VA, you bet they want to keep it remote…been like that as long as I can remember!
We loved Shatley Springs. I’m loosing hope in it reopening. Sad.
Me too - It’s so sad - Wish they would open up -
Yes, their last Facebook post about reopening, was in March. I honestly think the new owners are doing a terrible job of keeping people informed.
Yes, and I wish the new owners would do a better job of informing people of the progress.

Yes, we enjoyed our day together. Thank you for watching.

Our pleasure! We try to include as much information as possible, in case someone wants to know how to get there. Whitetop Mountain was tough to find.

My Daughter and I just got back from visiting North Carolina ,Gatlinburg and parts of the Blue Ridge the color was beautiful.
So glad you got to go, and that you had a wonderful time with your daughter.
these places really do need better signs
Yes, they do. I would say we drove 15 miles round-trip out of our way, because of the lack of signage.
Having grown up near there, believe me they do not want tourists….therefore, less signage the better! 😅
