However I would like to ask you for one more tutorial about mocha :D ...how to manually adjust the surface data (corner pins) when they slide or not stuck there becouse of a difficult shot. In your example you masked the finger and everything good. But in some other cases the tracking becomes a bit unstable so, if there is a way to manual correct the surface tracking data it would be nice

    Thank you for the tutorial. You called this for Absolute Beginners and you explained things well, but my issue is, as beginner to software it is hard to learn when people use keyboard shortcuts. This seems natural to seasoned users but I am wondering if you learned the software using keyboard shortcuts or did you first learn the software using the menus and learning where these commands are? I think beginners need to learn the software and know where to find all of the steps using the menus. I typically learn where the commands are, then we start to learn keyboard shortcuts. I also find that many people conduct tutorials too fast. Beginners need to go a little slower and have time to absorb the information. Don't get me wrong, your instruction is great and you explain thing well, I just had a hard time keeping up and had to rewind many, many times, as I tried to learn the process. I liked your instruction an am now a subscriber. I'm a beginner in making short films, and I am trying to learn After Effects and the Mocha AE to add a wound to an actor's face in one of my scenes. I've gotten good at the surface tracking on a face, but I still struggle with how to attach my image to follow the tracking.

    • @SurfacedStudio
      @SurfacedStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It simply makes it easier to track if you have a high contrast, stable image you are tracking. Gib can download many tracker images online or make your own - it just needs to be clear, high contrast and have some distinct shapes so the tracker has something to hold onto :)

    • @SurfacedStudio
      @SurfacedStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Terrific instruction video, many thanks! I'm tracking multiple surfaces which require multiple masks .. all of which go off and back on screen. The video is about 2:40 minutes long, but requires tracking for the whole video and not dynamic linking with PP. In your introduction, you mention tracking multiple surfaces. Is it possible to do this in the one application of mocha on the base footage, or does it require additional applications of Mocha on the footage to separate the tracking and masking? Would you have an available video on this?

  • @tomrauch1
    @tomrauch1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, is there a simple way to replace the screen replacement video with another one, and not go through all the Mocha AE planar tracking, masking etc? I tried to use a new precomp with a new screen video, made sure the tracking data in Mocha AE was exported to the new comp, but I seem to have lost my rotoscoping work (the swiping fingers now appear underneath the screen replacement). Thanks for the excellent tutorial!

    • @SurfacedStudio
      @SurfacedStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’d recommend to pre-compose your clip before you apply any tracking or rotoscoping to it - that way you can go into that composition and just change the contents to anything you want without affecting the tracking or roto used in the parent comp

  • @Easy1two3
    @Easy1two3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Tobias, quick question: was the bezier spline matte really neccesary? Couldn't you have drawn the mask Round the screen insert accurately the first time, and gotten the same result?

    • @SurfacedStudio
      @SurfacedStudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Martijn, wasn't necessarily 'necessary'. I just like using Bezier splines for rounded shapes as I feel I get a better fit, but you can just draw lots of points with a straight-edged shape as well if that works better for you :)

    Thanx for the tutorial, it helped me but I still have some issues. I need to track a white sheet o paper or canvas I hold in my hands. First off, can you reshoot your video? If so, don't use a white paper, use something that has a pattern or contrast so you can track it more easily :) Otherwise try tracking the 'outside' of the paper, e.g. extend the mask past the edge of the paper by a bit to give Mocha a chance to get the movement

      Hi, put Vegas in the bin are my thoughts at the moment, I'm trying to do this in Vegas Pro 19 but Vegas won't play it for me after doing the tracking in Mocha Pro so that i can edit the inserted images to get them into position for the swipe, I'm watching this to see if a can decide whether to swap to Adobe, I posted a screen capture video to the Vegas forum for help but no replies there, My PC has an AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3975WX 32Cores, 256GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 so i would expect it to be able to handle this, it's Vegas that's no good, th-cam.com/video/xM_4qyi2LD0/w-d-xo.html

    I have a bit of a problem. I have some shots I need to track, but there is pretty bad lens distortion, like a bit of fisheye. It's distorting the window I need to replace... How do I deal with that? :(

    • @SurfacedStudio
      @SurfacedStudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're welcome! What you'll need to do is use an "unwarp-warp workflow".
      You need to apply a lens correction effect (such as Optics Compensation) to your clip first to fix the lens distortion. THEN do the tracking on the corrected layer (make sure you pre-comp it) and then apply the lens correction the other way on your final inserted effect (again, make sure it's all pre-comped) to re-distort the footage :)
      If you are working with Mocha Pro, it has that functionality inbuilt via the Lens Module. Hope that helps!

    • @borisfxlearn
      @borisfxlearn 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just to let you know, Mocha Pro does have a Lens Module which is designed for this exact purpose. To track footage with Lens Distortion. It is a paid option" but might be worth it depending on your project. th-cam.com/video/MYQjSNge-es/w-d-xo.html

    • @lukastemberger
      @lukastemberger 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you both, I'm testing it out today and it seems to be exactly what I need. The client even said he doesn't mind keeping it unwarped, since it's in 4K and delivery is 1080, so some of the "stretched" edges can be cropped out.
      Optics Compensation does the trick, but it's a bit of a guessing game and Mocha Lens Module does the calculations for me, so I think it'll be the way to go.
      Thanks again!

      Hi, I recommend to start out with the simplest possible test.
      1. Get a really simple piece of footage - or use the sample from this tutorial.
      2. In Mocha AE, create a single shape and track the surface of the benchtop for 10 frames, starting from the start of the timeline. Make sure the surface is cleanly tracked.
      3. Return to AE.
      4. Make sure the layer you want to use as the 'insert' is not scaled/rotated/moved and matches the size of your composition perfectly

      Did it track correctly within Mocha and you can see the shapes following your object correctly? What happens when you 'Display Matte' or 'Apply Matte' within the Mocha effect? Does that still line up? And most importantly - did you pre-compose your layer (and move all attributes into the nested comp) before applying the Mocha AE effect?

      You may have drawn a slightly different shape around your phone, hence you may be getting slightly different results and behaviour during tracking. If in doubt, just create a garbage matte for any foreground elements that might be throwing off your track as shown in the tutorial :)
