An easier solution for the "Closing compositions" chapter - if you right-click the hamburger options icon on the right side of the timeline name, you can select "Close Other Panels in Group" which will leave only that composition open
Amazing tips!! An easier option to open and edit a layer in Illustrator would be to right click on it within the timeline, select "Open" and then "Edit Original"
So that goat noise is After effect's error noise. You can get it to play by asking it to do something that it basically can't. I discovered this when I was running a bunch of renders overnight and AE hit an error - while hooked up to a huge sub and speakers that I had forgotten to turn off. It woke me up and scared the living sh!t out of me all in one LOUD goat bleat.
Cool tips all around! I recently discovered that you can right click on a comp tab in the timeline and there's options to close all other timelines or tabs there. Also, you when you select a layer in your composition and want to replace with something else in your project you don't have to ALT+DRAG precisely on that layer. As long as you have selected the layer you want to replace you can simply alt+drag in your comp or timeline and after effects will replace it.
i knew all except 3 which i may've forgotten becuz of less use. - Open All Properties, i just use Ctril + F and find it. - Fix banding, i dont use that much, maybe gaussian blur will do the trick. - New comp from footage, i just drag to the comp icon.
I recently found a great shortcut key - the tilde key ( ~ ) makes whatever panel you are hovering over full screen - awesome when stuff gets cluttered!
Great video, thanks a lot for the useful tricks! Some constructive feedback: every time you mention a shortcut it would be great to see it on screen so it's easier to remember (visual memory) :)
If you dont know where is your .aep file from a project, you can import the exported file to a new project, then press control+e with the file selected. The command is called edit original and it opens the .aep that the video was made of.This could be a lifesaver if you are working with a lot of people sharing files and projects or if you need to work on a really old project.
3:50 The Crtl + W trick also works with other applications like premiere, photoshop, illustrator and even browsers like google chrome. Just thought I'd share 🙂
I've been in AE more and more recently but realistically for me, I don' think I knew a single one. I make a lot of simple mograph and need to replace a logo or other elements and use the alt drag the new element, but now that I know about the new method that'll be a game changer. I'd like to also experiment with the 'keep it procedural' especially on selecting colors over layers (if possible). Keeping everyone's fill or stroke the same with one click would be a super help.
Great to hear! In relation to your fill colours, you could link with effects, a colour control expression or essential graphics - which is something I could definitely do a video on!
Thank you for these! I know/use some of them, but a few were new to me! Re: basic math in variable properties: - You can actually make Ae do more math if you feel like doing less. As an example, if I'm making something that needs to be 1/16th taller than my 1080p comp, I can enter '1080 + (1080 / 16)' and it'll do that. - If you're going to write an expression that uses math based on another property, rather than dividing I recommend multiplying by a decimal. That way, if the referenced property ever goes to 0, you don't break your expression. As an example, if you want a layer to rotate 1/2 as much as its parent, use 'thisLayer.parent.transform.rotation * 0.5;' so that if the reference layer isn't rotated, it sets the value to 0, rather than disabling the expression :)
How many of these did you know? Share you secrets in the comments!

And CTRL+SHIFT+W Closes all comps which is actually great for cleanup.
Whoa 18 (3d space) blew my mind - thanks Scott!
It's a good one!

Great video man!
After 5+ years of everyday work in After Effects there are still some secret tips you can find, keep up the good work!
Thanks a lot! Glad you learned something new
Been using After Effects for well over a decade and there's a TON of small tricks here I didn't know. Thanks!
Love to hear it!
damn man on god it's the most info-packed video I have seen on AE for a while!!!
thanks for making this amazing video from your hectic schedule
Thanks so much for the kind words!
Some great tips in there. I use ctrl shift alt + P to open last project a lot.
Great tip, thanks for sharing!
The goat noise also happens if your render fails, the first time that sound went off I almost jumped out of my chair. Great video btw!
This video was really useful. I was expecting already known tips but it caught me by surprise! Congrats
THE GOAT SOUND ITS AFTER EFFECT TELLING U THAT U ARE THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME

WHAT ON EARTH THAT GOAT NOISE. I almost didn't believe you (because why would that exist), but it totally works!
No clickbait here!

EXACTLY the same here! 😁hahah.

Often use this for previews or for viewing my keyframes when there's a lot going on!
dude, this was super impressive
Thanks mate!

Goat sound is probably a sound of error. For example you hear a certain sound effect in windows if there is a error
Thanks for great tips and shortcuts
The only time I've heard the goat noise is when a render has failed - you get the goat noise instead of the chime.
Yeah I’ve heard that one!
to close all opened compositions you can press the Burger menu. Theres a option to close all timeline panels

Adorable tips and tricks 😻
Very useful
On a Mac, you can also close all your comps by selecting your timeline and pressing Command Option W.
Fantastic list, learned a few here that made me facepalm at the things I was doing manually for fifteen years.
These were great, but an easier solution for #14 is to select the layer and hit Ctrl+E (for Edit). It automatically opens it in the corresponding app.
This is amazing!
Great video! :)
Awesome work dude
the noise is the standard adobe error goat sound of 'NO' you cant do that. I assume your example is because you are in some form of loop command.
Billy the goat. It´s just an easter egg.
Is there a way to turn off the Snapshot sound effect?
I’m not sure to be honest mate!

I know a very old secret which is help to extract a camera from a 3d s max render sequence to your ae timeline
