I told myself I would play one month of FF14 to give the game a fair shot, and even though I had negative preconceptions I ended up enjoying the game a lot, so much that I will continue playing through all the expansions, at least until I don't have fun anymore. @@TH-camChillZonehow about playing one and switch to the other when you get bored? GW2 and FFXIV both offer something entirely different (linear story vs immersive open world or insane encounter design vs more dynamic gameplay).
Dynamic?! Fight in GW 2 has always been about stacking under the boss, the only thing that has changed since 2012 is that you no longer have to aggro in the corner 💀🤣 The only place where there is dynamics is pvp
@@TH-camChillZonehow is there “much more value” in playing a subscription based MMO that forces you to play a single player story for hundreds of hours vs an MMO that doesn’t require a subscription to play and that it gives you the freedom to do whatever content you want to do ? What kind of “value” are we talking about here ?
@@ATRS2K A subscription fee is what ensures that the MMORPG has to maintain its quality and not become a pay2win Except for GW2, almost all of the popular MMORPGS have mandatory or optional subscriptions
veterans don't realize or remember just how hard this game can be to get into. a lot of people won't have the time required to even start the journey to get to parts that are conventionally enjoyable for the typical MMO audience. it's a story game first and foremost and when viewed alongside other banger MMOs, it can look like the game doesn't respect your time and tbh that'd be exactly true. plus taking into account all the optional stuff to grind out to get things as basic as dyeable fingernails. or the terribly bloated ability progression. or the annoying level sync butchering your class into pieces across multiple level brackets that you may not like *coughs in black mage*. i'm obviously saying all this as someone who has put in a ton of time and energy into the game. it's not as good as it could be and fans act like it is. thankfully but unfortunately, the veneer has worn thin with dawntrail and people are finally comfortable with criticizing the game. it's a fantastic world to get immersed in but think of what you want out of it first and stack it up next to other options.
Finished up Shadowbringers and had roughly 500 hours on the game from leveling several classes, working up PVP ranks, and getting some raids done from the early xpacs - Feel like I got my moneys worth for the couple years i played the game on and off - I think its a fantastic game and any MMO fan would have a blast playing it, for how long is truly the question.
I agree FF14 is not an easy to get into MMO during first few hrs. I had hard time enjoying it in Realm Reborn first half with lot of reading, skill and movement restrictions for some classes. But when 2nd half started i really got engaged in it due to its really good story and some cool music in dungeons. Though I'm a casual player I felt really welcomed by the community. Veteran players were helpful and didn't rage even if I screwed up on some parts in dungeons. Instead they would guide and encourage to do better. This was really refreshing and odd experience for me who had played so many other MMOs. Rage quit, kicking frm party and toxic comments and bullying in other MMO's were normal. But here strangers who I never knew and were veterans would help me and even gift minions and other items to help cheer up. This was such a good experience fr me in MMO for the first time in life. I casually do all main quests and side quests, take my own sweet time and relax on weekends. There are some bad apples here to but good ones outnumber the bad ones. Just because of my experience with FF14 community that welcomed me and treated me so well I continue playing it. My thanks to all those sweet strangers in dungeons and kind veteran players that still make this MMO a unique and good experience for all players. 🍻
Definetely a people pleaser of a game. However while all MMOs can be demanding of your time, FFXIV is far from the most demanding. Gearing is much easier and the devs consistently make efforts towards ensuring that players are never walled out of newer content. I would try something like Black Desert Online if you want to see a MMO thats really demanding.
Archeage was to. Best pvp mmo I’ve played that required you to give your soul to it. Too bad it got worse and worse as years progressed. So now im stuck pve in ffxiv lol
As a fellow veteran since 2.0 (partial 1.0) this game is an amazing game for new and older players. The important golden rules to follow when playing this game - 1. Take your time: there is no point rushing thru the story, almost every content players are still doing even after all thes years. 2. Lots of Reading: about the entire game revolves around reading. If you just hate reading, then this game isnt for you. If you plan to skip for the hardcore raiding, then go for ot, but u might not enjoy what your raiding about to what is the backstory behind the rading scene. 3. Patience: Some people dont mind the slow start, but it does truly get better as you progress; especially when ur only about to use 2-3 skills the forst 20 levels. By the time u reach endgame, ur gonna be pressing so many skills, u might as well get a certify licence to even play the job masterfully (Mentor status) If your worried about pay for a game u might not like, that's where the Free Trials for the base game and the 2 expansion are free to play without using your credit card. But the biggest killee for motivation is actually starting up an account. We all went thru this and never has changed
My problems are no build diversity, and my playtime is limited cannot stick with subscription type. Im already lv 70 and personally i love dragoon, and any mmos cant beat dragoon class in ff14. But yeah thats my two problems.
Haha, I tried the Chinese server, where you can pay by the hour and don't need a monthly card. What's more, the base game and every update are free, and for just $0.1 per hour, you can enjoy the exact same game content. Of course, you need to learn Chinese to socialize.
Yes the start is slow and mundane, but I think that helps you get you attached. By the time things start ramping up I was spitting mad to protect my peoples I had spent hours fetch questing for. 😅
Started playing and fell in love with the game a while before Shadowbringers released and fell out of love with it as it was making it's way into Dawntrail. Best I can describe it is the overall vibe of the game went downhill for me, if that makes sense. I came back from a break and had a string of really unpleasant raid/roulette interactions (when I was even able to make it through the queue to play anything); tons of unaddressed annoyances with gameplay and story that kept piling up, like the wasted potential of the "personal island" they give you during Endwalker that just turns into yet another busywork generator; being advertised a "summer vacation" style expansion and having THAT turn into another busywork generator as well - it just wasn't worth the money I was throwing into it every month anymore. Ain't paying $15+ bucks every month to get irritated and stressed out by a fake life, that's nonsense.
Every contents in this game is worth grinding but tedious as the same time. For example, grinding win in Frontline is really fun but nightmare at the same time (you may stuck with some unintelligent team or pro-player team), Savage raid is challenging but need some time to learn the mechanic of the boss. Deep dungeon can be play solo or with your teammate. I spend about 7 years in this game in every days and I found something new to grind or learn new things
I really did want to like this game and tried for a fair while, but I just didn't like the combat system. Plus it seems as though there's really no build diversity. I could do without the global cooldown system too that probably annoyed me the most. Other than that if it'd had something more akin to gw2 or TERA I probably would've been happy to play it further. As it was I only got so far as finishing heavensward (which was a high point, granted, definitely better story than majority of mmos).
Some of the side activities were fun too though, and I liked some of the dungeons. It's also a beautifully designed game world with of course that unique FF artstyle that I love. Just a shame I couldn't really stick with it.
@@RosaKaraline Thats fair, while I personally love the GCD style, especially with how much 0gcd's you get the higher you get it makes for a fun tighter form of combat, where mistakes mean more. But its understandable that type of gameplay isn't for everyone, or takes too long to finally get to
The problem with FFXIV is how they fix their problems. To fix their class problems, of which there are so so many, they tie the fix to the leveling system but they apply it so late you have to suffer through most of the game without the fix. There are many classes that feel like they're missing key skills and due to this feel janky or in some cases just horrible to play until much much later in the game. The same can be said for story and the leveling system itself. Oh and the fans are literally a cult.
You literally played the best part of it. The MSQ from ARR to EW and the fact that the game preserves all that content even 11 years later is what makes this game good. It doesn't get any better than the MSQ, if you don't like the MSQ then it's not the game for you, if you finished the MSQ up to 6.0 then yeah that's a great stopping point.
@@steel5897 lol it gets WAY better , ultimate raiding is the pinnacle of mmo raiding. The relics grinds are rewarding. Its about exploring all the systems in the game and overtime youll have the ever changing gaming loops and daily routines.
@@one_eyeddd473 Depends heavily if you have a set group of friends that do this with you or if you're solo. Ultimate Raiding, Savages, etc. is an absolute misery for Solo's.
Bro had like 10 different buttons he could have pressed to die slower. Plus the fact that the healer was at so low hp and standing on the opposite side of the tank means they most likely had to pull the adds over because he didn't have aggro. I realize this is nitpicking but the irony of saying the healer was afk while he was mindlessly spamming AoEs is too strong.
this was my first time tanking, so yes i could have played it better, but what i didnt show was that the healer ran through the blizzard and aggrod more mobs so i had to run through to save him, at which point he let me die. Regardless it was just a meme.
@@Vallun It happens, sometimes healers get impatient with new tanks if they think they are going too slow. That definitely sucks for someone trying to learn. Like I said, I know I was just nitpicking, and I get it was mostly so you could make a joke, but the irony of the situation was just funny to me and I had to point it out. You're good, everyone starts somewhere. I hope you enjoy the rest of the game!
The game is a walking simulator. 1. A certain point in the MSQ, you get locked out by a story dungeon quest due to no one queueing up. Especially in between expansion releases when game pop declines. 2. Combat system is clunky and you have to get to level 70+ to get your skills and semi-fluid combat, which means going through the MSQ going back to point no. 3. Lack of build diversity, every tank, DPS and healer are the same just different skins and animation. 4. Overworld is dead, no one is even doing FATES. Everyone is just lounging around town. The list could go on and on…
Probably not popular opinion but I enjoyed ARR especially post ARR had some of the best story moments. I think ARR is slow but is great at the same time it has a lot of lore, world building and character development aspects to build the overall story up.
So interesting to such a different perspective then mine. Most of the cons that you have mentioned are pros of the game for me. First of all the MSQ. I love long and linear stories in gaming but most of the time I get bored in single player games because I feel lonely. My favorite games of all time (story wise) nier automata, skyrim, borderlands 2 etc took me soo long to finish because I wanted to play something online (like LOL or another MMO) since I didn't want that lonely feeling. FF14 is like the middle ground for me. It has the story quality of a singleplayer game with the social aspects of an MMO. The dungeons or trials during the MSQ happen just as often as I want to socialize with other players that they feel like treats to me. Also the sprout chat keeps me company during long boring story chapters (Like ARR patch content). I think FF14 is different from other MMO's in the sense that the goal isn't to reach the end-game. The goal is to enjoy the process. I also like that it's a sub mmo. By paying for the Sub and the expansions square enix makes more then enough to make a great game that isn't P2W or shove a cash shop down our face. In fact there is no in game link to the cash shop and the only place that the cash shop is mentioned in game is the inn (where you can sleep and see different cash cosmetics if you want as a dream). Overall as a person with ADHD that can't finish lonely single player games and hated wasting precious hours in LOL I think FF14 is the perfect MMO for me. Also I played WOW for 7-8 years before FF14 and boy is it refreshing to have great storytelling in game and not having to read like 4 books to year just to understand the story (although ARR cutscenes might count as 4 books )
I really liked the original concept behind the game where you get a full JRPG story but your combat is real MMO content to do with other people like dungeons and FATE, I thought that was a great way to go about putting a JRPG inside of an MMORPG. I don't think it works anymore though: the story is now far, far too long, and the dungeon bot system seriously inhibits communities from forming since you have no reason to join or make an FC as a new player. I wish they took a page from Guild Wars 1's playbook where the different expansion stories are separate campaigns that can be started in any order.
theres usually 4 patches per expansion, they are still on the first patch of the latest expansion so now is the time to buy, but if you havent bought any expansions then just play the free trial for now
ARR to EW is amazing story wise, I started ff14 in HW and after finishing DT story I canceled my sub. Once you realize the classes don't have anymore depth and that there's just not that much meaningful content and the cracks start to show you ask "why am I paying a sub for this", and don't get me started on the community, surface level is looks welcoming and nice but underneath it has a dark underbelly that's probably one, if not the worst community of any mmo.
the worst community? I've got 1500 hours clocked on ff14 and I've never experienced toxicity. Only some people leaving an ex trial after an hour of trying, but they didn't complain in chat or anything. Is there a specific (niche) part of the community that has some nasty traits?
@joeysmit4644 comments like yours always miss the point. It's not in game. It exists in fc discords. That's where you see just how trashy and weird this community is.
@@Novax52 hmmm I gotta admit, I've just played it casually (mostly solo for the story), so I've never seen the fc discord meltdowns. How much worse are these communities when compared to the casual in game groups?
you clearly dont play the game lol ff14 community is considered one of the most radical and weird that exist all of it is hypocrisy and passive agressive attitude forced by an overwhelming tos that doesnt allow people to say much been playing for 12 years so yes what that guy said about the community being garbage in nature is true
I started the game when the level cap was level 50 and what kept me playing is what I felt was somewhat complex combat with always something more to learn about... but as expansions went on it felt like everything kept getting dumbed down. Resource management? gone. Aggro management? gone. Complex dungeons with unique mechanics that took had to memorize their mechanics to make smooth rewarding your knowledge? gone. And I started back when you had to spam fates in ARR to level a job to 50. if I started FFXIV today I don't feel like id push through to level 100 because id be bored to death. However I am playing today but not for its combat, but for its fishing and raiding. Also FFXIV really isn't an MMORPG, its more of a MORPG. They have been actively making FFXIV feel less and less like an MMORPG and the community really isnt much of a MMO community.
I tried so hard to get into this game but the early game is pretty boring, there were so many fetch quest and the story wasn't all that engaging. So yeah while I'm sure there's something incredible later down the line i feel the early game just does not respect my time
Yes and no, the first expansion and a decent chunk of HW are exposition and world building, and tbf that can rarely be enjoyable or exciting while setting up big satisfying conclusions much later in the story. Biggest thing to note about ff14 however are its a Story RPG first, and MMO second. It'll take a minimum of 350 hours of gameplay to reach the endgame (While not skipping story) FF14 is an amazing title, but suffers from "One Piece Syndrome."
I'd say buy a Storyskip but skipping literally *any* part of the story, will dampen the impact of Endwalker and how good it is. It's by far the best of the expansions in my eyes and wraps everything up. I'm a die-hard fan of this game (prolly cause it saved my life 2 times) but even I must say, that A realm Reborn and Heavensward are pretty slow and sluggish. x_x
@@Luna-Starfrostsome people don’t play for the story, the only reason i haven’t bought a skip is so i can learn the mechanics and get good lol. haven’t read 1 piece of the story or watched 1 cutscene. but i absolutely love the game!
if you're not interested in the story this game isn't for you. Period. I don't care what anyone says about "people should be able to enjoy games however they want!!!!!", I for one am extremely glad that at least *ONE* story-rich game out there is like "no, you're going to see this story and immerse yourself in it like everyone else or you're going to play something else". I love actually knowing that *most* the people I do content with *most likely* actually know what the content is about and 'earned' their way up to it through the story. I love doing content with first-timers knowing what they're about to experience. I love ONE game existing in this modern space where it's actually highly encouraged to give a crap about the lore and not just be some twitch chatter dudebro acting like story in games is objectively bad and/or have the attention span of a gnat. If they ever let you skip for free, it'll cease to be the same game and probably start to die in earnest as such a strong element of made it so special will be lost.
Excellent video, concise and informative! I’m finishing up another game right now, but have decided to try and get into ff again. The game model and reward system fits more with my gaming wishes now. What classes have you played so far, where ish in the story did you get? I’ll try and catch the stream sometime
FFXIV is decent singleplayer game, that has multiplayer aspects in it. As MMO it's playerbase has convinced itself it's the best game ever and it has the best community ever. If you don't agree with that you are a bigot and they will harrass you. Combat is just dancing, static shit with bright lights and there is no build or gear variation.
Sure, but you can literally apply this statement "it's playerbase has convinced itself it's the best game ever and it has the best community ever. If you don't agree with that you are a bigot and they will harrass you" applies to any toxic community, barring League of Legends (because they know their game sucks)
@@xL0stKIlah Another great example of toxic FFXIV player right here ^ You like to eat your own shit and call it steak, go ahead. Yeah, played it all the way through EW story, but because your community is so full of shit fucking losers like yourselves you never hear any negative opinions. Keep warm and cuddly in your own bubble you fucking loser :DDD
It’s like the meme goes. You either get filtered out by ARR or you play long enough to become a walking talking advertisement for the game. Yeah the beginning is rough and it took me 3 times to even get into the game. Third times the charm as I had beaten Dawntrail and call this my favorite game.
I play it straight from their launcher, but if you get better deals from steam (based on region) you should buy it there, not everyone does though and it can complicate things to go through steam
Instead of downscaling the whole class and limiting the skills you can use, you should be able to use all your skills, but the higher-level skills should be significantly nerfed to do similar damage to the earlier skills. This way you can still continue to learn the skill rotation even if you are doing lower-level content.
The two moments I've literally "hated" FF14, was between ARR and Heavensward, that massive slug of story, was so horrible. And then came Dawntrail, and those two shared a spot for me 🤣
my favorite mmo but the paid subscription just isn't worth it to me anymore. 15 bucks a month adds up and just ends up being over 100 bucks a year just to play a game. not really worth it when you also have to pay 40 bucks for content also. amazing game but cost too much just to up keep.
what do you think of the combat in ffxiv? once i tried the combat in gw2 i couldn't go back to ffxiv. i really enjoyed so many things about ffxiv and played for about 2 years but I could never get past how bad the combat felt.
i am already not a fan of tab target, and this isnt even the best form of tab target, but as i said, the combat taking place in a premise of meaningful story or progression is what is enjoyable, whereas gw2 combat is inherently fun it has almost no meaning to it
@@Vallun that makes sense. once i had to repeat dungeons (for dailies or to level up my party members) then it became less about the story and more about the combat. maybe that's when i really started to notice how much i hated it. that's probably why i quit after finishing endwalker and why gw2 feels much more repeatable - because the combat (and actually mounts) always feels great. i actually find it fun to farm things in gw2 while hating it in ffxiv. but the opposite is also true. love going through the story in ffxiv while in gw2 for the most part it's pretty mediocre. Thanks @vallun for helping me process :)
FFXIV feels repetitive with each new patch, offering the same content with only minor changes. We get a new EX primal, a new dungeon, and more allied society quests, but it quickly becomes monotonous. The gear progression is also underwhelming, and the game would benefit from more innovation rather than simply recycling the same content with different skins.
It's official. I don't think I've ever seen a FF retrospective video with the Tidus laugh. Never. For a whole god damn decade. Its barely 3 seconds long, but I hate it. FF youtubers, it's been over 20 mf years since that scene debuted. Let it fucking go.
I was about to go mad if u didnt mention the free trial lmao (shoulda put it in monetization section) scaring people with big time commitment and a lot of money like bro just forgot people dont need to spend money for awhile
I'm not an FF14 player and I never played any, but when I see the rotation and the bloated skills (ex: the "basic attacks" for melee and the positionals like wtf) it felt annoying to play. It feels like even if you unlock all of the classes, you need to master 1 class in order to be useful in a raid (unless you are a veteran with years of experience) 😅
It depends on what you want out of it. If you want to get into endgame raiding then yeah, you need to know your job, but that's pretty universal for most MMOs. But if you just want to play casually, you can just have an "improvised" rotation where you just push buttons as they come off cooldown and you can get through 99% of the content in the game while still contributing. If you decide to try it, I'd recommend trying with a controller. It dramatically changes the feel of the combat. I personally hate the combat on m/kb, but the crossbar system for controller is really good. It's literally the only game I play with a controller.
I think that's basic for all MMOs? But all class in this game have that 1 ignored positional skill. Or just be mages/healer or tanks. Tanks positional is just you need to be in their faces all the time.
They need to prune the ARR story a lot to allow newbs quicker access to the later expansions. Arr is boring ASF anyways and you shouldn't have to be forced to suffer thru the story or be forced to buy a story skip. There's other options but SE doesn't wanna do it. I played for 9 yrs so I suffered through ARR story when then quest line was double what it is now.
I started xiv in 2.0, and honestly this game is trash and a waste of time. The game is too homogenized and barely classifies as an mmo anymore, not only is there zero difference between players playing the same class (every blm plays the same as any other), but the classes within roles have become almost identical too, with rotations being made simpler than ever in DT. The MSQ is an utter slog, and with years of content being piled up and the level cap increasing along with it, the idea of going through an msq that consists of 'run here, talk to this npc, interact with this object and kill 2 enemies' for literal weeks on end sounds like a foreign concept, I guarantee you about 95% of max level players bought a boost, which is how SE wants it for max profitability. It became clear to me as a veteran player that SE sees this game as nothing more than a cash cow, through and through. They've taken strides to make the game as accessible as possible to appeal to a broader audience, and also to make it as profitable as possible, as if you dig deeper, this game is monetized more aggressively than most mmos nowadays. Save yourself the time and either don't play or quit. This game is overshadowed by so many other games in so many different ways that it's laughable, it deeply saddens me that this game will never reach its true potential because of the piece of trash company that controls it.
That depends on what you find to be good. There are plenty of people who enjoy it from the start. If the things you're into don't come along until later on, that's just personal preference. When the game came out(A Realm Reborn not 1.0) it was praised quite a bit, but I think as time goes on and because of how good it becomes later, the earlier parts get saddled with being the "worst" parts. Due to the expectation of what comes later and changing trends in gaming. Not helped by the community constantly saying, "It gets better in Heavensward, just get through ARR." It was good in its time and because it's technically the same game, it gets judged by modern day standards as a whole. Standards that stand upon the back of what A Realm Reborn achieved in its time.
As a person who bought a skip for ARR, watched all the cutscenes and have enjoyed the game ever since, I wholeheartedly agree lol. ARR quest design and the leveling experience (at least from 1-50) really need to be reworked from the ground up, not just removing things here and there and call it a day.
@@sanguin3 They definitely could benefit from updating the onboarding process. It was fine when it was all there was, but now that there are officially as many levels in expansions as in the base game(1-50 and 50-100) they need to rebalance the beginning's quality.
I tried to play it. I played ~5 hours. This game is so empty! no players at all! During my 5 hours play I only saw 2 other players! The game is very hard to understand how to play it. Zero explanation what to do and how. I fegure it myself "oh, to fight you first select and then right click and then click on the boxes random". Too many quest type icons and colors and I don't know why. Quests are so useless. Mostly because it's very hard to find something in the world. Most of them time you just go kill mobs forever. I'm now level 13 but it's not letting me to register other professions while it should let you to do it once you level 10. Game money is by extreme hard to make then on any other game! I guess that they want you to buy game money on their store. I saw a level 8 quest that ask me to buy a lot of gear for tons of game money just to start the quest! I'll take me forever, and I'll be level 25-30 to get that money just to buy the gear to start a level 8 quest. Crazy. The problem is that I forgot where was the goblins tribe at, so I can't do money at all. To much for me to continue playing and this game is too boring. Kill kill kill forever the same mobs and maybe one day you'll have enough money to do one level 8 quest.
i tried to give this game a shot but it had the most horrific graphics i have witnessed despite everything being on max setting. simply could not convince myself to play the game
Reckon you would've enjoyed the PvP more if you played before the rework. FFXIV is too much of a slog outside of the story to me. It's just not an MMO.
FF14 in 3 words: Abstruce but fun. Never returning on principal however. Squaresoft essentially ripped me off. Took my money for the 3rd Xpac, which made it impossible for me to log in for some reason. Communicated with support for a week. They made it clear they had no interest or intention to resolve the issue. So I stopped trying, cancelled my sub and they got a free, unused xpac purchase from me. Fuck that company.
The thing is, MMOs nowadays need to be at least somewhat casual-friendly, and FFXIV is not. If you stop playing for a little while, you fall way behind and can’t keep up. Plus, the endgame is terrible, and every mid-to-end expansion suffers from content drought. The zones feel dead, and the gameplay is really dull cause there's no diversity of builds. I quit FFXIV for GW2, and honestly, it was one of the best decisions I've made.
? This is one of the easiest games to go back to. It’s more of a story/RPG than an MMO. They literally designed it to be put down. I do understand the story takes time to get through, but saying it’s full of content droughts AND there’s no time to catch up doesn’t make any sense. I agree about endgame and builds though.
@@Skyace13 I respect your opinion, bro, and I agree with a lot of what you said. I had a hard time finding exciting content to do post Endwalker, and I just couldn't do it. I end up rping lol. Right now, GW2 fits my style and schedule better, and that's okay.
@@tekenagakunYeah same honestly. I wasn’t feeling it after endwalker and the end game doesn’t excite me. But I don’t think it’s something I couldn’t go back to.
@@Skyace13 let's put it this way, FF14 is a casual MMO insofar as most games nowadays are casual, but if we look at the competition like ESO, GW2, and even Runescape is more casual of a game. It's all relative, and people who are looking for a casual game will gravitate elsewhere even if some of them will still be able to play casually in ff14. I also feel this is a result of fomo, because new players have to "catch up" and veteran players just need to gobble up whatever is thrown at them. Vertical progression that keeps building on itself over time can create emergent problems, and if the game persists for several more years and expansions I can't imagine the mountain that new players will need to approach. SqEnix will need to rework the systems to allow you to play the story optionally.
Lots of skills and with each expansion, more and more skills are added... the result is at least 5 hotbars, just like WOW. For this reason, the game becomes boring
@@JDerpyDoesStuff It may not make sense to you, but it makes a lot of sense to me and many others who don't like millions of skills on the bar. GW2 you only have 5 weapon skills and 5 utilities, in some classes you have 2~5 extra buttons, in other words, in activity you have a maximum of 15 skills. In FFXIV you have classes that easily exceed this number of 15 skills (Ninja, Samurai, Mechanist, Paladin, Astrologian), just as there are classes that you press a maximum of 5 skills (Dragon, Reaper, Red Mage, Dark Knight, White mage). It doesn't make sense to have skills that buff other skills and using that buffed skill without the buff makes you deal less damage and spend more mana, so it doesn't make sense to use it without the buff, in which case instead of there being another skill why couldn't it be incorporated into the same skill that buffs it? just like the AION system, where a skill used at a certain time enables another. Search REDDIT about this, there are several threads asking for a skill merge system
Tried playing this game like 5 different times when there was nothing else to play and still can’t get through ARR. I told myself I would play one month of FF14 to give the game a fair shot, and even though I had negative preconceptions I ended up enjoying the game a lot, so much that I will continue playing through all the expansions, at least until I don't have fun anymore. Be sure to like this video and subscribe if you want to see more videos like this for any game, or check out when I livestream (where I get all the footage for this video).
It's good that you recommend this game, there is much more value in playing ff14 than playing gw2
@@TH-camChillZonehow about playing one and switch to the other when you get bored?
GW2 and FFXIV both offer something entirely different (linear story vs immersive open world or insane encounter design vs more dynamic gameplay).
Dynamic?! Fight in GW 2 has always been about stacking under the boss, the only thing that has changed since 2012 is that you no longer have to aggro in the corner 💀🤣
The only place where there is dynamics is pvp

veterans don't realize or remember just how hard this game can be to get into. a lot of people won't have the time required to even start the journey to get to parts that are conventionally enjoyable for the typical MMO audience. it's a story game first and foremost and when viewed alongside other banger MMOs, it can look like the game doesn't respect your time and tbh that'd be exactly true. plus taking into account all the optional stuff to grind out to get things as basic as dyeable fingernails. or the terribly bloated ability progression. or the annoying level sync butchering your class into pieces across multiple level brackets that you may not like *coughs in black mage*.
i'm obviously saying all this as someone who has put in a ton of time and energy into the game. it's not as good as it could be and fans act like it is. thankfully but unfortunately, the veneer has worn thin with dawntrail and people are finally comfortable with criticizing the game. it's a fantastic world to get immersed in but think of what you want out of it first and stack it up next to other options.
I play xiv for the pve, i play gw2 for the pvp/wvw. Easy.
seems like a common trend to be honest. At least for those who are looking for more than one can offer.
Ive played pretty much every single mmo available for the past 8 years. FF14 is my favorite and my main game at the moment.
At least there is something to do and each class plays differently.
Archeage was to. Best pvp mmo I’ve played that required you to give your soul to it. Too bad it got worse and worse as years progressed. So now im stuck pve in ffxiv lol
@@WhatNoiseFishMakes each class plays the same every veteran is complaining avout the heavy homogenisation of classes
I bought the complete edition yesterday.. going in today for the first time! wish me luck
Enjoy your journey through the game!!
As a fellow veteran since 2.0 (partial 1.0) this game is an amazing game for new and older players.
The important golden rules to follow when playing this game -
By the time u reach endgame, ur gonna be pressing so many skills, u might as well get a certify licence to even play the job masterfully (Mentor status)
If your worried about pay for a game u might not like, that's where the Free Trials for the base game and the 2 expansion are free to play without using your credit card.
But the biggest killee for motivation is actually starting up an account. We all went thru this and never has changed
I played this game 7 years. Never again. Combat is boring af. The only thing that kept me hooked was the social activities with my guild.
Same. I wound up picking up City of Heroes
Yes the start is slow and mundane, but I think that helps you get you attached. By the time things start ramping up I was spitting mad to protect my peoples I had spent hours fetch questing for. 😅
“Just play for 100 hours it gets good!”
Gamers deserve slop at this point. Good lord.
But its understandable that type of gameplay isn't for everyone, or takes too long to finally get to
Ffxiv to me just feels pointless in everything i do, nothing has impact, unless they change this i dont think its for me, i prefer 11
Oh and the fans are literally a cult.
i tried to like this game for 4 years and I just gave up after the endwalker story, felt like a good stopping point.
Same. I kept coming back to try it again. It just isn't that fun to level and be in the world and boosting isnt fun either. Big miss for me
You literally played the best part of it.

"Where were the eels?" Even Aurora is up.
Iwanted to get into it, but the games too bloated at this point. It felt like a job to learn what the hell to do.

Im having a lot of fun, started 6 weeks ago, had my hands tied up with WoW and GW2
TLDR: FF14 MSQ Good. FF14 Different type of MMO. Social Singleplayer game
Guys how often do they release expansions? Like i want to buy it now but if theres any talk about new expansion i rather wait
theres usually 4 patches per expansion, they are still on the first patch of the latest expansion so now is the time to buy, but if you havent bought any expansions then just play the free trial for now
Just use the free trial. You get the base game and the first 2 expansions. With unlimited playtime.
but why did you include ffx in ffxiv? i love it still
ARR to EW is amazing story wise, I started ff14 in HW and after finishing DT story I canceled my sub.
It'll take a minimum of 350 hours of gameplay to reach the endgame (While not skipping story)
FF14 is an amazing title, but suffers from "One Piece Syndrome."
Mmo and respecting time?
I'd say buy a Storyskip but skipping literally *any* part of the story, will dampen the impact of Endwalker and how good it is. It's by far the best of the expansions in my eyes and wraps everything up.
I'm a die-hard fan of this game (prolly cause it saved my life 2 times) but even I must say, that A realm Reborn and Heavensward are pretty slow and sluggish. x_x

if you're not interested in the story this game isn't for you.

Sure, but you can literally apply this statement
"it's playerbase has convinced itself it's the best game ever and it has the best community ever. If you don't agree with that you are a bigot and they will harrass you"
applies to any toxic community, barring League of Legends (because they know their game sucks)

fun "at any time" - the two times I tried to login recently I had to wait for a slot on the server and bootet up gw2 instead
And then came Dawntrail, and those two shared a spot for me 🤣
Im on the edge of getting into heavensword but wow it takes time to get there. Not a complaint just an observation, really enjoying my time!
my favorite mmo but the paid subscription just isn't worth it to me anymore.

It's literally the only game I play with a controller.
you make no sense, you say in your first 5 words that you never played, then you say "it felt annoying to play" .... did you play or not?
The classes are a lot easier to play than other mmos imo it really not that bad
I think that's basic for all MMOs?
But all class in this game have that 1 ignored positional skill.
Or just be mages/healer or tanks. Tanks positional is just you need to be in their faces all the time.
oof, here's another boring opinion on how "the game gets good after 100 hours"🙄
I don't think its a boring opinion, its a reality about something that is boring xD
XIV wasn't bad until Dawntrail. NOW, it's just bad.
This game is overshadowed by so many other games in so many different ways that it's laughable, it deeply saddens me that this game will never reach its true potential because of the piece of trash company that controls it.
play for the amazing story, stay for the modding scene
If a game need 50 or 100 hours to be good. Then its not a good game.
Man never played an mmo
I would agree however, when you’re playing a game for 5k+ hours, what’s 50-100? The warm up of this game is longer than most games entirely.

FFXIV curing your insomnia...
i tried to give this game a shot but it had the most horrific graphics i have witnessed despite everything being on max setting. simply could not convince myself to play the game
Reckon you would've enjoyed the PvP more if you played before the rework. FFXIV is too much of a slog outside of the story to me. It's just not an MMO.
i got bored because I got too rich selling stuff in the market. It got boring.
ffxiv is king. you got a bad take on this. there are legit critiques to make, but you only made like 1 and half good pieces of critique gg
and how many were bad critiques and how so
FF14 in 3 words: Abstruce but fun.
GW2 is awful. There is no progression and it's p2w. Pretty much casual haven
Lots of skills and with each expansion, more and more skills are added... the result is at least 5 hotbars, just like WOW. For this reason, the game becomes boring
That makes 0 sense

@@Vallunhey that’s my phrase!
Tried playing this game like 5 different times when there was nothing else to play and still can’t get through ARR. Idk where these people get the “oh you have to read everything it builds up the whole story” it’s a bunch of broken old english gibberish the entire time. They say names of people you have no idea of who they are. Ole yeewishwasher of nightendong has cometh upon the blessings of carrot corn weep wrap! it’s like please just stfu and get on with the story
The Game is clearly not for you than
