I totally agree for higher levels, however given how blm doesn’t have any «combos» and is alot more open ended than more or less any other job in the game, i do find it adorable in a way when i find a low level sprout blm stumble around
BLM was so annoyed at being called out he just left without even waiting for the loot box and missed A FULL DROP BOX. The crazy instant karma there is kinda hilarious.
That was certainly a high movement BLM the way he just dodged all advice and the willingness to improve. I thought BLM was about standing around and taking damage and improving by standing their ground (when improving).
@@CaetsuChaijiCh Thing is, you can get suspended for asking someone to play a certain way or do their rotation correctly. It takes less energy not to care lol.
@@ねこ男の子 Asking, no. Telling, yes. There's a distinct difference between saying to someone "Hey you need to play the job this way" and "Hey have you tried playing the job this way?" If simply asking was enough grounds to be suspended, then many a (good) mentor would stop going out of their way to help people
Gotta love those “You don’t pay my sub, so don’t f**king tell me how to play!” types. Like my grandpa used to say, “The day you choose to stop learning, they may as well put you in the ground.”
Wipes in casual content, especially for silly reasons, make for a good laugh. When the party is light hearted about it, it makes for an overall enjoyable experience. Seeing the full event with the Braflox boss got some memories going.
For the "tank main" black mage, my guess would be that they glanced at the tool tip and saw that blizzard 4 and fire 4 have similar potencies but fire 4 has a longer cast time, not realizing that fire stance boosts the fire damage significantly.
probably correct in that assumption. the only times astral/umbral is mentioned (to my knowledge) is the tutorial popup at level 2 when fire 1 is unlocked or if you look in your traits at aspect mastery. with it being probably the hardest job to learn, Astral/Umbral NEED to be mentioned in the tooltips all the fire spell tooltips need to say something like 'increased potency per astral fire stack' and then for ice spells 'increased MP gain per umbral ice stack'
Not Reading Tooltips is a Certification of Tradition at this point. Like I can understand when words look like alphabet soup, but man, people DO need to look at the Tooltip and Traits tab because how the F, do people just ignorantly play a class like another MMO (powerleveling to the LvCap and just glowing Endgame Raids) feels like it's the Norm?
@@BanditZRaverok but in this specific example reading the tooltips wouldn’t have helped here. The information needed is NOT on the tooltip, it’s on the “Job Gauge Description” or the Active Help menu when you first unlock the gauge. If you read all the BLM tooltips, you’d have no idea that Fire spells did more damage than ice ones. Personally I think a good solution would be “potency 320, astral fire 1 potency X, astral fire 2 potency Y” etcetcetc. Kinda like how melees have Potency, combo potency, positional potency, and positional+combo potency all listed on the tooltip.
@HammerAndSickled true, but reading the tooltips on Fire spells and Ice Spells will always refer back to "Astral Fire/ Umbral Ice" and if you're seeing words being repeated that many times, it's up to the Reader/Player to also look for those words.
@@HammerAndSickled like in the tooltip for Aspect Mastery I, II, and III, where it states that "it allows the stacking of AF or UB and the number of Stacks determine what you get.
When I picked up black mage and leveled it high enough to enter dungeons I oddly had people telling me I should only be using ice and their reason was the same as the first black mage in the video. Seemed pretty weird to me especially since the first thing I did was look for your guides on it because I didn't want to unintentionally grief any party I was in by simply lacking knowledge. I'm no pro black mage but at the very least I never fell into the ice mage trap. Also thank you for those guides, they helped a ton!
I think this comes from a previous BLM build (around SHB era) where spamming Freeze was higher damage than cycling into your Fires for aoe. These days its not true, but a lot of people don't update their info.
Puddor is right about this, although there is a bit more to the story! In the level range where you had freeze, but not umbral hearts unlocked, if not until level 72 where the aspect mastery trait was learned (now at level 1), it was often better for aoe to just spam freeze. But that was still just a level range, albeit a very long one! 😂
I had great gubal library run yesterday where the tanks gear was all below lv50. I didn’t notice at first because they were playing surprisingly well and I just blamed myself when they got low because ast is probably the hardest job for me. Its a miracle they didn’t die tbh but they did have to invuln several times. I told them about their gear and they understood which I respect then for. I don’t mind mistakes at all but when people refuse to acknowledge them then it becomes a problem
Another important note on not running to the literal wall in dungeons, is that mobs will become spread out in a line while chasing the tank. If the party has already started attacking, this will results in a lot of the aoes missing half of the mobs, wasting even more time as your entire burst could be wasted.
Wait, there are people who think that the last boss in Skydeep is just a coin flip for the half room cleaves? Wow I thought the bright flash of "this is gonna hurt" light was pretty well telegraphed. √(-•-)\
It really makes me sad that there is this weird tendency for players to do this, where for some reason it's okay to not learn black mage 😰 I really like the job too so that's just double pain!
Maybe it's a sort of BLM strike like Healerstrike xD I'm a THM before they added the job system in 1.0 and been BLM ever since 1.19. That blms are getting so out damaged by PCT 5 months in may be making blms go on a strike and play crappy and see if the critics get their words picked up by Devs and finally make the proper changes BLM players have been asking for to fix it without just adding instant casts. That they make fights soooo stupidly movement heavy is annoying. Make them do something else than move move move xD
BLM has always seemed to uniquely been unintuitive to pick up. Getting caught in the "I should spam Fire 3 instead of Fire 1" at level 50 is still very common.
@@thehermitwizardSprout here; is it because fire 1 costs less and has a faster cast time, and you can in theory slot more potency than fire III in one full mana bar? I’m like lvl 41 atm. Fire 3 feels so satisfying to use though
There must be a school for Ice-Magic BLMs somewhere out there. Just the other day I had a Prae run with a BLM who only used ice spells and then Flare alternating. This was so strange. Keep up the good content! Your mentor roulettes always brighten my day!
To be fair : The in-game skill descriptions say that Blizzard 4 does 320 potency and Fire 4 also does 320 potency damage, so unless you know the hidden Astral Fire damage multiplier (or read the Job Gauge description, which however is rather vague in how much it amplifies fire), many BLM newbies might assume that both skills do the same damage. Thunder description also is not very intuitive : It says Thunder 1 deals 100 potency and 45 potency with a 24 second duration (it does NOT say "100 potency on initial hit and for 24 seconds 45 potency every 3 seconds"). A new player might conclude that it only deals a total of 145 potency over 24 seconds, which is less than a single fire 1 or blizzard 1 cast.
For newbies, sure. But I feel like level 95 is far enough along to expect someone to know better. It's not like Summoner/Scholar where you can level up one job without actually having to play it
For that BLM in the cenote, try out the fire phase and dumping all your mp in whatever manner you deem fit then get back into ice phase and observe mp recovery on every ice spell cast. This is the first steps towards the fabled max deeps
5:05 tell that to the healer and DPS I got harassed by for dying as warrior because all of my cooldowns were down because I was receiving absolutely no healing from the sage and the DPS were taking forever to kill pulls. I legit rotated and spaced out just about every mit I had and still died, and died again after getting rezzed cause the SGE still wasnt healing me. But nope, its my fault for dying cause WAR is immortal and doesnt need any healing in a dungeon so me dying us embarrassing and I'm a shitty mentor. For the record it was the level 93 dungeon so the SGE had plenty of off globals to chuck at me but they weren't
People not noticing the Skydeep Cenote BLATANTLY GLOWING FISTS is insane. I'm not the best player myself, but at level 95 you should be able to understand the mechanic after dying to it twice, tops.
So.. what if you spot the glowing fists, but not which started glowing first? >.> That was my problem the.. 2 (maybe 3?) whole times I've run that dungeon. Heh. That and having my attention spread between mechanics and health bars of others who didn't know what to expect either because it was their first times. Obviously, was the healer in the party. Luckily my tank buddy did see which went first, and just called it out for me when I wasn't catching it.
@orciencor6001 the best you can do if you miss both which fist glows first, and second (since that would imply the other fist glowed first), is hope someone else saw and move with the group and pray! 😅
I also got one of those infamous Ice Mages in Qitana Ravel the other day on Primal. I noticed because everything was taking forever to die. Only B3/B4, no Freeze, no Foul/Xeno. When I gently suggested to use Fire spells and Ice is only really used to recover MP I got told to "STFU". Mega "Thou payest not mine sub" vibes. They were not a sprout nor returning player. The entire run took over 30 mins. Some people man.
Not an Ice Mage, but I got a really similar situation with a Black Mage who kept using Sleep on pack mobs. I also got a STFU when asked to please stop. I just left. I'd rather take the 30 min penalty than to help someone like this finish a duty. Sorry to the other two.
For the last boss of Sohm Al, I believe that raidwide burst is part of a "soft" enrage. Basically, it blasts people for a good chunk of, but not lethal, damage as a bright, flashy thing that I think is also supposed to demonstrate to people who don't stop attacking the *immune* boss over the wings that they're doing something wrong. Even when it was current content, it was never really dangerous.
It never baffles me any less seeing some things players do, especially in high level content. I've had a SMN in EW trials that didn't summon Carbuncle and just spammed ruin and got mad when players were like "What are you doing?", the amount of SGE and DNC players that don't put their mark on anyone, or SGE that kardia themselves, BLM definitely has these issues more than most, it hurts when players really cone off like they didn't even attempt to read or just look at what other players are doing. No one expecta perfecting but you cannot be the ice mage in level 90+ content getting mad that others are looking at you crazy.
Gilded Araya is special to me, because im on Dynamis and couldnt even get the duty to fill, so i had to run it unsynced after 7.0 on my GNB. Took me about an hour as i wasnt optimal (still learning the kit) and to learn the mechanics. Overall really fun, got it in a duty roulette the other night and its so much easier with 7 other players lol
14:24 slight correction. The Guilded Araya *does* drop a triple triad card. And currently, the duty is the only place to obtain it via rare drop chance, on kill, directly into your inventory. So, it does have a reason to run more than once, for *most* players.
feel like personally a job not being your main is no excuse to play it poorly especially if you get to high level duties. whenever a new expansion comes out and i have to start the tradition of maxing out my jobs i always take a few minutes to look up a basic rotation guide on jobs im less familar with and then spend a few more minutes practicing a single target and aoe rotation on a striking dummy all and all it doesnt take more then 20 mins to do and will go a long way of at least being decent at it
Don't even have to look up guides, just try your buttons out at all and get a feel for how things work. No one is asking for perfect rotations in dungeons (though it is appreciated), but neglecting half your abilities is just wild.
I'm embarrassed to admit it, but when i first started playing black mage, as in when i was still a thaumaturge, i actually thought you were meant to alternate between using fire and ice to make sure your mana stayed top off. Fortunately i learned my error before i started doing any dungeons past Tam Tara. I'm certain i got some weird looks from people though.
4:06 And this is why I don't offer unsolicited advice anymore. Especially on NA, the odds of someone blowing up on you for it are way higher than them actually understand what you're saying and why you're saying it.
When it comes to Black Mages like the ones today, I've found that the crucial moment is always asking "Why are you/aren't you doing X?" If it's someone who ends up not knowing better, or thinks they cane up with something but is unsure, a gentle nudge in the right direction and some back and forth talk usually sets them straight, and they seem grateful for it. If it's someone like the Skydeep Cenote Black Mage, however, I've honestly learned to save my breath. It's not worth the effort when someone doesn't want to listen, so I just bite my tongue and get through instances like that as fast as otherwise possible
@@CaetsuChaijiCh I agree with OP. You kind of are contradicting yourself. I told you in another comment it's easier not to care. But you made them the focus of this video. And reacted to a comment saying ''The moment you stop learning, is the moment you put me in the ground.'' So you think he should be dead because he can't play BLM? Even as a joke that's like, opposite of not caring.
@ねこ男の子 it is easier not to care. But I care anyway. That's why I approached them, and even TRIED to continue the conversation after they had clearly demonstrated there was no point. The quote you are also misunderstanding and over interpreting: the way I interpreted it was that the moment you choose to stop learning in life, is a kind of death of its own, as it means you stop growing as a person. That's the way I understood it.
My goodness, you expect people to Cooperate? In this MMORPG Coop Game? Ridiculous! /s Jokes aside wow that's a lot of Black Mages messing up...and you were a White Mage...I don't know what to make of this
had a black mage yesterday that was single targeting, and dropped when asked why! i was even a whm too. funny to have this come out immediately after XD
my advice for ice mage would be worded as "fire stance gives you double damage. Ice stance gives you MP back" Not quite accurate, but short and sweet and basically impossible to misunderstand.
That Black Mage was using literally less than HALF of their moveset.... I don't even like playing Black Mage (and as such am pretty bad at it), but I know even I would do better than that!
Arguably pulling the last pack of a pull right to the wall sometimes doesn't even save any time for the movement, since I feel like for most dungeons the distance is relatively small and find you can often cover that extra distance in the last GCD or two as the last couple of mobs die. You can also feel less bad about the leylines on that cenote pull, since 76 is when Black Mages get their "BLM Adjust" ability to reposition them once. Still lost some time in its duration in the run to the wall, but a reasonable BLM will just move the leylines and continue blasting. I can't imagine playing BLM without the satisfaction of its big fire booms.
96, not 76 for retrace, the argument is still valid, the guy is just a turbo shitter, the kind to turn clear parties into trap parties and universally blacklisted
I don’t know how you could possibly go into a duty finder with absolutely no concept of how a job works. Just take a few minutes watch a. Guide and spend a few minutes on a dummy so you at least have an idea of what you’re supposed to be doing. It’s just common courtesy
Man that BLM gets me so riled up. In so many multiplayer games there is a subset of players that just REFUSE to try. I'm not asking you to try-hard, I'm just asking you to try.
Very interesting that Black Mages seem to fall into that trap. I always look up rotation guides for classes I play. Not that always follow it but so I’m not unintentionally grief my team. I want the duty to go as smoothly as anyone else does and I figured looking up basic rotations is the least I could do.
"It's not my main, therefore I don't have to try." "It's not that noticeable." My brother/sister of Hydaelyn, YOU ARE PLAYING BLACK MAGE AT LV 90+. If you're not using half your toolkit at that level, then you are not dpsing correctly. And I say this primarily as a healer main/omni classer. Failing a rotation or not being optimal on buttons is one thing; we all fumble and if it's not your main job, it's just part of the leveling pain. But being dismissive and not even making an effort to be educated on what your job class can do is ridiculous.
That blow up in Brayflox is hilarious, that kind of "gotcha" is always a great moment. My personal favorite accidental wipe is with the first boss in Dun Scaith, where if you kill it _just_ as the knockback into ice walls is happening, the ice despawns and everyone falls to their doom. But hey, at least there the clear still counts!
I've had that happen but I either had used arms length or gap closed to cancel the KB to greed the boss so I was the only one who lived. I'm still laughing about it to this day
I actually review clips every now and then on my walk and talk streams, which does involve me giving advice on what to do and what not to do. Although that is of course a live stream! There is a room to send clips on the channels discord server (link in the description and on the channel page!) Although I also understand wishing for the analysis, versus receiving it can be a much more scary proposition! 😂
@CaetsuChaijiCh coming from WOW where you instantly get flamed when you make a mistake, ff14 players can sometimes be a little to nice. They see you make a mistake and just adjust their own play to compensate. I think you mentioned it before how much can be covered by a good healer for example. I wouldn't be sure when to take a clip for review since I am not aware when I mess up. I just know that some pulls get really scuffed.
3:50 Stuff like this is pretty crazy. There are always gonna be people that have HUGE misconceptions about the game and don't really want to learn to change anything. A much more toxic example of this happened to me a couple weeks ago when a really toxic dps was being rude to a marauder in SATASHA. He didn't like how slow they were going and how "bad" they were doing.. And one of the things he ended up saying was that they should never be getting out of AOEs since tanks can just tank them. ... I looked at his search info and of course he had no tanks over lvl 50 other than gunbreaker which was 60
Regarding sprint during combat - sometimes first trash pack is dying so fast that my sprint button is not ready for the second pull, so I have to use it during pull.
That makes perfectly good sense. If it is a duty you know well, sometimes sprinting extra early before the first pull can mean that sprint is ready in time before the second pull. But that is a different level of optimization! I usually only point it out when I see someone that clearly had sprint ready, waiting to sprint till they are in combat! 😁
Man I really wish I had run into somebody willing to tell me I was playing Black Mage wrong so I didn't get all the way to bardem's meddle to realize I'm supposed to be switching with fire and blizzard 3 instead of transpose. I either completely missed the single time it tells you those have reduced cast times or the game doesn't even tell you that that's the case so it wasn't until I randomly was hovering over the skill and read the tool tip and noticed that the cast time was significantly lower than it normally is
Maybe you should use that option in the menu to only show the initials of peoples' characters. Drama is always just around the corner for youtubers, so trying to not put names on people playing (and sometimes behaving) at their worst might prevent something unexpected blowing up in your face at some point. Just a thought. I'm really sorry if this sounds vaguely like a threat. 😅
I get it. I believe that having the names hidden like that has this weird effect of dehumanizing them on screen, which tends to invite people to get crueler. Besides, if someone is acting like this frequently enough, people recognize them on their behavior alone, not even their name. It is difficult because I also see the value in the anonymity, but in MOST cases, I only meet people that either it doesn't matter, or I need their names to praise them instead 😰😊 I hope this makes sense.
I did mentor yesterday as PCT and SMN, got 35 guildhests! And then 6 trials, and the new lvl 100 dungeon. I normally like doing 10 duties, but i don't like to count guildhests. But they were so abundant
7:24 if you look at the enmity list, you will see tioman cast dark star. This is the raidwide damage that hit your group, has nothing to do with the wings. If you kill the wings before it completes casting the cast will be cancelled but it is not related to a dps check. If your dps is low he could do more casts of dark star, its just ilvl sync being so broken nowadays usually you can skip any raidwide damage.
I see the Black Mage has the classic "I don't care if it affects others" mentality. I wish people wouldn't take things to heart when others are trying to help them but what can you do. Lol. Like.. I main tank too but that doesn't give me an excuse to just neglect other player's time when I'm a dps. Hopefully they were just having a bad day and they're not like this usually.
That's my big thing. I think it's incredibly rude when someone makes a duty take 10 or more minutes longer just because they don't want to try. I don't generally care if you're new and/or not great at a job, but when you A) are incompetent to the point where the duty takes substantially longer and then B) refuse to take any kind of advice to improve, then I have an issue.
This its imo also why i dont like the over protection from some white knights when a "poor sprout" get "bullied" from a toxic "elitist". _No one_ force them to play that Job, they pick it when someone starts to cry "BLM is to hard!" then they should play SMN or something else, when you make everything painfull slow because you cant do the bare minimum where you played the job atleast for Hours. (He can use Ice 4, Ley Lines so he also do the job story) _You_ are the problem not the "toxic" people, and i dont care in casual if a BLM maybe dropped his Astral Fire/Umbral Ice.. or overwrite a Fire 3.. Xenoglossy etc, but atleast seeing that they _try_ to play their job right is enough. And here we come to the point of the white knights, helping others is nice.. but when you help the wrong people you can also create "ignorant fools" that always put the blame on others.
Black Mage is an interesting Job - I've never played it myself but if it's true it changes 50,60,70,80 etc in how it plays that would actually make it the most interesting job. I hope the devs give Black Mage it's due with some well deserved buffs. I know it sounds silly and not good for "Balance" but Black Mage should always be the top casting/ranged dps in the game. It just feels right.
Personally I feel people exaggerate how often blm changes! In my opinion, it has major changes at 35(F3), 60(F4) and 90(paradox). There are other high notes on the way, I just don't feel they massively change the rotation! 😊 I am sure you could find it entertaining to explore! 😁
The big reason BLM isn't the highest dps caster is that picto is busted to a degree that needs to be nerfed (rather than other jobs being buffed to match) and it's based a bit more around sustain than the 2-minute meta, which varies in viability by fight (ie Ultimates have a lot of downtime, so they're worse for BLM). BLM will probably be in a better spot once Pictomancer gets the nerf-beating it needs at this point. I encourage you to pick up BLM if you're interested! It does have some major shifts based on level, but every ten levels is an exaggeration.
You can lead a horse to water... If I give someone advice and they don't take it then unless they are affecting the run in some frustrating ways I consider my work here done. They either learn eventually or end up in a twitter post months later calling out their 131 uses of Higanbana and 4 Midare against Rubicante.
In a bit of fairness to the Flare mage, the tooltip does say it uses 10,000 MP. When I first got it I couldn’t figure out how you could possibly add it to your rotation since it uses all your MP. It took me a while to understand that it only needs 800 MP, but that it will use whatever you have remaining. However, I used Duty Support rather than subject an actual party to that 😅 they really should update Flare and Despair’s tooltips, something like 800 / ALL MP and explain in the description that it’s a minimum of 800 needed to cast and will use everything over that.
I've had this same fight multiple times with various people in my world's novice network. Some people will insist that people like that first blm shouldn't be held accountable at all, that them making a duty take substantially longer is in no way rude to the other people in the duty. They'll argue that even offering the most gentle of feedback to try and get players like that black mage to improve is flat out reportable. Like, no one is expecting the randos they get in roulette to be a purple parsing god with their job, but some bare bones basic competency shouldn't be too much to ask for, right? Or at the very least, letting mentors, you know, mentor people so they can get to that bare bones compentency. Side note, as an actual Black Mage main, watching these black mages and hearing their reasons for doing what they were doing hurts me inside.
The thunder proc thing might also be a relic of the weird reapplication timing of thunder in endwalker where you could get the extra damage because it applied instantly. People gotta assume every time there is a new expansion their job plays fundamentally differently, even if it doesnt...but no one does lol.
In my opinion, White Mage would have been Alomomola. They are generally known for high Wish heals and Flip Turns to Pokemon that can deal damage, not unlike a classic Final Fantasy White Mage.
I mained BLM up to the end of arr msq during ew and kept it on tap until mid-StB for gear reasons and it's so wild to me that people don't even try to understand the job. It's not *that* complicated, and if you're confused there are guides out there for by-level rotations (I even sought them out because I wasn't sure what was best at one point). And there are alternate rotations even now but uh. None of the rotations in the video were them. Idk. I'm a tank/melee main now but I still play BLM, so it's a bit frustrating to see people not even try to play it mediocrely. I constantly forget I have aetherial manipulation, I shouldn't be better than a lot of blms I see out there. 😅
I actually had no idea about the sprint duration being different in combat vs out of combat. Now I'm thinking of all the inefficient dungeon pulls I've probably had over the years :')
Has the Black Mage heard of Scathe? I've heard it is incredibly good at level 96 specifically and only this one level. Not using LB means it belongs to whoever wants it after the fight and I will use it each and every time if I can. Actually, there is loot in Gilded Araya: A Triple Triad Card that drops randomly directly into the inventory. Not sure how many players care about it. I farmed the fight to get it. That tank was a vuln connoisseur. And I can understand why. Those are delicious. If I can get away with it without it being a burden on the healer, I collect them. Though this is limited to boss fates and the like where it is impossible for me to die if I am a tank and not the main tank. Although not being main tank is optional, most of these hit like a wet noodle anyway. So I attempt dodge all mechanics until I get a single vuln cookie, then I start collecting. If I don't have 8 by the time the enemy dies and/or can't maintain those for the rest of the fight, I failed. Shame on me.
honestly i think the black mage is just lazy. like if ice was better whats fire spells even in the game then? they trying to bs their laziness and uncareness
Fluid Aura is sad because it was the third element for Conjurer's "three natural elements" to contrast Thaumaturge's "three classic elements" -- Aero (Air/wind), Water, and Stone (Earth) vs Fire, Ice, and Lightning. It started life as a 150 potency with KB and Bind and was instant/30sec recast, and was the Lv15 Class Quest reward. And then there was the aforementioned nerfs, first in the name of "balancing the healers' dps" (removal of its damage), then the removal of the KB, and then removal of the ability. (Funny note: It's part of Y'shtola's kit in stuff like Dissidia NT, because she started as an NPC back in the day as a CNJ and would still have the old moves)
I remember when I first started levelling BLM, I had levelled it to 50 using the squadron and did some FATEs to be like "uh yeah I kinda get it"....... First duty roulette, MSQ for decent XP and not very big threat to get a feel of running after packs of mobs, I only spam F4 because "It's the biggest number on the tooltip!", manashifting, _then_ Blizzard 4 to blizzard 1 for full MP, then max fire 4 spam....... it was painful Thankfully your channel has been quite helpful on ironing out stuff like that ;;;;;; No one had commented on my Megumin style BLM but I wish they had because BLM is slowly rising as my favourite caster as I near 100 with it.
As far as not playing a job correctly... there's the extreme of "idk, I'm just going to hit buttons and not put in effort to actually learn the job" and the "i know how the job works, but i know i don't play it "correctly" and I'm not trying to play it correctly." while I understand the later category of not playing the job correctly, i don't understand the first. with as many jobs as there are, having a finite understanding of how a job works and being good at it and playing it "correctly" are 2 entirely different things. But not understanding the job, how it works and then just... winging it? yeah... That's just trolling at that point. you don't have to be perfect, you don't have to play the job correctly but you do have to at least put in effort to understand how it works. there are a few jobs i kinda just wing but understand what I'm supposed to do then just fail at every level because... well I'm not great at them. SMN for instance. I can't seem to get through all my summons after lunar bahamut summon. so... spell speed it its, still can't get through them...
SMN has a weird rotation. Spellspeed also reduces your bahamut recast timer, so your spells might be faster, but behamut comes up sooner, leaving basically the same tight window to fit everything inside it. There isn't a hard rotation, but you should be able to set up one primal after another and get through with 1 GCD cast to spare. Just practice and learn the cycling and you'll have it in no time
@panda6907 I would have assumed that bahamut was a set time, so an ability or some kind of special spell, and not affected by spell speed. The fact that it is, makes less sense. And when I mentioned this to NN no one thought to mention that Bahamut also comes up quicker with spell speed, despite that being my issue. Mentors can't help mentors, how do we help sprouts? lol. Edit: ty btw
@TheObsesedAnimeFreaks The only reason I know it is because I tried the exact same thing. It's just a cycle through Titan, Garuda, and Ifrit, depending on the situation. At 70+ I believe the timing works out to 1-2 extra spell casts of ruin3. Always happy to try and help
I'm just at the second duty of the video and I'm a bit flabbergasted at the mentality of that Black Mage. Like, I totally expect to play with players of all skill levels in Duty Finder, and I expect a lot of players are not looking at guides and simply trying to figure out how to use their skills on their own with varying results, but it really baffles me that someone would do that, come to the conclusion that a huge portion of your skills are not worth using, and then not immediately doubt the validity of their analysis. Wouldn't you at least go online or ask someone "hey, am I crazy or am I just supposed to just cast the same 2-4 spells in BLM's toolkit and ignore the rest?" Like, this isn't comparable to something like "Scathe is extremely situational and you want to press it as much as possible"...
I expected this to be your typical "Doesn't understand black mage so is playing poorly" It was not, in fact, that. It was "Has at least a cursory understanding of black mage and is just willfully insufferable."
That reminds me, I need to practice with some jobs I'm leveling… Ah, Brayflox's Longstop Hard. I was working on my relic last month, so I had to do this dungeon three times. The dungeon doesn't annoy me or anything, your video just made me think about it. That bomb clip is really funny!
I had trouble with the mirror boss at skydeep cenote when i did it as a BLM for the first time but everyone died at the last boss except me because i noticed that the glowing fists mechanic was from eden titan savage and it was the one mech you needed to learn when farming for that mount
I actually also had some issues with the mirror boss when I did it as BLM for the first time, but in fairness, that was also my first time in the dungeon ever! I also had issues with the glowing fists because I was not focusing too hard on it, but if I recall correctly, we also had issues with a healer disconnecting, so it sort of made things confusing in a different way!
WAIT WHAT?! I knew even without any guides that you're suppose to rotate your spells between fire and frost and that was back before I had gotten my job stone, on Black Mage that is, I mean they pretty much say that outright.
Dark Star from Tioman isn't a DPS check per se but you almost never see it because the wings are killed so fast these days, it is simply a raidwide that was used occasionally during wing phase.
i just got to the end of the video. How i would talk to a ice mage? I would mention that in fire you have a damage increase so the potencies with ice and fire LOOK kinda similar but, are bigger increase that you think. As a new black mage (and main, love it!!) its a little annoying that I bothered to learn the class and someone juat goes, "nah, ill use 4 buttons, its close enough." (when its not even close ofc)
Ohh! Gilded Araya! I did that as a duo unsync with another NN mentor. It was super fun to tank. Had to top up the buddy a few times cause they were on PCT.
I would attempt to point people to one of the most unsused pieces of content for testing their own damage, the stone, sky, sea dummies that were purpose built to test your skills against level synced content. They still may not go for it, but they could see the difference first-hand without dragging groups down in the process.
6:12 wasnt there a long time ... but a few weeks after release leveling an alt job got there and the tank "warned" the group because we had 1 first timer "be careful to not get pushed from the platform" that was his only hint ... i dont know how that should helped the first timer but i normaly never give tips before they ask or try it blind once so it was fine for me ... then the first knockback came ... and the tank is flying to like the next planet ... im so glad i was just the summoner and not the healer i was just down laughing ... not about his mistake but just the fact "yo be careful to not fall off" and then 10 seconds into the fight he fell off ... the only person in that whole fight .. maybe his warning helped .. but he should take care about his own warnings as well xDD 11:05 well for many people especially online its way easier to see mistakes from others and talk about it but seeing the own mistakes is often impossible and even if you tell them many people are like "oh yeah you know everything perfect shut up" 16:57 there is nothing i could explain to a blackmage beside from "you are a mage so you cast spells" ... im sure no blackmage need THAT explanation ... hopefully ;D there are a lot of jobs i know just a few things about ... and then there is blackmage .. i know i never liked him and its way to slow for my taste ... and thats the end of my knowledge xD
Seeing that black mage also be a hrothgar really hurts me. I love getting them in my roulettes because I am a hrothy myself and they aren't a race you see too often so it makes me sad when they act this way. :( Black mage isn't one of my personal favs either because I can find it overwhelming sometimes to upkeep with everything (though I know this is just lack of practice/experience more than anything). But when I play black mage I at least try my best to play it well and that obviously includes using your fire spells! I think you put it best. In content like dungeons you don't have to play 100% optimally all the time and it's okay to mess up. But refusing to use fire as a black mage in a lv 95 dungeon is very bad and very noticeable! Then to basically say "I don't have to do the basics of the job I'm playing currently because I main something else" is absurd! Imo bad players aren't the ones that mess up, it's the ones that don't even try.
You need to make a dungeon pull guide for tanks. I have the same pet peeves for tanks pulling mobs literally to the wall or just running one pack down a hall to nothing
When I'm learning a new dps I always try and figure out the way that the designers seemed to want me to do the rotation (all praise the combo indicator) before trying to optimize it.
I have markers for the last boss on Skydeep so people dont stand too far away for the knockback. In my experience, its people trying for too much of an angle, and not being able to get across for the other fist due to what ever reason. The edge of the blue circle for what ever reason.. seems to be trickery for many than one of those mechanics normally is.
When it comes to when to stop a pull, I also like to add that tanking a group of adds in a more open area is generally ideal. It gives casters room to keep their distance to maintain up time, while it gives melees flexibility in their position. Pulling all the way to the wall with an AoE heavy add group basically just forces melee to disengage for in the worst cases upwards of two GCDs depending on the severity of the AoEs at any given time. It all basically boils down to wall to wall not meaning to literally tank against the wall ultimately.
I'm not the type to look up and memorize the most optimal rotations, but I always try to optimize on my own and learn how stuff functions.. This game isn't exactly THAT difficult, so I can't imagine playing a job like Black Mage and just spamming freeze, like how boring is that? Plenty of ways to level a job you don't want to play outside of dungeons or trials.
That BLM has to have been griefing because they didn't like the dungeon. I can't believe someone gets to that level, knows enough that the dungeon is 'bad' for casters, does all the other mechanics perfectly but doesn't know how to play the job at all, BLM isn't THAT hard. Pure malice that should be reported in my opinion.
You might be right. Although I could see how much harder the duty feels if you're exclusively using B4 for bosses, and xenoglossy i guess. As that ironically makes you less mobile than had you also added in some fire!
Tanks that pull a bit, stops, only to run again few seconds later are the worst... Using Umbral Soul in fight isnt that much terrible idea. At level 50 you get 10k mana casting b1, but its better to use Umbral Soul when you are forced to move. Pretty legit, i do it too. Btw, you can use Scathe to move the bombs away. Scathe! Told you its useful. :)
Curious, regarding your Prae commentary. What does it matter if you heal 2 or 3 (4 etc) with your medica 2 if you gotta cast it, doesnt change the damage you can do after.
It's about making the most of each Heal you cast. If at least two players benefit from the healing, it is your most time efficient healing spell, assuming they can receive all the healing. If you use medica 2 too soon, some of the healing goes to waste, which means you will (probably) have to cast medica 2, or a different healing spell, again later, sooner, which does affect the damage you can do, since it costs you potentially more healing spells than you needed! 🤔😊
lore accurate white mage, immediately finds problem with black mages. It's time for new magi war
Lmao that is pretty funny now that you mention it! I've become the cat boy from the blm job quests! 🤣
Honestly, as a Black Mage main-I'd be on the White Mage's side because all that power and NO fire? NO EXPLOSIONS?! He brings shame on our house.
The *hardest* part of playing Black Mage is watching other Black Mages.
Honestly though, Black Mage was my starting class and it hurts to see people play it in such a bad way.
I totally agree for higher levels, however given how blm doesn’t have any «combos» and is alot more open ended than more or less any other job in the game, i do find it adorable in a way when i find a low level sprout blm stumble around
@@ZaraZela While we don't have any combos, we do have a rotation that works best.
@@simplydarkness2363 they're just saying its not AS spelled out the same way that combos are spelled out.
As someone learning all casters, as soon as I saw freeze twice in a row at level 96 i knew exactly what type of personality this guy would have
Man, I'm not great at blk but even I know you don't stay in ice longer then you have too. Manafont is sooo much better now is great
@@IKMcGwee the blm pain when watching that performance 😬
@@IKMcGwee Manafont being changed to refresh your hearts, astral fire, and mp all at once is insane, I love it.
BLM was so annoyed at being called out he just left without even waiting for the loot box and missed A FULL DROP BOX. The crazy instant karma there is kinda hilarious.
Well they also dodged my words of wisdom! 😂🤣
That was certainly a high movement BLM the way he just dodged all advice and the willingness to improve. I thought BLM was about standing around and taking damage and improving by standing their ground (when improving).
I like the Manafont at 6:09. Gotta keep that mana up!
@@CaetsuChaijiCh Thing is, you can get suspended for asking someone to play a certain way or do their rotation correctly. It takes less energy not to care lol.
@@ねこ男の子 Asking, no. Telling, yes.
There's a distinct difference between saying to someone "Hey you need to play the job this way" and "Hey have you tried playing the job this way?"
If simply asking was enough grounds to be suspended, then many a (good) mentor would stop going out of their way to help people
Gotta love those “You don’t pay my sub, so don’t f**king tell me how to play!” types. Like my grandpa used to say, “The day you choose to stop learning, they may as well put you in the ground.”
That is an excellent quote! 😁
And you are the type of ass who needs to get over the fact people can play how they like. Literally none of your business.
Wipes in casual content, especially for silly reasons, make for a good laugh. When the party is light hearted about it, it makes for an overall enjoyable experience. Seeing the full event with the Braflox boss got some memories going.
For the "tank main" black mage, my guess would be that they glanced at the tool tip and saw that blizzard 4 and fire 4 have similar potencies but fire 4 has a longer cast time, not realizing that fire stance boosts the fire damage significantly.
probably correct in that assumption.
the only times astral/umbral is mentioned (to my knowledge) is the tutorial popup at level 2 when fire 1 is unlocked or if you look in your traits at aspect mastery. with it being probably the hardest job to learn, Astral/Umbral NEED to be mentioned in the tooltips
all the fire spell tooltips need to say something like 'increased potency per astral fire stack' and then for ice spells 'increased MP gain per umbral ice stack'
"You need to see the future to beat Maulskull" if "the future" is what you call the screen beyond your hotbars, then yes.
Idk how I feel about my mistakes potentially being recorded and posted online with full name and all
I had great gubal library run yesterday where the tanks gear was all below lv50.
How can a lv 96 BLM doesn't know anything about fire and lightning spells and think ice is the only action worth it? smh....
This really shows the issue with the game that there is no in-job rotation training, especially on jobs that have a non-obvious rotation like BLM.
It's just absolute pain to see it in DT. Honestly, seeing icemages in Shb hurts my soul
The knockback is what i struggle with on it. It always way more then what i expect (This is true for a lot of dawtrail bosses thinking about it).
Embarrassed for the black mage, absolutely atrocious
It really makes me sad that there is this weird tendency for players to do this, where for some reason it's okay to not learn black mage 😰 I really like the job too so that's just double pain!
I get that BLM is the hard job, but abstractly you have always had to switch between Ice and Fire phases. That’s been clear from day one.
Thank you so much! 😄
And that's a weird one too, wow! 🤣
I'm just gonna hope it was somepne who hadn't played blm in ages that muscle memoried back into the old freeze>flare>flare>repeat days.
It's not like Summoner/Scholar where you can level up one job without actually having to play it
I've talked endlessly about black mages making easy mistakes, never have I met one who refused to do better at all ;-;
For that BLM in the cenote, try out the fire phase and dumping all your mp in whatever manner you deem fit then get back into ice phase and observe mp recovery on every ice spell cast.
The fabled FROST mage. Dear lord. 😂
I gave up trying to explain black mage to anyone 10 years ago
Yes it's called minding your own business 🙄
That sounds like a good approach to me, and I would indeed try the same thing! 😊

Gobbie boom firebloom!
Black Mage not using Fire? Man they're missing out on some flashy animations nerds
I feel like one number is all you need to communicate how good fire spells are. Fire IV under AF3 is effectively 576 potency.
i swear i've seen more and more funny black mage rotations recently, fire 3 and blizzard 3 spam being what i've seen most recently.
Oooh i call that one the "balance mage" because they balance the elements equally! 😂
@@CaetsuChaijiCh So RDM mains then?
That blow up in Brayflox is hilarious, that kind of "gotcha" is always a great moment. My personal favorite accidental wipe is with the first boss in Dun Scaith, where if you kill it _just_ as the knockback into ice walls is happening, the ice despawns and everyone falls to their doom. But hey, at least there the clear still counts!
I've had that happen but I either had used arms length or gap closed to cancel the KB to greed the boss so I was the only one who lived. I'm still laughing about it to this day
I wish I had someone analyzing my gameplay like this during dungeons. Would be so handy to figure out what I should work on.
I actually review clips every now and then on my walk and talk streams, which does involve me giving advice on what to do and what not to do. Although that is of course a live stream!
There is a room to send clips on the channels discord server (link in the description and on the channel page!)
Although I also understand wishing for the analysis, versus receiving it can be a much more scary proposition!

Stuff like this is pretty crazy.
And one of the things he ended up saying was that they should never be getting out of AOEs since tanks can just tank them.
...
I looked at his search info and of course he had no tanks over lvl 50 other than gunbreaker which was 60
You found the fabled "What's an Enochian" BLM.... my condolences.
I never realized that Sprint lasted twice as long when you used it outside of the combat so I'm not surprised that the tank at the start didn't know
It is a random detail, but knowing it is really handy!
Me being worried my team can tell when I forget to use drill for two gcds. Then theres this black mage.
Advice to the Ice Mage?
Gotta melt the frost so it soaks into their skin and your next ice freezes deeper.
For me Conjurer is a Grass/Water or Grass/Ground type that evolves into a Grass/Psychic type!
Man I really wish I had run into somebody willing to tell me I was playing Black Mage wrong so I didn't get all the way to bardem's meddle to realize I'm supposed to be switching with fire and blizzard 3 instead of transpose. I either completely missed the single time it tells you those have reduced cast times or the game doesn't even tell you that that's the case so it wasn't until I randomly was hovering over the skill and read the tool tip and noticed that the cast time was significantly lower than it normally is
If you have a Firestarter proc you should change from ice to fire with transpose so Fire lll does more damage since its instant cast anyway.
@PorrateoIntenso that's actually the first I've heard of that optimization. It does check out though
It is difficult because I also see the value in the anonymity, but in MOST cases, I only meet people that either it doesn't matter, or I need their names to praise them instead 😰😊
I hope this makes sense.
I did mentor yesterday as PCT and SMN, got 35 guildhests! And then 6 trials, and the new lvl 100 dungeon. I normally like doing 10 duties, but i don't like to count guildhests. But they were so abundant
Thirty five! 🤣 That's certainly a lot of progress on the achievement!
As a former Black Mage, every BLM in this video disappointed me XD
I am sure you could find it entertaining to explore!
I love it when somebody with a stack marker where the boss attacks more than once runs away after the first hit xD
They really should include that in the tooltip somewhere yes 😅
White Mage is Liligant in my book!
That's a cute one! And that could work! 😁
In my opinion, White Mage would have been Alomomola. They are generally known for high Wish heals and Flip Turns to Pokemon that can deal damage, not unlike a classic Final Fantasy White Mage.
@@iantaakalla8180 That makes good sense
Omg i felt that blm salt xD i ranted about exactly this on your discord at least twice xD
Haha, you know, I would probably had been even sadder if they started spamming scathe there! 🤣
You said this was just before 7.1 dropped but as of 7.1 fire 4 is now optional because theres a new instant cast rotation
Lmao. Yes I've seen it, but then that still at least involves fire! 🤣
honestly i think the black mage is just lazy. like if ice was better whats fire spells even in the game then? they trying to bs their laziness and uncareness
First duty roulette, MSQ for decent XP and not very big threat to get a feel of running after packs of mobs, I only spam F4 because "It's the biggest number on the tooltip!", manashifting, _then_ Blizzard 4 to blizzard 1 for full MP, then max fire 4 spam....... it was painful
Thankfully your channel has been quite helpful on ironing out stuff like that ;;;;;; No one had commented on my Megumin style BLM but I wish they had because BLM is slowly rising as my favourite caster as I near 100 with it.
Oh, I knew the Viper in Duty 2, wasn't aware they were back to the game
Exactly. Surely a reasonable player would go "does it make sense that I only use 4 spells out of all this?" 🤣
I expected this to be your typical "Doesn't understand black mage so is playing poorly"
It was not, in fact, that. It was "Has at least a cursory understanding of black mage and is just willfully insufferable."
That reminds me, I need to practice with some jobs I'm leveling…
Ah, Brayflox's Longstop Hard.
Indeed!
Usually, just having the person TRY and cast a fire spell or two and looking at the numbers should say everything they need to hear!
6:12 wasnt there a long time ... but a few weeks after release leveling an alt job got there and the tank "warned" the group because we had 1 first timer "be careful to not get pushed from the platform" that was his only hint ... i dont know how that should helped the first timer but i normaly never give tips before they ask or try it blind once so it was fine for me ... then the first knockback came ... and the tank is flying to like the next planet ... im so glad i was just the summoner and not the healer i was just down laughing ... not about his mistake but just the fact "yo be careful to not fall off" and then 10 seconds into the fight he fell off ... the only person in that whole fight .. maybe his warning helped .. but he should take care about his own warnings as well xDD
11:05 well for many people especially online its way easier to see mistakes from others and talk about it but seeing the own mistakes is often impossible and even if you tell them many people are like "oh yeah you know everything perfect shut up"
16:57 there is nothing i could explain to a blackmage beside from "you are a mage so you cast spells" ... im sure no blackmage need THAT explanation ... hopefully ;D there are a lot of jobs i know just a few things about ... and then there is blackmage .. i know i never liked him and its way to slow for my taste ... and thats the end of my knowledge xD
Seeing that black mage also be a hrothgar really hurts me. I love getting them in my roulettes because I am a hrothy myself and they aren't a race you see too often so it makes me sad when they act this way. :(
Black mage isn't one of my personal favs either because I can find it overwhelming sometimes to upkeep with everything (though I know this is just lack of practice/experience more than anything).
Always so shocked when I encounter a player who seemingly wants to play incorrectly, but then I remember America just voluntarily elected a dictator.
As that ironically makes you less mobile than had you also added in some fire!
any possibility that you could link your nice job roulette wheel?
I simply used the website wheelofnames.com/
And filled in the jobs myself 😊
And then there's me, whose BLM rotation knowledge ends at Fire3, Ice3 and Paradox. In that order.
Still better than any of the Black Mages in this video.
