I get the drive to want a giant. But, for the other 99% of us, just hunting and bagging a doe or two on public land is awesome. Plus it feeds my family.
Absolutely! Everyone has their own hunting journey. If it’s legal then I am all for whatever makes others happy! That’s just a personal challenge I have set for myself.
Your buddy Travis participates in a hunt for the handicap, I do as well here in North Carolina. The last time our church sponsored the hunt I was guide for a little girl about seven she was blind and her father came with her. A friend of mine put us on a piece of land that we hunted thanksgiving weekend. I have to tell you that I get as much out of the hunt as they do and they wait all year for this time. We hunt Friday morning and evening then Saturday morning and evening. Saturday evening we spotted a doe and her father held the gun and she pulled the trigger.. she missed and her father thought that maybe the scope got bumped. I had my rifle as a back up and I asked him if he wanted to use mine he decided they would. She killed a four point buck it was her first deer ever!!! I was so happy to be able to help and be a part of that. The year before that I guided a fellow with a prosthetic leg. We were supposed to be hunting in a box stand that was elevated 8ft. Off the ground. I was not told what his handicap was I just saw that he was limping. I went to go park the truck and then I was going to help him get up in the stand. When I got back I asked him how he wanted me to help him and he said he didn’t need any help. So I climbed up to situate our gear and watched him climb up. As soon as he got set in his chair unbeknownst to me he reached down and took off his leg. I was flabbergasted to think that he climbed up that steep ladder without as much as a whimper.. I was shocked and impressed with his ability and determination wow!!! All you fellas ought to help out these handicapped hunts. They have them all over the country with various sponsors. From talking to these guys they looked forward to getting to as many of them as they can so don’t be shy help out!!!!
Thank you for sharing! You are making a big impact!! Please subscribe to help us grow and reach more people! We guided 2 handicapped individuals on our ministry side of Revive Outdoors last season and hope to do more in the future. We hope to film some in the future, but we have to get approval to do so from the participants and some don’t want it or we choose not to film due to the specific situation of how the person needs to be ministered to. We don’t minister for publicity but would love to get some of the hunts on film.
My very first archery attempt my scope got fogged from my mask! I had a doe at about 30 yards and decided I guess she was not going to die today. I missed a doe at 47 yards. Then my neighbor let me borrow a Ravin bow and another friend gave me a range finder. Whacked an 8 point at 43 yards this passed Tuesday. Crossbow is a whole different game but I like it. Did all this on the ground on public land, learning fast.
You might try anti-fogging wipes for your optics and I might’ve explained why I felt comfortable taking such a long shot. But what a shot you made!Thank you for your service and I’m happy you could go. Congratulations on such a deer!
Great shot and video! I had seen your video review of the TACTACAM 5. 0 vs the 6.0. And I decided to watch this video since it was mentioned. At any rate you're running the 5.0 through the FAS setup and then you also run a second TACTACAM. Do you run one in standard 4 K and the other in SLOW MO or 8X. Would love to know as I too have a small TH-cam channel, and self film my hunts. Thanks!

I grew up hunting and for some reason I just stopped for the last 8 years and I have zero idea why. Anyway this year I finally just decided not long before the first gun seasons started that I wanted to get back into it. I am hooked again. I initially just wanted to get into gun hunting this year and then said next year I will get really good in archery and use that as my trophy/meat hunting outlet where as gun season I will use just for meat. We have one gun season left here in Illinois and that honestly wasn’t enough for me for the year. So I talked to my step dad who has been married to my mom since I was 6 and I am 26 now about borrowing his brand new wicked crossbow and obviously he was happy to let me borrow it. So I went and bought some archery tags today and plan on going from tomorrow all the way to January 15th when archery season ends. Next year I would like to shoot my compound more just for the sport of it but there is no shame in using a crossbow as I have some physical limitations due to illness. As I said I am in Illinois where (along with the rest of the midwest) the biggest whitetails exist. When I got my gun tags I let a lot of deer walk because I saw a monster buck at about 400 yards and he never got close enough. We have only been able to use slug guns in Illinois for a very very very long time so 400 yards is a no go. However they did legalize straight wall rifles for next year and I have already picked up my franchi 350 legend rifle and that will allow me to push my shots out a bit further. But in general I think archery season is what will excite me most in the years to come. Sorry for the long message, like I said I am hooked and exciting to get it all going. There is no similar feeling than seeing a monster rac in your direction. Actually hunting the rut next year will be truly amazing. But I think I can still bag the one I saw a few weeks ago. We are fsrmers so we own a whole lot of ground and there are stands up all over our many farms. It should be a fun time going out there if nothing else
