Absolutely the clearest instructions I've come across. I got things wrong trying to follow two other sets of written but ambiguous instructions elsewhere before coming across Jeff's video. Nailed it in one. Very grateful. Truly excellent job.

Wow, this is the most helpful tutorial! I am in Ethiopia helping a friend who had a 2015 Macbook air running on Mavericks (10.9). Ethiopia has no relationship with Apple, so there was no way for her to use an Apple ID. Plus, Mavericks is so old that no MacOS was showing up in the App store. Her machine can run on Big Sur, but she had no way of getting there without help. Your tutorial solved the problem! I have no technical skills to speak of but I was able to use your tutorial to install Big Sur so that she can download new apps and stay on a supported version of Apple's OS. She is now able to login with her apple ID, etc. THANK YOU! This would have cost her $100 USD at a shop to do, which is 1/3 of the average young college grad's monthly salary.

After attempting to fix my wife’s MacBook Pro, which wouldn’t reload Big Sur, wouldn’t reload Sierra and would load from Internet options this was my 4th attempt at trying to get anything installed. Thank you SO much, you saved me from having to buy another laptop or at least from sleeping on the couch for a week.
For anyone else with this issue, I just plugged the flash drive into the MacBook and restarted it. The Apple logo finally showed up and then immediately went to recovery mode and gave me the chance to load a fresh copy of Monterey. Nothing to it

Thank you for this high quality presentation. I will do a fresh install of Monterey onto my Early 2015 MBP, which is at the tail end of making the cut for this OS; I am running Mojave now. My 14-inch 2021 MBP is scheduled to arrive in a month, during which I will deliberate whether to use the Migration Assistant utility or start fresh and selectively copy items as needed. In either case, wiping my existing laptop via this newly-created bootable USB will not occur until I am comfortable my workflow is in tact on the new unit.

Super instructional! thank you! One thing I needed to do was to remain APFS containers via the terminal of older Mac OS Mojave before I could install on the new drive: From Terminal, "diskutil list". find the container name you need to delete that is APFS (HD needs to be GUID Partition). Then type: "diskutil apfs deleteContainer /dev/[nameofdisk itentifier, eg: “disk0s2”] then you can make a clean install. Just be warned this will delete eveything on the partition / container selected. Choose wisely!

Simple tutorial, particularly the use of the direct resources and achieving the goal alone with on-board resources of macOS itself I find exceptionally good, many German tutorials fall back on third-party providers, which ultimately breaks the chain of trust. @mikehunt576 ปีที่แล้ว

@@lucasfwe I am now using an external drive- user to have more space, you simply create an admin account, within this account you never trash in your internal drive you make a second user, then drag that folder to the ext SSD, go to your prefs users etc, redirect the new ext SS folder using the right click advance (Monterey r Ventura) trash the internal SSD copy...then log in.
from time to time I had accidents, such as kids disconnecting my etc ssd, you then see errors like your home folder is corrupt, you simply return to the internal admin folder, prefs, advance area to re direct to the ext SSD home folder and all works.
the only things that don't work are legacy extensions, sneaky apps only booting from int drive such as AVID pro tools plugins, WAVES,, but nothing and I mean nothing else showed issues,

The awesome thing now is that macOS Monterey has a built in “Erase all contents and Settings” similar to iOS where instead of going through this process it will just wipe everything and put a clean copy of macOS just like a fresh install just without the hassle of booting from drive etc. maybe you should do a video on that! Pros and cons etc

MacOS has become read only, so there is pretty much no need to “reinstall macOS” as the system partition is not writable on normal operations anymore. I cant even mount the system partition inside macOS.
One thing he should’ve mentioned is external boot option will NOT work if internal drive is dead. There is no viable way to extract data from it after the effect without some extremely sophisticated procedures and advanced tools.
