    Seeing all these application renovations makes me realize going into medical school is so incredibly hard…

      Don’t let it discourage you. These are pretty sensationalized. I enjoy watching them but prior to medical school these just scared me. In hindsight, it was pretty unnecessary. You can take Dr Gray’s advice though there’s nothing wrong with his advice

    Hello Dr. Gray. If I have multiple independent shadowing experiences, how do I list the different contact titles, names, and contact information under 1 experience block? Thanks.

    Hey Dr. Gray. I’d love to be featured on your show. I recently got an acceptance into an MD school with a 503 MCAT and 3.76 GPA. I had 2 interviews this cycle.

    Hello Dr. Gray, what do we have to do to be on a one-on-one Zoom call with you?
    I am a poor student with an advisor who practically told me to forget about my dream of becoming an MD.

    For our personal statement, would it be okay to allude to a specific field we want to go in or just that we want to be a doctor? Asking because I want to go into psychiatry and most of my reasoning behind it is linked to first hand psychiatric experiences.

    • @ThatGoodBarbequ
      @ThatGoodBarbequ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You can lean on the experience you’ve had with psychiatrists, but don’t directly say you want to go into psychiatry.
      I worked in cardiology for 3 years as a nurse prior to med school, and I was very outright with the administrators that I wanted to be a cardiologist, and they didn’t like that

    • @edhcb9359
      @edhcb9359 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      If you allude to wanting to be in a specialty that American medicine is in grave need to fill(like family medicine) then you will be in good shape. But I don’t think psychiatry falls into that category.

      I said in a secondary I want to be an OBGYN because some schools have an accelerated to residency pathway when you’re certain what you want to do

    • @spencersilvey3927
      @spencersilvey3927 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      They absolutely do want to hear you list a specific field if it’s something like primary care, mental health, or public health. However, you need to walk a fine line if the psychiatric experiences pertain to you, as unfair as it is, mental health is still stigmatized, even in admissions. The only time calling your shot is a knock against you if you do something headass and say “I want to a be a pediatricneuropthooncologist”.

    Dr Gray is quick to dismiss research as something that can help or hurt your chances because he hasn’t figured out a way to charge clients to improve their research on their application.

    • @alphaa.9151
      @alphaa.9151 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I thought research is not required. Spoke to a couple of adcom members and they all said that it’s not necessary unless you are interested in it or pursuing a PhD. I’m surprised that even my own post bac advisor agrees

      His advice in these videos is largely based on a narrative he would like to push. I can see him sometimes trying to fit applications into a mold to prove his own points, which have already been formed in his head prior to seeing the actual person’s AMCAS…the part where he read “primary care MA” and immediately jumped on it was ridiculous lol
