    FYI Fastcap makes a double sided tape that helps hold unglued edge banding really well. One tip, I use some compressed air to clean the edge before applying the edge banding to make sure I get the best grip possible.

    Great demos of the various techniques. I just don’t do enough of this to justify the Festool Machine. I live 45 miles from Fastcap and have been at their store/factory/office. Their tools are amazing and extremely innovative. It is always high quality and well thought through.

    Great video! Really enjoy your channel. I know you don't want to tell people what to use but I would still like to hear pros and cons from your perspective. Cost and ease of application are the only things that come up. What is about durability? Hardwood edge banding seems to win here. Not sure how much you gain with the festool machine in terms of durability compared to iron though? What looks the best? To make hardwood edge banding disappear requires work terms of grain matching etc. Would love to hear your thoughts on these questions...

    • @bentswoodworking
      @bentswoodworking  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be a good idea for another video for sure. As for the strength of the machine vs iron on, the strength of the glue from the pucks is far superior to iron on options.

    Thanks for the video. I’m just finishing up a project that’s a knock off of an unnamed Swedish furniture company’s piece that’s been out of stock for months. So far, I’ve ironed on 75’ of melamine edge banding. I may have to look into that peel and stick for future projects. 😂

      Jason Bent - Bent's Woodworking: I have a suspicion that edge banding that uses a hot melt adhesive such as the iron-on type will be more durable than peel-and-stick banding because the ironing pressure forces the molten adhesive deeper into the wood fibres providing better anchorage. Personally I’ve never used the peel-and-stick banding but would be interested in any testing anyone has done, especially longer term testing which I suspect would show greater differences between the two types due to faster degradation of what is merely a pressure-activated contact adhesive. Any takers?

    I use a SHARP chisel to trim the edges of veneer, you can use the flat back of the chisel to register on the surface of the plywood.

      Dominic DiClemente many years ago when I built shelves out of 3/4" (18mm) veneered blackboard I used to edge them with about 1" (25mm) of softwood then plane the bottom edge of the softwood to about 1/2" (12mm) at the front edge which made the shelves look a lot lighter from the front. They were painted in those days.

    Appreciate the video! I'm currently finishing up a Media Console and have some iron-on edge banding I'll be applying for the first time. TBH, the Festool looks pretty cumbersome, especially since you still need to flush cut and trim the edges anyway

      I think with Festool prices that a basic table edge banding machine could be close in cost. Then it becomes a trade off for brining the tool to the work or brining the work to the tool. I can see the Festool Conturo being ultra slick for large panels.

    Using a prefinished birch ply 3/4 in. and what I found and should have realized the finish veneer is thinner than the unfinished. Conclusion when you go to edge band I think your router method would be the best because using a sharp edge by hand I had a lot of those "OH DAMN" moments, that veneer has to be paper thin!

  • @katabrontes

    Hi Jason. Seems to me that the peel and stick plus the double sided cutter was the fastest and must be much cheaper ( including the cost of the special edge banding for the Conturo) than the rather cumbersome Conturo and its, probably, expensive associated cutter and router guide plate. Faster than the Conturo as well and a better finish than the iron on. Interesting to see the various method all compared though. Thanks.

    • @bentswoodworking
      @bentswoodworking  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just want to show people many ways to do it and let them make the choice on their own. Personally, the Conturo is my favorite technique but for smaller jobs, the peel and stick would be my go to I think.

    The absolutely best ans easiest way to trim edge banding is a hand plane iron. It registers perfectly on the plywood and it cuts without leaving any marks at all

      Jason Bent - Bent's Woodworking: Yes, a good tip. Being a lot wider than a chisel, it will indeed rest very securely on the face of the board and be more stable than a chisel, especially in the hands of a less experienced wood worker. As with a chisel, it must be kept very sharp.

    Why not make sure that you are truly saved by Jesus Christ and practice this way. Remorsefully confess with your heart your sins to Jesus Christ who is God and tell Him that you right now are repenting of your sins and you want to be born again of the Spirit from above. Tell Jesus that you are remorsefully sorry for breaking His commandments and that you are begging for forgiveness from Him. Allow His blood from the cross to wash away your sins. After this is done with your heart successfully the Holy Spirit will come to live within you and He will rebuild you from the inside out.
    Look for signs that you are saved. Things like spreading the good news from Jesus, getting other people saved, a craving for the word of God, reading the Bible, etc… These things are known as a calling and fruit bearing. If you're not bearing fruit then keep doing it. Sometimes it takes time to get saved. Read Matthew chapter 13 from the King James Bible. God bless!!!!!!!
