    I lived in Anchorage Alaska for 21 years n worked in a burn unit as an RN n made ALOT OF $$$$ esp working nights. We did our own surgeries. Physical Therapy. Pain Management etc. We did alot of over time. It was hard work but the money came in fast. When we moved to Hawaii we had 800,000 in our bank. We moved into our condo in Kawai. A big change. While in Alaska we found cheaper groceries that my friend found at a small store, We also had a friend that came in with a big catch n we had halibut n king crab legs for free You just need to know people. My friend n I found hundreds off wild berry bushes, We always carried rifles n bear spray. Got to know how to live with the wildlife. Never scared

      I just graduated nursing school, currently working as a nurse aide in the burn hospital. I live and was raised in Hawaii. I'm interviewing with a hospital in Alaska soon. We have similar but opposite lives.

    I live in New Brunswick Canada, and most of the prices you showed are less than what I would pay. Our groceries have gone crazy in price, especially since 2020!

      Same on the East Coast of Maryland. I didn’t see much of a difference in these prices in what we are currently paying. I will say a few cents even a dollar difference will add up quickly though.

    Biggest thing people don't realize is how easy the food chain supply can be hindered , if ships can't make it to port here, I remember food services guy saying 7 day supply if something happened hindering food chain.

      Everybody in Alaska has months of beans and rice and oats and corn and flour, just in case. Even "unprepared" people..... At least I hope....

    Those prices are relatively equivalent to what we pay for similar groceries here in Australia on an average day in an average suburban supermarket. Thanks for the informative video. 👏🏻🇦🇺🦘

    Me and my husband moved here in 2021 from Spring Hill Florida central on the gulf side we were born and raised there and at the ages of 48 and 47 we moved to Alaska, 5600 miles with two Rottweilers and two Pomeranians in tow it is an absolute adventure I work in Anchorage so I stop at that Fred Meyer often I wish you good luck to you guys. I know you will love it.

    We lived in Anchorage for 15 years back in the 80’s and early 90’s. Prices were very high compared to where we came from. Can’t imagine prices today with the economy. If I can suggest only one thing or two. 😊. Start a stock-up. If trucks or ships can’t make it, it wouldn’t take long for shelves to be empty. Fred Meyers is a great store, but higher than Safeway, at least they used to be. Watch and shop stock up sales. First thing I would do is create a “large” pantry somewhere in your new home. You will tank yourself coming canning season. Good luck

    Visited my daughter in Wasilla and couldn’t believe how great Fred Meyer was grocery prices are 25% higher in Minnesota… and our stores have dwindling supplies in the rural areas. Thanks for sharing

  • @ManuEla-zq7ok
    @ManuEla-zq7ok ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I live in country/rural but not remote, NSW Australia with 2 major Supermarkets and plenty of other stores etc. and seeing your prices, in Alaska, I couldn't believe how cheap everything was, and I am not talking about the discounted prices, but also the full ticketed things compared to ours.
    Here, 3 litres of milk = $5.80 for no brand/store brand. 1kg of mince/ground beef $14 - $16 for middle quality and even more for premium mince. Chicken breast $12 per kg, 760g sliced bread = $5.90, a small tub of yogurt between $1.60 and $2.50 and so on. Example, this week(Friday) I spent $478 and walked out with 2 and 1/2 bags of staples. 1kg (kilograms) is 2.2lbs (pounds).

    I am an Alaskan born and raised in Alaska although it's nice to see some of the homesteaders and they're beautiful builds it's becoming a huge thing and now I'll ask her is getting homesteaders everywhere before you know it there won't be no more natural beautiful Alaska to see I've seen so so many videos of people moving to Alaska to do a homestead in Alaska the number of trees that are getting cut down and the natural beauty slowly going away.
    Anyway if you're going to go grocery shopping your best bet would be to go to Costco or Sam's Club where you can buy in bulk it'll be a lot better that way

  • @416dl
    @416dl 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Would be worth noting that while these prices are typical for most Alaskans, since most Alaskans live in the Anchorage area which includes Wasilla and Palmer, most of Alaska is nowhere near Anchorage and those prices are very low compared to any of the less centrally located areas; even Juneau which is the actual capital, in Southeast Alaska and having a population of 30,000 and is dependent of either air or barge for delivery of supplies, sees the increased cost of getting its groceries, and just about everything else being considerably higher, and as you get farther from any major town the prices continue to up and up. That said, it is worth it for many reasons that go way beyond the cost of groceries: incredible views, proximity to wilderness and wildlife, and the kind of people who call Alaska home make it the adventure that it is. Cheers.
