I'm just making half this recipe, they are in the oven now and smell amazing. I can see me making these a lot as there are so many flavour options I can think of. What a great way to use up discard. Thank you x
The Regular Chef It’s all I’ve made with my starter... haven’t even made bread yet! 😆😆 But they are pretty good. I’ve ended up making them a few times already. 😄
You don’t even need to add flour! Just add some salt, pour out the (wet!) starter on your baking sheet and bake! that way there’s no waste and you don’t even have to add more flour :D My crackers made without adding extra flour have a very tangy taste, adding extra flour just muffles all that beautiful tangy-ness you developed! Also if your crackers are not very tangy, maybe it’s because your starter looks really liquid and not very bubbly, so not much fermentation has occurred?
😱😱😱 Wow!! That is so great to know! I will definitely try them with just the starter discard next time, no extra flour. 😄 I believe that could also be the issue for the tangy-ness. Thanks so much!
Yay! I hope you like them! Let me know how they turn out. 😄😄 Also, I don't know if you read in my description of the recipe, but I ended up mixing the Everything but the Bagel seasoning directly into the dough after making these a few times. I realized they don't stick that well to the tops of the crackers! Try a few teaspoons mixed directly into the dough instead. 😊 The silicone mats are great! I got them at a local store in the baking aisle, but I'm sure they have plenty of similar products on Amazon. I use them for everything I bake at 400F or less, and then just wash and reuse them! Perfectly non-stick every time. 😄
Made these today. Delicious. Question, how think did you roll the dough out? I think mine were just a tad too thick and needed a little more than 20 minutes to bake.
Aw, yay! So glad you enjoyed them! 🤗 Great question! The original recipe stated they should be about 1/16" (or 1.5mm). I do find that mine are a bit thicker in the middle pieces of the dough rectangles, so I end up taking off the outside crackers (around the edges) when the timer is up, and then stick any thicker ones back in for about 5-10 mins. more. But definitely try to roll them as thin as possible before baking! It will help. 😄😄
Hi! I personally haven’t tried it yet... but many people have said you can just spread the starter straight onto the pan (lined with parchment paper or a reusable mat), season as you like, and then bake! I’m not sure if they would be as crispy, but it’s worth a shot! 😄
Inside the fridge! Every time I remove some of my main starter (every day 100g), I put it into a tupperware in the fridge. That's the discard I used for this recipe (and any other discard recipe)!
I made it and we love it, I'm gonna make 600 gm of starter now😂 I tried to make the bagel seasoning but didn't have everything so I put Za'tar on it and it tastes better with it
@@LetsEatPlants my siblings say it's much better than without, maybe bc we love Za'tar idk😂. if u made it tell me how it goes next to bagel seasoning. thank you for the great recipe
@@LetsEatPlants then I may suggest using it as (Palestine, Syria, and other Fertile Crescent countries) do make a sandwich of Za'tar and olive oil(using pita bread if u have) with a cup of tea.... that made me wanna made me some😂
My husband ate the Dog’s Sourdough Cracker treats & the poor dog was left with cheesy crumbs! Like everyone else who was disgusted both with the pandemic Lockdown & too much SD Discard, I decided, ALL SD Discard baked treats, wouldn’t kill the dog. After all, he even eats the bird seed I put out. So… after I experimented with these ALL-SD -Discard-ALL-THE-TIME CRACKERS with good old Velveeta Pretend Cheese 🧀 & had them on the counter, my hubby tore into the poor dog’s cheesy “cookie treats”. Then after using my dog & husband as Guinea pigs, I took my life into my hands & tried them. WOW 🤩 were they good! I only used 90% of my Discard, Velveeta cheese stuff & some salt, making them every 2-3 weeks, when I have enough Discard to make it worth my time. And guess what? Neither my husband or my 🐶 died. Who doesn’t despise wasting good flour?

So glad to hear that! 😃😃 We love it too. 🤗
Cool idea, I’ve never thought to do this with my starter. I’ll definitely have to give it a try!

I'm laughing but I wanna cry, how to clean it 😂😂
I’m going to try tomorrow! Curious about your silicone mats you rolled on and baked with? Genius tip with the everything but the bagel seasoning.

Hi! Do you keep the sourdough discard outside or in the fridge?
Trying this recipe later today 🤗
