    Love my m1a models. I have the scout and the socom II. I have ar platforms, but they feel really small to me. The m1a, or m14, just fits me better. Im just one guy living in the country, and wont be going into battle and lugging a bunch of equipment around, so the weight isnt an issue for me. Most i may ever have to battle is a pack of coyotes trying to eat my chickens. Which really can be handled with a 22 lr

      The people who hate on this gun do exactly what you say, they expect it to be a sniper. This gun is solid up to 300 yards, the 16" especially. I actually take mine hunting sometimes. Forward mounted Burris 2-7x and I get solid 1" groupings at 200 yards, which fits most of my sight lines in all but 2 greenfields on my property. It is a phenomenal rifle but it is not made for consistent 500 yard shots, it's a mid-range to short range BEAST though.

    SEI makes a threaded barrel sleeve size of their flash suppressor, which has 5/8x24 on the outside for mounting cans. Also DC fs are available for their cans maybe surefire too. This is Easy to replace if you want to change the setup.

    What did you do to take the heat off of your optic?? It's practically bolted to the barrel.
    I had a SA Tanker model. I had to remove the rail and cover it with a full heat shroud. It cooked a Bushnell holosight one day at the range. After that, I remodeled it into an open sight range rifle. I removed the rail and put a normal heat shroud on it, then installed a NM rear sight with shrouded aperture. I did a few other things to it before selling it. Rested, that rifle could could put a cloverleaf on paper at 150 yards with open sights. Later, I recut the stock to fit my hands and checkered the grip and foregrip in a wrap around pattern.
    It's one of the few firearms I've had over the years that I fully regret selling. Maybe one day the owner will sell it back to me. I hope he's reading. If you have it, you know. Black cherry stain. Red stained controls and lettering. Right-hand only grip. Vortex flash hider. Maybe one day.

    • @JeremyShoots2A
      @JeremyShoots2A  ปีที่แล้ว

      Interestingly I have never had any issues with too much heat affecting my optics. I've run red dots, LPVOs and high powered scopes without issue.
      The M1A is a beautiful platform, truly one of my all time favorite rifles is my Mk14 Mod 0 clone. I'll hold onto that rifle until I pass it down to my kiddos. Glad to hear you have similar fond experiences with the platform, hope you can get that one or another like it some day!

      @@JeremyShoots2A . I'm actually surprised considering that it is just a block of aluminium clamped around the barrel. When I originally bought my rifle used, even used it was $1100, it had a Tasco ProPoint on it. The first time I took it out, it melted the rubber overmould off of it. Twice, I burned myself on the rail itself even after I stopped using an optic.

    Right now (12/3/2023) we have many examples of REAL life or death action as close as our TH-cam screen. Just look at the soldiers now fighting for their lives in Ukraine and Gaza and watch the news for other conflicts around the world. I have yet to see any Ukrainians with fancy rred dot gadgets or Israelis with that kind of crap. I saw Israelis with 40 year old Colt carbines with the old fiberglas handguards and one with an aluminum commando sliding stock, well worn. I am sure there are more. THere's nothing wrong with the M1A juat as it is. If the average fellow out there wants to LIVE through the coming travails, the FIRST thing that he needs to do is call on his own combat experience. Failing that, just rent another movie and continue the fantasy. Nine pound rifle, another three pounds of crap to hang on it. Oh yes, and don't forget to tape a few pairs of magazines together.

    First off the M-14 was Obsolete before it was even adopted. It's the pinicle of the M-1 Garand design. It was the solution that The Government arsenal came up with based on the "Last War" head up the ass mentality. This is why it's the shortest serving Rifle in US history. The AR-10 and FN-FAL were way better rifles. I wasted a lot of years on M-1 Garand's, M-1A's,M-14's and Ruger Mini-14's. Can you do it? Sure if you want to spend a lot of money on a heavy obsolete rifle. Honestly it's just not worth doing. Mine sits in the back of the Gun Safe and only comes out for bragging rights because that's what it is good at. Especially when you can build a really nice AR-10 with a lightweight 16" barrel for under $600 and the manual of arms is the same as the AR-15. The M-14 is best left as a foot note in US government head up the ass weapons history.

    • @bootyslayer6970
      @bootyslayer6970 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The AR-10 was finicky at the time. FAL was less accurate and even heavier than the M14. FALs didn’t field strip as easily as the M1A and changing stocks was better with the M1A. You can argue ARs are better now since they’ve been refined, and I would definitely choose an AR-10 over an m14 for DMR roles and such. But for a core battle rifle (especially survivalist gun) where simplicity is key, M1A all the way. Also, if you compare the specs with most AR-10s in the same price range, you’ll find their weights are not far off from each other with many AR-10s weighing more than the M1A, accuracy is usually better with the AR but relatively close in comparison, and modularity is roughly the same as far as possibility goes. The M1A will cost more, but it’s not impossible and is very capable. M1A is also such a vibe, AR-10s are boring in comparison. Also, any AR-10 under $800-$1000 is questionable for quality and honestly, wouldn’t trust my life with it.

    • @robertgoodrich8953
      @robertgoodrich8953 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You are very wrong. The only reason the M-14 got pulled from the Nam was the wooden stock didn’t last well in monsoon season. My SOCOM has a synthetic camouflage stock cutting weight and being weatherproof. The AR-15 is an inadequate fighting rifle and the AR-10 is bulky and heavier than the M1A SOCOM. Mine has been essentially 100% reliable during regular shooting for 8 years.
      I have yet to hear of an AR-10 that runs well consistently.
      But, that is the nice thing about gun ownership today. If you want to make your best weapon a safe queen, more power to you. I have other .308’s, but if I lose my home, the SOCOM will be coming with me.

    • @celmer6
      @celmer6 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@robertgoodrich8953 it's you who is wrong. The M-14 was the rifle for the last War. The only reason why the M-14 is even still used is because they have so many of them still in mothballs. I own 2 M1A's and I'm not impressed with them so they live in my Gun Safe and only come out for range days for comparison testing. The Brownells Retro AR-10 with the brown furniture beats it in every category. The AR-10 beat the M-14 in every category back in the 1950's too! The AR-10 or FN-FAL should have been the US Service rifle but politics and fucked up DOD bullshit gave us the M-14. The Italian BM-59 was the better way to go for a Box fed Garand.

    • @bootyslayer6970
      @bootyslayer6970 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The AR-10 wasn’t refined like how it is today when it was up against the m-14. It had problems with constantly needing oil and was a finicky system at the time. That’s one of the reasons why they chose the m14 for war. You can definitely argue it’s capability now since it has been improved a lot, but there are qualities/features that m14 has that the ar-10 probably won’t ever have by design. One of em is simplicity/robustness. It’s a simple, proven, less maintenance needed gun. It has fewer parts and statistically has less failure points than the ar-10. M14 also has a more robust gas system that can go a while without cleaning and isn’t as ammo picky compared to the AR. You can make an AR less picky with ammo but 9/10 that’s done by over gassing the system to tighten tolerances which beats up parts faster. Depending on the role you want for it will depend on which gun is best. I wanted a bare bones, robust, battle rifle that can eat anything I give it, and just run with less maintenance (if oil wasn’t available) if needed. Felt like that m14 will always have that edge over the ar-10 in those categories. Plus, it’s such a vibe to shoot.
