I used to play this game also. I was born in 80
I too was born in 84 but didn't start playing the game until this year, thanks to MAME! It quickly became one of my favorite games. BTW; did you know, to date, it's the 5th best selling arcade ever and did over 1 billion in sales (in quarters) its first year?
83 for me. I had the Genesis version of this, which translated pretty well onto that console, despite being far from arcade perfect though. The Sega CD port was overall the best of the original NBA Jam games on home systems, even if that one still had it's fair share of flaws and what not however.
Damn this is awesome. Congrats and that new cabinet gem mint. Those games are priceless.
I played this tonight and while it was fun, it just felt incomplete without the full lineup. It’s a pity this isn’t the true full game.

Thanks for doing this, I have a few pinball machines and the original Street Fighter Cabinet and wasn't sure on these Arcade 1up's. I had always heard they were small, looks like a good size!

I wish Arcade 1up would at least release upgrade packs for the old cabs. So we would buy the upgraded screens with scanlines, a lighted marquee or other upgrades. Great video!

Great review! I really wish A1U would have put the lighted marquee, the Wifi and the upgraded buttons and scanline options in the first run of machines. Also i love what you did with those marvel masterpiece cards in the frame. Imma have to do that with mine!

Neat 1Up arcade cabinet. Wouldn't mind having a few of these, but no room to put them.
FYI those numbers at the character selection screen on NBA Hangtime are for secret codes to get secret characters/modes....
Just watched the Ars Technica war stories on NBA Jam with Mark Turmell - go watch if you love this game! There was an early version with Michael Jordan, it wasn't just a myth. Great review Gem - I think I might have to cop this!

It's a great party cabinet! Having said that the cpu completely changes how it plays if you are winning. They will rush you and snatch the ball no matter what. If you pass it will be picked off. They even snatch the ball while you are throwing elbows!!

I used to pick pacers because you can sink 3s with Reggie Miller all day. Sadly miller didn’t make the roster yet for this cab.
Does anyone know if the full size NBA jam cabs had square gates, or octagonal?
I played on the Sega Genesis. Still have the same copy to this day. I didn't know about Hang Time when i was a kid but I picked it up a number of years ago for the SNES.
Get the n64 version of hangtime its nearly arcade perfect.
