This is a great camera! Whats really appealing about this is the on-board XLR ports! Even with the more expensive DSLR cameras you don't get XLR ports. You have to buy extra equipment. Good audio quality is crucial
Its utter trash. My 15 year old webcam has better video quality. Tascam DR-40 and phone/action camera etc are not only cheaper, you also get far better quality.
New sub here. I love your energy and vibe. I've had the Zoom Q8N for a few months and learned more from this video than any other source. Just bought a really nice tube mic to record my acoustic guitars and am exciting to get that bad boy connected to one of the channels. Cheers!!!

There is a huge number of Zoom accessories also especially designed for musicians. Your video really helps me to realize that this is a video camera that will suit my purposes better than other video cameras I've researched here on TH-cam.

I like ever zoom product that I have bought. I saw your channel for the first time a few months ago came back today watched a couple more of your videos and subscribed. I do not understand the subscriber thing myself, most of my views come from non subscriber. If you figure it out let me know.

You got your 40k views then :) Just pushed the button on this - already have a mixer and a H2n from Zoom which are awesome, and I won't have to sync up audio and video between phone video recording and the H2n any more after getting this! I can live with video that's not super perfect as long as the sound is good, and no other manufacturer offers good sound out of the box like Zoom does!

I bought one of these as a replacement for the Zoom Q8. I host and play at an open-mic/jam session where I video the evening event which is a 3 hour session. The video material is then edited down with Adobe and a final edited video is distriubuted via social media. The camera is attached to a pole which faces the stage and has to be as unobstrucive and discreet as possable i.e. the display screen has to be folded back so is not visible from the stage, it's to prevent theft rather then clandestine purposes. As with th Q8 previously I power the unit through a power pack as the internal battery will not be adequet for the session. This worked well for the Q8, but the Q8n has a couple of issues that I've encountered . There is no recording indicator light on the Q8n which there is on the Q8 so you can see immediatly if a problem has occured. The red led will change to green informing you the unit has stopped recording. With the Q8n there is no such light only on the display screen and even if it folder out for visibility it's very difficult to determine the state from the stage. If recording in 4k format the Q8n gets hot and will shut down, the period of time to thermal shutdown depends on the environment. I almost sent the unit back to the suppliers when I first encountered a thermal shutdown, but I experimented at home and the unit did display "shutdown due to overheating" or words to that effect.The manual does state that it will shut down if it gets too hot. The only solution to this is to stop recording between acts and not let the unit get too hot. I am awaiting the Zoom BTA 1 bluetooth adapter which should help . Apart from that it's a good product with some great features .

I have a chance of getting this camera for a good price but I'm being put off by other TH-cam videos saying that the picture is grainy I only want it for the sound quality so I can record guitar music in my living room my room is reasonably bright so I am confused as to why others say that the videos are grainy on it surely you can adjust it do they just mean is bad when recording low light concert videos can you advise me on this I am confused Thanks 🥰🏴

On subscribing: I almost never subscribe to a channel the first time I see a video. In this case, I looked up this camera because I just bought it and this video was recommended. I'll usually subscribe after watching at least a couple of videos from the same channel. If I like a video, I'll often look at the other videos available on the channel. If I'm not interested in the majority of them, I won't subscribe, but I may watch a few more. In this case, I didn't subscribe because most of the videos are audio equipment reviews, which is something I enjoy (especially microphones). I'm not a musician or a gamer, so most of the other videos wouldn't be very interesting to me. I hope this helps, but I doubt I'm typical. Thanks for the review!

Hello, I have a question regarding the Zoom Q8n 4K. Would you be kind enough to tell me what the finished product file size would be of a single .mov File with Audio from all four sources (2 XLR mics and the the 2 x XY Zoom Mics that come with the device) with the video set to 720p, 30FPS for 45 minutes? I have to sit a performance music exam soon and the college are insisting that the file size be less than 1gb for a 45 minute video. I am hoping that the zoom Q8n will be all I need for this exam. Thank you.

And you got a couple of details wrong like slow motion availability. Nevertheless, I went ahead and subscribed and hit the notification bell to support your channel. Keep striving bro. I wish I'd done a little more research before buying this camera. I have a Zoom recorder that has always served me well. This camera turned out to be unusable for me. I bought it to live stream from concerts, a task it is particularly poorly suited for. It's got to be tethered to a computer to stream, which is never my setting. Plus the mediocre quality video has 5 fixed scenes, rather than a chance to zoom at will. I end up never finding a way to use it at a show. Sadly, I also spent too long trying to sort it out, so when I contacted Zoom 45 days after my purchase, they said I was outside the 30-day return window. I ended up buying a Shure external cell phone mic kit and am so much happier!

The audio isn’t an option with iPhone for me, because with the right adapters you can get the top notch audio into it, but to have it all built into one system with the zoom quality mics and the XLR inputs makes it a winner for me. I like what I heard. I wasn't going to subscribe and then I heard you ask for coments and tell you why? I liked what you did albiet a little caffenated. Which is far better than a dry kind of intellectual speech... I'm trying to figure out what more I need from you. You told me what every other review did. But you did show a better view of the screen on the table. You did a very good job. But I probobaly subscribed to others who also did a good job. I don't need a thousand subscriptions to this one product saying pretty much the same thing. Maybe if you can get a little more functional in the operation of the camera. For example: Why does the boom mic sound better? And for what purpose? I want to do music not pod cast. Does that make a difference? I am interesed in the add on capsules and I need to know more about that. As a single no so great musician, how could I use the 4 channel capability. I play guitar and sing. That's two channels. Now what? I have some Live 11 procuction software how do I take my 4 channel song from the camera to edit the thing in Live 11.? All this stuff is a big learning curve and that is part of the problem. I would like some sort of back beat, bass, etc to agument whatever stupid thing I'm trying to do. Mind you, I know I am not a great talent. I play and sing because I like it. I like to go to some get togethers and there is a circle where everybody plays something and have a few drinks. But, I'd like to get better and i'd like to get clever and for those friends with the illusion I have a bit of talent... and have some fun. So, OK. I will subscribe for now and see what else you have to say. However, right now I am ADD on the Q8n-4k. if you are going to discuss a plethera of other devices and stuff, I am not there yet... So then I will unsubscribe. So tell me more about making videos and utilizing the capabilites of the Q8n and the capsules.... Help me get better.
Any advise on the best SD card to use? I have a Sundisk Ultra Plus microSDXC UHS-Card...however I'm reading that the "extreme" version runs the 4K better! Thoughts, thank you?
First of all, congratulations on a very well put together review! One question, how is the stabilization on the camera? The reason for the question is because we have tried to film our set with a cell phone but the bass vibration is seen on the video. Every time the bass thumps, the video shakes SMH! Just hoping this camera has some kind of stabilization in order to avoid this annoying issue. Thanks for your help and keep it up!

Glad I found your channel. Here's my question. I have been a student of photography all my life. I received my second B.S. Degree in Digital Cinematography aka Film Making. I currently have a Sony FS5 Mark II. And a Sony A6000. Problem and questions. Neither cameras are designed for vlogging. If I had a dedicated partner, they would be ok. I am headed into Ukraine. While on sticks the FS5 would be great. But I need to film on the go. For various platforms. Is this camera a good substitute? Can it live stream and be good at it? Can i make a feature using this or several of this for various angles? I generally film at 29.97 or 24. Can this camera be my best film friend? Thanks CJ
What’s good CJ?! As much as I like this camera I wouldn’t say it’s nowhere near a professional grade camera! This camcorder is a great choice for musicians trying to get better sound while recording their sessions. There are way better options out there for pro level film production. I have quite a few Zoom products and I'm really happy with them, so I bought this camera based on my experience with Zoom; this camera has superb audio capabilities, but the indoor video quality is a real disappointment; you'll need lots and lots of lights to get a decent video

You can eliminate the fish eye by changing the zoom (in) setting. Using this camera for zoom meetings works great! Thanks for watching! 🙏🏾👊🏾

Hello, I have a question regarding the Zoom Q8n 4K.
Would you be kind enough to tell me what the finished product file size would be of a single .mov File with Audio from all four sources (2 XLR mics and the the 2 x XY Zoom Mics that come with the device) with the video set to 720p, 30FPS for 45 minutes?
I have to sit a performance music exam soon and the college are insisting that the file size be less than 1gb for a 45 minute video.
I am hoping that the zoom Q8n will be all I need for this exam.

Maybe if you had an adapter 🤔 but this camera input connections are only XLR not combo XLR.

I wish I'd done a little more research before buying this camera. I have a Zoom recorder that has always served me well. This camera turned out to be unusable for me. I bought it to live stream from concerts, a task it is particularly poorly suited for. It's got to be tethered to a computer to stream, which is never my setting. Plus the mediocre quality video has 5 fixed scenes, rather than a chance to zoom at will. I end up never finding a way to use it at a show. Sadly, I also spent too long trying to sort it out, so when I contacted Zoom 45 days after my purchase, they said I was outside the 30-day return window.
I ended up buying a Shure external cell phone mic kit and am so much happier!

The audio isn’t an option with iPhone for me, because with the right adapters you can get the top notch audio into it, but to have it all built into one system with the zoom quality mics and the XLR inputs makes it a winner for me. I Appreciate your reply Elbow. I spoke with AMS(American Music Supply) and that actually had the wrong advertisement with the QN8 4k. It will not fit, so they are correcting their mistake and refunded me the $40 back and I can keep it as a trophy piece. Thanks for your gr8t content. I like what I heard. I wasn't going to subscribe and then I heard you ask for coments and tell you why? I liked what you did albiet a little caffenated. Which is far better than a dry kind of intellectual speech... I'm trying to figure out what more I need from you. You told me what every other review did. But you did show a better view of the screen on the table. You did a very good job. But I probobaly subscribed to others who also did a good job. I don't need a thousand subscriptions to this one product saying pretty much the same thing. Maybe if you can get a little more functional in the operation of the camera. For example: Why does the boom mic sound better? And for what purpose? I want to do music not pod cast. Does that make a difference? I am interesed in the add on capsules and I need to know more about that. As a single no so great musician, how could I use the 4 channel capability. I play guitar and sing. That's two channels. Now what? I have some Live 11 procuction software how do I take my 4 channel song from the camera to edit the thing in Live 11.? All this stuff is a big learning curve and that is part of the problem. I would like some sort of back beat, bass, etc to agument whatever stupid thing I'm trying to do. Mind you, I know I am not a great talent. I play and sing because I like it. I like to go to some get togethers and there is a circle where everybody plays something and have a few drinks. But, I'd like to get better and i'd like to get clever and for those friends with the illusion I have a bit of talent... and have some fun. So, OK. I will subscribe for now and see what else you have to say. However, right now I am ADD on the Q8n-4k. if you are going to discuss a plethera of other devices and stuff, I am not there yet... First of all, congratulations on a very well put together review! One question, how is the stabilization on the camera? The reason for the question is because we have tried to film our set with a cell phone but the bass vibration is seen on the video. Every time the bass thumps, the video shakes SMH! Just hoping this camera has some kind of stabilization in order to avoid this annoying issue. Thanks for your help and keep it up!

Glad I found your channel. Here's my question. I have been a student of photography all my life. I received my second B.S. Degree in Digital Cinematography aka Film Making. I currently have a Sony FS5 Mark II. And a Sony A6000. Problem and questions. Neither cameras are designed for vlogging. If I had a dedicated partner, they would be ok. I am headed into Ukraine. While on sticks the FS5 would be great. But I need to film on the go. For various platforms. Is this camera a good substitute? Can it live stream and be good at it? Can i make a feature using this or several of this for various angles? I generally film at 29.97 or 24. Can this camera be my best film friend? Thanks CJ
What’s good CJ?! As much as I like this camera I wouldn’t say it’s nowhere near a professional grade camera! This camcorder is a great choice for musicians trying to get better sound while recording their sessions. There are way better options out there for pro level film production. I have quite a few Zoom products and I'm really happy with them, so I bought this camera based on my experience with Zoom; this camera has superb audio capabilities, but the indoor video quality is a real disappointment; you'll need lots and lots of lights to get a decent video
