Operation Christmas Child - Packing filler packs! 2023

  • I have worked in the Operation Christmas Child Processing Center for many years. I always come away feeling so much love for this ministry. I will admit though, that many times I get frustrated at the lack of good filler available to fill up a half filled box or to replace the inappropriate items that we must remove. OCC relies on corporate donations and they do a great job! And I must stress packing your shoeboxes first is preferred! But if you have some items to share that you are not using...please consider sending!
    Making "wow" filler packs is fun to do with any leftover items that you are not sending this year! It's like a small bag of love to help fill a box. And ALL sizes of filler are needed! Small things, big stuffies, school supplies, etc.! The possibilities are endless! No bags are needed but they do help especially when it comes to a clothing size and keeping items together.
    I want to encourage all of you to consider donating extra items to your processing centers for this purpose! It is sorely needed!
    IF YOU ARE NOT NEAR A PROCESSING CENTER, ITEMS CAN BE DROPPED OFF AT ANY SHOEBOX DROP-OFF LOCATION NEAR YOU!
    Thank you for watching!

    I started laughing when I saw those cups & stuffies ! I have the same exact ones and packaged almost identical to yours !!! Today, I have also been doing filler packages. I had stuffies with that 2022 on the scarf and I clipped the stitches and reversed it and restitched it and put the number on bottom. I have so much stuff, I could pack 50 more boxes, but I had to stop in order to meet my shipping. I have to come up with new ideas for shipping next year as I am praying for that. These are great fillers, Denise !

      Great minds think alike! LOL....great idea with the 2022 on the scarf. I thought about pushing that part of the scarf up and then lightly stitch the bottom...but I was exhausted. Same here....I could pack sooooo many more boxes but my shipping budget is limited. So my solution is to send as much as I can as filler! And I need to clean out my basement so I can not feel so overwhelmed. I literally can't find things sometimes...not good. LOL...I sometimes overbuy when the deals are so fantastic! Right?

    All I have to say is wow! Love all your wow filler packs. I love that each one has a wow item and practical items like school supplies and cups. The cups sets are amazing and fun. The first filler pack with the llama purse is so pretty. The one with the Angel stuffy is my favorite with the red dress. Very nice Christmas themed wow packs. Love the dinosaur pack. Of course the 10-14 pack is needed. Fingers crossed your filler packs come to my processing table in Baltimore! Thanks for sharing your ideas and beautiful packs Denise!

    Great filler packs! I also like to send filler, but mostly pencil packs and other school supplies, sometimes with toys in them. I do save most items as starters for the following year. I wonder if items might be separated out of your larger packs at the PC? For example, if one shoebox lacks school supplies and another one needs a stuffie, would they be separated?

    • @drogers
      @drogers  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a good question Lois! While I would prefer for the wow packs to be sent as I packaged them, it is very realistic to expect they might get taken apart for individual needs for boxes. I’m ok with that too! Any way the items can bless a box, I’m ok with! Great question!

      I have a BUNCH of cellophane “goodie bags” that I’m planning to use for some of the smaller groups of items. Am I better off using the twist ties that are included or would it be better to fold and tape the top, so I can fill it fuller? Thx!!

    How many half empty boxes are sent to the processing center? Are they usually from people or from churches doing multiple?

    • @drogers

      Companies donate a lot of fillers for the PCs, but so often there are no quality fillers right when we need them for the boxes, especially if we get a run of half-empty boxes. Some items donated in bulk by companies are not appropriate for the particular shoeboxes we are trying to fill at the PC. We are limited to three bins of fillers at any one time, and they could be full of stuff we can't use at any given time.
