    Something else to check is after you stop with the planter still down on the ground, grab the gage wheels, and see if they are tight on the ground or can you spin them. If they are tight then you have enough down pressure, but if you can spin one or both, you need to increase down pressure. Good luck.

      Thanks. I checked the gage wheels, and sure enough, I had to put a little more tension on the down pressure springs. I planted 22 acres and it seemed to do a good job. I will still be worried until I see the corn coming up! Lol Thanks for the advice. I hadn't thought about checking the wheels.

    I have this same planter. I have very variable soils ! From sand to hard clay. I have no row cleaners. I fought for a year to figure out what would work ! So...I use the fertilizer disc openers. Cut both bolts off ....used one newly welded bolt on only one side. Welded the new bolt square......not at an angle. Used a 14 inch culture from a Kinze planter. Added an extra down pressure spring......including the spring of the fertilizer attachment of the disc openers. I run that disc one quarter to a half inch off to one side of the main disc openers. It works 100 percent !!! No messing with down pressure on the units ! However. I needed to add 300 pound to the fertilizer boxes just to keep the tool bar from coming up and having no weight on the wheel for planting. ( in other words the drive wheels would come off the ground ) There is no way you can get enough down pressure on the units to get them to cut through hard untilled ground ! Those front coulters carry around 300 pound each. With that.....the planting units just follow. They cave off the one side of the trench that the coulter cut. My smooth closing wheels work just fine.
    The markers............ on the end of each marker......I welding a re-rod vertical of the marker bar....... 15 inches from the marker disc. I used a disc spool bolted using that re-rod ...to the marker for added weight to get the markers to cut better. I also had to cut the cams out in the disc markers to get them to turn out/ in more. This works !
    Ill never go back to tilling !

    Looks like you're gonna be ready to do no-till planting. My White 5100 is a no-till planter, but I never used it that way. I plow everything.

      I haven't used this planter for no-till before ether. Does a great job on tilled ground. I think it will do a good job on no-till. We'll see! Thanks for stopping by!!

    If you need to raise the front of the planter why not turn the drawbar on your tractor over and if that is too much then just add shims between the top side of your drawbar and the planter yoke? How do you apply fertilizer to your early growing corn needs without spreading it far from the roots of the little plant?

    Did you have problems getting depth in no till conditions this year? I had that problem this year

    • @stinsonfarms6724
      @stinsonfarms6724  ปีที่แล้ว

      At first yes. I had to adjust the down pressure springs for the hard spots to get it deep enough. And adjust my gage wheel depth to keep it from going too deep in the softer spots. It worked out good. Got a good even stand. Thanks for watching!!
