These paternosters all have very similar fixtures, handles and overall design of the cabins. Makes me wonder if they were all built by the same company. Actually, I guess they were indeed all built by the same company as they are not a very common product. I like the sculpture on the technical university building. It was inspired by the circuit symbol of a transistor. Makes sense, because the building seems to belong to the faculty of electrical engineering.
Does the metal grill above the opening slide up and trip a safety latch? Let's be real here you are not going to be able to reach the stop button when you are mangled inside it. Saying that you can open the doors on their trains when they are moving at 160kph with out any issue. Czech rep is an lovey country hope you when to Brno as well
Yeah, I think you're right. It looks like there's some kind of switch attached to that grille that prolly stops the paternoster if it is lifted. I see that the floor is hinged on the car, too. I bet that has a switch, too, if it is lifted up.
I presume if there were little "engine rooms" above and below the shaft you'd have accessed them for us ;) but is that a little machine room behind the wheel at @12:40?
I´ve been in Prague in march this year and have seen most of the paternosters that you have filmed. I didn´t know of the two in the university buildings. On the other side I´ve been in another one that isn´t shown here, it´s in Vodickova 18, not far away from U Novaku in number 28 (shown here at 11:08). And there´s one in the YMCA building, Na Poříčí 1041/12, unfortunately I have missed that one.

Wish there where still Paternosters in the netherlands. Sadly never came across one, as fas I’m aware there is only one still working. A lot of them where shut down unfortunatly. Around 2003 one was wrecked by a builder who was transporting some building materials and something got stuck wrecking it and it got taken out of service. A few years ago and 80 year old who was not very mobile got fatally injured when stepping on top of the cab during a reunion visit of an old post office building. It got taken out of service. Now I think there maybe only one left. They are an endagered species in a world where people expect 100% safety. The once common innerdoorless lifts are also becoming quite rare to find here. Oddly enough the very big Hoog Catherijne shopping centre in Utrecht (one of the most epic but also security zealos places) still has one usable by the public😇. By they way Hoog Catherijne has a lot of secret service area’s but there are camera’s everywhere.
It's safe when all safety things work properly, there are sensors which stop it when you let your arm or leg out of cabin. But it's 80 years old, so without proper maintanance and testing, it can be dangerous.
Let me tell you something sir you know why people could be injured if they have no freaking stop sensor people could get the 🤚🦶🦵👉🏻👤👣👍🏿 stock it's between the gears chain belt between a open space after paternoster list
They are not as dangerous as people thing. The only place where you can be crushed is going beyond the top floor, as there is the only place with a hard wall that comes right next to the cab. Everywhere else on the paternoster has flaps to stop people getting crushed, including the floors and the floors of the cabs. So unless there was something very heavy placed on the flaps, the only place on the entire paternoster where there is a crushing risk is the top floor, which should have sensors to prevent this.
They all lack one climatic (and calming) thing which a paternoster in Wrocław (Poland) has... The following text painted on the walls in the attic/basement inside the paternoster's shaft: TRAVEL THROUGH ATTIC* SAFE STAND STILL *slash basement
The best one is Northwick Park Hospital paternoster. There is a sign saying that further travel is dangerous. Someone had scratched away the work "not". I wonder how many people panicked at that moment. th-cam.com/video/eAVnIDQNB64/w-d-xo.html
One building have life-saving sensor not all what's paternoster list that goddamn life-saving sensor on paternoster they have to do it now if they don't duckhub maybe being ripped out for good
The paternosters are actually quite dangerous to ride on, since you may get trapped in between the floor and the lift if you do not step in fast enough!
You have, but people don't know about it, someone said few of them are in UK and in other countries. We see it in old movies from first republic era (1918-1938) so we all know such thing exists.
Most of them were originally made by Transporta, but many of them are now renovated by generic lift companies, although they usually try to make them look as close to the original as possible
You know the could get their hands fingers stuck or cart of mass your crush between chain belts people could be screaming for help 🗣️ help help somebody help me that's what they going to say is somebody hit the emergency stop button it could stop the paternoster list for moving is that button don't work well somebody will die ☠️🌹🌷
Completely different technology to a conventional lift. A continuously moving belt of small lift cars on very large bicycle chains. A little like a vertical escalator, but evolved from the "belt manlift" in factories and mines. These had small platforms, not cars.

The Czech republic and especially Prague is amazing. The trains are epic too!
I totally agree since I have been there before.
:)
The Czech Technical University in Prague actually has 3 (THREE !!!) paternosters!
Cool! I would definitely like to ride all of them.
Prague is a beautiful city. I was here back in April. Unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to ride a paternoster.
I went to Prague in late November last year. Beautiful place! :) I also didn't get to ride any lifts though :(
I have been looking for a Paternoster since 1991, with no luck. I hope to visit Prague and see the Paternoster.
Well, good luck to you!
Make sure to visit the YMCA Palace!

Great video as always
Awesome! I didn't know there are paternosters in Prague :) :)
There are apparently quite a few of them, so I've heard. Only 3 left in the UK now.
I find it funny how the escalator is basically a diagonal version of these but without the cabs and just moving steps

All or vids are very interesting! Since you decided to ride the paternosters!
It's part of our history and technical heritage, so they want to keep it operable as long time as possible.
Great to see some of your new content again, I thought you stopped posting. Turns out that TH-cam simply stopped recommending them to me.
It’s like a vertical Farris wheel that never stops. Farris oval?

Way cool! But looks like an easy way to lose an arm or leg or even a head if you're not careful, or happen to slip and fall.
2:22 why does it sound like someone is walking?
Beno, you have Czech koruna?
Is that Czech's currency?
Yes
Hi Beno, will you please return to putting "adverts" at the start of the video "This video is sponsored by the pre-bent IPhone store"

It’s a shame that you wasn’t on our old TOV 250 elevator from Czechoslovak company Transporta.

Hey ben what the hell is a paternoster?
It is a vertical escalator. The video pretty much shows what it is.

great find!
on a paternoster roping off the UP won't work. people will ride DOWN through the bottom.

I *love* paternosters!
Can this lift freefall? Or is it perfectly balanced?
It is only balanced if there is nobody in it, or there is the same amount of weight on each side.
any idea on what the "capacity" of the lift is in kg?
@@milkandduckrailway323 2 persons per car. Max load it would take is 2 persons in every car on one side only.

Hi
I do not understand the fuss about paternosters, it is faster to use stairs.

Mostly it's faster than a regular elevator because of minimal waiting times.

They are not dangerous at all. They are cleverly designed so that they are safe as long as you don't be silly.
