I don't know how. I did all this as in video, in hopes to reduce my 100ms upload latency. Doing it all, and after restarting PC, my upload ms reduced to 4!!! What the hell? Looks like all this fixed it! Thanks man!
Bufferbloat is a complex issue that is often misunderstood. The network settings adjustments on a PC suggested in the video might slightly improve performance for certain scenarios, but they do not address the root cause of bufferbloat. Bufferbloat occurs when too much data is queued up in a network device (such as a router), waiting to be sent, leading to high latency and packet loss. This problem often occurs at the narrowest point of connection, where the capacity is the smallest-often between the router and the Internet Service Provider (ISP). To effectively combat bufferbloat, solutions need to be implemented at the router or isp level. One approach is using Smart Queue Management (SQM) techniques, such as FQ-CoDel or Cake, which aim to optimize queue length, thereby reducing latency without significantly impacting throughput performance. These techniques intelligently prioritize traffic and prevent the queue from overflowing, which causes bufferbloat
They are many ways to deal with bufferbloat and the ways I showed in the video they are two main ones that do affect bufferbloat, being the autotuning level and limiting bandwidth. By disabling autotuning u avoid letting the OS increase the TCP window size largely which can cause excessive buffering. Instead it uses a static window size which would lead to a more consistent less variable network behavior, but a reduction in throughput due to less dynamics which can be seen in test results. As for limiting bandwidth which is done on the router side, you prevent the overflow of network buffers and create a more consistent data flow that the system/router can handle. As for the other things in the video, those are just little things that I added that do not make a significant difference but a little something.
@@anceltweaks Imagine our network as a funnel into which water is being poured by one or several devices simultaneously. Your optimization strategies are akin to the effort to individually control the rate at which a single device or multiple devices contribute to the overall flow, in order to prevent the funnel from overflowing. However, no matter how precisely we regulate each device’s contribution, we often encounter the problem of a funnel outlet that is too small-equivalent to the limited capacity of the connection between the router and the ISP in our network. Effectively combating bufferbloat, therefore, requires a comprehensive approach that not only involves fine-tuning on individual devices but also takes the entire network system into account to ensure a smooth and congestion-free data flow.
100% My unloaded latency is 4-5ms on a 500Mbps symmetrical fibre connection but Waveform bufferbloat would often give me an A or B rating. I have the Asus TUF AX-3000 router and have found though lots of testing, that by limiting the Adaptive QoS to a maximum cap of 300Mbps is the only way to completely eliminates Bufferbloat on this router. So far this provides a consistence A+ score with 0ms latency added for both download and upload. I believe the main limitation is due to the router CPU bottleneck which means I will need to upgrade if I wish to benefit from the full bandwidth of my connection.@@hudramina
