In the early 20th century, the dairy industry lobbied to have "peanut butter" banned, because "butter" should be a dairy product, so they called it "peanut paste". This happened in Australia.
"Peanut meal" is what you have left after you extract the oil from peanuts, also called "groundnut meal." It's used to feed livestock.

When I was in high school, I did something (honestly can’t remember what, but there was a lot of “you must respect me bc I’m the adult, and 17-year-olds don’t count as people” type of thing happening in my house, and while I definitely felt bad after the fact for some of what I said or did, I do remember that whatever this one was, I did not at all feel I had done wrong afterwards either haha) and my dad decided that my punishment was to write him an essay on respect, why it’s important, etc.
So….I wrote an essay about how everyone deserves respect in the sense of honoring basic human dignity, but that beyond that, respect needed to be earned rather than taken for granted 😂
I also feel like the philosophy of “respect your elders” relies on an old-school belief in the inherent importance/“rightness” of authority figures, which I really think younger millennials and the generations after that tend to be lacking. Even Simon talks about asking for proof if someone says they’re a cop, or if they’re coming to work on the utilities, or whatever. Older generations were brought up to respect authority figures on principle, so they wouldn’t question doctors or go looking for second opinions. They didn’t ask for proof that you were a cop when someone falsely pulled them over and then attacked them.
You don’t often hear about young people falling for phone scams or clicking on random email links, bc we grew up reading history books about Japanese internment camps and the Holocaust. Maybe we’re too cynical, but that does mean we’re a lot harder to trick. And if that means we question authority rather than follow it, well- we learned in school just how bad things can get when you blindly follow the leader. Obviously there’s still peer pressure and social conformity and whatnot, but I genuinely believe that as a whole, we’re a lot less likely to take a random person at their word just because they say they know a lot, and I don’t feel bad about that.

at about 4:00 factboy did a rant on respect: the definitions of words change over time as the use changes. I remember getting in trouble as a kid and having to write the definition of respect like 1000 times and I still remember that definition verbatim. A few years ago I noticed that the definition had changed and now includes "due regard" or basically common courtesy. Basically what happened is people used the word wrong for so long that it now has an additional definition that everyone is entitled to.

I remember hearing this saying from somewhere, "There is no ethical billionaire." The meaning being you could help out so many people without even feeling the difference to your own life and your children's life with that much money but people are just keeping it for pride and greed.

Normally this is the part where people would cite Bill Gates' altruism but, while that point still stands, he's far from ethical now that we've gotten a closer look at his personal life.

Tony Stark: Ridiculous, I don't paint.
Reporter: What about the Merchant of Death
    Stark: That's pretty good.

The US judicial system is making no sense but Simons sense of crime and punishment makes no sense either.
International illegal arms dealer gets 25 years: "it's not the same as murder, he shouldn't go to prison for life"
Guy who scammed people out of their savings with a ponzi scheme goes to jail for life: "Good, he deserves it."
All of the people on the list today deserve to go to prison for life. But Madoff is least terrible one here.

At 29:21 - A thing about the correctional department that you might not know. (My father is a retired corrections officer, so he told me a thing or two.)
Both State and Federal prison systems have Minimum, Medium, and Maximum security prisons.
The breakdown of who goes to which involves a few things, but the two that make the most sense to people outside the system are how heinous the crime was, and how much time the convict will serve.
People who are serving life sentences (ballpark of 25+) and death sentences are sent to Maximum Security. They are going to be there for a long time, so there is nothing left to lose.
As such... A "white collar" crime that gets what amounts to a life sentence, and a violent crime that gets a life sentence, will earn both perpetrators time in a Maximum security prison. Life is life.
As much as some people would think that "but this one didn't commit a violent offense! Surely he shouldn't be in the same place as violent offenders!" sort of makes sense, that isn't how it works. Life is life, and Maximum is Maximum. They are in it together, for better or for worse.

They love ALL of your channels - as do I, and the fact that they’re Whistle-Boy fans makes me love them all the more !! 😂😂 They were listening to a Geographics episode on Indonesia with the super volcano, and the fact that it has the biggest lake in a volcano crater there. They were saying that ‘Simon says’ if that super volcano was to blow then civilisation could be completely wiped out depending on the direction of the winds at the time of eruption…😮😮 I’m going to watch that episode after this and completely scare myself silly..😂😂

I'm not saying she's totally to blame for her predicament, but it's like 90% her fault.
