Something that these videos never seem to acknowledge is the reason the F-22 was so expensive. They cut the contract well short of the original 750 planned F-22's. Thus the R&D costs of the entire program were spread over 180 figters rather than 750, which is why the unit cost is so astronomical. Had they built the full contract numbers, I would bet the unit cost would be more comparable to the F-35.
Kind of true. The F35 has some other things about it that may make it a little cheaper. The F35 only has one engine, it doesn't have thrust vectoring, and it is smaller overall. The F35 does have some very advanced avionics though. There are also so vastly different adaptations of the F35 of which one has vertical takeoff and landing capabilities like the old Harrier.
@@midnightrider1100 The F22 program was killed for the B--2 program as the development cost for the bomber was far exceeding original costs. F22 at that time didnt have a "mission" as the cold war had just ended and the isiots in DC got greedy every opportunity.

F22 pilots, when on exercises against 4th generation fighters, called it killing baby seals.
Stealth used to be slower cuz the aerodynamic friction would ruin its RAM coating but they recently developed better more durable radar absorbent material that is ceramic based that's good even in the hypersonic regime. Next gen stealth will be invisible and fast like jets of the past
Just like the SR-71. It was limited in speed by it's nose "cone" (wasn't really shaped like a cone). Even though it was titanium, the Blackbird was so fast that it generated so much heat that the titanium would warp. When this happened, it had to be reheated and beat back into shape. The aircraft was reported to be limited to Mach 3.2 . The funny thing is, I had a book about it when I was much younger, and it said Mach 3.5 was the limit, but the aircraft could go much, much faster. The altitude limit is said to be 90,000 feet. The book I had said 120,000 is where the would routinely stay at, with the ability to go higher. If I remember correctly, it said that it was only limited by the lack of oxygen at altitude for the engines to burn, and the lack of air to flow over the control surfaces, allowing the aircraft to be controlled.
I had several books like these. When I say book, don't imagine a book like you get at the bookstore. These were more like briefs on the aircraft, their specs, as well as capabilities. They always had an instruction section on how to correctly and safely fly them, as decided by the test pilots based on the knowledge they gained during the experiment stages. My uncle was an instructor at Miramar. Once he found out that his young nephew was very interested in aviation (he only had daughters, and they didn't care about flying at all), he sent me all kinds of stuff, those books included. I'm not sure if I should have had them, or a lot of the stuff he sent me to be honest lol., Especially considering it was the late 70's -early 80's when he did this, so the cold war was still in full swing. That information was probably not meant for a kid to have, and use in a book report in 2nd grade lol! I wish I still had them, I'm not sure what ever became of them. Hell, they may still be at my parent's house tucked away somewhere! That's what started my love for the sexiest aircraft ever made, the RS-71. That's what it was meant to be, but President Johnson misspoke during a speech where he announced the aircraft's existence to the world. He called it the SR-71, and no one wanted to go on record correcting what a president had said. The "R" stands for "reconnaissance" and the "S" is not that easy. When I read about it now, people say it's for "strategic", but the book I had said it was for "surveillance". This would roll of the tongue better, "LOOK, it's the new Reconnaissance/Surveillance 71 !" or "LOOK, it's the new Surveillance/Reconnaissance 71 !" than if the "S" was for "Strategic". Not that rolling off the tongue is high on the list of things the military and CIA were/are worried about lol!
The cost of the F-22 is higher because it is a US-only limited production run plane, the cost of the F-35 is lower because it is open to allies and has a higher production run and a lot of the R&D was already there from the F-22. The F-22's replacement is already in the works as well. The B-21 Raider (replacement for the B-2 and B-one) will be unveiled in December this year and is supposed to be a great leap over the previous model.
The F35 also is not as stealthy

You should react to the capability of the f-22 raptor. I went to the Marine Air Station Miramar Air show and watching that aircraft and what I can do, was insane.
We are your Allies. We sent the UK munitions in World War 1. And you let us use your airfields to launch air attacks and reconnaissance missions. The same thing happened in World War Two.

Our nephew flew an f16 and the newer f18 and f35. Then he became a test fighter. He’s now a pilot for Delta Airlines. Correction. I know he flew the f35 but don’t recall the other. Nor do I know what planes he was a test pilot for.

@@victorwaddell6530 And the most versatile. Naval aviators are expected to perform many of the same missions their land based brothers do plus many that they cannot. Combined they are just about unbeatable.

@@victorwaddell6530 Also a Navy vet. An AO in an A-7E squadron. On my first deployment our sister squadron had a TAD Air Force pilot. He had some interesting stories about the differences.
The price difference comes down to finding faster and cheaper ways to build the plane it has NOTHING to do with cutting corners. The quality of the build is exactly the same if not better now.
The F22 Raptor is the best plane in the world currently for what it is designed to do, but it does have things it doesnt excel at, while the F35 is more of a jack of all trades master of none, but still an amazing jet fighter
From my understand the f-22 are mainly focused on fighting aircraft and some bombing missions, but are mainly for battle. The f-35 on the other hand was built to replace a lot of different platforms and be used for multiple purposes whether that be dogfighting, bombing runs, scouting, or any other mission, multiple variants were created to serve different needs other than just fighting.
The F-22/F-35 combo can be thought of as an updated version of the F-15/F-16 combo. The air superiority fighters (i.e, F-22s or F-15s) clear the skies of enemy fighters to enable more vulnerable aircraft to operate safely over the battlespace. The multirole fighters can then focus on strike or close air support missions, but still can defend themselves if enemy fighters unexpectedly appear.
the real combo is the F-22 and A-10 (old or new). Never felt safer on the ground than when I knew an A-10 was flying over me.
Based on your enjoyment of this, unless you've already seen it, you should try the video called "This Blue Angels Cockpit Video is Terrifying and Amazing". You ride along with the Captn of the U.S. Navy's Blue Angels as they practice their flying routines. When you see from this angle how truly close they are to each other, it's freaky. And it fun to have the cockpit view, especially when they fly upside down. These pilots are the absolute best. Happy October to you both!

Tech is amazing, but remember that US aviation has been conducting near non-stop combat missions since around 1980. The 80's saw multiple skirmishes with Libya, plus the invasions of Grenada and Panama, and the so-called "Tanker War" fought against Iran. This rolled neatly into the 1990's and Desert Storm, the No-Fly Zone over Iraq (and related up-tempo strikes when decided it was necessary), and the two interventions in the former Yugoslavia. Then came 9/11 and the wars that followed.
There is not a nation on Earth that has that level of experience. Not even close.
I love watching the live streaming, Jet guy in Britain; it's great that the UK also has a great love of their airplanes.
I live in California US where we used to have many air bases and air shows.
These all focus entirely on the tech, which is impressive, granted, but, overlook the thing that makes the U.S. military great, the people! Our military is all volunteer, and, they are the most highly trained, and, well motivated war fighters in the world.
I wouldn’t say it’s volunteer. Yes, they choose to go in but they get paid and have good benefits.

The U.S. Air Force bases are positioned around the world. There are 57 AF bases in the U.S. There are 2 in the United Kingdom(1 in Cambridge, and 1 in London}. There are 2 in Germany, and 1 in Italy. Japan has 3, and Korea has 1. We also have 54 Air National Guard squadrons in the states and territories.

It's not "don't mess with U.S. Army".....it's U.S. Military. It consists of Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard to some.
And space force
The Marines, Seals, and Coast Guard actually all fall under the Navy.

@@BonusRoundTube the Coast Guard is only under the Dept of Navy in times of declared war, which is to say pretty much never. CG is considered a separate branch and is under the Dept of Homeland Security these days; back in MY day is was Treasury Department. Obviously Seals are navy but they’re just sailors and navy officers, there’s never been doubt about that. Yes Marines are under the Dept of the Navy but are considered a separate branch of the military when speaking of branches.

James, if you want to go on an aircraft carrier, usually when it pulls into a port they give tours, at least when I was in the Navy. If you have friends in the US that are in the Navy, they have a 1 day cruise where you go out and see everything that happens.

I would say if you come to north Eastern United States you have to check out a lot f places. Like in Connecticut they have the New England air museum which is amazing. Then In mass there’s a place called battle ship cove. You get to go and check out all the ships they have. I remember as a kid in cub scouts we got to stay overnight on the battle ship. It was the best thing ever.
Uggh, those clips of ships and aircraft carriers - Naval Aviation is NOT part of the US Air Force, it’s obviously part of the US Navy. Same reaction whenever someone thinks Top Gun is about the Air Force. Two different services.

Actually our local A-10s 122nd fighter wing Indiana Air Guard) are slated to be replaced with F-16s in the near future.
@@kdrapertrucker I am sorry to hear that. I know a lot of soldiers that really love the A10. If you are happy about it, hey I am all for it. I just think the A10 is best. Personal opinion. Of course an A10 with backup StratoFortress is a badass combo.
On the ground attack programs of the F35, will never take as much punishment as the A10 but the A10 has a bigger radar signature so It could get hit by missiles easier.
I find it interesting that they're talking about the U.S. Air Force and show an aircraft carrier, something the Air Force will NEVER deal with as they aren't trained to land on them. If it isn't solid ground, the Air Force fighters don't land on it! LOL When I was in the Air Force, I was fortunate enough to get a ride in an F-4 Phantom (with a hot shot pilot who decided to try to scare the hell outta me) and it was incredible. He was a former Thunderbird pilot and did an upside down pass over the runway at about 100 feet altitude.
We may soon find out how good these planes are soon.
Stealth is a little deceiving & hard to explain. At distance, it is truly hard to see. The plane has to go into stealth mode to achieve this. But as the stealth plane gets closer to radar, it is much easier to see. As it flies overhead, there is little difference between it & a regular plane. So they try to avoid radar sites especially when they get closer to one. Some have even said Stealth is fake because they are easily seen on radar at airshows. Which is just the plane obviously really close to radar. The F-35 is a killer due to networking capability which the F-22 is limited. Imagine a strike force of 16 drones controlled by one F-35. You have 17 planes controlled by one pilot. F-22 is an air superiority beast.

At 1:37 the narrator is talking about the USAF and showing carriers. That would be the US Navy which has the second most powerful air force.
Don't forget, the US Navy has their OWN versions of the F-35.....that's why it's called the "Joint Strike Fighter"!
The F22 is being replaced and the new fighter is under testing. The B2 is also being replaced and the new B21 will be shown to the public next month.
One thing the video didn't address isn't just the advanced tech of American jet fighters, it's also the numbers of each aircraft that exist. For example Russia has 5th generation Su-57s and Su-75s which are stealth fighters too, but what they don't advertise is that they only possess 12 of the former and 15 of the latter, that's it. Compare that to both the 5th generation F-35s and F-22s which America currently has over 700 of the former, and 200 of the latter. Air superiority isn't just more advanced tech, it's also sheer numbers to overwhelm the enemy.

It’s not expected that Russia will have a prototype until late in 2023. It’s also supposedly being built mainly for export at a ridiculously cheap price to compete with the F35. Make your own assessment of what the quality of that will be?

There is always the argument between capability and numbers. They supplement each other and are not equal.
F-22 was so advance when it was produced that congress said "we will never export" the F-35 was made for "export" to allies and other roles.
These "newer" fighters are the ones we know about, they are really old technology compared to other jets they have that you and I won't know about.
US Air Force is largest in the world, and US Navy has the second largest !

I noticed that This was just USAF, not US Navy which which has the world's second largest air force and primarily operates F/A-18 Super Hornets (the ones featured in the new Top Gun) not mentioned in this video bus shown is some of the stock video.
The Navy also has F35B variant and some F16N’s.

The next big upgrade to the 5th generation aircraft will be a drone entourage. Ran out of missiles? Just aim and fire, and your drone escort will fire one. Low on fuel? Drone refueler. Missile tracking your aircraft? One of your drones will put itself in the way.
The F35 can also be the QB to F15’s loaded to the gills with missiles as well as drones. It’s avionics are advanced enough to link with almost anything and take on the role of a AWACS.
It is standard U.S. doctrine to be able to fight two simultaneous fronts at once and win. The military knows how to cover weaknesses and psychology.
Jets aren’t typically used against ground targets, with the exception of bombers, of course. It’s usually the helicopters, the warthog, and the AC-130 that are used against ground targets, but the Warthog and the Angel are desperation craft. You’re more likely to see a Blackhawk, Viper, or Apache strike at ground targets, usually using hellfire missiles and whatever side cannons they get equipped with. It’s rather odd but I guess effective to have a standard style fighter be anti-ground. That said, one thing that fighters can actually be pretty decent against are ships. Large, slow targets with a wide view over open water. But they’re more often to be used to counter enemy aircraft. Helicopters tend to be their favorite prey-like a bird diving for an insect.

James, have you seen the new "Top Gun: Maverick" movie yet? It is sick!!! So awesome! Best action movie I have ever seen involving fighter jets! So realistic. The way it's shot you really feel like you are the one in the plane during the aerial flying scenes! So good! I've seen it 4 times already and am never going to get tired of watching it. Of the top 5 most powerful air-forces in the world 4 are the USA. 1) US Air force 2) US Navy 3) Russian Air force 4) US Army Aviation 5) US Marine Corps according to the World Directory of Modern Military Aircraft's 'TruValueRating'. I'd also like to point out that the F-22 is 1990's technology. It was first flown in 1997.
You know the F-22 Raptor is something special when the US doesn't allow it to be sold to any other country including allies. F-35 can be customized and sold to almost any country. The full extent of the F-22's capabilities is Classified and probably TS.
It is important to understand that when in the air, these two aircraft serve very different roles. While they are capable of doing the job of one another, they are nowhere close to efficient at it. An F-35 cannot hold nearly as good of a loadout of weaponry for an air-to-air mission as an F-22 just as the F-22 cannot hold nearly as good of an air-to-ground loadout as an F-35. But this is what makes them compliment one another so well.
If there was a situation where aircraft were sent into a highly contested area, the F-22s would be hunting down and eliminating other fighters while also giving cover to the F-35s as they start mapping the area of ground and air targets with their advanced sensor suite and taking out communications, radar systems, and Surface-to-air threats while feeding any target information to the F-22s that they would benefit from. Meanwhile in this scenario, B-2 bombers could be pursuing large targets that require a heavier payload than the F-35 can muster. It is all about filling all gaps. Now this example situation is way oversimplified but it should give an idea of how each aircraft would fulfill their role together.
The problem that usually arises outside of the cost of an advanced air superiority fighter like the F-22 is that it is less actively needed in a war. We started seeing this issue even with the F-15 which is the air superiority fighter the F-22 was meant to replace. You need fighters capable of shooting anything out of the sky but rarely do enemies have many advanced fighters to warrant them. It is one of the reasons the F-22 has seen little action in all the years of war in the middle east. There has been nothing that the 4th gen aircraft couldn't handle. So the F-22s have spent most their time training or establishing no fly zones or being sent to locations to deter an enemy from acting. The very first combat mission that an F-22 was a must to partake in was in Syria (I think in 2014) and it was a bomb run that required both stealth and speed. If that happened today, the F-35 would be sent.
That being said, Russia and China do have 5th gen fighters with China being the real threat as they have them in more significant numbers with more on the way and China has said they are working on a 6th gen. This is why the 6th gen air superiority fighter is currently being worked on. Suddenly, the number of F-22s doesn't feel like nearly enough despite their lack of action over the years against lesser technologically advanced enemies.
Alright, so, something about NATO battle doctrine:
The air war is where the battle is won. Once air dominance has been achieved the boots and tracks can do what they do. For the United States in the 21st Century this boils down to two principle aircraft: The F-35 and F-15EX. That EX is the "+" part of 4th generation "plus." It's actually a bigger deal than the US Air Force likes to let on.
So, like, you might recall a few years ago strategic experts saying that stealth was dead. It kind'a is, except that it's not dead in the way you think it's dead. The United States has been looking to "crack" its own stealth technology for a long time, just in case other countries develop in that direction. The F-15EX is that crack. It carries highly sophisticated electronic warfare packages designed to defeat stealth technology, the same technology the US had had a monopoly on for much of the later half of the 20th Century. The F-15EX is intended to work with the F-35 as both an air superiority fighter and electronic warfare platform, linking with the F-35's sensor fusion engine to provide navigable battlefield data.
Why the F-15?
The F-15 is the pre-eminent 4th generation air superiority fighter. It was designed to counter the MiG-25, which is an example of how wires get crossed in an arms race. The MiG-25 made more use of stainless steel because it was intended to be a very high speed interceptor (just shy of Mach 3), which meant it needed larger wings to carry the load. But, to NATO aircraft designers this larger wing area meant more maneuverability. They concluded the MiG-25 to be an air superiority fighter instead of an interceptor, so design on the F-15 was begun. The F-15 was designed to be an apex predator from the beginning. To date it is the pinnacle of air superiority fighter design, at least at 4th generation. As an aside, one of the reasons 5th generation fighters make extensive use of thrust vectoring is because stealth geometries (sharp angles and edges, more flat planes) are not aerodynamic geometries (smooth, round, tear-drop shapes). Thrust vectoring makes up for this deficiency, but the F-15 was built without this need for stealth in mind, so its design is pure aerodynamic superiority. So, even without thrust vectoring the F-15 is a very deadly aircraft. All it lacks is stealth, and it is not possible to make the F-15 stealthy without sacrificing its aerodynamic geometry. So, what to do?
The F-15EX was born.
Take the F-15, and in the absence of stealth geometry, add extensive electronic warfare capabilities, radar jamming, radar spoofing, even data warfare capabilities able to more or less figure out where enemy stealth assets might be, take this apex predator and turn it into a flying server able to capitalize on all the data provided to it by F-35s that *are* stealthy, and send it into a fight where it can see all the prey in the sky. It is a 4th generation fighter with fifth generation capabilities. 4th+. If you are an adversary dealing with hostile US fighters in the sky, it is not the F-35 you should be overly worried about. It's flight capabilities aren't actually that amazing, but what it does have is a sensor fusion engine that is sending your exact position to an F-15 that does have amazing flight capabilities that is going to ruin your day one way or another. Either the F-15EX or F-35 is going to make the kill shot. One merges, the other sits back and makes sure you're dead.
The F-15EX pairs with the F-35 to ensure complete air superiority. And just in case, there might be an F-22 lurking in the area. But they'd never know.

The F-22's main role is air superiority. They would kill any enemy planes allowing the F-35's to penetrate deep into enemy territory to carry out ground attacks. The best way to describe the difference between them is the F-35 is a multi role aircraft that can dogfight. The F-22 is a dogfighter, period. There are capabilities in the F-22 we don't even know about. The F-35 is being exported to many countries, but by an act of congress, the F-22 cannot ever be exported. Great video!!! Your not going to find it is the point. I believe they have technology out there they are not going to tell you about because its so advanced and doesn't need to be released for security disclosure to the public.

The F-35 also has a carrier version that has a strong enough frame and landing gear to work off an aircraft carrier. The F-35B also has a vertical take-off and landing capability. This lets it work off of a light carrier like the Wasp and America class amphibious assault ships. Most countries only have these smaller carriers and they are limited to Harriers or helicopters. The F-35B is MUCH faster, far more stealth, has a longer range, can carry more, and way more advanced features than either. This turns the light carriers many countries operate can operate 10-20 F-35B easily and this makes them 10x more capable. Seeing as the US operates 1 Super Carriers and around 10 light carriers...
The F-22 competes more with the F-15. The F-35 competes against the Harrier, the F/A-18, and the F-16. The 6th generation fighter will likely compete only against the F-22 and F-15. Also understand when they are talking costs. A modernized F-16 with new radar and electronics and upgraded engines... and not even talking stealth would cost abut $80 million or about the same as the F-35A. Now the F-35B is significantly more expensive at something like $115 million. The F-35C is not as bad at something closer to $90 million. Really though the development costs and the number built dictate the cost heavily. If the F-22 had been built in larger numbers the cost per unit would have dropped significantly. After about 500 it likely would have been closer to $110-120 million and by 1000 it would have been more in the $90-100 million range.
Those planes are not all Air Force. Navy and Marines have bombers too.
As an air superiority fighter, I think the F-35 is probably ok, though I haven't investigated the question seriously. My sense however is that the most disappointing thing about the F-35, which should have been predictable to anyone who was thinking it through, is that it can't really do proper close-air-support of ground troops, and is really too expensive to devote to that role anyhow, especially in an asymmetric conflict. This should have been obvious ahead of time, because it's a *fighter* and that's just not what fighters do, but some bureaucrats got it in their head that it should be possible to design a plane that can fulfill all combat roles, and so no new CAS aircraft was developed, on the theory that the JSF would be able to do that. It really can't, which means that apart from drones, there's really nothing that can replace the aging A-10; unless drones end up being up to the task, which remains unproven, this is going to be a real problem in another twenty years or so. Why anyone ever thought it made sense to try to make a plane that could be both an air superiority fighter *and* a CAS craft, is entirely beyond me, as the roles are inherently very very different. Among other things, fighters have to be fast, and CAS craft really need to be slow. (Ideally, CAS aircraft should be able to slow down enough to keep pace with tanks, without stalling or becoming unstable. Admittedly, the A-10 cannot fly quite that slow, but it can get MUCH closer to it than any air superiority fighter.) Eh, maybe we'll get lucky and unmanned drones will prove up to the task.
At least they didn't try to make the JSF replace the C-130 and the Los Angeles class subs as well. Perhaps some levels of stupidity are too much even for military brass.
I served in the United States Airforce and I can definitely say ,even seeing inside of these fighter jets like the F-16, we are more advanced than another country in the world in my opinion.
You ought to watch the movie (or read the book) "The Right Stuff." It's all about the American Mercury program to put Americans into space ahead of the Russians/Soviets. It's an epic 3hr film that stars a ton of actors you'll recognize...from 40 years ago.
There are 3 things most people do not think about. The US has a MASSIVE logics capability. Not only do they have the whole Navy they can bring 10s of thousands of troops and thousands of vehicles and other assets to the battle field as well as 10 carrier fleets and about 60+ missile destroyers... but they can provide emergency power to nations through nuclear powered subs (about 2 gigawatts per sub) and transport massive amounts of supplies through the land, sea, or air.
Second is their leadership. The US has basically been at war since its start and has learned and developed a lot. This leadership is passed down. Unlike countries like Russia where the biggest things troops have to do is follow order to the Tee and never deviate, the US gives its troops far more flexibility and responsibility to find solutions to problems, but also back them up with the training to help them make those decisions.
Third is they are becoming more and more digital as time goes on. Even squads had great situational awareness of what other squads, air support, naval, or artillery in the area are doing. Most assets can now share data like radar images from ground units, to naval units, to air units, and even ground installations, radar planes, and satellites. They can also say have an F-35 200 miles ahead lock onto a ground target and have a missile destroyer fire at that target... or an F-15, or B-1, or HIMARS...
Add to all of this some of the best hardware in the world in larger amounts than any other country and the US is a power house. Some of these new missiles in particular are really making the US much stronger. Things like the AIM-260 or the Peregrine missile, or the small diameter bombs or the stealth cruise missiles, of the GLRMS and PrSM missiles for the HIMARS... or the advances is defensive missiles (and their programming) or the advances in laser weapons. Just in the from say 2008 to 2028... a 20 year period... the advancements literally doubled or even tripled the strength of the US. The US has been pushing some crazy technology and unlike in the 70s, 80s, and 90s... has FAR less dud programs. Divisions like DARPA also really push the edge of technology. Things are also becoming more modular so they are far easier to upgrade, making them last MUCH longer and be more cutting edge in the long run. Heck they already have upgrade packages planned for the F-35 that are likely being rolled into current production. The Changed several things on the Gerald R. Ford carriers and they only have one in service.

There are just some crazy things the US is capable of. Their missile defense systems can knock satellites out of orbit or take down an ICBM in space. The new AIM-260 can fire blind from say a stealthy F-35 based on information from an AWAX 400 miles away... then as the missile gets closer it can lock on the enemy fighter jet with IR or ever detect and target the enemy's own radar and track with that. With no targeting radar the enemy likely will not know a missile has locked onto it and with multiple targeting devices it would be near impossible to block all 3 lock-ons. The missile is also hypersonic so the enemy fighter would have less time to react if it is even able to detect the missile (most radar on jets only scan what is in front of you. With the F-35 being hard to detect unless within 20km, they can get behind enemy jets and actually do not even need to turn to fire at them any more. They just shoot past them at 20+ miles away and launch a missile as they fly by and the enemy will likely never know until they blow up.
There is also a new Peregrine missile which is the same as the AIM-260 but is half as long so they can fit 2x as many inside the F-35 (and other jets). It does have about half the range at likely something around 100km instead of 200km, but it is also hypersonic so it travels at Mach 5+. With the new weapon racks in the F-35A and C they could carry 12 of these internally. They could also mix and match them like 2 HARM missiles (made for taking out ground radar and SAM sites), 4 Paracrine missile and 2 AIM-260. With a US carrier able to carry up to around 80 or so F-35 you could have 20 of these up front clearing the way and the ones behind in beast mode with cruise missiles and 2000 pound JDAMS. The AGM-158 currently has range of 550 miles and there is an anti ship version with about a 350 mile range, but they are upgrading these to have over double the range. The normal one has a range of 1200 miles. They also can replace the warhead with a CHAMP, which lets the missile send out controlled EMP bursts toward the ground to take out radar, electronics, computers, and communication equipment. The missile can have a preprogrammed course and do around 100 pulses before it is detonated to destroy the technology. They could likely also put a nuclear warhead in it if the really wanted.

The F-22 is probably the most athletic plane in existence. But in the modern battles space, dog fights don't exists. It's all long range missiles. So technically, even though an F-35 is bigger, slower etc, they're equally good at sending the same long range missiles 7 miles to kill an enemy. So why pay twice as much for a plane that's better in a dog fight that they'll never be in.

It's after midnight here and I don't have time to go into all of it but saying that the F-35 is a great fighter is a crock of💩! The list of what's wrong with it is a long list that the DOD has admitted to. The US and allies putting so much faith in it has given me more than one sleepless night.

We have 200 F22s, Which no other country can match at this time.. with numbers oor tech. so not really a great use of money for shear Air dominance that we already have 200 of...the F35 is almost as capable and can fill differant roles for half the money....
