Was proud to have served 7 years in the US Marines and I think what separates us even beyond the funding is the culture in the US. Someone has to do it and we have the tech and funds to do it. It has nothing to do with being an ugly American, bragging, things like that. Its the truth. Our military budget is massive. I'm from the US and I personally believe our military spending is a necessity because China has a stated plan to be the superpower on the planet by 2055. They also are trying to supplant the dollar with the yuan as the world's fiat currency at the same time. They probably will have a hard time doing that because they manipulate their currency. We are not the world's "bully" like some think. We try to prevent other nations with goals to change the world's balance of power. I personally believe we have to spend on our military and I also wish we didn't have to do so.

They believe they’re the center of the universe, the rightful rulers of the planet, and they even go so far to claim ownership of the sun, the planets and the stars themselves. I strongly disagree with you but understand your point. I think we could split our military spending in half and still effortlessly be the biggest "superpower" in the world, which i also dont have a problem with other countries being as powerful as us. Nobody will ever invade us because it's almost impossible, and a ton of our military efforts and spending just go to proxy wars and destabilizing small countries governments. If we were doing objectively good things with the funding then i wouldnt mind, but we've used that money to go towards some horrible things that has caused irreversible damage to other countries. Of course having the biggest military in the world has perks, but when it comes at the expense of citizens well-being i think that money could go to better things. I will say that the US military budget could cut 100-160 billion dollars by slashing a section of the R&D portion that's used for "arming and equipping us allied forces". If our allies spent their own money properly on their defense, we could triple every service member's pay and still have 100 billion dollars spare to use on procurement of new jets, tanks, vehicles, guns, etc.

I served in the USA military for 30 years at relatively high levels and can say USA defense (or defence for our British friends) spending is very inefficient, but that's the nature of democracies by design for the sake of integrity and fairness. The USA spends more on defense than the next 10 nations combined. The next closest nations in terms of military spending are China, India and Russia. I have no insight into the efficiency of these nation's expenditures, but I believe whatever advantages attained in efficiency are more than lost in corruption. The size of a nation's military force is of little value if it can't be brought to bear at the point of the fight. The USA is uncontested in it's ability to project military power anywhere in the world--there's not a close second. Although the USA provides more humanitarian assistance than ALL other nations combined, not even considering private donations which would multiple this factor greatly, I wish the USA could divert more resources from defense to humanitarian purposes, both domestically and internationally, but until people can be physically safe, what else matters?

USA feared going in to a head on war with the Nazis out of fear they would lose,
Us Brits met the Nazis head on in battle of Britain and beat them,
Also America had said we were going to lose the battle of Britain,. Got that wrong didn't they,
In 1982 Britain went to war when Argentina invaded the Falklands island again USA said give them the islands it's impossible to take them back,
So our navy and marines and Gurkhas sailed to Falklands. And took back the islands ,.
America said it was impossible wow got that wrong. Didn't they
Also in war games USA has been unable to defend its self from UK nuking it twice,
Plus our marines. Made their navy seals quit in war games ,
Plus mighty America don't want to take on china in a war ,
Britain been their done that we beat Americas boogeyman china in the opium wars,
America fears going in to a head on war with Russia yet Britain used to own part of Russia,
We were winning wars before America was a country ,. It's in our DNA it's genetic
Romans were in UK for 400 years UK even had its own Roman emperor Constantine the 3rd,
400 years. That's a lot of marriages and breeding with us Brits ,
Ain't it funny. Before any Roman interaction we couldn't win a war got conquered by everyone,.
Yet after 400 years of Roman interaction we suddenly can win nearly every war we fight including 2 world wars,. Plus we had the biggest empire in history,
Yeah the warrior Romans left their DNA in Britain, and American basically come from us. ,

The US spends 2x as much per person on medical care than GB (14% GDP) ... so about half of that is wasted. Switzerland is a good example of mixed public/private care. But given the size of the job, the US is spending one third as much per capita on military now compared to the 1960. More of a quality R*D budget, rather than a quantity budget (3.5% GDP)

Knowing that we are viewed as the premier military power in the world brings me a lot of peace of mind. Though I do wish our military spending was done in a way that is more cost effective, there is a lot of unnecessary spending due to military contractor jacking up prices for the military when there are hundreds of civilian companies that can produce the same parts for much cheaper.

Guys, as flattered as some of us Americans are by this, NO COUNTRY can win a war against the rest of the world. China alone now has greater military capacities than we do and the EU has greater GDP. We'd run out of money long before they do. Many other countries also have nuclear weapons. Plus, let's not forget that our foreign military bases are at the discretion of THOSE countries. The second we're not allies anymore, you really think they're gonna let us run a military base in THEIR country??? You all are also forgetting one of tge biggest factors, a country's POPULATION and the Eastern countries have the highest in the world. So please stop the delusions. No one can win against the world.
The biggest lesson for great powers that history teaches but we sadly never learn is DON'T GET COCKY. There's NO such thing as invincible and no one remains the strongest or best forever. How many tines hasn't the strongest power in the world at the time lost a war to a far lesser??? Heck, our OWN history teaches that! Don't fall into the trap of thinking we're unbeatable. That's a sure fire way to exactly bring about our downfall. 😑

Britain is pretty much the technological equal of the U.S. In fact the U.S. fields several missiles and precision bombs designed by Britain. The M1A1 Abrams tank was originally clad in British "Chobham" armor. The U.S.Navy still to this day retains many of the traditions it inherited from the Royal Navy. Basically the American and British armed forces are essentially joined at the hip like a Siamese twin. In fact the U.K. was involved in the design of the S.T.O.V.L. version of the F-35 right from the start so that that version of the F-35 could be used by the Royal Navy, as it in fact now is. Additionally the U.k. and the U.S. are collaborating on not only providing Australia with nuclear powered (but not nuclear armed) submarines, they're also helping Australia to build out the industrial base required to start designing and building their own nuclear powered submarines from scratch so that China thinks a lot more than twice before ever trying to threaten or coerce Australia a second time. I could go on, and on, and on again. But I think you get the idea. Which is why there are SIX reasons You Shouldn't Mess With The U.K. (the sixth reason being the S.A.S.). God save the King. Best wishes from the other side of the pond. And may the ravens forever reside at the Tower of London.

In the 1770's, America was but a young nation. In very specific terms, we told the British king that we would not go quietly. We kicked his military out of our country and they've not been back since, in a forceful manner. In December 1941, Japan caught us with our pants down. We showed them in the Doolittle Raid what Amercia can do. And when we finished their butts after 2 atomic bombs, it put them in their place. Then in September 2001, the USA was again caught in a relaxed state. But because the terrorists plucked a feather from the bird, it turned into a bear & killed the leader of the terrorist group. We keep our military strong so that when we have an objective, we will desecrate the enemy so much that they will never think about wanting to try their crap against us again. It's just too bad that we can't 'upgrade' our current president like we can upgrade our military equipment. lol

The spending is not as much as you think. The US only spends 3 percent of its GDP on military. But. The GDP is so large that it gives a lot of money in that measly 3%. Saudi Arabia spends 6% of its GDP for 40 billion while the US spends 3% for 800 billion.
You should watch a video called "how strong is the US military and why is it considered the strongest" by need for knowledge. They go over all the details and numbers in more depth. I also recommend you watch "the us military transport system" and "mapping every US base" as a lot of the budget goes to bases. I'd also recommend "how geography made the US OP" it also explains why the US location makes the US strong in general.

The reason why we win is the US dollar is still the basis of the value for world currency. Other countries can produce but we consume. We are taxed via 6 different systems , have had 4 doublings of total cash in-circulation in the last 20 years ( reduced the value of the US dollar by nearly 300% ) and still have the worlds largest GDP. All the corrupt profit from America so we cannot lose any war. China owes 6 times it`s GDP to the IMF and only 2% of its population live above US poverty levels. CCP got wealthy from under-valued currency and a constant trade inversion for more than 40 years. (they sold more than they bought). All governments use trade treaties to supersede their perspective laws and private money lines the pockets of politicians to ship jobs to China and other cheap labor markets. Ever notice how cheap labor is in countries under some sort of dictatorship? The only good news is there is no real equity in their system and it breaks without a reset. They still control natural resources, manufacturing, shipping, global and local trade, most food production and medical. FYI - The "They" is the underlying system of world currency. BlackRock owns Pfizer, but who owns BlackRock?

Re: The immense US defense budget.
It's a common fallacy people have to look at the USA for example spending $755 billion a year on defense and thinking if we just stopped doing that, we'd suddenly have 755B free to spend on other things, doesn't work that way. The US defense complex is a largely self-feeding beast because most of what we use is built here. Every dollar spent creates jobs, taxes, economic activity on many levels. You'd be lucky to reclaim out 1/5th of that money to actually spend on anything else, and you probably wouldn't get anything because of the lost taxes, unemployment, retraining, etc.
This is the result of a defense production advantage that has been accumulating continuously since WWII, 80 years of compounded expertise and advantage. If you ever gave it up, you'd never get it back even if you wanted to. The TH-camr Perun did a fascinating study of this very subject a few months ago, highly recommend you check that video out it's brilliant:

It sometimes surges to 5%, but it doesn't usually last very long before returning to the normal amount. Anyone that tells you different is lying to you. Actually every NATO member country is supposed to be spending the same percentage of their GDPs. Most haven't.

I know that China has done ALOT of reverse engineering, trying to replicate US technology. However, it’s uncertain how much of what they’re copying they really understand. Also, the logistics of warfare really puts them at a disadvantage. Because of the US’s location and geography, we’ve been forced to develop systems to fight abroad. That means moving massive assets around. China currently is just not prepared to do that. Mainly because they haven’t needed to before. While they may be working on changing that, they’re still significantly behind. Instead I’ve noticed them really focus on asymmetrical tactics, like hacking and sabotage. They’re really good at that and we’ve caught them several times breaking into our infrastructure that way.

The cockiness is understandable, but it is also a crutch that makes people feel unstoppable and we all know from U.S. history that is not always the case. The biggest thing that works to our advantage is our patriotism, I know there seems to be a divide with American people, but it's akin to how you might treat an annoying relative or sibling, you can pick on them all you want, but if someone else steps and picks on them, the you will defend them to no end. I love watching your reaction videos. You ask the question should America spend all this amount of money on the Military or put it towards health care. Please realize that there are some people in America that take advantage of health care programs. I knew one girl that was on welfare she would get an extra $400 monthly for each child she had (while already getting a hefty amount from the government), so she had 4 more kids which amounted to an extra $1600 monthly, understand the extra money given by the government for her kids wasn't always spent on the kids. People should be able to provide for themselves unless physically unable to work. Too many people rely on someone else to "take care of them" instead of being woman or man enough to take care of themselves. Our forefathers didn't have the luxury of "being taken care of by the government", America was built on hard work from daylight til dark. We in America seem to have lost that drive, America needs your prayers so we can be continue to be the most powerful nation in the world and continue to be there for all of our allies.

So the dollar is the world's fiat currency, meaning we are the country who has the currency that everyone trades in. Richard Nixon did away with the "gold standard", meaning we used to back all dollars with gold. He said nope there is nothing backing the dollar but your faith in it. So that allows us to print them and carry an outrageous debt. We can carry trillions upon trillions in debt and just keep printing dollars. So you understand how we would be able to do whatever we want if we are printing the world currency. We just keep adding to the imaginary "debt" that we'll never pay.
China understands that being the fiat currency on the planet has some pretty remarkable perks and they want the Yuan to be the fiat currency on the planet. But they manipulate the Yuan when America doesn't manipulate the dollar in the same way. America allows the currency to ebb and flow with the faith in America.
That is how we can pay for 11 carrier strike groups. It isn't rocket science...The US prints the world's currency.

From everything we know, Russia and China outnumber the US military, but while they supposedly have equivalent tech, it's hyper-rare in their forces so they effectively on average are still several decades behind America due to our tech being far more evenly distributed. Also, many of their personnel are conscripts and mandatory service members, whereas America runs an all-volunteer force, which naturally has a marked effect on morale and effort, both on the field and in training.
Another point these videos often leave out (mostly because it focuses on the military aspect), is the citizenry of the US. The United States Citizenry is the largest armed force on the face of the planet. Even if you managed to annihilate our military, all you did is get a warm up for the hell you'd be walking into trying to invade the country.
