The clean oil is a combination of things - frequent oil changes, engine temperatures not getting excessively high and the fact that the 4.0 is a Cologne V6 - masterpiece of engineering.

Thanks, Gram, for maintaining this engine. The injectors aren't your fault.

    Always enjoy watch the content.
For extra ideas Bosch will have some more modern injectors that are better than the originals you don’t have to go aftermarket. Automotive injectors usually come in three main heights(34mm/48mm/60mm), two main impedance options(high/low oe’s for ford are usually high impedance). Just use the flow rate which is 19#. I’d look for 4 hole 8 hole Injectors, which improve atomization over the single hole injectors from the 80s and 90s. Upgrading the injectors will help with atomization allow improved throttle response, minuscule fuel economy increase(may not be noticeable)and smoother idle but not power per say(there is more to it than I’d like to explain it really doesn’t pertain to your build). You could get away with up to 23-24 lb injectors as the computer would be able to correction adjust the flow to match its performance. I believe 23# were used in some of the ford v8s.

You really should invest in a blasting cabinet, preferably one that has a big side opening door that can accept bigger pieces, it's a life changer!
But glad to see that the engine is in good mechanical shape!
The 4.0 can be pretty restricted in terms of intake. You can get a very nice intake with good flow injectors to get it peppy without spending a ton of money!

Clearcoat the bare aluminum after using Alumiprep or AlumiBrite products.... They remove the natural protective oxide layer exposing the AL to more advanced oxidation, so protection is important after cleaning.

Hey! There was a recall on the 93-94 4.0L for a leaking intake gasket. If you change out the gasket, make sure that you replace the studs in the corner with bolts. If your gasket WAS changed recently, they probably already replaced the studs for you. FYI: The best gasket is the steel one with rubber seals.

A bit of advice when using a sand/soda/glass blasting gun, ALWAYS wear a face shield as well as the goggles and respirator, this prevents any particles from entering around your goggles and the rebound of these particles from hitting your face.

If it's a Morse Chain, change it around 250k miles. It's the same with our MoPaR 3.3 / 3.8 V6, maintain per book and the only thing that wears, is that the timing chain slowly stretches. Replace the chain and the ECU relearns the engine and its back like new.

4:29 - ....so far in my experience, furniture dollies from the likes of Harbor Freight or big box hardware stores are cheap. You can place any receptacle or storage container you have in your garage onto after only possibly needing a slight modification not only to make transport to the tools/[refills] easy but also opening up shop configuration and storage options = being able to roll away into storage under a counter/below a shelf, freeing up operational floorspace. Might likely even be able to make your own from specific swivel casters you select yourself from the same Harbor Freight Tool / [other hardware store] and configured for a lower-slung (down, in between the wheels) dolly design that might cost abput the same or, possibly, cheaper especially if you're repurposing some lumber laying around from engine/shipping crates, etc. ✌️🖖👋

11:40 manufactures used to include a cork gasket (not for this engine) called a china rail, because it curved and looks like the great wall of china. I always chucked those in the trash, and used a thick bead of RTV. in the 35 years plus I've been working as a tech, I've had 0 leaks and 0 comebacks for a intake job. Therefor, it works...

The injectors are Bosch EV1 series. The metal body is fairly thick, so that corrosion may not affect function. The color of the top plastic overmold indicates the static flowrate in lbs/hour. Yellow I remember was 19 Lb/hour and blue was 24 Lb/hour, but I can’t recall what red was (maybe 14 Lb/Hour).
The later Bosch injector design (EV6) was a fully plastic overmolded unit with essentially the same physical specs/fitment. You might be able to find those in the red color.

When using an aluminum brighter, use hot water, as hot as you can get it. My BIL welds aluminum tankers and uses his steam cleaner to blast off the surface gunk which simultaneously puts a lot of heat into the metal. Spraying brightner on the hot surface makes a huge difference in it’s effectiveness.

You need to use the Harbor Freight Abrasive Blasting Hood 62378, 38138 Your hair and eyes will appreciate it. I haven't used it, but when I home built a blasting cabinet I used tear off sheets to pretect the plexiglss window. You could use some type of tear off covers to keep the face shield alive on this too I would guess. Make sure you pull a sweatshirt or long shirt over the apron of the hood. Stuff can still sneak up under if it isn't blocked off.

I worked over my OHV my explorer runs so nice I can't buy a new car. I feel bad I didn't clean up my lower intake now. Tensioners usually last forever. The lower end of this engine is pretty indestructible. I did replace my injectors. They were very rusty from upstate NY. I got remanufactured ones for $60 a set. I had an injector get a rust pinhole and cause a real mess. I also painted my valve covers, but I had to get new ones. Mine were fully rotted out. some bolts flanges gone. I also got a ford lower intake gasket.

Hey Sarah, that’s awesome the Engine is as clean on the inside as you did the outside. I’ve never seen a V6 or a V8 that clean. A in line 4,6 yes but not a V hurry up and close that thing back up before all the magic gets out!🙂🐧🐧🐧👍🏻

Thanks for the laugh Sarah. You made me think of the following:
X Discrepancy: Intake and assoc hardware removed to F.O.M.
Corrective Action: Intake and assoc hardware installed IAW 1F-1994-4.0 Section 3 Para 3-4
