I think the bit of egg sandwich and the coffee mug really helped throw the cop off Richard's scent. A fugitive on the run has time to enjoy a coffee, in a mug, and and some food while walking calmly through a hospital corridor. That alone would have fooled me more than him wearing a stethoscope and doctor style coat.
I think also having his fly undone made the cop notice and prompt him to zip up as well so that he wouldn’t really look at his face.

Funny part is doctors are always on the run; him walking through the hallways with Coffee and an egg sandwich seems like he just got breakfast from the cafeteria.
Even funnier is Kimble's banter is doctor-like: dry humor but with a bit of fast-thinking wit. Little did the cop consider that the fugitive is a doctor!

I seriously remember watching this scene in the theater back in 1993 and as soon as they showed him clean shaven without the beard my first thought was "You're all clear kid now let's blow this thing and go home!!"

Harrison Ford is the only person who can make a hated activity like shaving seem like a cool thing to do.
If you have the right shaving stuff, it’s not hated at all.
Shaving with a double edged razor is incredibly relaxing
I still hate shaving but using a safety razor makes it more enjoyable and gives me a nice clean shave. I’m still bad it b/c no one taught me lol so I had to rely on movie father figures like Harrison Ford lol

If this movie has taught us anything, it is that all men should grow beards to provide an escape plan in case of false murder accusations.
But if every men grew beards, then being clean shaven would mean that you would be a fugitive and everybody could spot you.
and, if you have blue or green eyes, to wear brown contacts when you commit your crimes, that way when you pop them out, no one can legitimately ID you. If you have brown eyes like 80-85% of humans do, however, you're f*cked. :)

The intelligence of the characters of Dr kimbel and tomy lee are very realistic. They go very deep in their professions as Dr and us marshall. Movies from the 80 n 90s are the best.

I was sat up late watching t.v one night as a child while my parents ate dinner with some friends and they must have forgotten i was still up, and this was on so i watched it and ever since it has been an old favourite of mine

He's got really steady hands to not cut himself shaving. I guess since he's a doctor.
With safety razors it’s hard to cut yourself.
I use a saftey razor and when I shave I do on occasion nick myself in a couple spots especially with brand new blade and several days old growth that's why you use hot water to to soften up the whiskers. Although given that it's a movie he likely had the beard removed with electric clippers before filming this scene with a "fake" prop razor hence the lack of any noticeable cuts.
It's all those years flying the milenium falcon thru the Galaxy , gave him the hand eye coordination
I love the disappointment look he gives right before cutting his beard. This is by far Ford's best role ever. Subtlety was the key.

I thought the same about the “I don’t care!” scene. After Jones says the line, you see a mix of emotions cross Ford’s face, including the trace of a smile. It was like Kimball was recognizing the humor and developing respect for the marshal, even through the tension of the moment.
@@mjjoe76- Humor? I don't see how that scene was supposed to have any trace of humor in it, and I've seen this film at least a dozen in times in the now thirty years since its release. Can you clue me in a little?

That was really dicy of him to be like "every time I look in the mirror pal, except for the beard ofcourse", idk if I was the cop I would have been pretty skeptic of him being he fit the whole description except for the beard

I thought this was secretly brilliant. If you're a small town cop, you probably don't expect some famous desperate fugitive to be calmly walking through the building you just happen to be in, of all places, sipping a cup of coffee like it's just another morning.

Ford says that the original idea in the script was for him to not have a beard at the start and then grow one as a disguise, hence the other way round to what it is in the film, but because the film takes place over only a few weeks they changed it around as he could shave it off much quicker than grow it obviously but I for one wouldn’t have recognised him with the beard if he walked past me, it just makes him look totally different and with the longer hair combed back as well but when you see him in this shot cutting it and the next shot without it it’s like a different person and later when he dyes his hair black with no beard he looks 20 years younger.

In this scene, he didn’t trim the edges of his hair. But when he dyes his hair black later on, he suddenly looks like he went to the barber. His hair also loses it’s black dye as the movie progresses and becomes light brown again lol

I have a hard time seeing how a guy is going to be shaving (with a full face of beard) for the first time in a year, also kind of nervously and in a rush, and NOT nick himself a number of times!
He is a vascular surgeon so he has very skilled hands, so the chances of him nicking himself as he shaves are slim

Da Bulls would have been most appropriate at the time. This was a bad time for da Bears, but it was supposed to be early March, when prime Jordan was about to 3-peat. Missed opportunity for a setting signifier. 😉
