You don't have to apologize for your reviews on this books!!! When I was hearing you talk about Dracula I was like "same girl!!" It was exactly my experience with it, this was such a fun video ❤
“If I’m not being graded, what’s the fucking point” is the closest I have to a life motto and the reason why the Goodreads reading challenge still has a chokehold over me 😅
I did a whole presentation on vampires in college (never let me pick my own topic, profssor) and part of the reason dracula was so revolutionary was because it was the first time vampires had sentience instead of being just animals. And the victorians found it arousing, but thats not a high bar
This was SO fun! More vampire vlogs please! 😂 Also, I always love your reviews. They are so thoughtful and touch on things that are really interesting!
Omg thank you!! Haha I was going to start another one today 🤣 but I thought ok wait not everyone wants back to back vampire shit lololol GETTING BACK TO IT ASAP CUZ IM OBSESSED🤩
Ohhhh I LOVE a vampire themed video!!! So fun 😍 I love a Dowry of Blood I should reread it sometime ahha. Also yes ahhh after getting into The Vampire Diaries recently, I agree it’s crack and I want to read all the vampire things after loving this show so much haha 🤭
16:56 I actually appreciate the details and such. I try to approach this book (especially a Vampire book) as if I haven’t been tainted/influenced by the countless other Vampire things I’ve been exposed to all my life. I try to put myself in the place of someone back in those times - reading this without already having been to Party City and seeing everything vampire related; all the movies, shows, books, and vampire related references. As if I have no clue what the setting is like. I already know what train stations look like in those ancient European places. The people reading Dracula back then likely didn’t know a lot of this… - Continuing video (enjoying it - interesting).
I kept trying to remind myself of that! But honestly I liked approaching it from a modern lens, it made it so satirical and added to my giggling hahaha. Are you a fan of Dracula? I am so sorry about my yapping if so 🤣🫣
OMG! I actually just posted a vampire vlog today as well 🤭 I was so surprised/thrilled to see your video in my feed. I also read Carmilla, A Dowry of Blood, and Woman, Eating. Ohhhh I just love a good vampire book. Haven’t seen Nosferatu yet but I’m so excited! I guess it is vampire winter 😌❄️🧛
I had no idea about Nosfuratu until the day before I decided to go watch it. I LOVED it and am thinking of watching it again before it’s gone from theaters.
I'm so glad someone finally talks about how bad the end of Carmilla is!!!!! It pissed me off so much but everyone around me was just talking about how much they loved the book and I was like??? Did you guys just skip the end?? I felt so alone in my frustration haha 😅 Also it really was sold to me as a sapphic vampire story and then when I read it, the dynamic between Laura and Carmilla just reminded me a little too much of an uncomfortable friendship I had myself so that kind of ruined it for me lol. I think a lot of people recommended it thinking about what the relationship COULD have been, instead of what it actually was in the book, so thank you for talking about the difference between the two!!!
I need it to be amazing because it's already so good in my imagination 😂 I love that idea!! though I feel like I've read a lot more romantasy vampire stuff so my standard's are pretty high [aka twilight and vampire academy lolololol]. Honestly though I want to do this!!!
fun vlog! love the birds and foods b-roll 😍 talking about writing essays on why we love loving weird things - have you watched Grapie Deltaco’s video she just did on Sentient Object Romances? it was so interesting and fun to think about the art movement / kinda history behind it all 💕🫠 loved it!
Great vlog. I love Vampires.i have Dracula, haven't read it yet. I read Twilight when I was 23 back in 2008 when the first movie came out.i watched the 1920's Nosferatu last year and loved it. 🧛📚☕🦇
The Trublood books are really quick reads and VERY different from the show. But an entertaining read. Love this video! Haven't read Dracula since middle school but remember loving it. Wonder what I'd think at 43...
28:37 hmm. I’m ready for autumn and all the Vampire / Goth / Victober things that flood TH-cam (can’t believe the season is ending and spring flowers and muggy, unrelenting heat is on its way).😞 I want to watch and read all of this. Go Lizard-Man!!! You’re still the best! Don’t mind Ali….! Bah!!! I enjoyed this video! Thanks for sharing it! Look forward to your next update. Happy reading! Bah!
Thank you for reminding me about Only Lovers Left Alive, I used to rewatch it over and over!! Glad you enjoyed A Dowry of Blood, I seem to be in the minority, feeling pretty meh about it. Some quotes are beautiful, but ultimately I didn't find any substance there. And now I'm sitting here, wishing Carmen Maria Machado gave us a Carmila retelling...
love your analysis of classic lit fanfic potential lol. i started dracula last november (after reading a dowry of blood) and never finished it, and isn't it telling that the one image that remained in my head is lizardman dracula scurrying down his castle walls? baah!
omg i do love a vampire story BUT i might be too much of a scaredy cat to watch nosferatu🙈 also why are you literally the funniest person on booktube, ali i loveeeee your videos
Yesss for the Netgalley approval 💪 I remember a YA book I read in the mid 90s called Companions of the Night 🧛♂️ ❤ I would've been around 22 when I read this 🥹 I have A Dowry of Blood sitting on my shelves, and I WILL read it this year! x
Ugh, I too am on a vampire binge at the moment! I blame Astarion from BG3 and The Case Study of Vanitas anime for my current obsession though, to be fair, ahaha. My next read will be Interview with the Vampire which I am super keen for!
Completely agree with you on Carmilla, that was exactly how I felt at the end but I didn't even have the edition you had so I had none of those positives 😔 I am really looking forward to Hungerstone, hoping it elaborates on a lot of the things I did like about Carmilla. This author also wrote Bitterthorn, another sapphic novel I really really liked so I am hopeful 💜 Also agree on Dracula, I was SO disappointed by the end. Except I gave it a 1 star bc the end had me so mad LOL
omg yeah the intro in this edition really made everything so much better but I hope we both love hungerstone! and wow Bitterhorn sounds like the coolest title I need to look that up 😆
Yes Ali you are my go to booktuber! I think you are a natural riot is so apt. Books on Vampires - wow I have been reading so long. For funny and quirky - Undead an Unwedby MJ Davidson; for Tru Blood read Dead Until Dark by Charmaine Harris; for weird myth combos read Anita Blake series by Laurel K. Hamilton beginning with Guilty Pleasures. Anne Rice. Buffy is a must; and I love David Boreanaz as Angel ins the spin off Angel - he does angst. I could add more. The Lost Boys with Keizer Sunderland was great; and I loved and laughed through Bram Stoker’s Dracula played Gary Oldham.❤❤❤
Nosferatu is better on the second viewing. I think it’s incredible and a real experience seeing it in the theater. ‘Stake’ by Kevin J Anderson is a fun fast paced book with a modern story where you don’t know if the main antagonist is killing actual vampires or just a crazy serial killer. There’s a lot of vampire lore in it.
If you want to deep dive into a series you could do Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward. In that one vampires are a totally different race, so there's no changing humans into vampires or anything.
you just brought back a memory of me binging that first book back in the day omg!! I couldn't get my hands on the next in the series at the time, but now with libby at my disposal.... 🤩 bless you for resurrecting this book series in my brain hahaha
9:38 still watching, but funny to hear you like this way of writing (mail/letters) because Dracula has that, and people often dislike Dracula because of this. Ok. Back to the video.
You should watch the original Nosferatu! Its a silent film from the 1920s. My favorite vampire book is Salems Lot, one of my favorite King books too. The True Blood books are fun. Also I love bats, I have some in my neighborhood. I see them the most at dusk in the summer (but maybe in hawaii you could see them year round lol) they just dart around the sky eating bugs
I wanted to go tonight to see Nosferatu....but tje friend is not feeling well. So eigher we go tomorrow or I go alone. Yes I like Carmila. Have Dracula but haven't read it STILL 😮💨 and Dowry of Blood...I got as far as second wife crying in bedroom chapter....and than was fed up with the characters so I skimmmmmmed dramaticly and read the hole kill scene and epilog and than was like 🙄. The Writting is MAGNIFICENT and that one dropped sentence that Second Consort Is Advising Vatican now! 😮 Literarly want to read that book! Please author just make that companion book!
Carmilla and the Castle of Otranto are two of my favs. (To be fair, I love pre 1880 lit.) Otranto is just..a fever dream. Get crushed by a giant helmet sick boy!
I'm not that much into Vampire shit, but there's a series out there I fuckin' love - it's the Joe Pitt series by Charlie Huston. It's a kinda crime/noir/pulp take on the whole thing. Yeah, maybe check it out.
You don't have to apologize for your reviews on this books!!! When I was hearing you talk about Dracula I was like "same girl!!" It was exactly my experience with it, this was such a fun video ❤
I'm so glad I'm not alone 🤣 thank you!
“If I’m not being graded, what’s the fucking point” is the closest I have to a life motto and the reason why the Goodreads reading challenge still has a chokehold over me 😅
Every time I see "you are 1 book behind" I'm like "oh hell no 🏃♀️💨" hahahaha
You are such a natural riot & feel like you are in my mind! This was such a fun & inspiring video.
thank you!
Ali, I mean this in the least creepy way possible but I am fucking OBSESSED with you! You are just such a vibe and I love your content 🧛♀
😭 this is so sweet thank you!! ❤️🔥
I did a whole presentation on vampires in college (never let me pick my own topic, profssor) and part of the reason dracula was so revolutionary was because it was the first time vampires had sentience instead of being just animals. And the victorians found it arousing, but thats not a high bar
that's interesting!
i just finished salems lot literally yesterday (and watched nosferatu last week)… loving us being in our vampire era!!
Salems lot is so good
I've heard the name Salems Lot so many times..... had no idea it was vampiric OMG I need it. Yes to our twinning vampire era!!! 🩸❤️🔥
@@AliDoisRead girl its sooooooo good!!!!
This was SO fun! More vampire vlogs please! 😂 Also, I always love your reviews. They are so thoughtful and touch on things that are really interesting!
Omg thank you!!

I have been possessed with the vampire obsession lol I'm still reading vamp shit 🤣
"Hi, sorry I just called you a snob"
I love you 😂
LOL 😝
Ohhhh I LOVE a vampire themed video!!! So fun 😍 I love a Dowry of Blood I should reread it sometime ahha. Also yes ahhh after getting into The Vampire Diaries recently, I agree it’s crack and I want to read all the vampire things after loving this show so much haha 🤭
Omg ITS SO GOOD 🤩 I’ve been watching random people on TH-cam watch it for the first time and it’s so fun !
not him running with the casket
I was cracking up finding the clips of this, there was like a two minute montage of him scrambling around with it 😂
16:56 I actually appreciate the details and such. I haven’t read Dracula because I struggle with classics but I think I would feel EXACTLY the same as how you feel about it 😅
Lmao it was a YAWN 🥱 🤣
OMG twin!!!!! I need to go watch it asap I am still in that vampire mood, it's consumed me!!
I had no idea about Nosfuratu until the day before I decided to go watch it. I LOVED it and am thinking of watching it again before it’s gone from theaters.
SAME !
as soon as i finished Carmilla i went on ao3 and people have re-written the ending. worth checking out if you were as dissapointed as i was
hahahaha I need to read some of this for my soul
I just want you to know you’ve become my favorite booktuber and I have been binging all your videos ❤
😭 oh my goodness that is so nice to hear THANK YOU!
@ oh also I just read beautyland because of you and ahhh!!! It was so beautiful 😭
What a fun concept! Loved it ❤
yay! I'm glad you enjoyed 🫶
Everything you said about Nosferatu is exactly how I felt about it, down to the not making eye contact at the end bit 😅😅😅
like omg the scene "you could never please me like he could" my eye balls fell out of my skull 🤣💀
@ omg and we brought our 18 yr old niece that we still think of as a child I WAS CRINGING!!!!
@ nooooooooooo 🤣
I'm so glad someone finally talks about how bad the end of Carmilla is!!!!! It pissed me off so much but everyone around me was just talking about how much they loved the book and I was like??? Did you guys just skip the end?? I felt so alone in my frustration haha 😅

Also that's a beautiful edition of Dracula... perhaps I need it
I feel like the author even skipped the end 😂
Yeah I could see it being upsetting for that reason ❤️
thanks for watching!!
😏
Omg Only Lovers Left Alive was so fun, thank you for reminding me of that movie ❤
IT'S SO GOOD

I definitely want to watch the 1920s version!
The gold foiling Dracula is so cute

you definitely need to watch interview with the vampire (the show on amc +) if you haven't already! it's so good
I forgot they made a show 😭 I will DEF be getting to this!
The Trublood books are really quick reads and VERY different from the show. But an entertaining read. Love this video! Haven't read Dracula since middle school but remember loving it. Wonder what I'd think at 43...
I need to try them both for sure 👀 thank you!
I'm about halfway through an ARC of Blood on Her Tongue by Johanna van Veen and loving it sooooo much.
THE COVER 🤩

Court of the Undying Seasons by A.M. Strickland has a really unique take on vampires that I absolutely loved!!!
oooh I'll have to check it out, thanks!
Nosferatu is better on the second viewing. Silvia Morena Garcia translated a Dracula retelling a few years in the pandemic. I recommend
oh wow! didn't know she did translation! that's so cool I'll check it out
That 🤠 in Dracula 😂😂😂
🤣

Ok. Back to the video.
lol so funny because I loved it in Carmilla but not in Dracula! I think because I enjoyed one perspective over a handful of them
You should watch the original Nosferatu! Its a silent film from the 1920s. My favorite vampire book is Salems Lot, one of my favorite King books too. The True Blood books are fun. lmao I would die to see a cute lil bat just flying around eating bugs 😭🥹
NOS4A2 By Joe Hill ( aka Stephen King’s son 😅) I believe is a published fan fiction for Nosferatu. It was also a show I think.
Whaaaat! ok putting this on my tbr lmao
I wanted to go tonight to see Nosferatu....but tje friend is not feeling well. So eigher we go tomorrow or I go alone.
Yes I like Carmila. Have Dracula but haven't read it STILL 😮💨 and Dowry of Blood...I got as far as second wife crying in bedroom chapter....and than was fed up with the characters so I skimmmmmmed dramaticly and read the hole kill scene and epilog and than was like 🙄.

lmao skipping to the end is a vibe 😂 hope you get to see Nosferatu soon!
omg please read more classics LOL I'm dying at this commentary !!
🤣 I'm scared of the potential yuppies but lmao the fan fiction inspo in these classics is astounding!!
Carmilla and the Castle of Otranto are two of my favs. (To be fair, I love pre 1880 lit.) Otranto is just..a fever dream. Get crushed by a giant helmet sick boy!
Ooh never heard of Otranto I’ll have to check it out!
Foxhole Court is a trilogy about queer characters who play a made up sport! It’s super angsty but so good
I literally hear nothing but great things, I can't wait!
You gotta watch the Coppola movie with Keanu Reeves. It’s so hilarious and made me like the book more. 🖤
I second this - Keanu reeves, winnona Ryder, Gary oldman .. such a camp film
I just googled it and it looks like a trip 😂 ADDING TO MY LIST ASAP
Yeah…. I read Dracula for spooky season in 2023. Just meh. Frankenstein was worse 😬🙈 We loved What We Do in the Shadows the series. 🧛♀️🧛♂️

also Dracula is kind of renowned among book critics for being kinda bad so it wasnt just you
lmao MY FEELINGS ARE REDEEMED YES!! 🤣
Maybe ask a Hawaiian researcher where to spot the bats
good idea cuz I'd really love to see one 🥹
