The sounds from the engines, the smoke and the smell of burnt coal all add to the experience of watching these old steam engines.

Glad you enjoyed it - it really is a wonderful place to visit - beautiful forest area too.

Delightful portrait of a precious survivor of a once extensive Dean Forest network. What a wonderful forest background to an impeccable heritage railway.

      Thank you Malcolm.
Yes, so many forest lines have been lost, but of course they were built for the then thriving collieries, rather than the passengers. So lucky (and the hard volunteers work) that this beautiful section has survived - maybe it can be extended northwards towards Speech House Rd. and Cinderford Rd./Ruspidge one day?
Glad you enjoyed it - it is always a real pleasure to revisit the DFR.
      Take care,
      Paul

      Thank you Bruce!
Yes, I think the natural shape of the River Lyd Valley does help a lot to shape and echo the sound - which is, as you say, amazing.
Always a pleasure to revisit this line - beautiful forest scenery here too.
      Take care,
      Paul

Yes, I thought I would let the sounds and sights do the talking instead of me in this one - no additional words are really required, I feel.
It really is a lovely area and perfect backdrop to the line.
      Thanks so much,
      Take care,

Loved watching all the steam train comings and goings! Superbly filmed and edited. The sound was so crisp. Almost ASMR 🤗

Thank you Louise! Yes, I did spend a little while trying to get the sound as good as I could do with this. I have never done a AMSR video but it might be an option to try in the future! Paul

Glad you enjoyed it - yes, the DFR is a super railway - I feel very fortunate to have the DFR, the GWSR and the SVR all within an hour or so travel time from where I live. All excellent.
      Thanks so much,
      Take care,
      Paul

Lovely reminders Paul. Thankyou. So pleased to see the smartly turned out carriages. I always notice them as my husband was a carriage fanatic and would have been delighted to see them. Some people have been working very hard on those. Very nice to see the gates being operated at Lydney town too. Just have to watch your other ones again now. 🚂

Yes, they seemed to be especially well turned out on the day of my visit recently.
I always really enjoy a trip to the DFR.
      Thanks so much.

Another wonderful video, Paul. And a very interesting railway. I like the way the exhaust from the prairie tank echos through the valley!

Yes, DFR, along with the GWSR and the SVR are all rather excellent and fairly local to me. Beautiful woodland scenery along the DFR too.
I like the DFRs quirks too, like the in town Lydney Station, the level crossing across the High St. and the abandoned station at St. Mary's at the other end of the town. It has much of interest.
      Take care,
      Paul

Good Morning Paul - greetings from Poland
Another wonderful video of the DFR. An excellent video, being able to only listen to the sounds of the railway. The new crossing gates and vehicle crossing look superb. Lovely to see the two guys operating the gates in unison.
The park looks beautiful - gorgeous flower beds and how neat and tidy too.

Good morning Michael! Sorry, I am a day in arrears as usual!
Glad you enjoyed it - I did tweak the audio to get it to sound as good as I could.
They have done a wonderful job on the level crossing, haven't they?
Bathurst Park is a particular favourite of mine - perhaps the finest traditional town park in Gloucestershire? Lydney is a much underrated town in my opinion.
Hope you have a good weekend.
      Take care,
      Paul

Another beautifully made video on a lovely summer’s day! You could tell you had worked on the sound- it was really good picking up the train noises- especially from afar.
I loved the new crossing gates- heavy on manpower - special to see in this day & age( thanks for naming the crossing operator at the end)
And the park looked just perfect! Thanks Paul!

Great video again Paul. Love the shots of the moving train in different locations and good to see the two men closing the level crossing gates at Lydney. Nice shots of Bathurst Park at the start and end too. Thanks for sharing, all the best 👍

      Thank you Patrick.
Yes, the gates and crossing in Lydney looks rather splendid now.
I really love Bathurst Park - always looks stunning, with a lovely and friendly cafe in the centre of it.
Together with the DFR, the park, the lake, Lydney Park (in season) and the restored harbour area, Lydney has a lot to offer any visitor. Not forgetting Taurus Crafts nearby too (perhaps I should feature that next time I am in the area).
      Thanks so much,
      Cheers,
      Paul

Hi Paul, surprised to hear that was your seventh visit, I haven't got there once yet. Soon to be rectified. I loved the well choreographed routine at the gates in Lydney, you captured it well. Take care. Ron

      Thank you Ron!
Yes, it is only about 35 miles or so from where I live, so relatively easy to get to. I feel fortunate that we have three rather excellent heritage lines within an hour or so nearby (DFR, SVR & GWSR) and a smattering of others well worth visiting too.
Lydney's Bathhurst Park is a really lovely place to enjoy a wander, and a coffee or ice cream as well. So much of interest in this area.
Thank you - and enjoy your visit there - I am sure you will. The highlight for me is Parkend Station - wonderful recreation - looked perfection on my last visit there.

Hi Paul, You've excelled yourself with the sound, I listened with headphones on and it was just as if I was there👌👌. It's also a great place to film it with the two levels.
I'm wondering whether there are any crossing gates like that on mainline, I think not but there might be one or two in an out of the way place.
I think the word quintessential was invented to describe places like this!!
A great advert for the railway, well done!!

      Thank you David!
Glad you enjoyed it - yes, the audio remastering took longer to edit than the visuals, which are usually more straightforward.
I am not aware of any like that on a Network Rail line, but there might be somewhere - I am really only familiar with my 'little' corner of the Westcountry and southern half of the West Midlands. There are however, still some completely unfenced level crossings! I always find that a bit scary!
      Quintessential! Yes, sums it perfectly.
Hope you have a good weekend - off to film my monthly vlog later today!
      Take care,
      Paul
